Good morning, all!

This is another lazy weekend for the most part. I have some research on some Appalachian folk songs topics and I have to deal with the latest EILEEN crisis that was dumped in my lap yesterday afternoon  by my colleague Curtis.

DR cillaliz, what a great thing for Edith and her husband to do for you yesterday. I hope this will resolve the  drainage situation.

More coffee!

I'm up. Cats are fed and I've medicated Callie.   Now, off to find breakfast and a good fan that will dry the basement once and for all.   I have a fan but it's really old and not very powerful.   Then I'll scrub the few moldy spots off the carpet with borax and water.    I'm considering spraying the solution on the spots on the walls, but may just cut out the wet part and replace it when everything has totally dried out. There is no mold or mildew smell at the moment.  I want to keep it thata way

DR Elmore, I thought it was really nice of them.  Edith has said many times that I should call Chris if I need help, but I've never really felt right about it.  Of course, I'm not good at asking anyone for help.  It meant a lot to me that they called and came right over.

We survived an interminable Beverly Hills Seder that year at Betsy's brother's in-law's palatial mansion, which is basically a living art museum, replete with display cases and vaults in the wall.  Really incredible, actually.  Zach was still a toddler and we kept him basically chained to our side the whole night.  We were literally on our way out the door when Zach, in a move which still defies physics, managed to reach out, grab a priceless African baked pot which was on an end table, and then throw it violently against a wall where it smashed into a million tiny pieces.  Strangely, we've never been invited back to their home after that.

OH!

DR Jane - My friend, Jason, is currently starring in Holmes & Watson Save the Empire at Oregon Cabaret Theatre.

-I'm not sure they allow dogs inside the theatre.

No dogs, they do serve food, or we would definitely go.  Since your friend is in it maybe we still can.  I'm not sure if I can tolerate sitting in the chairs that long.  Before my shoulder they killed my back.  I'm not the only one who complains about the chairs or takes a pillow.  I could ask, again, if they got new chairs.  Did Jason say if the show is good?

Variable checkerspot

Mourning cloak caterpillars

The hummingbird flew off. Someone lifted up Wad-Ling so she could see in side the nest. She reported two jelly-bean sized eggs.

No. Nobody was there when I arrived this morning. They must have left after he died. I sort of figured it before the nurse told me because there was nobody there, and the first day I visited, there had been at least 50 people from all around town.

Richard loved wine, great and small, though he shared some great wines with me over the years. I will lift a glass in his memory tonight.

We then went to a Relax Your Back store where I tried a Teeter Hangup.  I may get one, it felt pretty good.  The hilarious thing is I recognized the store owner from our association probably close to 30 years ago--I was "house" pianist at a very tony downtown Italian men's clothing store which, yes, had a grand piano in the showroom, and he was the ice cream scooper at the place next door I used to frequent on my breaks.

Yesterday, while I was helping a coworker jump start the battery in her car, the power went out in our building.  It was almost 5:00 pm on a Friday, so they closed the building.  I actually had a CD in my computer that's still there.  We found out that there was an accident a couple of miles south of there...Man arrested after chase starting at Millersylvania (http://www.theolympian.com/2011/04/15/1618109/man-arrested-after-chase-starting.html) (Millersylvania is a park south of Olympia).

Anyway, we all left and I went home for a little bit.  I didn't even have time to turn on my computer.  I had to go to my sister's to feed her cats and change their litter boxes.  After that, I went to the theater, where we had our official opening night of Cannibal! The Musical!  We had almost a full house and they were a great crowd.  They were with us most of the time.  Pug, our director, said that it got a little slow in the second act, but overall went quite well.

After the show, a bunch of us went upstairs to the Eagles club and partied and chatted and danced and drank (no one drove drunk, though).  They closed at 2:00 am and several of us were still there.  We decided to walk a couple of blocks to a 24 hour coffee shop and were there for about 45 minutes or so.  Then we all went to our respective homes.  I came home and went directly to bed.

I didn't wake up until after noon, and I watched some TV until now.  I need to take a shower, feed my sister's cats and then go to the theater.  After tonight's show, Pug is having a party at her place.  It's going to be another long night, but tomorrow's performance isn't until 8:00, so I have another day to sleep in. :)

Ugh! I really don't want to deal with the basement.  It's drying but I still have some mold and mildew around the edges of the room.  I decided to try borax instead of bleach - mostly because I have it.  I mixed a solution of it and sprayed all the mold.  (there really isn't very much) It's supposed to be a fungicide.  I still need to scrub it all off. Blah.  I just can't bring myself to do it.

I am trying out my new AC unit. When my lease was up I decided to stay on, but asked if an AC unit could be installed. Some of the apartments in this building have them, some do not. Mine did not. I was expecting to have to pay for it myself, but the manager readily agreed and took care of it at no cost to me. Nice. I hope it doesn't run up my electric bill too much, though. Last year I positively died on hot days.

Jane and JMK, is the Teeter Hang-up one of those inversion things? I bought a BioMat, which is a large infrared heating pad, which feels WONDERFUL on my back. It's also excellent for my circulation. There are smaller, cheaper units available, too. The intrared heat penetrates much more than a standard heating pad and it's a "nicer" heat. Hard to explain, but it sure feels good. These old bones (mine) need all the help they can get.

Other then RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and parts of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE 3RD KIND, I have not seen any Speilberg movies, it would appear. And since I have never bothered to see RAIDERS a second time and never had a desire to see the all of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS...well...there are some films of his that I am sure I will see one day.

Mike, I suggest if you want to see CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, see the original cut of the film.  I think the last DVD I saw had three different versions.  The Directors Cut, or whatever they called it took a lot of the magic and the humor out of the film.  They added a lot of magic at the end, but I don't think it really needed it.

I use a Battle Creek Thermophore heating pad which is electric.  It is different from regular heating pads as it delivers moist heat.  I have let it get too hot a number of times.

How does the infrared pad deliver heat?

I have a couple friends in similar situations to what I was in when I left my job working for the federal government.  There are differences, but it's the same leaving a good salary to get away from the place they are working.  It was being discussed by several people at the party last night and I had to stop and remind them that I did the same thing...without missing a beat the response was..."Yeah, but you are happy now.  Much happier than you used to be"    Wow.  It's true, but sometimes I forget how it was back then and I didn't realize people have noticed the difference.

It's nice to know that your DS Zach has always been one to follow directions.

Went out to dinner tonight and the seafood restaurant was so bad and so geared toward 20somethings that we decided to leave after appetizers. So we went down to the road to another place, Greek, that we enjoyed. Then we stopped at a wine bar owned by good acquaintances (the owner lost her brother this week, so we commiserated for a minute about how it could have been a better week). Then we went to a third restaurant, Mexican street food, to make it a truly progressive dinner.

And I don't need to eat for a week.

My basement is leaking so I have put towels down to act as dams...
