Post by: bk on April 28, 2011, 12:29:33 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes said hello and bye bye, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently trying to figure out why there isn't a musical called Bye Bye Cow.

I'll do it at work because the copy machine there can make one pdf file with multiple pages.  I haven't figured out how to do that at home (I can only scan one page at a time).  I'll also fix a wrong note in one of the songs. :)

Why am I up this early?  I'll tell you why - because I had a feeling that I could not shake and when I went to my pants pocket to check, it was true:  This little silly thing that someone gave me about eight years ago and that I have had with me in my pocket every day since is gone, thanks to that STUPID security check last night.  I am FURIOUS and I'm sure it's long lost, although I'll call this morning and give them a rather strong piece of my mind and suggest that if they don't have it they're going to replace it.

Good morning, all! In yesterday's mail I got the new biography of Jerry Orbach, and I stayed up way too late reading it. It isn't very good; the author cannot even title the photos correctly: that's Jerry as Macheath in the 1955 THREEPENNY OPERA, not as the Streetsinger.

Yesterday could have been horrendous but it ended up a nice 6-hour session, playing through the vocal score and discussing EILEEN, My friend Greg Jarrett played piano for four hours and then the last two were discussions about the recording, the Herbert recordings we've done, etc.  I was quite happy with the day's events.

This afternoon, laundry and mopping the floors. Then I have work to do on this Appalachian Christmas piece. I need to see if two folksongs can be performed together.

If this isn't the funniest thing (on several levels) you've read this morning, please post something better:

JODIE FOSTER DEFENDS MEL GIBSON

"I'm not defending his behavior. I'm defending the man that I know. And I know he's kind and loyal and is an incredible professional," she tells the Associated Press. "He's probably the most beloved actor of anybody I've ever worked with in the film business. And I don't say that lightly."

Foster adds that Gibson's recent struggles helped inform his performance as a depressed man who only communicates with his family through a beaver puppet he wears on his hand.

Big brother "turned in" little brother last night.  Little brother had been looking at some questionable videos on YouTube.  I went back and looked through them, mostly harmless despite some shocking XXX titles, but my favorite was "Breast Massage," which turned out to be an informational video for women to self-check themselves for lumps.  :)

Our Sons - a tv movie with Julie Andrews

I Oughta Be In Pictures

I guess I started to look away when she played a sexy role in NEWSIES.....

I like her best now when she does character roles that don't depend on her SEX appeal.....if she even does those now.  But she is a survivor, and she doesn't seem to be afraid of a challenge.

Good morning!   OUr office smells like gas this morning, so I called the maintenance guy and opened the windows. He things the trap on the furnace drain dried out and it's sewer gas. So he poured wated down the drain.  Then he said someone else in the building smells it so he might be wrong and left.     It really didn't smell like the scent added to natural gas, so I'm just going to leave the windows open for awhile and see if it goes away

bk - And as for that "STUPID" security check, well... Maybe something happened over the past couple of weeks that prompted them to post that sign as well as to institute that security check. Maybe there's been another spike in gang activity in LA. -Heck, bag checks have become routine at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and The Metropolitan Opera in New York City. It just takes one person with some sort of grudge, etc. to cause a lot a harm.

-When I went to the Philippines, there were "Please Check Your Firearms" signs at the malls in Manila. And I saw a few people who did. In any case...

I do hope that your memento turns up.

She will say whatever she needs to say as long as the film needs publicity. It is Hollywood, after all, and she certainly doesn't want the film to fail.

Don't remember if I posted about seeing Ali Vincent -5th season winner from The Big Loser yesterday.   She talked a lot about what it's really like to be on the ranch. IT sounds brutal!  They end up working out from 7:00 AM to 2:00 AM.  Of course there are breaks and challenges etc.  She also talked about being so sore that she had to roll out of bed, crawl across the floor, take her towel and lassoo the door knob and literally pull herself up.  And how the doctors would slice the blisters on their feet, wrap the feet up and send them back to exercise.   It just sounds awful

She had defended him before which is my guess as to why they are working together again.  I'm sure with her he was all of those things.

I also saw TANGLED and I must say that there were some parts that were too scary for kids.

I would say that in a way they have targeted this to 5 year old girls. Yet there were some chase scenes with bad guys that made me niece very scared. She even wanted to leave the room (and she had already seen it).

Actually, the hotel I am staying at after the Marriott, is not really bad. Just your normal run of the mill hotel in Burbank. It is cheap because I booked it with the car and the flight together.

DR Cillaliz I am so excited for you re: your new e-bike. Can't wait to hear about it.

Where you live is it considered a bike? (that you can park it on a bike rack and ride it on bike paths?)

Yes!  I looked at the state law and the city code before I bought it and as long as it doesn't go over 20 mph with the motor and is fully operable with pedals it is a bike.

Had a couple hours more sleep and have been doing stuff all day.  I called the Academy and got security - they had an event going on and were frazzled but the guy took the info and said he'd call back in ten minutes.  He was confused as to where I'd lost it - thinking it had been in the auditorium - I explained rather tersely that no, it was in THEIR search of our pocket contents in the little gray trays.  He never called back, but I got him again around three and he said he'd just wanted to check with a few other people who were there last night.  So, as of now, my little ladybug thing is still lost.  I tried to go online to see if I could find something similar - I found plastic and wood, which I don't want - I don't know if what I had was glass or porcelain or ceramic - the closest I found was a lot of six little ladybugs made of glass, and I bought those on eBay.  Hopefully I'll like one of them and it will be similar - I'm very used to having this in my pocket and I want it there.  Stupid, I know, but that's the way it is.

I also purchased a zipper pull, a chain that attaches to a zipper, with a litter Bernese Mountain Dog on the end.  Yesterday I was in our favorite shop in town where we usually shop with Sherlock in tow.

The woman at the check-out saw my zipper chain, got all excited & asked if I have a Bernese Mountain Dog.  Without laughing I said yes, I have Sherlock.  She then exclaimed, "I LOVE SHERLOCK".

Yes, but from what I've read it really just amounts to putting on the handle bars, putting on the seat, putting on the front tire and adjusting the brakes.   If I have touble, I have a number of hard core biker (as in bicycle) friends who I'm sure would be glad to help me.  I can't ride it until the battery has charged 8-12 hours anyway.

Having hard core biker friends is a plan, just in case.  I would never attempt to build a bike.  For years Bryan had a bicycle we purchased from my friend's son & babysitter, he built himself.  It had a number of special items including a beautiful multi colored bike chain Bryan bought at the flea market & the neighbor installed.  Of course the new bike the neighbor built was even nicer.

I've been watching the first two acts of the Birmingham Royal Ballet's gorgeous production of Prokofiev's CINDERELLA. I will never like thes core much, although that G-minor waltz that closes the first act is magnificent, but the production is beautiful and nicely choreographed. The masks are amazing and the mice, lizard and frog are adorable in their 18th Century costumes. It's odd seeing women portray the ugly stepsisters since they're usually played by two men in drag. The dancer playing the stepmother is fantastic; she is mean, really mean, and plays evil  really really well.

And what channel should I watch? I really can't decide. I wish there was a list of who was going to be on each network. I think Anderson Cooper will be on CNN (i like him). I know Barbara Walters will be one of the people on ABC. I'm wondering if Joan Rivers will be on E!  If she will be on E! then I will watch that.

That is assuming I wake up. I'm not really an early morning person. And I am not going to set my alarm. I will record it in case i oversleep. But if I do wake up then I will watch.

It's odd seeing women portray the ugly stepsisters since their usually played by two men in drag. The dancer playing the stepmother is fantastic; she is mean, really mean, and plays evil  really really well.

Someone managed to review this without using the word "debris" here:

I'm trying to figure out if this Royal Wedding Souvenir could end up being a collectible? Or just a piece of junk? ;)

That is pretty funny, Jose.

Is anyone other than DR Cillaliz getting up early tomorrow to watch the wedding?

And what channel should I watch? I really can't decide. I wish there was a list of who was going to be on each network. I think Anderson Cooper will be on CNN (i like him). I know Barbara Walters will be one of the people on ABC. I'm wondering if Joan Rivers will be on E!  If she will be on E! then I will watch that.

That is assuming I wake up. I'm not really an early morning person. And I am not going to set my alarm. I will record it in case i oversleep. But if I do wake up then I will watch.

No way am I waking up early.  I set a couple of different channels to watch & will skim through them to bits, such as the wedding, here and there. I have CNN set and something else in HD.

bk - As for "God of Carnage" - It was alluded to by another DR earlier, but...

Do you know anything about the play? Well, at least about something very specific that happens in the play?

I was wondering the same thing.

I don't understand the "debris" comment.

Ashton also rearranges the score and invented that showcase role of the jester in Acts Two and Three for one of the loves of his life, Alexander Grant The Royal Ballet production from the 1980s is fun with rivals Ashton and Helpman playing the sisters. The old tv broadcast with Margot Fonteyn, which I saw around 1956, like THE SLEEPING BEAUTY from around the same time, is really cut down.

This DVD has no special features, I think. I'll check after Act Three. Opus Arte really does have better packaging, but maybe Kultur doesn't feel Birmingham rates the same luxury as the Royal Ballet!

Nope, no special features on the ballet, and the score has big cuts in Act Three,

I've seen a few photos of the (almost) princess. In my opinion, she doesn't look good in hats. They looked so natural on Diana. But not on Kate.

Our esteemed BK once complained that "all" internet reviewers used the word "debris" in their critiques of damaged prints, etc. (or perhaps in this case, damaged prince).  ;)

I actually got an email from Kultur about my comment about the missing documentary alluded to in my review—there evidently were only a couple of very short bridging moments to help get the broadcast through the intervals and those were never edited properly, so, no, there are no supplements on this release.

Well, it's late, I'm not sure if I'll get up...better set the DVR just in case.  It's funny, I don't really care about the wedding, but at the same time I want to watch it. Maybe I just want an excuse not to go to the office tomorrow
