Well, you've read the notes, the notes did not stumble, and now it is time for you to post until the stumbling cows come home.

In my CD player right now that I've been listening to this evening:  The Manhattan Transfer...various live (but not commercially available ;)) performances

In my DVD player:  a documentary that I got from the library called "Fagbug (http://www.amazon.com/Fagbug-Erin-Davies/dp/B003DI5HGS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1294995562&sr=8-1)":

On the 11th Annual National Day of Silence, Erin Davies was victim to a hate crime in Albany, New York. Because of sporting a rainbow sticker on her VW Beetle, Erin's car was vandalized, left with the words "fag" and "u r gay" placed on the driver's side window and hood of her car. Despite initial shock and embarrassment, Erin decided to embrace what happened by leaving the graffiti on her car. She took her car, now known worldwide as the "fagbug," on a 58-day trip around the United States and Canada. Along the way, Erin discovered other, more serious hate crimes, had people attempt to remove the graffiti, and experimented with having a male drive her car. After driving the fagbug for one year, Erin decided to give her car a makeover.

Sounds interesting.

I'm up because of a garage door that picked this morning not to function properly upon the DP's departure.  Somehow, I was left with the task of getting it down.  It's down finally, but there is something wrong with one of the tracks, or something on the door itself and at 4:00am, I wasn't about to figure it out.

However, I'm up for the day.

Quote
One person who is championing the show is conservative commentator Glenn Beck, who has seen "Spider-Man" twice and is giving it glowing reviews both on the air and on his Twitter account. "This is better than 'Wicked!'" he raved Wednesday on "The Glenn Beck Program," which has an estimated 6 million listeners.

Better than Wicked?  Yes folks, this is what we have been reduced to.

TOD:

CD - Buffy Sainte Marie "She Used to Want to Be A Ballerina"

DVD - rewatching some episodes of the THE GALE STORM SHOW sent to  me by DR MBARNUM.  I especially like PAT ON THE BACK that features guest star Pat Boone (Courtesy of Chevrolet), Gale's fellow DOT recording artist.  Pat sings FIVE songs, Gale does a solo, and they do a duet....ALL in 25 minutes of a comedy with a plot.....  I am guessing music rights (what a nightmare) might be one of the reasons that we won't see an official release of this show for awhile - if ever.

Good morning, all! I have a trip to the NYPL today for some work on historic newspapers online. Last night I had a couple of weird dreams, but all I remember is something about a revival of SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE and cast party.

This weekend is not going to be a good one with too much work to accomplish and I'll be in Toyland with a lot of edits from Act One of LADY OF THE SLIPPER to finish this weekend. Since I have to mail my estimated IRS payment today, I need the invoice I send on Sunday to pay for it. It's complicated by the three days I missed last week in recording and the two days I lost in DC this week. Oy!

I will not be watching much this weekend, but I can listen. Right now I'm listening to the Metropolitan Opera broadcast from 1958 of DIE FLEDERMAUS with Roberta Peters, Hilde Gueden, Theodore Uppman and Frank Guerrera.

Re All That Chat - Ann Miner quoted in Michael Riedel's column today:

I'M getting e-mails accusing me of being the hacker who's shut down All That Chat, the theater site on which I've been called "a sad little man," "Addison De-Halfwit" and "an anorexic Pillsbury Dough Boy."
Nice to know one has fans.
But listen. I have a flip cellphone and still pay $25 a month for my AOL e-mail account.
I may be a hack, but I'm certainly not a hacker.
Some have speculated that the culprits are the producers of "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark," which comes in for a daily drubbing.
But Ann Miner, who runs the site, dismisses such talk.
"I think the producers of 'Spider-Man' have other things to do," she says dryly.
Her candidate is some poster, as yet unknown, who wrote something incendiary and got thrown off the site.
"People really get angry when we do that," she says. "But at this point there is no indication of the hacker's identity."
Miner says All That Chat is running anti-virus programs and installing a security system.
She expects the site to be up today.
I'll read it and weep.

In other news...

I had a good dinner and a good time with my friends last night out in Flushing, alas, due to some train and people delays, we didn't end up getting to the restaurant until around 9:00, and we didn't head back into Manhattan until 11:00. So, by the time I got home - after being up since 5:00am - I basically got right into bed and fell asleep for a good, solid eight hours.

It was nice to sleep in my own bed again. And it was also nice to realize that I've got my "land legs" back already. :)

I'm sorry I'm late in posting about the last Kritzerland at the Gardenia show. But it was marvelous! Mark and I are Sondheim fans, so we enjoyed it very much. Bruce warned we wouldn't recognize many of the songs, but I recognized more than I thought I would, thanks to several S.T.A.G.E. shows being devoted to Sondheim. Lordy, there were soooo many lyrics - who could blame the cast for a little forgetfulness, but the accompanist appeared to have lyrics this time, so he could help out. The "hidden track" for "I'm Not Getting Married Today" was probably one of the bigger surprises of the evening - sung unusually slow and USO style (think Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy), and as Bruce pointed out, you could actually understand all the words for once. The other highlight was Millicent Martin, whom I immediately recognized, but couldn't figure out where I had seen her. It drove me crazy for the rest of the show! We had to look her up on IMDB.com when we got home. She'd been on "Frasier" - that was it! She was Daphne's mother.

So, before the show, standing right in front of our wonderful front row table was Gary Stockdale and he just happened to be talking about Bukowsical to someone, so I mentioned that Mark had just given me the CD for Xmas and I'd been playing it in my car. His eyes lit up and he said, "You're kidding! If you were standing up I'd kiss your feet right now." Hmmmm...is the CD not selling well?

I think the only time I ever experienced sea legs was when I was nine-years old and had spent the day sailing around Puget Sound with my dad on the Coast Guard ship that he was stationed on at the time.  I've been on about five or six cruises over the past couple of years, and the transition back to land has always been an easy one for me.

The other oddity of the evening was Mark's meal. He ordered something not on the menu, which probably every waiter/waitress hates, but it was very simple. He just wanted pasta in a butter/olive oil sauce. After a while she brought to the table a dish of about 5 pats of butter, and a small bottle of olive oil. Mark said to me, "are they going to bring me a plate of dry pasta and I have to make the sauce myself?" Yep - that's exactly what the waitress did. We'd never seen anything like it. Amazingly, the pasta was hot enough to melt the butter and Mark enjoyed it very much, and even said he would order it again.

I've been curious about some copyright issues, maybe BK has some words of wisdom.  This also applies to the TOD, as I have been listening to the LP series I mentioned the other day, Time-Life's mid-70's opus, AS YOU REMEMBER THEM.  I'm really curious how "recreating" arrangements worked in terms of copyright.  I'm sure Capitol licensed things properly with Harry Fox (or whoever handled mechanicals back in the day), but were they required to pay a fee to the original arrangers/orchestrators?

Matthew, we just went through this at our old home which is now our exciting rental property.  :)  What had happened with us is that the emergency release (the thing that makes it a "manual" in case the power goes out) had been partially detached.  That automatically takes the chain off the track.  On ours, all I needed to do was to pull it down to completely release it, then pull it into the "attached" position (which is usually toward the back of the garage--back meaning away from the door itself).

I got an inquiry from Rodgers and Hammerstein about cutting down the size of the orchestra for the revised version of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, which I did for them in 2000. Since I have no memory of the orchestration I went to the RHO website to find that the orchestration they've been renting for the past 8 or so years is still credited to the Broadway orchestrator.

The first one--Time-Life, in both THE SWING ERA and AS YOU REMEMBER THEM, re-recorded other peoples' arrangements.  For instance, THE SWING ERA re-did Glenn Miller's version of A String of Pearls, etc.  AS YOU REMEMBER THEM dealt with more contemporary tunes and arrangements, so that's really what's piqued my curiosity.  For example, they do everything from Bert Kaempfert to Henry Mancini to Percy Faith to Billy Vaughn to Tijuana Brass and on and on.  I'm really curious if they had to pay some sort of licensing fee to "recreate" the originals.

iPod:  Old Crow Medicine Show -- Tennesee Pusher, SHE LOVES ME ocr

Tivo:  I LOVE YOU, ALICE B. TOKLIS from TCM last night...

DVD:  I will probably pick up a copy of THE SOCIAL NETWORK after work (I have a coupon!)

I think the theme song from ALICE B. is better than the movie (and that isn't saying much).

I am sitting here at my computer with the song THERE'S A SUCKER BORN EVERY MINUTE running through my head.. again and again.  Last year, when I was on my cruise with Oceana Cruises, I spent a great deal of time in the computer room (you guys might remember my e-mails).  The two gentlemen who ran the Computer Room were both very nice and very helpful.  They were both (I believe) from India.  One of them was  hoping for something more than just my computer buisness.

Anyway, they taught a lot of classes during our 10 day cruise.  On my next to last night onboard, I asked one of the men to make me a backup copy of my photos; just in case something should happen that I would lose the  memory card.  When I went to pick up the disk, the younger of the two men who was helping me that day took me over to their corner of the room that they used for their office.  I was looking at all of the things they had for sale, including a four disc PhotoShop 5.0.  I asked him if that was the entire PhotoShop 5.0 program, which he assured me it was.  I bought it, brought it home, and promptly put it in a drawer and forgot about it.

This week I moved some shirts around and came upon my four disc set, so I decided to download it and play around with it this weekend.  Well, guess what I actually bought!   A four-disc tutorial on how to use PHotoShop 5.0.  It does not however, contain the program PhotoShop 5.0.

I am back! On the way in I ran into my super who has informed me the Oaf's apartment has been rented to a student. The super assures me he has no dog. I hope he doesn't tunr out to be ne of the midnight crowd from Christmas week.

Vibes the student studies at night instead of partying.

I feel bad that the previous renter might have ruined the chances of a responsible pet owner renting apartments in your building.

LOL at least the pasta was cooked. :)

Thank you for your enjoyable report on the evening activities.

DR Jane, I had the same concern about the pasta!

At the time I'd posted that I was moving slowly and had only written three pages I'd actually written six.  What's confusing me a little is that I cut four pages last night, so I'm four pages shorter than I was.  Still, moving right along.  I had a very nice late lunch at Hugo's and now I'm basically done for the day, save for maybe doing another couple of pages and then watching a motion picture.

Keith has been reading NORTH AND SOUTH on his Nook Color so I began reading it along with him.  I read at night after he turns out the lights.  He doesn't mind the light on the Nook & prefers it to my flashlight.  After two nights I'm getting the hang of it.  This morning it was still dark out when I began reading & I should have gone back to sleep.  I found the back light too bright first thing in the morning.  I need to see if a gray background will help.

With the book cover it is easier to hold than a regular book.  My biggest complaint it getting the knack of turning the pages without sending me somewhere I don't want to go.  Yesterday morning I went to a completely different book & didn't have a clue how to get back to my book. ;D  Now I know.

I also have to read two books at once so I have something to read while Keith is reading his Nook.

You should go to the store and try out the regular Nook.  visually it's like reading a book.  You couldn't read in the dark, but it isn't bright like looking at a computer screen.  I think it's easier on my eyes

True but the reason for me to use this is to read in the dark instead of using a flashlight which hurts my neck & bothers Keith, plus I'm constantly changing batteries.

There are Nook covers with lights

They look like the lights I have tried for regular books.  I never found one I was comfortable using.

I'm enjoying The Lacuna.  By the time I got to bed this past week I only read a couple pages at a time, so I have a long way to go, but it's interesting

Later in the book I began to get frustrated that Kingsolver was trying to impress all the history she learned onto the reader.  Others in my book group didn't feel as strongly about it as I did.  I will be interested in your opinion.

That is because with a regular book there really isn't any spot where you can hook the light that doesn't get disturbed when you turn a page.  It is different with an e-book.

And to completely light a large book it is too bright for someone trying to sleep next to you.

For anyone who watches HUMAN TARGET fox is showing last Wednesday's 2 hour episode tonight (it was not on because of the memorial).

THANK YOU!!!  Had you not mentioned it, or Keith not accidentally deleted HUMAN TARGET, we would have missed it.  When Keith accidentally deleted Target we checked to see if it would be on again & found the 2 hour episode to record tonight.  Honestly we were totally confused as to what, if anything, we missed & why it was on tonight.

The only reason I noticed is because i check my tv at least twice a day. And it's a good thing I did because this episode of HT cancelled out my episode of the CLOSER (on at the same time). I'm gonna record HT on Sunday instead (it airs on a channel here called SPACE).

I actually like the flowers from Costco. They are nice and much more affordable than at most florists!

I was reading my niece the kids book TANGLED (based on the recent Rapunzel movie). She is 5. Now I have no idea what age this book is geared towards. But everytime there was a semi-difficult word in the book I would ask her if she knew what that meant. And most times she didn't. You'd think that they would use words that little kids would know.  But maybe it's just my niece who has not been schooled about thieves and prisoners.

Good Evening!

Well... A couple of hours ago, I headed down to my friend's new restaurant just to see how things were going. -They opened six weeks ago. Well... I ended up hosting. :)

I had a good time, but I was literally on my feet for eight hours, and, boy, are my "dogs" tired. And sleepy. So, I shall catch up in the morning.

Goodnight.

CRAP!  I went home to pick up my cat to take her to the vet (her claw issue, again) and I forgot to set my DVR.  I was so grateful that I was able to get her into the cat carrier without having to get her out from under the bed that I just totally forgot about it. :P Now, I'll have to go home before I go to the theater.  I'm just glad that I live so close to where I work.

I missed this.  I thought the paw problem was taken care of.  Is Ebonie back home & how is she?

She's home and doing much better...the fungus came back and one of her claws grew into the pad.  With my new job, I wasn't paying as much attention as I should've and had to take her in to get it clipped.  My bad. :-[ They trimmed all her claws and cleaned them up, which will make it a lot easier to use the ointment.
