Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of eight dead rats, and now it is time for you to post until the eight living cows come home.

Good morning.  Looks like I'm catching the crud that's going around.  One of those cough in the night kind of things.   Last night Boo jumped up on the bed and came up to cuddle with me after a coughing spell.  She hasn't done that since we got Ricky

I did sleep with the window open a crack and opened the window downstairs for the cats when I got up this morning.  I'll call today to schedule the new water heater for Friday.

Good morning, all! I slept later than I meant to, but I did. After yesterday's gray rainy day, today looks quite sunny and bright. I like that.

This is a work day; I've got Herbert notes from the NYPL to be transferred to my files, spoken dialogue to locate for the two EILEEN finales, and a seach for several types of mountain songs. I still have the books I removed from Toyland to be put away.

DR cillaliz, right after I moved to New York, my former Office Outfitters coworker Ollie Lige and his wife Minnie were killed by carbon monoxide in their home, I still miss them. I'm glad you discovered this problem in time.

DR Ginny, I'm not sure exactly what you were asking about the Duchess' entertainment; are you posting that in the opera, there was a guest appearance by the band? It's not an uncommon occurrence. FLEDERMAUS New Year's Eve performances for years have thrown guest artists into the party scene as antertainers.

TOD: Outside of AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS, I can't think of a single David Niven film.

Oregon has a new law requiring carbon monoxide detectors for all rental units, which of course Betsy and I now have.  We also got a couple for the new house.

Cilla, I've had basement water issues in a couple of houses.  Sometimes it's something very simple, like a clogged or disconnected downspout which is dumping huge amounts of water next to a basement window, etc.  Even if it's seeping through the foundation there are paints you can buy that seal the cement and make the water less likely to penetrate.  If you have a high water table (which we do at the new house), you may need to put in a small sump pump (which is what we did here).

The Cheesecake Factory was the first restaurant in Phoenix that I know of that instituted valet parking. They closed off the handicap area to do so, meaning that you either had to pay to be dropped off by the door or push your walker a long way. Thus, I dislike Cheesecake Factory. DR Sandra, however, loves it. We always go there to get her a piece of cheesecake for her birthday.

In other breaking--literally--news, we have huge Bali blinds in our living room.  Because I am an idiot (technical term), when we first moved in, I thought the "wand" which makes the blinds cantilever open and closed (as opposed to drawing them like curtains) was a "twisty" wand.  It turns out it's a "push up, pull down" wand.  So of course I broke it.  I managed to cobble it together last year with regular tape, but it broke again yesterday.  I have now moved on to duct tape, which will also help in case the blinds are attacked by terrorists.  :)

Last night I watched a homegrown DVD of Coke Time from June 27, 1960 - I don't remember watching this show when I was small, I don't know why.....

It was an ABC show....and the guests on this particular show - in addition to host Pat Boone - were Paul Anka, Bobby Darin, Annette Funicello, Anita Bryant, Frankie Avalon, Edd Byrnes, and Bob Denver.  They did several songs from current Broadway shows including GYPSY, SOUND OF MUSIC, WEST SIDE STORY, and BYE BYE BIRDIE in addition to some of their hit songs.

Lots of choreography....Annette and the dancers did a Madison routine that was used to the "T" in the movie HAIRSPRAY.

I'm not sure I do have a working CM detector but I'm going to get one.  After installing the new furnace a few years ago, I wasn't that worried about it. Guess I should have been.  LOL. NOW I'm sleeping with the window open. Of course now the duct work at least has duct tape on it.    They are going to install a new water heater and new duct work in the morning.  All should be well after that

I think I've figured out the basement water issue.  it wasn't much water and was in a strange spot.  I'm not convinced the cats haven't contributed, but I"m beginning to doubt it.   The cap that closes off the clean out on the floor drain had come loose and was sort of blocking the drain, so when the water softener shoots out the water, I think it goes all over the place.   Just a guess, but when I unplugged the water softener, it dried up.   I fixed the drain last night.  And since they will have to drain the water heater, I'm assuming they will have to fix the drain if it isn't working right :)

Remember when Richard, Rob, and I all applied for passports on March 16 and the clerk looked askance at my Oregon birth certificate?  Well, 2/3 of our household has received their passports - can you guess who has NOT?

There's probably an investigation on you beginning once they stop wasting time and money on Obama's birthplace.

Okay, everybody sing...

Some people live with humongous windows,
Right in the middle of a busy street.
These people long for some window treatments,
With which they know they'll be more discrete.

Bali blinds will shield you,
Ev'ry night, ev'ry day.
In your house, from nosy neighbors,
Hide away, hide away...

That's funny!  Good job, Dan!

Oh sure, JMK, you have to mention your high water table, while the rest of us have to be satisfied with a regular-size dining table.

To quote retiring Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ), "This remark was not intended to be a factual statement"

On a positive note, Sara Jean has agreed to be our Virgin Mary.

Which ass?  Ben, JMK, Woody, or the good senator?

Oh, yes. Carbon monoxide detectors. I had two of them when I lived in Virginia. One kept giving false alarms. The first time I called the fire department (which gets the neighbors' attention). After that I saw no point. Although they are certainly a good idea in concept, I question how accurate they are. And they are not cheap. However, that was a number of years ago and they may have improved. My advice to Cillaliz: buy one, but still have things checked by a professional. (The ones the fire department uses, I suspect, are far more accurate.) Maybe Ginny's son has some insight here?

When the tornado hit, the high school was either just starting or in the middle of a performance of their play. I had expected to hear some news today, but it is not going to happen this week.  My sister had blood work done by her doctor, two weeks ago.  Soon afterward, she got a call from the doctor's office, telling her that they were referring her to one of the Pacific Northwest most famous and respected oncologists and hematologists.

The test results showed elevated liver enzymes and extremely elevated white blood count.  There was a third thing, but my airhead sister admits that after the white blood count, she kind of tuned out.  She was supposed to see the specialist today, and quite frankly, I was expecting the worse. There was a scheduling mix-up, so the appointment has been rescheduled for hopefully next week.

So, for the moment I can put my worries and prayers for her on hold; and get back to trying to figure out to manage to find the rest of the rent before Monday

My favorite David Niven movies in order:

Bachelor Mother

My Man Godfrey

Ask Any Girl

The Bishop's Wife

I listed Bishop's Wife last as I feel it is more a Young & Grant film.

I don't believe I have ever seen BACHELOR MOTHER.

DR TCB, VIBES AND GOOD WISHES FOR YOUR SISTER!

Will someone be going with her to the specialist, preferably one who will take notes and ask questions?

DR Ginny--You should be receiving a letter if your birth certificate is not adequate.  It will be rejected if it is not a certified copy (meaning it has the signature of the Registrar, an original seal and a file date within one year of birth).   Also, hospital certificates are not acceptable.     You may want to check online to see how to order a new certificate from Oregon.

Okay, everybody sing...

Some people live with humongous windows,
Right in the middle of a busy street.
These people long for some window treatments,
With which they know they'll be more discrete.

Bali blinds will shield you,
Ev'ry night, ev'ry day.
In your house, from nosy neighbors,
Hide away, hide away...

My dental check-up went well and I'm home from errands.

Remember when Richard, Rob, and I all applied for passports on March 16 and the clerk looked askance at my Oregon birth certificate?  Well, 2/3 of our household has received their passports - can you guess who has NOT?

Where you were born in this country shouldn't make a difference!!!!

Silly Jane! Ginny wasn't born in the US of A she was born in Oregon!!

At about this time, ninety nine years ago today, the SS Titanic had already struck an iceberg that would, in only two hours and thirty minutes, send the "unsinkable ship" to its grave two and one half miles below.

Oh wow, maybe I should stay up late and watch Titanic.

Saturday night was going to be prom.  A local clothier is going to give all the boys tuxes with no rental cost and people are getting dresses for the girls and others are donating manicures and hairstyling.  I think it's cool that they are going to make sure the kids still get their prom

A very nice gesture.  I just hope that none of the high school boys dampen this generosity, by not returning the"free" tux.

It's a town of 1600 people and the high school is consolidated with a couple other small towns.  They wouldn't keep it, everyone in town would know it and would get it back.   Another interesting thing, yesterday the kids from Parkersburg-Aplington, who survived massive tornado a couple years ago came over in busses to help clean up the Mapleton high school.

Saturday, I'm going to put my work clothes on, put my gloves and boots in the car and head over there.  I'm curious to see it, but am more than willing to be put to work.  They have said they don't want lookie-loos, but I think they are still accepting help from people who are there to work......as they say

But we'll give you our shirt
And a back to go with it
If your crops should happen to die

Are any of our East Coast denizens going to see LA CAGE with Harvey Ferstein and Christopher Sieber?  I would love to see that production.  I will freely admit that I have a huge crush on Christopher Sieber.  He may be a total jerk, for all I know, but I would swoon at the very chance of being in the same room with him.

I would like to but doubt we will be able to

So, for the moment I can put my worries and prayers for her on hold; and get back to trying to figure out to manage to find the rest of the rent before Monday

the fact that they would delay her appointment sounds like hopeful news to me -- nonetheless prayers will be said  and ViBES are always being sent!!

Got "Waiting for Superman" from the library today. Can't wait to watch it tonight.

It is excellent!!
And sad. And anger-inducing.

I really wish I had had it for my paper on educational systems.

i got the grade on that paper today and did well without the movie, but it would have been that much better.

I sort of felt that way about "My Man Godfrey," but because of June Allyson, not David Niven.

Well, I need to head out and go to our last rehearsal.  Our final dress is a $5 preview, and I don't doubt that it'll be packed.  Hopefully, everything will go well!

Until later!

I'm home and we put on a good show.  The audience wasn't packed, but they enjoyed it. :D

Tomorrow, we open!
