Title: A PIECE OF MAHLER'S
Post by: bk on February 25, 2011, 12:07:29 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were like a piece of Mahler's, dense and heavy, and now it is time for you to post until the dense and heavy cows come home - they're currently listening to a piece of MOOler's.

Good morning, all! The alarm went off at 6:30, and I decided to sleep late. Around 7 am, the neighbor above me arrived home, so I decided it was time to get out of bed.  I remember nothing of my dreams last night.

Today is a day at the NYPL: I've got work on both WHERE'S CHARLEY? and Victor Herbert, so when I get to the Theatre Collection, I'll pull catalogue numbers for the photo files for CHARLEY? and get to work on the historic newspapers site looking for birth and death dates of several people.

TOD: A DVD from Indiana, several Netflix items,
CD: Jacques Brel, Jacques Offenbach, Herbert Cello & Piano, Guy Haines, Liz Callaway
VCR: smut

I've been going through the posts of the person on the That's All Chat board, the disagreement with whom started the problems I've been facing this week.

He says things to me like telling me I "don't listen" but like some rare people, he seems to assume that when people don't OBEY everything he says in his unsolicited advice (and frankly I did follow about 90-95% of what he'd said), they're simply not listening.   Why do some rare people think just because they give advice, people must follow their advice or they're not listening?

This guy is about eight years younger than me, and he wasn't the owner of that chat board, so I don't understand his position.

I had a very long and detailed and pointless dream last night in which my mom, my sister and nephew and I went up to NYC to see a show.  We took a bus which for some reason let us off way down in the Village, which resembled San Francisco with very hilly streets and sidewalks.  As I was faced with the task of herding my family uptown, I realized that my mom and sister had disappeared into a Spanish clothing boutique and that my nephew was picking fights with street people.  Then I looked at my watch and saw that we were already an hour late for the show. (I can't remember what the show was other than it had something to do with a trumpet player.)  I woke up feeling very frustrated.

DVD -- A Woman, a Gun and a Noodle Shop, maybe one of the Alice Faye or Betty Grable movies that Costco has for $5 like "The Dolly Sisters."

MP3: "Ceremony" by Leslie Marman Silko

Who was that? My only memory of that production is the Rhoda Morgenstern accent of Pat Frost: totally wrong for the show.

Some guy from Dayton whose name I've blocked from my memory.  He and I did not get along, which provided a great subtext for our characters.

Here is Charlie Sheen's reaction to the announcement that his show has been canceled for the rest of the season:

"What does this say about Haim Levine [Chuck Lorre] after he tried to use his words to judge and attempt to degrade me. I gracefully ignored this folly for 177 shows ... I fire back once and this contaminated little maggot can't handle my power and can't handle the truth. I wish him nothing but pain in his silly travels especially if they wind up in my octagon. Clearly I have defeated this earthworm with my words -- imagine what I would have done with my fire breathing fists. I urge all my beautiful and loyal fans who embraced this show for almost a decade to walk with me side-by-side as we march up the steps of justice to right this unconscionable wrong.

So...

I called Time-Warner the other night when I get home because I noticed that our cable and internet are not working...

"We have no current reports of a service outage in your area right now. If this not an emergency, please call back in the morning during regular business hours."

So... I call back in the morning...

"We still have no reports of a service outage in your area, however, it does appear that an amp may have blown. I will send a service ticket into the local office to investigate."

So... I call back again this morning...

"We still have no other reports of a service outage in your area... However, I did just notice that there are a number of modems that are currently off-line. I will send a truck out to investigate this afternoon."

So... It appears that all the repair work that ConEd did last week messed up Time-Warner's system. Of course, now that they now that, Time-Warner can't really do anything to repair the problem until the coordinate with ConEd - which, of course, is something only they can request, not I.

So... I've been getting a lot of laundry, cleaning and organizing done. I've continued my visits to The City Bakery for the Hot Chocolate Festival, and I've actually been getting to bed at a semi-decent hour since I haven't been able to watch any TV nor surf the web on my computer at home.

Otherwise... I'm OK.  -And you? ;)

I'm OK.  -And you? ;)

The day I broke the internet I got a lot of things done.

Back from the doctor. Everything is fine. Thanks for all the vibes. I see him in one month for a final follow-up. There is some normal post-operative swelling but nothing else. My recovery is moving along and he's happy with everything that is NOT happening. I feel fine and look forward to a final appointment to end it all.

I do have to see my primary care doctor to fill him in on what happened but that will be quick and painless as well.

Overpriced because they are junking umbrellas that fall apart quickly?

Okay, I have a conundrum - a week from Saturday LACC is doing a benefit staged reading of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman, with kind of a Latino bent - starring Tony Plana (from Ugly Betty), Elizabeth Pena, Esai Morales.  The director just called me and asked if I could come in and do a role - they were originally trying to have all Latinos but have had no luck finding anyone for this particular role - it's the neighbor Charlie - does anyone know this play well enough to know if it's something I should think about?  He's bringing a copy over for me this afternoon - it wouldn't involve more than a couple of evening rehearsals and it's just two performances next weekend, which I could definitely do - I just am always very hinky about acting stuff these days.

Yes, Jane, the street umbrellas are usually quite junky and often fall apart after 1 use and sometimes they break during the rainstorm.

I have a hood on my coat but it was POURING rain at a couple of points so a bumbershoot would have been nice.

I purchased one in NY and got lucky it lasted longer than a few uses, and it was on sale for only $4.00.  I think the guy wanted to sell his last umbrella and get out of the rain.

Did you wear a cap?  I hate the rain on my glasses.  I either keep a hat on a loop on my purse or loop the back Velcro strap through my pants loop in case I need it.

"Remember these are my people ... not yours...we will continue on together..."

Talk about throwing fuel on a fire...

Again, I feel terrible for his parents.  Prior to this his father was vocal about their concerns.

I find it interesting that he used Chuck Lorre's real name. Obviously Jewish. I wonder if he was making a commen on his religion as a reason why the show was finished for th rest of the season.

Also Charlie Sheen suffers from a disease that can be put in remission but never cured. I know he has had a lot of chances. But perhaps they should look at it that way.

Not only is Sheen being punished but the rest of the cast and the behind the scenes people too. In the past major characters have been written out for a short time to recover from contract disputes and recovery. Carroll O'Connor and Matthew Perry come to mind. They could write out Sheen by having him go to Betty Ford or some place like that

i was one of the few people who saw The Goodbye Girl (Broadway Version) I know they had a lot of problems

1) They had problems with the opening. The Bernadette Peters character was not likeable and the had to make her sympathetic. I don't think they ever solved this.

2) The book was not the funny. Really a misfire for Simon. Except for one scene where the audience was laughing do hard it was hard to hear the dialogue, It was the exercise class and the instuctor was doing a wicked imitation of Richard Simmons.

4) Martin Shorrt was far better that Bernadette Peters which I understand cause friction if you believe what was said in

The show was revamped for London They dump the lyrics by David Zippel as if that ws the prohlem

I'm impressed you can stay on a flutterboard without using your arms.

True he suffers from a very sad disease.  The problem is he seems to get extremely mean as a result and I imagine coping with him makes it difficult for his bosses to stay compassionate when they are paying him an obscene about of money to show up and do his job.

I like the idea of having him go to Betty Ford, especially if he really did it.  We stopped watching a long time ago as the plots seem to be the same.  Do you really think the show can be done well without his character?

Oh, by the way, I am sure the guy is guilty. Of whatever.

That won't get you off a jury...it's when you say you have a belief against judging other people and couldn't possibly pass judgment against the defendant that you are struck

I'm not trying to get out of jury duty. I am just saying the guy is guilty. I'm sure of it.

"Remember these are my people ... not yours...we will continue on together..."

Talk about throwing fuel on a fire...

 :(

Why can't I be a wealthy bitch instead of a poor one?

From you lips...

;)

I guess I wasn't the only one who picked up on this. The Anti-Defamation picked up on this too.

http://www.imdb.com/news/ni8046698/

DR Druxy picked up on it when he first commented.  Another example Sheen is off the was since he was born Carlos Irwin Estévez.  He definitely needs help.

Chuck Lorre's birth name is Charles Michael Levine, not Haim, or even Chaim (which was quoted in THIS (http://comcast.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b227859_charlie_sheen_rips_two_half_men_boss_in.html) article that I read).

Thank you.  I had meant to double check that.

Dr Jennifer, it sounds like your shoulder hurts in the same way mine does, or at least similar.  My chiro told me that it's ok to use my arm until it feels better but not to do too much raising it over my head with any twisting motion or to put a purse or bag strap on that side.   It still hurts when I raist it, but it's better.   Aleve helps too. I haven't taken any today just to see how I was really doing.

My shoes are water repellent so my feet are dry and my coat is also water repellent so the top of me is dry but my pants are wet from the knees down. My umbrella broke on the way to the doctor and I wasn't going to buy another overpriced street umbrella for $5.

Overpriced because they are junking umbrellas that fall apart quickly?

Last time I was in NYC, I got caught in a downpour and grabbed a cheap umbrella off those racks that appear out of nowhere in front of every store the minute the first drop of rain falls. I used it for several years.

Only if you are allowed to play the same role when it is transferred to Broadway!

I just heard a pounding at my door.  I went to the window and there was a police officer looking in.   He asked if I'd seen any kids.  well, no, I've just been sitting here watching tv and not paying much attention to what's going on outside.  Anyway, turns out some kids set off a dry ice bomb (don't even know what that is) around the corner and the tracks ended in the street in front of my house where it looked like they got in a car and took off.  Sheesh, a dry ice bomb, people fleeing on foot then taking off in a car, then the police driving up and I didn't hear any of it.

Actually I wasn't sure what it was when I first heard the pounding.  I'll have to check my doorbell and see if it still works.  I can see out the window of the livingroom to the door and the officer had his flashlight on his face so I could see him.  It was clear to me right away that it was a police officer, but I did look to see his car in the street before I answered the door.  I was a bit cautious, I had no idea what he was going to ask me about.

Had a lovely dinner tonight with friends and a new friend I know I won't see too often: 2002 Dom Perignon. There was a wonderful array of wines, a Chablis, a Burgundy, a Bordeaux and a Beaujolais. I had a cup of wild mushroom soup, which was the hit of the evening, followed by a pork chop stuffed with goat cheese, cranberries and pecans. My favorite of the desserts was a lemon blueberry tart.

The restaurant was owned by friends who used to work at other restaurants we all frequented. And it was just one of those fun evenings where everybody enjoyed each others company, and the wine and the food and the wine. Did I mention the wine?

I would do it. It's only two days and it has at least two well-regarded actors in Pena and Morales. I don't know TV people, but "Ugly Betty" was a hit. Good company.
