Good morning, all! Last night I had the strangest dreams, very much like A CHRISTMAS CAROL epiphany, so I wonder if I had ghostly apparitions as well? The dream, which seemed to go on forever, featured a lot of dead folk I care for, including my parents, and a lot of folk that for reasons of confict and dispute I've lost contact with. The first half of the dream, as I now remember it, was about a lot of grudges and my conflicts with various and sundry folk while the second half of the dream was more of a revelation that a lot of the blame actually fell on me. There are some former friends I am thinking now about contacting. But not the Macbeths. Never the Macbeths! That's the one place the dream goes to hell, and I blame the ghosts of my parents.

Today, the NYPL at Lincoln Center. I have some research and it will be good to be out and about.

BK, did you hold a copy of CAMELOT for me?

TOD:
Too many songs, especially the complete scores for "The Fantasticks," "110 In the Shade," and "Colette Collage." I loved working on "Mirette" with Harvey and Tom at Goodspeed but I have absolutely no memory of the score!

DR TCB - "Are You Ready, Gyp Watson?" is a song from the Broadway musical DESTRY RIDES AGAIN....produced in 1959 and starring Andy Griffith and Dolores Gray.  The OBC is on CD and it is fun to listen to.  It has music and lyrics by Harold Rome.

The Gyp Watson on Broadway - and presumably in the clip is Marc Breaux (as in "Marc and DeeDee").

Last night I dreamed Elton John songs over and over....so this morning I got online and got in the moment tickets went on sale and, instead of doing the usual buy one and go by myself, I bought 2.   I spent way more money than I should have, but I decided I don't care.  I've always loved Elton John and since I don't have to travel to see him, I'm going.

I'll either sell the second ticket to someone or see if Paul wants to trade a painting for it.  He's done a really cool immigration painting.  I almost have him convinced to just give it to me anyway, maybe this will tip the scales.

Astonished that word of mouth on BABY IT'S YOU has really turned around during its few weeks of previews.  Word has it that the story still doesn't hold together as drama, but that the show is loads of fun, maybe even (if needed) critic-proof fun that will really pick up come summer and tourist season.  Go figure, really.   It looked dire for the show just three weeks ago.

What'ya know, my favorite all time movie (Attack of the Puppet People [1958] )was released in the middle east, back in the day! It is comforting to know that filmgoers the world over have been exposed to this movie.

I wonder how the reviews were?

I don't think anything has changed about Baby, It's You.  I think Warners is spending millions to make it seem so - sending people on chat boards, giving freebies to bloggers - the changes have been, from what I'm told, inconsequential.

Last night, there were 12 of us dining on crown roast of pork stuffed with macaroni and cheese, a ham, purple cauliflower, a just-picked garden salad, plenty of snacks, homemade Kalamata olive bread and who knows what all else. What was missing was the asparagus, which I forgot to prepare. Guess I'll be eating two pounds of it over the next few days.

Desserts were a blueberry pie with whipped cream and an apple cake with rum sauce.

I saw a mystery bird last week.   I was passing a car that obviously didn't see me...or didn't like that I was passing...and the driver flipped me off.

Why, I could not say.  I was doing the speed limit, I didn't blow my horn, and I had no clue as to how she could have been pissed off at me.

But that mystery bird flew all the same.

George's photo, Jane?

What's really funny is that a few years ago, the library's non-fiction selector actually ordered "Field Guide to the North American Bird," thinking that it was a guide to actual birds and not "the bird."  We ordered them from a vendor that preprocesses books for us, so they had our barcodes and property stamps already on them.  We couldn't return them.  I don't remember what they did with them, but they didn't add them to the library's collection.

Well, we just got an official e-mail saying that the candidate who was offered the collection manager job (my supervisor) has turned it down.  "Although we found an outstanding candidate, her current employer offered her more money to stay and she turned down our job offer."  The position was originally announced in early February and it's now late April.  Who knows how long it'll take to do this all over again.

And if they do it too soon, they might just get some of the same candidates that they didn't want in the first place, but then if they didn't get an interview the first time, I don't know if they'd bother with applying again.  We had the same problem with the director position late last year. :-\

My sister and I have had a full day shopping and lunching and shopping some more.  We came home and picked up my brother-in-law and went to the outlet mall near Frankenmuth before having dinner at Zender's.  The shopping was mostly looking at potential mother-of-the-groom dresses and I deduced that it will be a challenge, but not impossible to find something.  Mary Linda's Mom wants us to wear floor-length, but she hasn't chosen her color yet.  I'll wait until she does before I start looking seriously.

Lucky person getting offered more money to stay.  I'm surprised there wasn't a second choice.

Is there a plan for a matching color theme for the mother's ?  I thought you had an idea of what color you want.

DR Jane - I've been thinking "blue" for my dress, but today I saw a lot of other possibilities.

The rich blue you look so good in?  What color are the bridesmaid dresses?

The attendants are wearing purple.  The only reason I'm shying away from my favorite blue is that my mother wore navy for our wedding and it looks black in the pictures.

Good reason.  Isn't navy darker than your favorite blue?

There were two in-person interviews, but the other candidate really wasn't as good a choice as anyone would've liked.  There was a very good in-house candidate (in the opinion of several of us...although she didn't make it to the final round of "in-person" interviews), but the director (whose decision it is) did not agree. ::)

Maybe the director will take a second look at the in-house candidate.

One can only hope...she's the interim-collection manager and has been for several months.

Did it look like this?

From your photo, unless you included a description, it doesn't look like our scrub jays. ;D

Another photo shows the thick bill better. You can see the long tail and the light breast. Probably he recognized the silhouette.

For the first time in days, I actually watched a movie. And without working at the same time. It was "The Human Comedy," with Mickey Rooney and a young version of nearly everybody else, Van Johnson, Donna Reed, you name it. It was a good tear-jerker, but the book is so much better. So is the musical.
