Well, you've read the notes, the notes were fashion conscious, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently trying to win an authentic dirndle dress on eBay.

As promised, but late, here is our new Kritzerland release.  You know the deal - 19.98 plus 3.75  shipping (23.73) via paypal to kritzerland at adelphia dot net.

DOING BUSINESS IN MOSCOW CAN BE MURDER

Kritzerland is proud to present a new limited edition soundtrack release:

GORKY PARK

Music Composed and Conducted by James Horner

Based on the 1981 novel by Martin Cruz Smith, the 1983 film adaptation of Gorky Park was a suspenseful, exciting thriller with an expert cast, including William Hurt, Lee Marvin, Ian Bannen, Brian Dennehy, Joanna Pacula, and Richard Griffiths.  The screenplay was by Dennis Potter, and the director was Michael Apted.

The New York Times called the film “a taut, clever thriller throughout, with Mr. Apted’s direction establishing its intensity immediately and sustaining it well.  Ralf G. Bode’s cinematography and James Horner’s score go a long way toward setting a hauntingly bleak mood, and the supporting players, particularly Brian Dennehy and Ian Bannen, are excellent.”  The film’s screenplay won an Edgar Allen Poe award, and Pacula was nominated for a Golden Globe.

James Horner’s score is really integral to the film, helping establish its various moods and characters, and really notching up the tension and romance.  It has some of Horner’s best themes, including a stunning one for Irina, the character played by Joanna Pacula.   By 1983, Horner had only been writing film scores for five years, but he’d already built up a substantial body of work and was considered to be one of the best of the up-and-comers of that generation, thanks to his terrific work on films in every kind of genre, including Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, 48 Hrs, Wolfen, Deadly Blessing, The Hand, Something Wicked This Way Comes, Krull, The Dresser, Testament, Brainstorm, among others.

He would, of course, go on to be one of the most successful film composers in history, turning out scores for both blockbusters and more intimate films such as Cocoon, Uncommon Valor, The Journey of Natty Gann, Commando, An American Tail, Willow, Field of Dreams, Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, Glory, The Rocketeer, Aliens, Braveheart, Apollo 13, The Mask of Zorro, as well as his scores for two of the most successful films ever made, James Cameron’s Titanic and Avatar – and that doesn’t even scratch the surface.  Horner is both an Oscar and Grammy Award-winner.

Gorky Park was originally released on LP and CD by Varese Sarabande.  For this release, we have completely remastered the sound and offer two presentations of the score – the first in film order, and the second in album order, two very different listening experiences.   While there are a handful of additional cues in the film, most of them are very brief and are mostly reiterations of the cues that were assembled for the soundtrack album by Horner himself.

So, here is James Horner’s great score for Gorky Park, one of his finest from an especially rich time in his scoring career.   It’s everything a thriller score should be – and more.

This release is limited to 1000 copies only.  The price of the CD is $19.98, plus shipping.   Additionally, we are offering a special deal with the purchase of this release.  Go to the item page and click on the link to find out about it.

CD will ship the first week of March – however, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks earlier (we’ve been averaging four weeks early).   To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

We saw Antonia yesterday in the Riverdale Childrens Theatre production of The Wizard of Oz. She was wonderful. As with all CT productions it had ups and downs but overall the production was lots of fun and very inventive in terms of sets and effects and, as I mentioned, our own Dear Antonia was great!

Good morning, all! Last night's dreams were back to dead relatives: my dad was in this one, and it's all rather fragmentary, something about picking him up in (I think) Xenia, OH, and a lot of driving through alleys and gas stations to get to the right location, the bathroom wall of our old house on Goldman covered with wasps and roaches, my brother Macbeth and me fighting about a pesticide, and a porn movie display.  I suppose the wasps could be a Lady M reference, but it was all over the place

I think my new neighbor in 4C is moving in soon. I heard the squeaky door above me around 7:30, but I must say, the new tenant's awfully quiet so far. One of my friendsw on the 5th floor was telling me the new neighbor in 5C had a huge noisy party the other night and there were lots of people coming and going past 12:30. I told her to call the police.

Iy's another NYPL day: Victorine Hays is today's object of inquiry.

The dirndl dresses of the late 60s are adorable - not like the traditional - short (just above the knees, with a high waist.  I know because I bought one as research and Miss Juliana Hansen modeled it for me.

I won't say that I hated it.  There were parts I liked. I did absolutely hate that they veered from realty and killed Joe. I thought that was awful.

I am so sad that the series is over.

RE: the series finale, I liked how Joe waited for her. That was so sweet and made me cry. I liked the final credits where everybody came out. BUT I HATED that they killed Joe. What was up with that? Especially since the real Joe Dubois is alive.

I didn’t hate that they went forward in time 7 years. But I did hate that we didn’t get to say goodbye to Bridget. And I hated that all that was a dream that Joe sent to her.

If they really wanted to kill Joe (which I wouldn’t like no matter what) then why not have Allison be a lawyer and have Joe be her ghost sidekick. That at least could have been interesting.

The very end left me with a good feeling. But the rest of the show not so much.

Yes, it was a strange way to end a show based upon an actual, living person and her still-living family.

But then...perhaps they didn't want to leave any questions open about whether there might be made-for-TV movies continuing the story. (?)

Busy, busy weekend. Had people over last night for the first time in ages, so I really did have to clean the house, at least a superficial cleaning. I need to start on a medium cleaning and work up to the deep one.

But the evening was fun. People ate the pulled pork I made plus everything else that they brought to go with it. I made a fire in the fireplace and that made the evening warm and cozy.

TOD: I clean up real good, I'm told, but my favorite clothes are a worn pair of jeans and a T-shirt or pullover. Actually, a pair of shorts (not those midi-length horrors that pass for shorts nowadays) or a bathing suit for the beach and a T-shirt I like even better.

I've watched "The Uninvited" (Paramount, 1944) with Ray Milland, Ruth Hussey, and Gail Russell about three times this weekend.  Recorded it, again, off TCM...this time onto a new HDD-DVD recorder.

If anyone out there wants a DVD-R, leave me a private message and a mailing address.  I still have it on my HDD and it takes only a couple of minutes to burn a copy.

I found the story of the woman searching for her biological family, & found her half sister to be Oprah Winfrey, very interesting & moving. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_tv_oprah_winfrey

I'd seen the commercial for today's Oprah show and set my DVR to find out what the great revelation was.  I'm sure the episode will be quite moving. :)

Hopefully I an watch it I am working on a few projects and I need to remember that is it is on aqt 4

There are two major repositories for the Booth Tarkington papers: Indana Historical Society in Indianapolis and the Princeton Library, I guess I will make a trip to Princeton when the weather warms up, before I head off to visit DR JRand60.

I've written about three pages and am about to end a chapter.  After that, four chapters to go.  I'm in the trickiest part of the book and in every Hofstetter book, this is the part that's the hardest - I always go a little nutty during these last four chapters, trying to have clarity and suspense and a really good reveal.

Sorry DR Druxy.  I didn't think I gave anything away & Jennifer left a spoiler space.

As for what Jennifer said, I completely agree.

I'm also confused at how someone could be spoiled.  Why read a discussion called "SERIES FINALE OF MEDIUM if you don't want to know about what happened in the series finale of Medium.

Not worth discussing.

Sorry I even brought it up.

It's ok.  You need to get the hang of skipping subjects that might disclose more info than you want.  It is possible you might enjoy the episode more having an idea of what happens.

I've done about eight pages.  Just met with a potential new helper, who seems terrific.  She was actually in The Roxy, and she's a hard worker.  She seems to understand the deal and really wants to do it.  I'll make sure this current shipment is finished and done, and then I think I'll call a meeting with the helper's boyfriend and best friend and discuss all the various scenarios that might happen.  IF I hire this new gal, I'd have them come in while I'm there to show her how all the shipping stuff works on the computer.  Once she knows that, it's probably very simple to do the switchover.

I think I'll take a little movie break now, and then do two more pages a little later.  The good news is I have pretty much worked out all the final details for the last chapters.  As with the last book, I'd been waffling back and forth about the who of the mystery, but, as with the last book, it's going to be who I suspected it would be, although it was close between two other people.  In the end, I think I've made the right choice, but the good news is that if Muse Margaret doesn't like it, it would be fairly easy to go back in and just change that, as it would only involve the last two chapters.

It would take, at least, 24 hours for me to play the 9th Symphony on the piano.  Longer if you want any of the notes to be correct.

Oh...

When I went to MoMA earlier, I spent most of my time there in the following two exhibits:

Andy Warhol: Moving Pictures (http://moma.org/visit/calendar/exhibitions/1099)

On Line: Drawing Through the Twentieth Century (http://moma.org/visit/calendar/exhibitions/971)

I actually spent a bit more time in the Warhol exhibit than I expected. MoMA really did a beautiful job of setting up the gallery as a viewing space, including a room set up as a movie theatre (minus the popcorn). It was the perfect setting just to sit, watch, absorb and think - or not think - for a while.

He's not going to firefighter school tomorrow...

Yes, Mother!

LOL, DR TCB!  He made the decision all on his own and we found out when we noticed him texting on his phone.  He was communicating with his instructors, who made it very clear when the quarter began that they did NOT want students in class if they're sick.

Yes, of course, Ginny.

1.  It sank.
2.  They're all dead.
3.  She's actually alive.
4.  He's crazier than you even think he is.
5.  Ma and Pa Kettle are actually cousins.

You may thank me later.

I agree TCB.

I'm pretty sure what one is.  I can guess at two and five is a joke.

Thank you, I am glad that I am not the only one who took a detour.  Although, I was pretty sure that #5 was about Jeff's family.

If anyone is thinking of moving to the Seattle area , there is a cute little home for sale in Bellevue, just across the lake from Seattle.  It belongs to former Seattle SuperSonic, Detlef Schrempf.

I wish I could see the inside.  The location looks very nice.  It seems to me for the size of the home & the location it is priced low.  Of course in today's market that doesn't mean it will sell.

My friend Patsy sends me every virus hoax that she receives.  And each ttime I explain that it is a hoax, and send her the web address for snopes.com.

Last week she sent me one that said that snopes.com confirms this rumor.  Except when I went to snopes.com, it said the rumor was Untrue!

Craig had a beach towel he keeps in his car for Yogi which needed washing.  I had two white towels I had used to dry my clean car with, which I keep in my car & Keith had one white Y (as in YMCA) towel he accidentally brought home with him.  I washed them all together and now have three very pink towels plus the original dog towel.

I hope I save Craig from ever ruining anything good now that he knows not to mix the towel with unlike colors. ;D

Have you seen this show performed, George?

No, but I got the cast recording on cassette years ago through Interlibrary Loan and made a copy of it...I eventually made a CD of that.  I should still have it...if it's still in my garage.

I read that as "if it's still in my garbage"

Almost...but not quite. ;) I actually was able to find the CD-R that I made and I'll listen to it at work tomorrow.  Hopefully, it's still good.  I had a video-CD that had a paper label on it that isn't viewable anymore.  Only the first couple of scenes were still playable.  It starts to pixelate about 15 minutes into it, but then it freezes. :P

So earlier tonight, my friend Margo's daughter called me, asking if I could come over because her mom broke her toe! :o I get over there and medics had been there and put a very simple splint and bandage on the big toe of her right foot, but it was still bleeding a bit.  I drove her to Group Health's emergency care and after about 20 minutes of waiting, they finally took her in, x-rayed her and found that she has a compound fracture behind the nail bed.  They put on a half-splint and totally bandaged it up.  She has to see someone again within the next couple of days.
