DR JOSE, I watched the segment you mentioned on EAT ST.
The people they interviewed the most were 1) young bearded guy (think Casey American Idol pre-makeover) and 2)a guy with short light brown hair who maybe was Austrian.
There were a couple of other people who got to say a few words here and there. I believe you are in one scene where you are in line.
That segment made me want to eat from that truck. I have never tried food like that before.
~~~~~MAYORAL AUDITION VIBES TO MY BIRTHDAY TWIN, DR JRAND~~~~~
I love SUNDAY IN NEW YORK....especially the game in the taxi, which sort of reminds me of the word game in YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU...
And the last word is Sex.....everybody got Sex? And now I'll read Mrs. Kirby's answers.
Sex - Wall Street....
Sex....Wall Street....Miriam whatever do you mean?
Well I don't know....it's just that you're always taking about Wall Street even.....
I don't like this game.
Ola!
Has anybody seen or read the play version of SUNDAY IN NEW YORK?
Does all the action take place on one set (i.e. the apartment), or are there other settings?
And the word of the day is: PANEGYRIC!
I have this memory that there are several sets. Sondra Lee played several roles, including that of a Chinese waitress in a restaurant.
DR MBarnum - The 8th Annual Persian Day Parade (http://www.nypp.org/dynamic.asp?fmt=f&id=home) is taking place in NYC today. -Is there any sort of Persian Day/Persian New Year (Nowruz) taking place in your neck of the woods?
BK, I think I am going to particularly enjoy this newest book of yours! Of course I still need to read the last two Hofstetter books first, probably.
We have very few Persians in Salem, except of the cat variety, so far as I know...at least I have only met one person from Iran since I've lived here. There is a larger community of them up towards where JMK lives, however. In fact ther is a nice little store just blocks from JMK's house which is run by a gentleman who moved to the US from Iran back in the early 1970s. I bought some CDs and some desserts from him, while my very bigoted brother-in-law refused to set foot in the shop.
And those are the three "Murder at ..." books on the Kritzerland site? Just checking to be sure.
Just remember DR Elmore, I am going to be making your nightmares a reality next April.
DR George, a movie that I believe you were serching for a few years back, RING OF FIRE (1961) is airing in TCM soon, for your FYI.
I remember liking this movie a lot (and of course, it was filmed in Oregon). I have already set my DVR!
RE: DR Jane's probs at the hotel. Things happen. But when you check and re-check and they tell you things are fine and then you go to check out and they give you a warm ice pack ... well they should be happy that DR Jane was there instead of me. Because i would have demanded that they get me a cold ice pack immediately
I remember when they made this one. I was still living in Seattle and was very taken by Andrew Stone's work and how he shot everything on location.
I love THE LAST VOYAGE.
I'm sure RING OF FIRE will wind up in Warner Archive one of these days.
Wonderful new review on amazon for the last book:
5.0 out of 5 stars Mel, Woody and Bruce, April 10, 2011
By Joe Cascone - See all my reviews
This review is from: "There's Mel, There's Woody, and There's You": My Life in the Slow Lane (Paperback)
For anyone who has, had or is considering a career in show-biz, this book should be required reading. Funny, tough, moving and always emotional, it chronicles the reality of the beast that is a life in the arts. Bruce Kimmel has seen it all and done it all, and now tells it all. "There's Mel, There's Woody and There's You" is a wonderful expose of a type of show-biz that no longer exists, as much as those of us who work in the industry wish it did. Much delightful insight is shared with Bruce's interaction with some legends of the golden ages of Hollywood and Broadway as he managed to (almost) always stay employed in some aspect of show business, with nary a dull moment in between gigs. Hilarious and heart-wrenching behind-the-scenes descriptions of many of his projects are shared as his passion for his art forms are met with a roller-coaster of receptions from studio heads, audiences and his peers. Nowhere is this more evident than with his cult film "The First Nudie Musical." And we always wind up sharing his joy and frustration through the pages as he parlays the nice successes and accolades he has received, only to turn on a dime and be dashed by another near-miss via the idiocy of some incapable studio boss, then turn again as he survives another setback and carries on. At last we are able to see what a very realistic life in "the biz" is like, something that has previously managed to escape being documented -- at least as honestly and passionately as this!
...And I'm still trying to figure out exactly what those costumes are (too). ;)
I'm not that interested in seeing it. I saw the last revival with Lupone, and I'm not that crazy about the show.
I'm just trying to figure out who the main guy they ended up interviewing is.
Nice blurb from Mr. Pogue.
I am not DR Ginny but I did see part of return to Cranford - I liked it but not as well as the original
I went biking again today. Only 35 minutes. Good thing I came back because it was just starting to rain.
There are so many people biking the past few days. Even though it's only high 50s and low 60s I think everyone is so sick of winter. You would think it was summer by the amounts of people outside.
I find it odd that none of the homes ever sell on the HGTV series GET IT SOLD. Betsy and I were joking that the show should more accurately be called MOST LIKELY NOT GET IT SOLD AFTER SPENDING LOTS OF MONEY ON STUPID STAGING IDEAS.
I went to the library today to see a theatre production for 4-10 year olds.
I cannot believe how irresponsible some parents are. There was one little boy (maybe 3) who was running around during the performance. And he kept pulling on the emergency door. I thought for sure that the alarm was going to go off. But the mother was not even looking at him.
And this is the same lady who walked in with her stroller and saw my bag on the aisle seat and said she would be taking it. Maybe I would have moved if she had been nicer. But I told her i'm claustrophobic and i intentionally got there first to get that seat.
I am going to have to get disciplined about this again and start going every morning like I used to
I am watching a 1948 Bollywood film about a God who is on earth as a man and whose wife has been abducted by a demon. Now a human monkey is trying to rescue the woman while having his tail set of fire and burning down an entire island kingdom.
A talking bear, a talking vulture, a flesh eating demoness, and a one eyed creature all make appearences in between multiple songs and some dances.
Oh, and some of the guys are rather attractive and bare chested.
Went to the rodeo today for the 2nd time. And now I can really say (Quoting Joan Crawford) Don't fu*k with me boys! This isn't the first time I've been to the rodeo!" I just don't know who I can say it to.
Just finished a 43minute, 44second phone conversation with Matthew at Apple Care and I'm now on my own repaired computer!\
Thank you, DR Jane! That's one of my favorite dresses - I wore it last Easter and it was a bit snug, but last night it was fairly loose.
Last night I went to a wine and cheese reception and had neither, but did have a nice chat with the president of AAUW Ohio:
All in all there were 29 tornadoes last night.
Thanks everyone. I'm fine, we are fine. There was a lot of damage around Iowa. It's sad. The tornado that hit Mapleton, Ia was 3/4 mile wide and 60% of the town has been either damaged or destroyed. There were two or three other towns hit as well. All in all there were 29 tornadoes last night.
DR TCB do you need hugs?
DR Jane, it's the lemonade I'm making out of the lemon handed to me last August.
Thanks to all for the Audition Vibes. I did my best - so now it's out of my hands....
I started singing my song in the wrong key - but corrected about four measures in....and finished big and RIGHT! So there was that!
Lovely picture of DR GINNY!
I'm spending my afternoon watching Tim Robbins' wonderful epic THE CRADLE WILL ROCK. I had wanted to see this when it was released and somehow never caught up with it. It's ambitious, covering a lot of American history, but the cast is quite wonderful and the filmn's design very evocative. I loved seeing Bertolt Brecht with Marc Blitzstein in Union Square before a riot, Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo with Nelson Rockefeller discussing art. I had known the story of the first night of "The Cradle Will Rock" from John Houseman's biography, but I really wasn't aware of the poticial intrigues to close down the WPA and Federal Theatre. It alll seems quite relevant today.I love that movie and love Bliztstein's score. Robbins was in the company with Patti LuPone when it was revived and that great cast recording made.
The film I keep thinking of while I'm watching it is the glorious Les enfants du paradis, which is, I'd guess, twice the length of this film, but which covers an equally turbulent period in French history from a theatrical viewpoint and runs the gamut of social strata.
Looking good Ginny!!!! :)Ditto!
Good Evening!But is it good?
Yep... It's "evening".
I loved THE CRADLE WILL ROCK! I found the whole inquisition against the Federal Theatre and Hallie Flanagan rather similar to the inquisition against the New York State Theatre Institute: all the time in the world given for those with evidence supporting its closure and as little time as possible for its defenders. It was great to see my beloved Barney Hughes, and I thought the rest of the enormous cast was quite wonderful.
Now I want to watch Les enfants du paradis again, but I can't see it tonight: MILDRED PIERCE is on.
I will say that listening to the soundtrack of "The Cradle Will Rock" is not as pleasant as watching it incorporated into the movie. -At least for me. Some of the treatments of the songs just don't sit right on my ears. Or something like that.
Here's an interesting article from today's New York Times by their film critic, Manohla Dargis, about the current state of movie-going:I enjoyed that. For all the movies I watch on DVD, such as the one I'm watching now, I find there is nothing to compare with the interaction that happens in a theater. I only get to the theater maybe five or six times a year now, but I treasure those visits, even when the movie is not what I expected.
Watching one of my favorites (and one of Elmore's least): The Pirates of Penzance. What fun, although I doubt England was ever this sunny on Feb. 29, regardless of the year.
Every time I think about The Friends of the Library I hear "He gave River City the library building, but he left all the books to her" go through my head
And men with wandering hands.
Well, the 5 and a half - or was it six and a half? - hour long MILDRED PIERCE just ended and it's truly amazing. If she isn't one of literature's stupidest characters, I don't know who is! I loved every minute of it, but her co-dependent relationship with her daughter Veda can be a trial: Mildred gets a kick out pf suffering over Veda and Veda gets a kick out of putting her mother down. Unlike the Joan Crawford version, in this one, Veda gets the last turn of the screw and it's a goodie! Those DRs waiting for the DVD are in for a treat.Can't wait to see it. Veda may get the last word in this one, but I loved seeing Ann Blyth get hers in the Joan Crawford version.
There is no one like Eve Arden. A friend of mine who had never heard of her (!?) just loved her independent nature in that movie.Well, the 5 and a half - or was it six and a half? - hour long MILDRED PIERCE just ended and it's truly amazing. If she isn't one of literature's stupidest characters, I don't know who is! There's nothing as good in this version as the scene between Crawford and Blyth on the stairs with the check. And I missed Eve Arden. Of course, that film bears as much resemblance to the novel as I do to Brad Pitt, so this one has its compensations.
I feel so much better just having put that down in words. Thanks. ;D
I truly forgot how many games there are to play, I was married for so long, I truly forgot and found myself constantly saying "I don't know what that means".
I think I'm now in a mess.
:-[
And now, it's time to shower and head to rehearsal. Today will be a full run-through and possible a cue-to-cue after that. It's going to be a long one. After rehearsal, I'm going to my sister's to help her move her refrigerator. We have to move her old one from her kitchen into the garage, and then she's getting a new one, but not today. Well, I don't actually know if she's already gotten it and we have to move both, but I'll find out. And after that, I'm off to my friend's house to feed her cats.
Have a good day, all!
Last night I went to a wine and cheese reception and had neither, but did have a nice chat with the president of AAUW Ohio:
and you looked lovely!
and quite svelte!
But there were about FIVE guys there planning on being Mayor Shinn.....not counting who may show up tomorrow night....so we shall see.
I love the show so much, I wouldn't mind playing another part (fewer lines to learn).
But as I said to my friend Jim (another Shinn candidate) as the terrible readings and bad singing droned on: "Do we really want to spend six weeks backstage with these people?"
I agree with you. But the Patti LuPone recording with the Acting Company is wonderful.I loved THE CRADLE WILL ROCK! I went to Target earlier and picked up Mad Men Season 4 for $19.99. I'll just put it with the other 3 seasons to watch eventually!
Morning all.
It's a morning of adding new posts to old.
It's the end of the world, I tell ya!
