Title: A CLEAVER IN THE FACE
Post by: bk on March 26, 2011, 12:11:25 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were like a cleaver in the face, only with more information, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently trying to avoid a cleaver in the face.

Last night, I ushered (actually, I sold merchandise) for the tour of Menopause! The Musical! that was at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts.  One of the women, Megan Cavanagh, played Marla Hooch in "A League of Their Own" and she was wonderful!  All four of the actresses were quite good singers, too.  The final audience count was 691 and my friend Margo who was taking tickets said that she counted only about 50 men...out of 691 people.  it was quite a good production and the audience loved it!

The WB site is having it's 5 for $50 sale.....so this is the time to get your made to order DVD's.  The price doesn't change until you have FIVE dvd's in your shopping cart....and you can get FREE regular shipping, but they do charge your state's sales tax, if any.

I just hated seeing all of the titles I paid $19.98 for go by on the list.

In short...

Yesterday was an amazing day.

I took the Metra into work with my friend, David, and then explored the French Market for a bit. I didn't buy or sample anything - most of the vendors were still closed at 8:30 in the morning. However, I did find and was very tempted by Vanille Patisserie, the bakery DR Jane mentioned the other day.

And then I walked across Lake St. and up Clark St. to XOCO (http://www.rickbayless.com/restaurants/xoco.html) - a.k.a. Chef Rick Bayless' love-letter to Mexican street food - for breakfast. ¡Muy delicioso!

I had the Open-Face Breakfast Torta (Black Beans, Salsa Roja, Salsa Verde, Soft-Boiled Egg, Cheese), a Churro (fried to order!) and a cup of Champurrado. A truly perfrect breakfast for a cold Spring morning.

And then I ended up back at the Art Institute of Chicago. And so did Monkey. :)

I had tweeted wondering if the AIC offered some sort of 2-Days-In-A-Row Discount Admission. Well, they don't, but they did respond that they thought that was a good idea. And their social media director also offered to meet me at the entrance and walk me in for free if I wanted to go back. And since I did, I did. -As did Monkey. And when I met Jocelin at the entrance, she presented me with a small gold crown for Monkey in honor of their exhibition of Renaissance Kings and Queens. :)

...And after five more hours in the AIC exploring almost of the galleries I did not make it to yesterday... :)

After all of that gallery trekking, David and I went to Cumin (http://www.cumin-chicago.com/) in Wicker Park for some amazing Nepalese food, and then we went to hear one of my friends in a small concert of some "New Music" presented by the Anaphora Ensemble (http://www.anaphoraensemble.com/index.html). It was quite a fun evening of music, the highlight of which was a song cycle based on texts of "found texts" - misdirected voicemail messages, spam emails and a classic story from "This American Life" - for Piano, Viola, Cello and Soprano.

Good morning, all! It's quite chilly in my apartment this morning. The weather.com page tels me it's 27 degrees F, but I swear it's colder than that.

At 11, I'm meeting Ron Raines' copyist to pick up a score to be proofed, and the rest of my day has a trip to the market and post office, tallying up the number of bars in Act Three of EILEEN, and assembling everything I photocopied yesterday.

I miss WHERE'S CHARLEY?

Hi all!

I have some Turner news that I think you are going to like.

Title: Re: A CLEAVER IN THE FACE
Post by: Danise on March 26, 2011, 08:31:37 AM
When last we left our scum bag contractor, he filed for bankruptcy.

I know that most people thought that would be the end of it for me.   To be quite honest, I had my doubts as well but after reading the law, I thought I might have a chance because of what it said about not being able to discharge any debts you made by fraud.

I never expected what really happen
Title: Re: A CLEAVER IN THE FACE
Post by: Danise on March 26, 2011, 08:35:45 AM
I had sent the email to the Trustee but had not heard anything back.  It's been about 3 weeks and since I had also read that Bankruptcy cases move fairly fast, I thought I should give her a call.

She answered the phone right away and asked if I had the case number, which I gave her.

She then asked if I as going to attend the debtor meeting that was being held the next day.  I told her I didn't know anything about it and how would I have been notified?  She said I should have gotten something by mail because it is a requirement that all creditors have a chance to meet with the debtor and to dispute his/her claim.

I received nothing.
Title: Re: A CLEAVER IN THE FACE
Post by: Danise on March 26, 2011, 08:40:06 AM
She then asked my name again and I could hear her going though the file.  She told me I wasn't listed and what type of debt did Turner owe me.  I said it's a judgement from a lawsuit.

Imagine her/my suprise when she looked again and told me there were NO judgements listed!  Just his credit cards and his mortgages!  I quickly assured her that there were many judgements against Mr. T if she would only go to the court web site and look.

She then said that the judge would have to be informed right away.
Title: Re: A CLEAVER IN THE FACE
Post by: Danise on March 26, 2011, 08:43:41 AM
I left my phone number so she could get in touch with me but when I got home from work last night there was an email telling me that Mr. T's bankruptcy case has been.........are you ready for it?...........

DISMISSED!!!!!!!

He committed fraud on the court by not listing EVERY creditor!

What an idiot!
Title: Re: A CLEAVER IN THE FACE
Post by: Danise on March 26, 2011, 08:48:54 AM
But it just goes to prove that you shouldn't give up no matter how bad something looks.

What I thought was going to be an uphill battle with a very good chance of loosing, turned out to be a victory not only for myself but for everyone who has a judgment against him!  I never in a million years expected that.

I know he can try again after a few months but I don't think he's going to get it then either.  I still think I will have a good case to have it dropped (at least in my case) yet again.  And I have only to point to this incident to show that the man commits fraud like others change their socks.
Title: Re: A CLEAVER IN THE FACE
Post by: Danise on March 26, 2011, 08:56:22 AM
I guess he was going for the "poor contractor caught up in the bad economy" angle and didn't want the judge to know that he scammed so many people by listing his judgments.

Ha!

Anyway, I am quite pleased.   Now I have to wait for the fall out of everyone ahead of me in line and see where I stand when the dust clears.

I was talking to a friend and she said if that man had any brains in his head, he would beg, borrow or steal just to get me paid off so I would leave him alone.    :D

DR Jane, you will probably find this funny.  When I went to the library today with my photocopied book requests I told the lady at the front desk what had happened on Monday. She said that she has told the lady MANY times that people have complained about their slips being lost. So it isn't only me!

She also said I could contact the director of the library. But I'm unsure if she meant to 1) comment on what the lady said to me or  2) what i think is more likely - to comment about how many slips are getting lost.

The kids had an elementary school principle like that.  Every time I complained about something he innocently told me I was the only person having the problem & acted if it was me and not a real problem.  Eventually I found out he was telling every other parent that complained about the same things that they were the only ones to complain. ::)  This is the same guy who didn't call me after Bryan was jumped by a group of boys.

I think you should contact the director of the library regarding the large number of lost slips.

Kevin, I haven't seen Book of Mormon yet. I haven't seen much, partially because of the appendix but also it's getting more and more expensive. I see much of my theatre through TDF and in the past many of the Broadway shows would be up at least for previews. That's not the case this year. I can print out some discounts from Playbill and other sites but I can't afford many of the discounts.

There is still quite a bit of snow because of all the piles the snow trucks left (they put 10 feet piles in many places). But the roads were clear of snow. Yippee.

It is still very cold out. But I'm happy just to put on a pair of shoes instead of boots.

How much time did Kitty get?  Is there parole when she gets out?

Craig keeps her in for 15 minutes while I give her 20 since I'm not in the bedroom to hear if she barfs up her dinner.  It really is strange she does this with canned food.  Craig thinks she eats it too fast.

LOL, yes parole until tomorrow night.

Having had a cat with serious food problems it does concern me some.  She is fine though & it only happens occasionally.  It helps not to change the flavor of the food two often either.  When we buy her canned food Craig says no more than two flavors instead of a wide assortment.

This is reminding me, DR Laura how is Joshie?

Thank you all for the good thoughts.   There is a part of me that feels bad that I'm taking joy in some else's troubles.  I know he's a bad guy but still it isn't right.  I'm so glad his children are all grown up.   It would be harder if they were not.

I'm a bit worried about Sheena and Toby.  Poor Toby is looking so beat up but I think it's because they play so rough.  They seem to love one another.

I gave them a bath today and Toby kept licking Sheena to try to help her dry off.  They lay together, clear each others ears, play but sometimes they do have a knock down drag out and I break that up at once.  I don't know what happens when I'm not home.

I don't know what to think.

Yup, as long as they don't do it consistently and don't lose weight it is more annoying than anything. :)

I went in and picked up Kitty's food dish.  Since she had a good amount of her dinner stuck to the sides of the dish I was going to stir it and put it back down.  Instead I dropped it and it shattered all over.  I am very sad now as this wasn't just any food dish, it was very special.  It was a pretty little ceramic dish with cute kittens on the inside.  This was Bogie, Bacall, Bosco & Knudson's water dish.  It gave me great pleasure to use it again.  I know it is silly to be sad about the loss of a dish but is was part of them & I don't have anything else of theirs that was special.

She is a very small cat & doesn't eat much to begin with.  I didn't give her more to make up for what she left.  She also has dry food, which isn't a problem, on the floor.

Hmm, licking her all over?  That is odd.  I know licking can be a sign of dominance, or is it the other way around-will have to look it up.  Are you sure you got all the soap out?  Maybe Toby likes the taste ;)

Ahh I'm so sorry about that Jane.  I know how it feels.  When I was moving Mom's china into the house I set the box down to hard and heard something shatter.  It was a saucer.  I remember thinking that Mom was going to be very angry that I broke it.  Then I remembered she was gone.

It's flea soap so I don't think it would taste good.  Both are laying on the couch right now.  I guess it's just a dog thing.

Danise licking is a sign of a submissive dog.  Usually it is under the chin.  Keith said the same thing, maybe she tastes good. ;D  If you are using flea soap I hope you are getting it all off.  As long as they are happy and not fighting I wouldn't worry.

I'm watching UNCONDITIONAL LOVE, with Kathy Bates who's really wonderful and Rupert Everett. It's a comedy-murder mystery sorta, and I think it's quite charming and off-kiltre. The cast is interesting, with Julie Andrews playing herself, Lyn Redgrave as the evil sister of the late singing star played by Jonathan Pryce whose funeral is a great moment. DR Jose's close personal friend Jack Noseworthy plays the son of Kathy Bates and Dan Ackroyd. There's a lovely scene for Bates and Everett in a British pub, underscored by "Can't Help Falling In Love with You," a song  written by my late friend George David Weiss.

Saturday afternoon greetings!  We are back after a most entertaining day.  First we went to the antique appraisal that was a fundraiser for the Middletown Historical Society.  The guy was quite informative, but needed to brush up on his Middletown history a bit.  We left there right after the lunch break to head to Oxford for the matinee performance of

Grand Night 2011:  The Great American Songbook (http://www.grandnight.info/grand_Night/Welcome.html)

Throughout the show, I kept envisioning "Grand Night 2012:  The Orchestrations of Alumnus Larry Moore."

*I posted a bunch of pics on Twitter and Facebook.  You should be able to view most of them here: http://twitter.com/JoseSMonkey

I got a whole bunch of energy efficient bulbs from my sister, but I still have a lot of incandescent bulbs.  For the lights that I keep on for long periods of time, I use the energy efficient bulbs, and the rest, the incandescent.  Recently though, I've been replacing everything that burns out with the incandescent until they're all used up.  I might as well use them and get rid of them sooner rather than later.

I really like this movie! :D

OH!

The best news of the day: My youngest brother, Jay, proposed to his girlfriend, Kristy, a couple of hours ago. She said YES!

Congrats to your brother and his new fiancee!
