And the word of the day is: YIPS!
I bought my son a Netflix subscription for Christmas last year. He says he has had the same disc for several months -- but he uses the live streaming thing all the time.
Or something like that. I have no idea what any of it means.

Jose, if you are playing auditions for anyone today, you can just blink and be silent at their requests, like in that cartoon.
Friday morning greetings! I will be E & T for most of the day, because Richard and I are going to a noon lecture in Hamilton, a 5pm funeral home visitation, and a 7pm performance of Amahl and the Night Visitors in which a friend of ours is playing one of the night visitors. We hope to be home in time to see the second half of the MAC championship game on ESPN2.
And since we're breaking out the Christmas music here on HHW...I needed that.

Yesterday I finally watched my Netflix Blu Ray selection, CRASH, which has been sitting for about 6 weeks. While there are apparently many films with this title, this one features Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon, Sandra Bullock and many more. To say that this is a dark film is the ultimate understatement. What a "downer!" I don't know why I selected it in the first place. I don't know why I even finished watching it in the second place.Hated that movie. Hated it, hated it.
It apparently won a few Oscars. I suppose that it's intent was to deliver a message, but when I watch a film, I want to be entertained and not be the recipient of a "sermon."
The lesson learned is that maybe I should consider changing my Netflix plan to network streaming, which my new Sony Blu Ray player will do. The downside is that it will decrease the number of selections available, but the upside is that I can immediately watch another. My option now is to slip the disk into its envelope, mail it back to Netflix and wait for my next selection to be sent - usually a two day deal. Oh yeah - and speak out about COMCAST trying to screw with Netflix streaming via COMCAST internet services! >:(
Ok, furnace man (aka Edith's husband) has serviced the furnace for the fall and has raised the height of the intake and exhaust outside so the snow won't get in it again. Time to pay him and go to workThat's a nice thing to have fixed.
I tried to watch this piece of dreck called The Last Airbender by M. Night whatever his name is - this guy has lost his marbles, whatever marbles he had. And worse, it is the softest blu-ray transfer I've ever seen - I don't know if it gets better after the first twenty minutes, but those minutes verge on being completely out of focus.
DR JANE - the advice given was, since you are partners in show business - don't let your wives become friends and start socializing together - then you can never get away from each other - and when the inevitable friction starts, it will affect the working relationship.....or something close to that....
From Stan Laurel to Lou Costello to Jerry Lewis to The Sherman Bros.
BK,
I am not a big fan of FANTASIA either.
I think it was a glorious experiment in animation for its time, but I've never found it to be that entertaining.
Spats is running all over the place. I guess it's safe to say he is feeling better.
Add me to the list of non-"Fantasia" fans. When I was a kid and they would trot out the Disney classics every few years to play on the big screen, that movie was used as a supposed introduction for many to the world of classical music. In my mind, it turned off many a kid to the beauties of the music.

LOL-Yesterday I added it to our NetFlix queue. You who watch the worst movies all the way through turned this off, we are in trouble. ;D At least we won't be getting it in blu-ray.
Afternoon, all!

JMK, there are people who like Lost Horizon, The Musical as a film - not many - but it definitely has its fans - it's when someone is obsessive about such a film that I find it weird.

That is the problem with rumors - they often come true. A friend of mine who works near Olympia (our state capitol) just sent me an e-mail to let me know that the pay cut is already a done-deal.
Dang, TCB.
How close are you to retirement?
Yesterday, I said that I'd have a report on our opening night, but some of us went out after the show and I didn't get home until about 1:30 a.m. I didn't even turn on my computer...I just went to bed.
So, last night's opening night of "Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol" was a success! There were still a couple of light issues (I only comment on them because I'm involved with the lights), but they were minor and we fixed them after the show. The actors were all quite good...no one forgot any lines (although a couple weren't exactly as written ;)) and the audience really responded positively to the show. I think that it's a great show and it'll do quite well in the rest of the run.

Thanks everyone for your comforting words and support. I guess there isn't a lot I can do about it.
TCB - Lost Horizon is out on CD - not sure if it's in print - it was mastered from an LP in the days when they didn't do that so well.

We had a lovely time seeing Amahl tonight and it turns out that we knew all of the kings (2 of them well and Richard has sung with the third). Now we're biting our nails watching Miami trying to hang onto a 5 point lead in the MAC championship game. Only 10 seconds to go!Haven't seen "Amahl" in a few years. That sounds like fun.

"Amahl" was quite well-done - no weak voices, excellent dual pianists (one of them was the church organist who played for our wedding 30 years ago), decent costumes and set. They had a few mic problems, but that seemed to be the only thing not up to par. The dessert theater concept was festive - assorted desserts and beverages served beforehand. There was also a Christmas carol sing-along beforehand, led by the director, a retired vocal music teacher who's a real Pied Piper, especially with kids (Nina, DR Elmore).
Plus an additional furlough day each month starting no later than July.

No, I guess this is at the Olympia Little Theatre.
Good to hear things went well, George. I'm sure no one in the audience noticed the minor miscues.
