Well, you've read the notes, the notes were musical and had life, and now it is time for you to post until the MOOsical cows come home.

So I guess things are slowly returning to normal. It's 5:35am and I'm up. I no longer have a fever. I just have some stomach discomfort but it seems to be slowly dissapating.

Glad you feel better DR BEN.

Perhaps Spats was returned because on the way home, he looked around and said: "Are we going to Laura and Sandra's house now?"

I need to get moving.  Going to try to exercise even though I hate indoor exercise.

I have a stationary bike so I can do some speed biking.

My rebounder broke (mini tramp). Maybe I can get a new one after Christmas.

And then some hooping.

I am supposed to go to a craft fair at 9:15am.

I just want to say that I am glad the woman took Spats back right away. She didn't even get home before changing her mind. So her daughter didn't see him and get attached to him and THEN returned him or let him get out of the kitten stage and then returned him. I am glad she took him back while the bus was still there -- otherwise he would have ended up at the shelter. I was just disappointed that it looked like he got a home, but didn't. He doesn't seem too upset -- he's purring like crazy.

TOD:

This morning, I woke up singing this song from NEW FACES OF 1952:

"Yesterday in old Fall River
Mr. Andrew Borden died.
Now, we got his daughter Lizzie on a charge of homicide.
Some folks say she didn't do it.
Others say, of course, she did.
But, they all agree that Lizzie B. is the problem kind of kid.

"Cause you can't chop your mama up in Massachusetts,
And then go out and blame it on the mice......."

I have now idea why a silly song like that sticks with me.

DR Laura, I was thinking about you this morning as I was playing with Ricky.   He clearly had a family that cuddled with him and treated him very well and loved him.   I think the families who adopt the kittens you foster are very lucky, they are getting kittens who have been socialized so they will be much more likely to be affectionate and welcomed into a loving home

TOD: Pick-me-up songs: A bunch of Cole Porter -- "Begin the Beguine," "Ace in the Hole," "From Now On," "Tomorrow," "Leader of a Big-Time Band," "Just One of Those Things," "The Kling Kling Bird on the Divi Divi Tree," "Blow, Gabriel, Blow."

Of course there are many from Sondheim, Kander and Ebb, Jule Styne and Charles Strouse, among others, that I'll find myself singing. The list could go on for days.

Good morning, all! I slept very late because I can. I was having a dream that I had been brought to LA to write choral arrangements for a show that was clearly a "Glee" ripoff. I had a lot of friends on the project, including Brad Ellis, and a huge chorus of backup singers. I rememebr dreaming about a recording session and losing my wallet - and finding it - and a dream about using one of the music director's songs written for the show and writing an arrangement to be used as a choral underscoring to a crime caper.

Today, I have lots of work here at the apartment. Around 3pm I have to go down to Toyland to retrieve some music and use the piano.

DR Laura, I think Spats believes he is home! Buy him a bus ticket and put him on the next Greyhound.

Happy Birthday, DR Ginny! I know you've received my official eCard.

I used to do "Lizzie Borden" for an audition piece. I was amazed when I found the sheet music.

TOD:
  Romantic songs:
      Thirsty Boots (Eric Andersen)
Long Ago and Far Way (Kern-Gershwin)
Where Do I Go From Here? (Bock & Harnick)
If I Gave You (Timothy Gray-Hugh Martin)
   Pick-Me-Up songs:
It all depends on my mood

I actually found it while cleaning, so I guess that says I shouldn't clean. I had never watched the disc before. It was one of these strange Christmas compilations. Also on it is a Red Skelton Freddie Freeloader mime/dance piece in which the background singers offer up some standards. One of the songs is "But Not for Me" given a whitewash during the Cold War. Instead of singing about the skies of gray in any "Russian play," they make it "Broadway play."

So sad.  We had a neighbor who committed suicide while his wife was in the hospital after having their baby.  His 5 year old son found him with his head blown away.  He thought the neighbor checking in on them would find him.  I'm sure neither were thinking straight at the time.

Ok, we're having a blizzard, snow, wids up to 45 mph, wind chill  something like -13, the interstate is closed, the plows have been called in and the Symphony isn't cancelling.  Seriously, they just announced they are still on.  This is really stupid.  A number of the members of the symphony live in surrounding towns.  There is no way they should be on the roads and while some may not, I'm sure there are those who will try.  I do not get the logic of this...and said so on their facebook page

Ginny, will you have a birthday splurge today? Or are you sticking to your cardiac diet?

DR Laura, I have a couple of small splurges planned today, but will try not to blow my cardiac diet completely.  I'd set aside 2 Hershey's Special Dark miniatures from our Thanksgiving table to eat today, but my friend Becky sent me 6 See's candies (all with almonds, one for each decade).  I just ate the smallest one of those.  Richard, Rob, my Mom, and I are going to Bravo Italian Cucina for dinner and I'm planning to have wine with my meal and their Insalata della Casa, which probably has a high-fat dressing.  I will make a prudent entree choice to compensate.

BTW, Becky also gave me a glass canister filled with 60 (count 'em, 60) chocolate Tootsie Pops!

"...and then I realized, he was home!"

*sniff*

Watching "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" this morning. Surprised I have never seen it. It's all it's said to be and more.

You should see the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 version, DR John G.

I Tivo'ed a movie titled SANTA CLAUS that played last night on TCM.  I have the feeling that it was the K. Gordon Murry version that DR MBarnum is fond of.

After the show, several of us went to a local bar, then restaurant to celebrate a mutual friend's birthday.  I woke up this morning with a bit of a headache and my voice is about an octave lower than usual. :P Otherwise, I feel fine.  It doesn't feel like a cold is coming on.

Ginny, will you have a birthday splurge today? Or are you sticking to your cardiac diet?

BTW, Becky also gave me a glass canister filled with 60 (count 'em, 60) chocolate Tootsie Pops!

:)  I've kept an eye out for them and have hardly seen any pops let alone chocolate.

Thanks John G.  Pillars of the Earth should arrive today from NetFlix.  Did you read the book?  I read it years ago and wasn't as impressed as the general population.  I keep saying one of these days I'll read the sequel.
Sequel?????? :P :o :P :o

"World Without End is the sequel to The Pillars of the Earth. However, it doesn’t matter which you read first. The second book is set in the same town, Kingsbridge, but takes place two hundred years later, and features the descendants of the original characters."

I shouldn't rant about it, but I think it's very irresponsible.  There is a children's choir singing as a part of the event tonight.  I don't have kids, but I wouldn't let them go if I did.

We're having a blizzard at the moment.   It's snowing and the wind is gusting to 45 mph.  Ah, this is what I've been waiting for.  Being officially told not to go anywhere.   OK.

We are expecting between 3 and 8 inches here in Western Washington during the next 24 to 36 hours.  Unfortunately, our inches are in rain, instead of snow.  This storm is courtesy of The Pineapple Express.

T.O.D.

The Original Cast Recording of SEESAW has always been the music of my one great love affair.  He was married and I was the kooky artist, only in this case I was an actor instead of a dancer.

The song THE WAY WE WERE brings a lot of romantic memories to mind.
THE MUSIC THAT MAKES ME DANCE is another life song for me.

As for a feel good song...................

Hmmm, I will have to think about that one.

Almost every river in Western Washington has now been put on Flood Warning.  They are expecting them all to hit flood stage tomorrow.  In addition to the rain causing the flooding, the Pineapple Express has raised the freezing level to 8,000 feet and that is causing all the lowland snow to melt and pour into the rivers, as well.

My daughter's cousins are afraid of me.   That's the way I like it .   They know I'll smack them.  Although It's not really their fault that the parents have no parenting skills of any kind.

Well it's time to get back under the covers.  I've been sick for 6 days, maybe next winter I'll submit to a flu shot.  :-[

Maybe.

It's Rave in the Nave time again, and this time it's Betsy and her Comedy Moms group.  Tonight Betsy will regale the audience with the Nativity Story as Jews would tell it.  It's very funny.

JMK - You inspired me to throw onto YouTube my own Naivete story as only Jewish parents of gay kids would tell it

Laura  - How does JINGLE BELL ROCK affect you?

YINGELE ROCK, parody of JINGLE BELL ROCK - gay Hannukah twist ('yingele" being Jewish for a younbg male child)

LOL.  :D

I rediscovered the joys of exceptionally well-made eggnog tonight. Thankfully, I was driving or I would have dived into the bowl and drunk the whole thing.

I thought I had my email hidden.  I have too many FB friends I met through FB, not that I'm overly concerned as it isn't our main address.  It is my personal one I don't use too often, still I wouldn't want to have to change it.

You may have it hidden, but you will still be able to see it.  You need to have someone who is not a facebook friend to check it for you

Well, the weather forecast sounds awful for tomorrow, but nothing except rain has materialized so far.  So we have to proceed as usual and see what develops overnight.  Something tells me I won't sleep well...

Oh just wait.  We just had rain yesterday....today BLIZZARD!!!

I have been cranky old lady tonight putting posts up about how ridiculous it is that the symphony didn't cancel.  I even called and chewed the guy out who answered.   We have so many elderly people who would assume that they would cancel if it was dangerous.  The 6:00 news said not to drive in town and no parking along the city streets.  All the roads in NW Iowa are closed.  Puhleese.  I hope no one got hurt or went in the ditch trying to get there.

Think I'll go to bed.   Everything is cancelled tomorrow, but the snow has stopped and the wind is supposed to die down sometime tomorrow, so I'll have to dig out.  It was only 4 1/2 inches, but it tends to drift across my driveway, so...

Back from maybe the single most excruciating evening in a theater I've ever had - I don't really need to say more than that - in the audience, since the show deals with ladies of the silver screen (sort of a tribute show by a Brit female singer) they bring a celeb to each show - tonight it was supposed to be Esther Williams but she wasn't well enough to attend - her husband was there.  So was Richard Chamberlain and Linda Gray.  At the top of act two the singer does her bit for Marlene Dietrich - this involves bringing someone up from the audience so she can sing Falling In Love Again to them.  The minute I realized she was going to do that I knew I was in the hot seat - and I was.  Up she brought me - it was okay and I did some takes as you would imagine, but knowing a lot about how audience participation works (thanks to the Brain) what you really want is someone who will be VERY uncomfortable and embarrassed - that's when the real fun can happen.

Anyway, the lady's husband played the piano, operated the endless video, and pushed the buttons for the pre-recorded tracks, which were the worst synth-laden tracks I've ever heard.  It was like a bad Vegas lounge show.
