Well, you've read the notes, the notes were beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're also beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

And the word of the day is: VENTIFACT!

And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday wish to former dear reader tomovoz.

Morning all.
That is all.

Good morning, all! I slept quite poorly, but, since I did sleep about thirteen hours yesterday, I can't be too surprised. I figure by 8pm tonight I'll be comatose. Much as I'd like to stay in another day in an attempt to shake this cold, I have to deal with closing the McGlinn estate by Dec 31 and pulling music for the Library of Congress. After that, I believe have a meeting at Toyland. It may not occur because I never heard back yesterday from this person paying a visit. If it soesn't, I have other things to accomplish there.

Haven't touch a box of chocolates in a long time. Never subscribed to the notion that life was like one.
But when I did, I liked the solid milk chocolates and then ones with caramels.
Hated the Turkish Delghts. Never could figure out what the delight was made of.

OLD TOPIC OF THE DAY
Recurring Dream
As a child I would have a recurring dream but with a "special guest star" playing one the same role over the years. Memory serves they were Roger Moore, Don Adams, Sean Connery. The plot was basically took place in a small European town possible Spain or Italy. It was a Sunday and the bad guy planted a bomb in the church where th whole town was. Me and the special gues star had to figure out where it was and then save everyone. The dream ended as the two huge doors of the church closed by themselves and the church blew up. The explosion would always ake me up

DR Jose and other TAR fans. I was reading something and happened to come across a list for TAR 18. It was the same as my list. But one team is different. Instead of Michael and Kevin from season 17 they had Ron and Christina (which I actually think may be right) since I remember reading this a while ago.
TAR 18- unfinished business
Kynt and Vyxsin
Amanda and Kris
Jaime and Cara
Kisha and Jen
Margie and Luke
Mel and Mike
Flight Time and Big Easy
Zev and Justin
Jet and Cord
Gary and Mallory
Michael and Kevin or Ron and Christina.

There is a new GOOD WIFE tonight.

Someone at my library emailed me. I think they found out what happened last week when my reservation went missing.
Apparently YA books are bought be the children's librarian. The book I wanted was an adult book but it is under the young adult heading. So my reservation was in the adult suggestion box. And the person who got the book's suggestion was in the children's suggestion box.
Sort of a dumb system. The children's librarian said she would try to always check the adult suggestion box from now on so this didn't happen again. And they will be computerizing suggestions (which they should have done long ago) hopefully soon.

Gosh we keep having so much snow here. Yuck yuck and yuck. I really hope it will hold off tomorrow afternoon and evening as my dad is having a birthday party. And my sister won't drive in a snowstorm. So i'm not sure what we would do.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And there's a very light - and very pretty - dusting of snow in/on the backyard. :)

*Of course, our forecasted high temp today is only supposed to be 28, so... At least it looks pretty (for now).

DR Cillaliz - Glad you enjoyed A Chorus Line.

At Christmas my aunt usually has boxes of chocolates. My favorite part is looking at the little booklet and seeing all the different kinds. I used to love doing this when i was little! I like caramel and those filled with cherry cream. I do like milk chocolate better than dark.

Tuesday morning greetings! It's cold and sunny here in SW Ohio - my favorite kind of winter day. I have some errands - post office, Hallmark store, etc.
Thank you to DR Michael S for the birthday wish - are you feeling better?
-
TOD - boxes of chocolates are no longer on my gift list, but I used to go for the caramels first, followed by raisin clusters, almond clusters, and honeycomb chips. The fruit creams were my least favorite, especially strawberry and lemon. Orange and raspberry were OK as long as they were covered in dark chocolate.
Now I satisfy my chocolate tooth with Tootsie Pops and Quaker chocolate rice cakes. Oh, and those hard candies from See's that DR Jane sends from time to time.

I'm up, I'm up, after not nearly enough sleep - can't do these late nights anymore.

What's interesting is that all the people involved have famous family connections:
Mr. Birch and Ms. Birch said that he had been her manager for years. Mr. Birch and Ms. Birch’s mother, Carol Connors, were stars in pornographic films in the 1970s. Ms. Connors is best known for “Deep Throat.”

Ms. Birch has been replaced by her understudy, Emily Bridges, whose father is the actor Beau Bridges; Ms. Bridges’s role will be played by Katharine Luckinbill, whose parents are the actors Laurence Luckinbill and Lucie Arnaz.

Speaking of chocolates, I received a very nice box of Teuscher champagne truffles from our Canadian producer. I think these are about the best chocolates I've ever had. It took an act of sheer will power to share them with friends when they came over. Yummy!

Of course in came home with me, but it's now a "Michigan Spirit Basket."

To All:
New Year's Eve Early Closure – The Library Director has indicated that libraries and the Service Center will close at 6:00PM on Friday, 12/31/2010.
This is not paid holiday time so staff who are regularly scheduled to work beyond 6:00PM that evening will need to use vacation time or coordinate with their supervisor to adjust their schedule.
Have a safe holiday!
And then a little later, someone from one of the branches sent this e-mail:
We'll have no problem getting everyone out by 6:00, since all library branches close by 5:00 on Fridays. =)

Ballerina Jenifer Ringer....
too skinny, too fat, or just right?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20101213/us_yblog_thelookout/sugar-plum-fairy-doesnt-want-apology-from-critic-who-called-her-fat
The critic didn't call her too fat, just said she'd looked like she ate one sugar plum too many, and he also called a male dancer too fat, but no one's making a fuss over that.
But since Ringer has suffered from anorexia in the past, it was a rather cruel thing to say.
I wonder ow many girls are going to develop anorexia once Michele Obama's school program gets going.
I saw the story & think it is cruel to make comments like that anorexia or not. Supposedly Karen Carpenter developed anorexia after similar comments.
You could be right, while the school program is a step in the right direction it is a long way from reaching the goal of teaching healthy eating habits, IMHO.

Tonight is the annual flight home to South Carolina.
The past week has been EXHAUSTING. So many things to do. Today has been rather relaxing. Have been packing in small doses. I'll be picked up by shuttle in three hours. My flight leaves at 9:40 p.m. Will be in SC tomorrow morning around 10 a.m. est.
Am currently watching/listening to the Blu-ray of "Polar Express".
Earlier today, I dabbled with the Blu-rays of "Inception" and "Eclipse."
In both cases, there is far too much smoochy-smoochy stuff going down. What is it today with films in which the actors have to smooch loudly and smackily? I don't want to hear that stuff.
It's bad enough that the kisses go on and on and on...with all the slurpy/smacking sounds.
It really brings the films' proceedings to a screeching halt.
Oh, well....

Oh i knew they didn't bump me intentionally. But I was mad especially since I had made the effort the week before to make sure my reservation was not lost.
I had no idea that the children's librarian had the YA book suggestions. So at least this cleared up a few things. Plus she sounded like she took my suggestions seriously.

DR Ben just telephoned me. He will E&T for the next couple of days. He is being admitted to Beth Israel Hospital for appendicitis.
The appendix is too inflamed to be removed so the doctors are treating it with large doses of antibiotics. In January they will assess the next step. We spoke very briefly and he is waiting for a room. I will talk to him tomorrow once he's settled. He expects to be in through Thursday or Friday.

Crazy day. Did my errands and whatnot, dealt with the CDR mono thing, which, as it turns out, is correct - the "stereo" LP release was mono, maybe gussied up with a little electronic processing. So, mono it is, and we found two bonus tracks, which is fun. Sent the CDR to the mastering guy, had a sandwich and onion rings, did the Costco run, got approval on the packaging of one release, and now am getting ready for tonight's release partay, which I'm sort of not even looking forward to going to. I'll probably only stay an hour or so. Also, the insured priority package that should have been here on Saturday (two packages were sent from the same person at the same time - one arrived on Saturday, the other is still MIA) - we called the post office and they said the insurance isn't trackable (even though the guy was told it was) and that we now get to play a waiting game for the next twenty-one days, which is the soonest a claim can be filed. The post office thinks it will arrive. I hope they're right. Had a nice visit with Mr. Art Man and did do a trade and got two new fun pieces.

Did I mention that last night there was all kinds of racket going on, so I assumed that it was Ricky and got up all mad at him. I didn't realize until this morning that it was the deer!! They bent the metal shepard's hook holding my birdfeeder and drug the feeder out into the middle of the yard! Good grief. I think they are really hungry, but they are just causing too much damage this year. I know it's the deer because there are tracks everywhere. So no more food for the birds.

Yogi has always had allergy problems so I insisted on taking him to the vet today (Craig did go with us of course). Blood work has been done to find out what he is allergic to. He also licks his paws until there is a large puddle of "water" under his feet. The vet swabbed the area and found a yeast infection. Yogi now has special wipes for his feet & meds twice a day. Since Craig can't keep Yogi still long enough to trim his toe nails we also had that done.

And to Hell with Gift Horses; this is a very cheap box of chocolates.

If you want to tease yourself, take a look at the candy offerings at The Vermont Country Store (http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/products/all-natural-food-and-classic-candy/chocolate-candy-bars-and-candies.html).
Nonpareils!!! I am in heaven.

Hmmm... This could get (more) interesting...
Actress Thora Birch Fired From ‘Dracula’ (http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/12/14/actress-thora-birch-fired-from-dracula/)
*And I guess Playbill.com should update their lead story accordingly.
And so much for top billing!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO TOMOVOZ
Maybe He'll Visit Today
I suspect he lurks some days.
Actually, I don't believe he does. He has told me on several occasions that he has never come back and lurked; and I don't think he has any reason to lie aboiut it to me.

I have just ordered 2 tickets for RISE (http://www.rise1961.com), the documentary film about the 1961 US figure skating team that died in a plane crash on their way to the world championships. One of the tickets is a Christmas present for my mother, who made it clear that all she wants for Christmas is more time with me than she's had in the past several months.
Thank you for telling us about that, Ginny. I hadn't heard anything about it.
-
Speaking of chocolates, I received a very nice box of Teuscher champagne truffles from our Canadian producer. I think these are about the best chocolates I've ever had. It took an act of sheer will power to share them with friends when they came over. Yummy!
Oh! My! God! Aren't they heaven on earth?

So today, our HR manager sent out this e-mail:
;D
Why isn't that a holiday for you? New Year's Day is a national holiday, and since it falls on a Saturday, Friday becomes the paid holiday.

You're welcome, DR TCB. They were promoting it pretty heavily during the broadcasts of some competitive skating several weeks ago. It probably doesn't sound like such a festive Christmas present for my mother, but that event occurred about the time I started following skating on TV and my mom and I watched a lot of it together. I don't think it will be as depressing as it sounds.

Next time I pass one of their stores I'll have to try a Champagne truffle.

Okay, so BK's been talking about packages from Amazon.fr (France) not being delivered...well, I was trying to reconcile the library's credit card statement and the one item that I ordered from Amazon.fr was cancelled as undeliverable! I got the notice last month, but since I don't read French, I didn't look at it. ::) It wasn't until I saw the amount credited back on the credit card statement that I looked through my work e-mails and translated it on Yahoo's Babel Fish (http://babelfish.yahoo.com/).
The order was only for one (1) copy and fortunately there aren't any requests...but still, what's that all about??

We don't get New Year's Eve off. You would have to use vacation to get the day off. Since New Year's Day is on a day that I'm not normally scheduled to work, I get to add 8 hours to my monthly vacation accrual for January.
It's the same with Christmas...Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are both paid holidays for us. Since Christmas Eve is on a Friday, we get the day off. Since Christmas Day is on a Saturday, we get to add 8 hours to December's monthly vacation accrual. If I normally worked on Saturday (like the people who work in the branch libraries), I would get the day off instead.
Make sense??

And on that note (pick a note...any note), I'm off. Time to head home for some TV watching.
Until later!

The ones covered in chocolate.
Ditto. I'd eat any and all, though my favs are the ones with a filling that has a contrasting texture, such as nuts, coconut or gooey toffee.

Watching "Miracle on 34th Street" for the first time in ages. Forgot my favorite scene, when the drunken wife warbles about how much she'd love to have Santa Claus come live with her.

bk - I noticed that Time-Warner was tweeting about the problems in Southern California again earlier tonight. I'm guessing they must be dealing with some sort of bug in their system.

When the store were fairly new to the States I used to get their Carmel filled milk chocolate candies. As the prices went up I fortunately tired of them.
Here in NYC, there is a Teuscher store in Rockefeller Center, as well as one on the Upper East Side. Lately, it seems like the Rock Center location has added a "tourist mark-up" to most of their items. :-\

I'm pretty sure that Michelle Obama's new school program does NOT include pictures of wafer-thin models and actresses, nor does it use Barbie dolls in it's promotional materials. Promoting healthier eating habits will not cause anorexia. Getting girls and young women to stop comparing themselves to the "role models" they see in magazines and on TV and in the movies will.

My other favorite box of chocolates comes from here:
http://www.burdickchocolate.com/
Walpole, NH is where these chocolates, and Ken Burns are based, and I believe he owns stock in this company, too!
DR edisaurus - You may not want to know this, but there is an L.A. Burdick Chocolate Cafe in NYC on East 20th Street. It's conveniently located halfway between City Bakery and Shake Shack. ;)

In other news...
Earlier tonight, I attended a performance of Three Pianos (http://nytw.org/three_pianos_info.asp) at the New York Theatre Workshop (http://nytw.org/).
What an amazingly cool evening of song and theatre! The three actors - along with three pianos and various props - basically perform Schubert's great song cycle, "Winterreise" ("Winter's Journey"), but they also deconstruct it, embellish it, and mess it up a bit. It's very hard to describe, it's truly unique. -They even served wine - for free - before and during the proceedings!
There was also a talkback tonight after the show with the cast and two Schubert experts - one from Juilliard and one from Fordham - and that was quite fun and informative too.
*Best of all, I won the tickets via Twitter. :)
-
Back from the Bukowsical partay. I stayed until nine and then vamoosed. Good food, some of the cast members performed, and there were lots of nice folks there - more in the notes.

Topic of the Day: just about all of them. My sister only likes specific kinds of chocolates in the boxes of assorted chocolates. A few years ago, my sister got so frustrated with boxes of mixed chocolates that whenever she got one, even if it had a guide to what kinds were in the box, she would cut every chocolate in half so that she would know exactly what she was eating...and what she could avoid. I think that that's a good idea.
