Well, you've read the notes, the notes were restful, and now it is time for you to post until the restful cows come home.

Good morning, all! I've been trying to catch up for an hour, during which I made two phone calls to Time Warner about my internet service being down, rebooted, uplugged and plugged in everything connected to this computer, and now Asha, the very pleasant young lady at Time Warner on my second call - the first one, Samantha, was also very charming - has me reconnected to the worldwide web. This all began last night around 9 pm when everything disconnected. On my way to Toyland this morning, I'll buy a new power strip and replace this older one I've got. Perhaps that will help.

Last night I watched two Bob Hope movies, Monsieur Beaucaire and The Road to Singapore, and I preferred the first; the Panama and Frank screenplay is really funny, smart and sassy; there are too few literate inteligent and hysterically funny films written today. The Road to Singapore is the earliest of the Road pictures and I found much of it a chore. Still I liked the songs and I had frgotten how drop-dead gorgeous Dorothy Lamour was.

After that, another night of strange dreams. When I woke, I would swear I was in a production of "Sail Away" with Elaine Stritch. Before that it was something about baking Christmas cookies, the recipe, not enough cinnamon, etc. It was nightmare.

So, today I am off to Toyland to work with my colleague Curtis, who is currently busy dring the week with several personal projects. When I return I would like to finish up my 2010 taxes for Thursday's meeting with my accountant.

BK,

I managed to avoid FANBOYS, but I do recall liking THE SCORE when it was first released.

No classic, but it was entertaining.

I've got the DVD, so maybe I'll take another look.  Perhaps my opinion will change.

Very, very disturbed to find an anti-Semitic site has linked to my Farmer article, after some rabid anti-Semite (evidently a famous one, from what I've been able to research) posted a long diatribe which repeated the Scientology disinformation.  It's interesting in a sort of sickening way to see these sickos parrot the Scientologists about "mind control," though they do so through the filter of anti-Semitism.

Nice to see the wonderful Beethoven 4-6 BD I reviewed yesterday (which includes absolutely wonderful docmentaries on each symphony as well) saw its Amazon sales ranking rise from around 30K to 3K.  That's at least 3 or 4 people buying it.  ;)

I was very restless last night and could not find a movie to watch. I started watching an old 1940s Monogram musical called HOT RYTHYM, but couldn't get into it...then tried an episode of MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATRE (Super Agent Super Dragon), but it just didn't hold me..tried the new Bollywood comedy NO PROBLEM, but it was a dud (watched all the musical numbers then shut if off)...

Finally settled with an old standby, the Barbara Stanwyck film NO MAN OF HEW OWN (1950). That movie always keeps me glued to the TV set and has since I first saw it when I was about 8 years old.

BK, as I think I may have mentioned in the past, Linda Purl will be appearing in Salem in a few months. Is any of what you are assisting her with going to be used when she is up my way? If so then I want to be sure to attend.

Please to find out for me.

Thanks for the mention in the notes, BK!

It's so much fun actually seeing (or hearing, since a lot's over the phone) BK's brilliant wheels turning as he really totally gets his "character" (in this case, a real person) and also balances the real person and his image with the needs of the audience.   I hope the bouncing has triggered BK's thought process in a good way, and not getting in the way.  This has been so much fun!

Been looking at more of Mr. Harrison's recent performances.  Boy, if Skip and I ever got a West Coast major LAST STARFIGHTER production set up, wouldn't he be a great Centauri (the Robert Preston role, not the role BK played in our NYMF readings).

Dinner Party Vibes for DR JMK and BETSY.

How did Betsy's show go last weekend?

It still makes me laugh when I think of her line:  "No Jewish family ever saw a UFO on the way home from Temple."

I've been up since ten, but jumped right into the lyric redo.  I finished it and have sent it off.  I think it came out really well and FJL was very helpful in not only coming up with some good lines, but in finally getting my head into the right place to do this.  It's really easy to come up with funny ways to say the lines, but what's not easy is making them rhyme and having them fit the music.  But several of FJL's ideas showed me how I could rearrange things and make them work, which is what I did for the first two hours of the morning.

Last night we treated ourselves to a delicious dinner at Blue Greek on Granite.  We all enjoyed our meal & the owner spent time talking to Craig about Greece once she learned he had traveled there.  She is not Greek but lived in Majorca & in Greece, or just traveled throughout Greece-not sure which.  She adores Sherlock & was sorry he wasn't with us.  Of course we didn't take him since the outdoor patio isn't open in the winter.

It had been over a month since we have dined out & prior to that even longer.  This was a real treat.  I brought home enough food for my dinner tonight.

Hmmm we're going to get 4-7 inches of snow between now and Tuesday morning.   I'm glad I spent a couple hours at the office cleaning my desk off and organizing after a chaotic week.   I also brought home a brief case full of work. Since I have to do a lot of writing this week, I can work at home just as easily as I can work at the office.  Plus the writing I do this week can all be electronically filed.  That extends the deadline to midnight and means no running down stairs and blocks down the road

I will use most of my Federal Refund to pay that bill.

You are NOT taxed more on the basis of race, sex, or age - BUT you are taxed MORE if you are single.  It is the single discrimination that drives me up the wall.

I am curious.  Those of you that have a state income tax; do you also have a sales tax?

I wrote half the contextual commentary then went out for a sandwich and onion rings.  I came back to find the power had gone off momentarily.  It's not raining anymore so why that happened is anyone's guess.  It shut the computer down (thank goodness everything was "saved") and I had to reset two clocks.  It apparently happened about ten minutes before I got back.

The fact that you washed your car is probalby the main reason it is raining.

My taxes are finished. I have e-filed my Federal tax forms and I have printed out the State forms and the envelope and assembled the "package". I will mail the forms tomorrow.

Yes, TCB, in New York we have both state taxes and a sales tax.

Why would you leave the house with your computer on?

I, too, completed my taxes last night.  My Federal Return has been accepted.  It always takes the State Return a couple of days longer.  Of course I OWE the State $257.....crazy!

I thought most states have both.  I would prefer no income tax to our no sales tax.

We do not have a state income tax in Washington.  Instead, we have a retail sales tax that varies by city or county.  It ranges from 7.7% to 9.5%

Food and prescription drugs are exempt.

The rabbit actually died during the middle of Christmas dinner. Let out a big shriek and died. But that was a long time ago. Poor rabbit.

Jane, why can't Keith or Craig go with you?

Keith absolutely does not want to go with me & I doubt Craig does.  Even if he did I doubt enough to be willing to leave Yogi in the car outside the movie theater.

Can't Yogi stay home with Keith and Sherlock?

No.  We don't trust him.  Last night he stayed in Craig's car while we went for dinner.

Keith or Yogi?

;)

Once Craig & Yogi are in their own place Craig will begin to leave Yogi again with Kitty to keep him company.

I have been updating my extremely long list of books I want to read.  I discovered I have three books by David Mitchell on the list.  Has anyone read his books?  I'm wondering which to begin with.  My choices are:
Black Swan Green
The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet
Cloud Atlas

No surprises at the SAG Awards.

Rather boring.

The only good moments were Ernie Borgnine's and Betty White's acceptance speeches.

Jennifer I'm glad you are feeling better.  Didn't you get an indoor something for exercising?  If it is too cold outside are there indoor malls large enough for walking?

"An indoor something"?  I have my old exercise bike and half broken mini trampoline and my hoopnotica.

Yes there are malls large enough for walking. But I tend only walk in the malls when I am already at the mall.

I watched the red carpet and the SAG awards. Not sure if this happened in the US. But here the voices were off for the first 5 minutes (their mouthes would move and the voice would come on a second later). That is so annoying.

A lot of women seemed to dress down a bit from the Golden Globes. But there were some nice dresses!

Didn't watch the show, but the results were predictable. Almost too predictable, though I was glad for Melissa Leo. I really want to see Winter's Bone. Is it out on DVD yet?

I watched an excellent motion picture on Blu and Ray but am not quite up to watching another, although I did watch the first ten minutes of another, which I'll finish tomorrow night.

Today, I went to see a local production of a play called "Sea Marks."  I'd never heard of it.  My friend Thomas played Colm (pronounced "column" in their Irish/British accents).  There are only two people in the show, so Thomas is on stage almost every moment.  It's a bittersweet story of a man and a woman who write letters to each other and eventually fall in love.  She's in publishing and when he visits her in person for the first time, she has some of his letters published as a book of sonnets, but he doesn't like the business side of everything and really just wants to go back to being a fisherman...so he does.  It was touching and funny and sweet.

So, today we hung out in SF and hit some pastry places and had a really great time.  We had dinner at a FANTASTIC German restaurant (http://www.suppenkuche.com/) and finished up our night with a lovely plated dessert HERE (http://www.candybarsf.com/)  What an awesome day!

And the word of the day is: DISCURSION!

And The Song Of The Day Is :  WAND'RIN' STAR

That's funny...I've been up in Blue Ridge at my dad's. I brought tons of movies and one we watched was Paint Your Wagon. He loves this song and remembered the lyrics. (Terribly dark video on his TV...a lot of times it was so dark you couldn't see what was going on!)

We also watched the Making of...The Music Man doc I did years ago. I had given him a copy but he had never watched it. I enjoyed seeing it again but it made me wish that I could do more things like that and not the #$%^ I'm working on right now.

I, too, completed my taxes last night.  My Federal Return has been accepted.  It always takes the State Return a couple of days longer.  Of course I OWE the State $257.....crazy!

I will use most of my Federal Refund to pay that bill.

You are NOT taxed more on the basis of race, sex, or age - BUT you are taxed MORE if you are single.  It is the single discrimination that drives me up the wall.

If it's any comfort, marriage can be very taxing, too.
