Well, you've read the notes, the notes were happy and holiday-like, and now it is time for you to post until the holiday cows come home.

I should be in bed, but I'm not...yet.  Last night's rehearsal took five, count 'em FIVE hours!  Actually, I was there for five hours.  The actual run time was a little over three hours.  The problem was the [expletive deleted] light board.  The lighting designer has been having problems with the board over the last several days but tonight, it FINALLY worked!
Title: Re: THE HAPPY HOLIDAYS OF DECEMBER
Post by: George on December 01, 2010, 01:47:09 AM
At first, it just wouldn't work.  Then it worked, but she couldn't record the light cues to the board's internal memory.  Then she was able to record to the board, but they wouldn't write to the memory card.  Then it looked like it was writing to the card, but it actually didn't and NOTHING was saved, not even the internal memory.  It was all lost. :P We had to rebuild all the cues tonight (it only took about an hour or so) and it all worked AND the saving to the memory card worked!

Post by: George on December 01, 2010, 01:48:01 AM
The only problem during tonight's run was that some of her cues were not correct (a few cues in the wrong places, too much or too little light in a cue, things like that).  But those will be easy for her to fix and it should all work perfectly tonight, when we have our invited final dress rehearsal. ::) Pray for Rosemary's baby!

On the new "Carols for a Cure," the cast of "The Addams Family" sings a Hanukkah song in which they try spelling it out.  Somehow a "j" ends up in there and a few other odd letters as they stumble through it. It's  really funny.

I'm from the AP Stylebook school that dictates one spelling and one spelling only: Hanukkah. After 25 years of typing it that way, I can't change.

DR Vixmom (and anyone else) there is a spell check on HHW. So even if you are a bad typist you can hit that!  I don't usually do it. But have found it to be helpful occasionally.

I am a good speller. But a couple of my letters tend to stick (which I usually notice). Also I sometimes type so fast that the letters get reversed!

Good morning, all! I slept until 9am because I could not sleep lst night. Around 10:30, I opened the new book on Bock and Harnick and decided around 12:30 to turn out the lights. At 2:30, I had a bowl of cereal, and I have no idea when I finally nodded off. I do recall that my last dream was very funny and rather bawdy.

Today, I wait for the package I shipped from Ohio on Monday and work on Victor Herbert lyrics. My first tasks are to finish the edits on BROADWAY BALLADS and pay a few bills.

And a Happy Hanukka to everyone celebrating it!

Isn't it really early this year? Or is it me?

What will I be doing?

Tomorrow I will actually have off as a vacation day, though we will probably go to the grocery store for a few things.

Beginning Friday I have two weeks of the Stephen J. Falat Holiday Gift Basket Project which I've been doing for the past 12 years. We will work from December 3 to December 17 filling bags with holiday goodies (a sweater, a scarf, gloves, a shirt or top, candy and whatever else we can rustle together) for people w/AIDS or HIV.

From Saturday December 18 through January 2 I'm free of any work related obligations. We won't be traveling this year, other than out to Long Island for Christmas. We have a couple of parties to attend and I hope we will have Dear Mr. Moore over for some Christmas Cheer. Otherwise, it's destined to be a relaxing and re-charging experience.

The scary(?) thing is that the level of "deadpan" inflection of the computer generated voices isn't too far from the level of conversation in the audition room.

I'm also trying to figure out who posted that. I think it may have been one of my friends/fellow audition pianist.

True story:

I just got back from a production meeting with some nice folks that I may (or may not) do business with down the line.

They had this script, which I've not read, and they wanted to know my casting ideas (i.e. how hard would it be to get a script to and a commitment from particular actors).

During the conversation, one person said: "I think that Jack Lemmon would be perfect for this role."

I didn't miss a beat.  I replied, "I agree.  Now, the first thing we have to do is find out where he's buried."

Have you ever seen a person's face turn beet red?

DR Vixmom (and anyone else) there is a spell check on HHW. So even if you are a bad typist you can hit that!  I don't usually do it. But have found it to be helpful occasionally.

I am a good speller. But a couple of my letters tend to stick (which I usually notice). Also I sometimes type so fast that the letters get reversed!

I am very grateful for spell check and don't understand why others don't use it. ;D

My question for ASK BK day.....will 2011 bring us a new Guy Haines cd?

That is the plan.  In fact, we were supposed to have the first four tracks ready by now to do vocals but Grant inherited another TV show to do music for, so he's been crazed with that.  However, around Christmas time he'll be able to get those four tracks done, along with one or two others.  Then, somewhere in February or March, we'll do the balance.

I was wondering the same thing....whether it's early this year, that is..

It changes every year.  In the next 3 years one time it will be end of December and one time it will be end of november!

I like that the few decorations we have are sitting out with the menorah, without competing with Christmas decorations.  Since I'm not sending cards it doesn't matter that I'm late this year ;)  Usually the cards are mailed before Chanukah.  I think the November year will be an issue.

Couldn't you just use some mashed potatoes? or extra potato starch? Or just make really thin "hash brown cakes"?

Reading on I saw recipes that made a "mash" with flower, or starch, & water.  Some recipes add applesauce.  Hash brown cakes are not latkes!!! ;)  It is also possible vegan latkes won't work either.  I think I like the idea of potato starch & water best.

I was at my sister's house and was going to stay to watch the finale of AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL (since I don't get the CW and would have to wait till Saturday to watch it). But her satelite went out right when it started. :(

I'm not sure i may watch it online tomorrow instead of waiting (cause i really don't want to find out who wins).

And I really want to see Top Chef Allstars. So I'm thinking i may just watch this online so I don't have to wait for months until they decide to show it here!

So I ended up coming home and watching Survivor!

What's not vegan about latkes? They're potatoes, onion and, most importantly, oil.

In the following recipe, just use the Vegan Egg Replacer below:

http://www.savorsa.com/2010/11/chefs-corner-bohanans-traditional-hanukkah-latkes/

Vegan Egg Replacer
[makes equivalent of 16 eggs - 3 Tbsp = 1 egg]

¾ cup ground flax
2¼ cups water

bring water to a boil, add ground flaxseed, and let stand for 10 minutes. when it cools, it should be the consistency of egg whites or a lightly beaten egg. refrigerate in a tightly closed container for up to one week.

If you only need a small amount, for each egg being replaced, combine 1 tablespoon ground flax with 2 tablespoons boiling water.

It's a tea-like drink from Argentina that's supposedly packed with vitamins and minerals while it lowers cholesterol and blood pressure, reduces aging, increased the libido, stimulates the immune system, breaks down fat, suppresses appetite, increases focus and basically does everything but the dishes. You drink it out of a gourd, too. Yippee.

I don't need a HUGE win -- maybe  I could clear $500,000... payoff the house, the cars, college... find a nice  part time job somewhere  -

I have my mate full of yerba mate this morning. I hope it helps me concentrate enough to write my story on yerba mate.

Yerba mate is not the name of my next novel.

what the heck is yerba mate?
It's a tea-like drink from Argentina that's supposedly packed with vitamins and minerals while it lowers cholesterol and blood pressure, reduces aging, increased the libido, stimulates the immune system, breaks down fat, suppresses appetite, increases focus and basically does everything but the dishes. You drink it out of a gourd, too. Yippee.

I actually kinda like it.

where do I get it?
Look next to the tea bags in a good supermarket.

Is the gourd optional?

The light were still a bit troublesome, but we were able to run the few scenes that needed work and were able to fix what needed to be fixed.

The theater only has about 75 seats, so that's actually not too difficult. ::)

Finally back from the show and then a quick meal (I only ate two light appetizers at the club).  I must write some very long notes now, but I'll just say the show was a smash, we were completely oversold with more people than I've ever seen in that room and I think we may have finally caught on.  I think the January Sondheim show will do very well, too - there was, in fact, an audible gasp (in a good way) when I announced that Millicent Martin would be the special guest.
