And the word of the day is: MORATORY!
I know we talked about the movie and how it differed from the play, but as I have not yet transcribed the interview, I forget what Steve said about it.
I just had a good laugh; I've been listening to Rebecca Luker singing "Indian Summer," so I thought I'd like to hear one of the recordings between 1935 and 1960. Viennese opera star Richard Tauber has a lisp and I swear he sings "you thee tho many dreamth" and "you're ghotht of a romanth in June going athtray, Fading too thoon that'th why I thay." Oy!Thay, what do you mean?
I am going to my friend's funeral this morning.Vibes for you and your friend's family.
I am not having a good day, Friday or any other. I went down the basement this morning to find the carpet soaked with water. It's raining out and it's coming in from somewhere. The guy was a little late arriving to put in the water heater, but not much. It took the plumber 2 1/2 hours to get the job done, but he wasn't wasting time, so no complaints there. I spent that time with my steam vac sucking water out of the rug. But the heater and duct work is in and we're much safer.
BUT, as soon as I took a moment to relax I found an email from my mortgage co saying I hadn't paid my mortgage. I did...via THEIR website. My bank said there are no waiting transfers and it hasn't been paid, so now I have to deal with that.
Oh and Boo just threw up. Do i really want to go to work today?
I am going to my friend's funeral this morning.
Thank you. It is a Catholic mass (I didn't know they would do that for a non-Catholic). I hope I don't commit a faux pas.
I think the water is coming from a major downspout that has an elbow and goes underground. Right at the elbow it's leaking like a sieve and it's right by the wall where the water is. I have a big bucket under it and have emptied that 5 times. I need to figure out how to fix the downspout, even temporarily, so I can have someone look at it

DR Cillaliz, can you detact it and put on one of those flexable downspout extenders (at least for time being?)

I sort of felt that way about "My Man Godfrey," but because of June Allyson, not David Niven.
This weekend is the Vixfamily annual outing to http://www.iconsf.org/
We are somewhat underwhelmed with the guest list this year - especially as this is the 30th anniversary and we were expecting 'something special"
In the past Charles Pogues close and personal friend Harlan Ellison was a regular - but his last visit was in 2008
but we have had our tickets since Ocotber and we are transportation for several of the Vixter's friends - and it beats doing the laundry!
so I will not be around much if at all this weekend
I did a minor spit take when I received an email with this subject line this morning:
3DFUSION DEMONSTRATES GLASSES FREE 3DTV ASD, DISPLAYING LIVE CAMERA 3DFMax PERFECT PICTURE
It turned out to be a technical e-blast sent to Blu-ray.com. ;)
...and speaking of Iraq, the daughter of my friends who immigrated here from Baghdad a few years back, just bought her first prom dress! She is very excited!!
She graduates this year and will major in engineering next year at Western Oregon University (then transferring to Oregon State after a couple of years.) I am so proud of how well she and her brother are both doing since they arrived in the US.
Aww, Cillaliz. I hope your day gets better!

In happier news, a friend who had monarchs overwintering in her yard (quite the surprise to us -- that is so very unusual!), gave Wae-Ling a chrysalis that had fallen. We put it in a mesh cage. It eclosed yesterday. This morning Wae-Ling tagged it and set it free.
Wow Wae-Ling is really growing up
We are going on a butterfly walk tomorrow. Mae-Ling (one year older) wants to come too. I asked Mr. Goldstein if he thought she could manage to not throw a temper tantrum. He hesitated and suggested I just take Wae-Ling.

Just got off the phone with Chase - it's their computer error, one of their systems went down. So that's good news
My niece called the other day to tell me she had a big surprise for me. I had no idea what it would be.I'm beginning to like the sounds of your niece. :)
The surprise: she took out a new Fancy Nancy book (the poet one) from her school library. Neither one of us had read it or even knew about it.
I do love Fancy Nancy. My sister thought it was hysterical that she considered this a surprise for me. :)
TOD:I love "Desk Set." The Christmas party scene where Hepburn sings "Night and Day" just makes me want to work for that company. And I love how hilarious the size of Emerack, Miss Emmy, the computer, is.
I still have 3 films left in the Tracy/Hepburn Collection: PAT AND MIKE, DESK SET & GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER.
Also, I've just received a Sophia Loren Collection for review: YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW, MARRIAGE ITALIAN STYLE & SUNFLOWER.
From John G:It could be why I prefer the original. I could watch William Powell in anything and Carole Lombard is a dizzy delight.QuoteI sort of felt that way about "My Man Godfrey," but because of June Allyson, not David Niven.
I prefer this version, not that I dislike the other, mostly because of David Niven. I also like June Allyson in it.
They have indeed caught the little sucker - hiding in some bushes just up the street from the school.
I was "tagged" on Facebook with a photo of us at the Bernese Mountain Dog gathering. Keith was able to fix Sherlock's blue eye so it looks natural. Unfortunately Keith couldn't do anything about his very sunburned nose.Nice.

BK - I am shocked to read that you ate Farfel for lunch. That dog and his N-E-S-T-L-E-S commericial were a cherished part of my youth.

Rent vibes for DR TCB.

I will probably have to explain that one to some of the younger folk.

As I was getting ready to leave for work this morning, at about 4:30; a whole slew of fire trucks went racing past my place and into Point Defiance. Naturally, at that time of day, the park is normally closed. Sadly, it turned out that the Pagoda, which was built in 1914, was burning. The building is often used for weddings and other events. I guess the damage was extensive. So sad, no doubt arson.
I agree that the movie version of TEA AND SYMPATHY is a well-acted "disgrace".
You can say the same thing about the film version of CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF.
Damn the Hays Code!

OMGosh! what a beautiful place! I hate to think of it as having been destroyed.
this seems disturbing, however.
TCB is quite the comedian today...he is on a roll....a kaiser roll! :D
Oh, Jane, never complain about that. ;D
Maybe I'll have some sweet potato fries.
The Pagoda looks like it's made of brick, with a tile roof--what would have burned?
Gee, Jane. You can still type without typos. How about another glass?

From what I have seen on TV, it appears that the roof was all wood under the tile.
I guess I can't snatch the pagoda fire photo I wanted to show, but if you go to this hyperlink, you can then go to the Photo Gallery of the fire.
Is anyone else having a problem when they click on quote? It seems far to often just an empty box shows up, as it did just now.

Just try again. That always works for me.
Did anyone see Google's logo today?
After I got home, the most wonderful thing happened. Edith's husband, Chris, called me and asked me if I'd like him to come over and fix the downspout. OMG!!! I had stopped at the farm and home store and bought everything to rig up a temporary fix, but it was very temporary and I had no long term plan. So Chris and Edith stopped over. He took a look at it took part of it off and headed to the store. He came back and was able to rig up a temporary fix and will come back tomorrow to fix it permanently. I am so thankful. It was nothing for him, but it was a huge deal to me

DR JohnG - I guess you found some guava recipes. ;)I can buy the membrillo all the time. I was using fresh and, boy, the guava ice cream is delicious, all heavy cream and fruit and sugar.
Do you have enough to make some membrillo or goiabada?
the ones we have in town are like a small, rounder and smoother skinned lemon with a little blossom at one end, like a pomegranate.Guava juice was one of the ingredients on CHOPPED tonight

I don't think I would recognize a guava if it fell in my lap

Great news about Edith's husband fixing the problem, Cillaliz!
