Title: GETTING RANDY WITH MY OATS
Post by: bk on November 21, 2010, 11:41:34 PM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes felt their oats, the oats felt the notes right back, and now it is time for you to post until the randy cows come home.

And here is our new release, which, of course, you dear readers will well remember from 2007, when our very own Mr. Cason Murphy went to the Fringe Festival to do it, and then did The Brain at NYMF.  To order THIS one, just go to the website - the title will be live at midnight and you can order the normal way.

Winner of the New York Fringe Festival Award for Outstanding Musical

KRITZERLAND IS PROUD TO PRESENT A NEW ORIGINAL CAST RECORDING:

BUKOWSICAL!
Book and Lyrics by Spencer Green and Gary Stockdale  Music by Gary Stockdale

Get ready for a completely irreverent, wacko, hilarious, tuneful, and, above all, raunchy new musical.  Just in case there is any doubt about the meaning of the word “raunchy”:

raunchy |ˈrôn ch ē; ˈrän-|
earthy, vulgar, and often sexually explicit

Yes, Bukowsical is earthy, vulgar, and often sexually explicit, as only befits the titular man on whom this show is a riff – the one and only Charles Bukowski.  Taking place in the form of a backer’s audition of a new musical about the one and only Charles Bukowski, presented by a fictional Los Angeles-based theatre company called The Sacred Angel Fist Circle Of Note Gang Theatre, the show opened in early 2006 at the tiny Sacred Fools Theater, where, as a late-night fifty-minute piece it garnered excellent reviews – “An uproarious romp” (Los Angeles Times), “riotously funny” (LA Weekly), “It’s terrific fun and so wrong in all the right ways” (Backstage West) – and had a sold-out four-month run.  The show was then expanded into a full evening’s entertainment, and it re-opened at the Sacred Fools in late 2006, where it had another successful run.

Bukowsical was invited to perform at 2007’s New York International Fringe Festival, where it created a sensation, had to add additional performances, and won the award for Outstanding Musical.  Had Charles Bukowski lived to know of these kudos he probably would have promptly thrown up on the floor.

Despite the earthy, vulgar, and often sexually explicit book and lyrics, the score is filled with tuneful numbers that have a wry and often earthy, vulgar, and sexually explicit sense of humor – in fact, they are occasionally laugh out loud funny, delivered by a top-notch cast of great singing actors, including Nadia Ahern, Brad Blaisdell, Matthew Garland, David Goldsmith, Michael Lanahan, Cason Murphy, Fleur Phillips, and Lauren Rubin.

So, join us on The Derelict Trail – Bukowsical will have you tapping your toes and sitting there with your mouth agape – and be sure to remove the kiddies from the listening environment because in case we haven’t made it abundantly clear – this show is: RAUNCHY!

The price is $17.98 plus shipping.

CD will ship by the third week of December – however, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks earlier (we’ve been averaging four weeks early).   To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

Good morning, all!

I went to bed around 9 pm last night and slept for about 10 hours; I believe DR MBarnum has sent me the creeping crud as an email virus, and my fears on Saturday that i was becoming sick are coming to pass. I( think it's only a cold, but my throat's sore and my head is full of gunk. I suspect it's my body's giving into my fatigue and stress of the recordings and the Oaf.

So, for my Ohio schedule, it's still a bit in flux: Miami U today, whether I feel like it or not, since it's the prime reason for my visit, and then I'll check in with friends tomorrow.

BK, you should hold a copy of BUKOWSICAL for me and I'll purchase it next week when I'm back. I saw the production at the Fringe and really disliked it, but I might like the score better out of context.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Good Day Vibes to Everyone! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I was in my 20s, I read anything of Bukowski's that I could get my hands on. I still have 10 or 12 of his books. People would look at me strange whenever they'd pick one up to see what I was reading. I don't read him much any more. It may have been a case of finding the right author for the right time in my life. But I can't wait to "him" sing.
Monday morning greetings!  It's rather gray and gloomy here in SW Ohio today, but my day was brightened considerably by a nice phone conversation with DR Elmore.  He does, indeed, sound like he has a cold, so we've put off plans for getting together until after Thanksgiving Day.
I have my last session at the cardiac rehab gym today.
Good morning!  We had freezing drizzle over night so many schools are close today. It's not too bad in town on the streets that have been treated or sanded (my street was not included in that grouping)  but i only have a 2 blocks to get to a bus route - that's always treated first - so I didn't have any problem getting to work.
They are having a 50% off sale at a nice mens clothing store next to a coffee shop.   I'm thinking I'll get my dad a sweater this year.   I called to get his size and he answered (that's unusual) and I found out he's waiting for the nurse to call about a prescription.  He's not feeling any better.
Just got off a 90-minute phone call with my mother.
I have delayed working on a cookbook of her recipes for too long now. This morning, we tackled 25 pie recipes. Some of them are really quite remarkable, such as Bean Pie from eastern Kentucky that's made with Navy Beans. There's Oatmeal Pie, then there's Kentucky Jam Pie. All I want to do right now is make pie after pie.
I'm glad I bought the monster box of Pillsbury pie sheets at Costco this weekend.
Now, about that waistline. And the diabetes.
Tomorrow we work on breads and miscellaneous. Then cakes, before we get into the mega-monster: cookies.
I'll join the crowd of the ailing because I ache all over from all the leaf raking I did over the weekend.  My front and back yards are both spotless, but there's an oak tree in my neighbor's yard that hasn't yet given it all up.  Any of those leaves that fall into my yard will now wait until spring to get picked up.  I've had enough yard work for one season...
I just noticed your avatar is now "A Christmas Carol." I wish I could watch that TV version of that one again. As awful as it is (and much is really bad), I enjoy Kelsey Grammar as Scrooge and Jane K. I have it on video but the video player died earlier this year. Haven't decided if/when I'll be replacing that.
I always got a kick out of Lyle Lovett and his "Large Band". Not quite a big band ...
DR JohnG - it's a great musical version of the show.  I've been doing it seasonally for  4 years now.  I kinda liked the movie as it featured some great actors, especially Claire Moore as Mrs Fezziwig.  I love the score and it's been a great way to get into the holiday season.
DR Arnold M Brockman, I answered your first PM the day it came.  Check your email or your PMs here on HHW.  That said, your first PM was a generic "what one opera" and didn't make it clear you were talking about the Mehta RING cycle.  I'd go with Gotterdammerung.
Yeah, I love the score, too. I just think the TV version wasn't up to the stage version.
I had a friend who worked  in the costume department for years when it ran at Madison Square Garden. She worked with F. Murray Abraham, Tony Roberts and a host of others I can't remember. I used to laugh whenever she was would talk about the 15-show-or-so-a-week schedule they had and how she wanted to scream "Just shut up and eat" whenever "Till each child is fed ..." would start up.
I hope your production lifts more than a few spirits this year.
I love Richmond this time of year, though it's been more than a decade since I was there at Christmas. I remember going into a wonderful old hotel that was all decorated for the season. Very Southern and genteel. I'll have to get my sister to tell me what the name of that place was.
And I happened to work with the original "Tiny Tim" from that production, Matthew Mezzacappa, on a production of the Cummins & Scoullar adaptation of "The Little Prince" - he was The Little Prince, of course.
*And "44 Sunsets" from said show was recorded by Daisy Egan on the bk-produced and DR elmore-orchestrated on  "Broadway Bound" album.
Off to have a bean burger for lunch. This is a San Antonio creation in which you top the burger patty with cheese (originally Cheez-Whiz, though cheddar is much better), refried beans and Frito's (also created in San Antonio). Some add guacamole, salsa, jalapenos, you name it.
Spirit magazine, the Southwest Airlines mag, contacted me about doing a short piece on the five best places in town to get these local faves. I'm off to a restaurant called the Lord's Kitchen, which has a three-pound Meet Your Maker burger on the menu.
Waiting to hear back from the car place - the same thing that happened last Thursday happened again yesterday - this time as I was pulling in the garage I put my hand on the shift lever, getting ready to move it into park and everything just shut down.  I had to jiggle it pretty fiercely to get it working again and there is clearly something shorting in there.
Off to have a bean burger for lunch. This is a San Antonio creation in which you top the burger patty with cheese (originally Cheez-Whiz, though cheddar is much better), refried beans and Frito's (also created in San Antonio). Some add guacamole, salsa, jalapenos, you name it.
Spirit magazine, the Southwest Airlines mag, contacted me about doing a short piece on the five best places in town to get these local faves. I'm off to a restaurant called the Lord's Kitchen, which has a three-pound Meet Your Maker burger on the menu.
Ok, between the latest "Glee" episode and John's picture of tater tots - it's SONIC for dinner, tots and slushies!!
They are having a 50% off sale at a nice mens clothing store next to a coffee shop.   I'm thinking I'll get my dad a sweater this year.   I called to get his size and he answered (that's unusual) and I found out he's waiting for the nurse to call about a prescription.  He's not feeling any better.
The change in weather temps is probably contributing to people getting sick.
The weather here has been crazy. It was 40s and 50s. Then this past weekend it's been much colder (below 30). Then tomorrow it is supposed to be mid-50s. Crazy!
Burger was wonderful. Housemade chips and in a twist, they added the lettuce, pickles and tomato. Purists would pout, but I liked the freshness of the lettuce especially.
Having another tonight for dinner.
I took the motor car in and then had to kill three hours while they found nothing wrong with it, save for a small battery charge - maybe that's what was causing it.  They had no loaner for me, so I could conceivably bring the car back for more testing next week when they do.  They checked out the shift lever and that seemed to be fine.
I really don't know what to do about this funeral tomorrow.  a) I hate funerals and have just done one.  b) that side of the family has not included me in any gatherings for about six years now.  c) it's just falling on the craziest day - had it been today it would have been no problem, and had it been Wednesday it would have been no problem.  But tomorrow I have got to finish the Carrie CD and I have a rehearsal and it's just sort of in the worst possible location to then get places.  So, I think I may call and send my regrets.
Yogi, Craig's dog is a nervous boy so we needed to be extra careful about introducing them on neutral territory.  Technically a dog's regular walking area isn't considered neutral but then we weren't worried about Sherlock.
All went well except Sherlock was unusually happy having Craig home along with Yogi.  Sherlock did something he hasn't done since he was a pup.  He crashed into my knee.  The good news is I was able to get back up off the ground walk.  The bad news is I'm not walking well.  I'm concerned how I will feel tomorrow.  He caught me on the side of the knee which is better than head on.
A clean tennis shoe or tennis balls.   Depends on what it's made of though, I don't need to put either in with my down comforter. It's in small squares so the down doesn't settle and get lumpy
Here's the facebook page for A Ride with Larry.  http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pages/Ride-with-Larry/114227015311638?v=info  this is great. I didn't know they were doing this.   When I've seen Larry and Betty recently, we've talked about a mutual friend who is having some problems.  they didn't even motion this!
Here's the outline for the plot
Quote
"Ride with Larry" is an inspirational story that puts a human face on the day-to-day fight against Parkinson's disease through the life of Larry Smith, a beloved small-town baker and avid cyclist who has had Parkinson's for 19 years.
This spring, with the support of his family and community Larry will bike across his state of South Dakota to raise awareness about the benefits of recumbent cycling and Parkinson's.
Larry demonstrates the power of keeping your body active and mind positive, proving that sometimes the best cure is living life to its fullest.
Join us and ride with Larry.
The ride will be the end of  May.
Listening to Brent Barrett's "Christmas Mornings." Great work, bk and Elmore. Of course, it helps having a voice like Barrett's, too.
While at work on Saturday I listened to several Christmas albums.  Needless to say Brent's is at the top of my list!
Now there's a surprise!
George enjoy your emergency leave.
Thanks!  I will!  We get 16 hours of emergency leave per year...non-cumulative.  If it doesn't get used, it doesn't carry over to the next year.  Emergency leave can only be used when the building is closed by the admin.  We also get 16 hours of inclement weather leave (also non-cumulative), to be used whenever we feel that it's necessary.
Hello, everyone.
You can add me to the under-the-weather group. A week of feeling completely exhausted culminated in a sore throat. I managed to get some things done today, but my brain is now mush.
Last night a friend informed me that he'll be coming to visit me tomorrow. Doncha love that? I explained about not being well, but it didn't faze him. He's a good friend, so I try to put up with his quirks.
And as far as the TSA is concerned...
I'm wondering if the TSA agents who are doing the pat-downs have actually been patted-down themselves?
*And on a related note, according to the New York Times style-sheet, the official form of "pat-down" is "pat-down" - with the hyphen. Not "patdown" nor "pat down".
DR elmore - ~~~~~CRUD-BE-GONE VIBES TO YOU~~~~~
I actually think something was/has been going around the past couple of days in NYC. I know a bunch of people - myself included - that have been dealing with IPND - Insidious Post-Nasal Drip. Although, it probably was DR MBarnum's fault anyway. ;)
It seemed like everyone on my plane had it. I'm glad I got over it so fast, before it became the insidious cough.
From Wiki: "The Sherman's first version of the "It's a Small World" song, which was written in the wake of the Cuban Missile Crisis, was played as a low ballad."
I think they mean "slow" ballad. Somewhere (bk? This site?) someone talked about someone performing it at a slow tempo recently and how beautiful it was.
Jason Robert Brown posted this on his blog yesterday. A good read, analysis and listen.
George enjoy your emergency leave.
Thanks!  I will!  We get 16 hours of emergency leave per year...non-cumulative.  If it doesn't get used, it doesn't carry over to the next year.  Emergency leave can only be used when the building is closed by the admin.  We also get 16 hours of inclement weather leave (also non-cumulative), to be used whenever we feel that it's necessary.
How is the snow down there, George?
The snowing had slowed by the time I left work.  The local news said that the snow was slowing but the winds are increasing.  It's also supposed to be a little colder tomorrow than it was today. :P
Well... I'm tired... And even though I'm not dealing with any post-nasal drip right now, I am dealing with a bit of sinus pressure... So...
Goodnight.
