And the word of the day is: ANOMIA!
Greetings from on board the aeroplane. Elmore, can you meet at Joe Allen tonight? Well probably get there around eight thirty
Vibes and prayers for Ruby!Ditto.
Off to take a walk in the sunshine - bye for now!I need to do that, too. May walk to the library.
I've never seen the show and would love to, even if it's a local production. I haven't seen any clips on YouTube yet (a surprise). And no reviews.

DR Jose - how is your mother today?
One note: I hope Regine is having a great time doing this show, because her number will always be eclipsed by Linda Lavin's Broadway Baby, or at least that's how it felt even on Sunday night..
In a way, I wish that they would stop reviving FOLLIES so often. IM(very)HO, I think it's too much a show of it's time--the authors' intent was to piss off their early 70s upper middle class audiences by shattering the post-war American Dream myths. Nowadays, the show is more about how it's casted and staged than what it's about.
DR Jose - how is your mother today?
Well...
I just called home and she answered the phone. :)

Good news, indeed!

Yesterday I went biking with my niece (who is just a few weeks without her training wheels). IT was interesting.
Last year someone down the street was throwing out their kids bike. So i took it. So now my niece can ride with me.
She can now start on her own. And more or less stop. Only issue is her steering. She can't really stay straight in a very small area.
So no bike path yet. She could do it as long as there were no other bikes on the path. :)
(not sure how she would get out of the way).
So we just went around the block and close by. At first i was going to just jog beside her. But I was feeling a bit under the weather and it was too hard to run beside her. The bike thing worked out well. I could stay in the middle of the street to make sure no cars got near her. And surprisingly even though we were out for an hour it didn't take much energy. Even though i was always pedalling. I wasn't going fast.
george, cute photo.
Safe trip for BK...
Just don't try to open the cabin door after the plane takes off.
::)
jose, good to hear your mother is home-wishes she stays well!Ditto.
I Am About To Commit Heresy(I guess)No heresy here. I have little desire, actually no desire, to see it.
I just listened to the OCR of Tne Book Of Mormon on NPR and I am Unmoved
I suppose you have to see the show to appreciate it. The Music just drones on and is so repetitive.Has anyone on this Board seen it or heard it.??
I am kind of shocked that it was nominated for so many Tony's.
By Just listening to the recording,I have no desire to see this show.

I didn't learn much about THE CENTURY GIRL, which opened on Nov 6, 1916, at the Century Theatre at 62nd and Central Park West, but I did get several good lines from the reviews. It had a score by Victor Herbert and Irving Berlin, and it was the last Ziegfeld rrevue to be named after the theatre in which it appeared.Great quotes.
One reviewer wrote "Hazel Dawn was as insipid as ever." Miss Dawn was the actress whose performance in Ivan Caryll's THE PINK LADY was the catalyst for Ruth Gordon's acting career, and she figures prominently in Gordon's biography and her biographical play, and film, THE ACTRESS.
The New York Times critic called it "something like a production of the 'Follies' magnified past calculation."

I REMEMBER JOGGING ALONG SIDE THE BOYS AS THEY RODE THEIR BIKES. I WAS IN GREAT SHAPE BACK THEN.

That is what I did last week. Although i dislike jogging. But when you are a bit under the weather it is very hard to do! Biking was a much better idea.

"Avenue Q" has a wonderful score, though. So did "South Park" the movie. "Blame Canada" is hilarious. Nothing comes close to that here.I Am About To Commit Heresy(I guess)

It's definitely a show "from the creators of "South Park" and "Avenue Q" - especially of the "South Park" movie which did away with all of the "bleeps" required by the rules of broadcast television. The songs are meant to be parodies, spoofs and homages(?) to other shows and styles. I also think that the "shock value" of the score - well, the lyrics - is lessened(?) in the theater when there's book scenes between them.
In short, it's definitely not a show that everyone will like.
Glad to hear you mom is home, Jose.
I visited with Ruby. She was glad to see me. She is so tiny.
Had an uneventful trip to Kroger. Now I'm pre-cooking chicken to fry for dinner - Richard's request.
Vibes for Ruby, who sounds like the kind of person the world needs more of.
DR Jane, was your mother in law in show business? She should been!
By the way, DR Jane, looks like I will be down your way towards the end of the month. My family voted, without my input I might ad, to be the one to take mom down to Medford for a weekend visit. Looks like it will be during the Memorial Day weekend.
Hopefully I can catch up with you, Keith, and Sherlock ....have yet to meet that big hairy beast yet, and I just want to give him a big hug!
George: more grist for your Who mill

it is obviously a man-caused fire. The auto makers put ashtrays in cars for a reason.

Laura, dear, - many new cars do not come equipped with ashtrays.

PS How can you be sure it was not a woman-caused fire ?
Or drivers who smoke can put their butts into a tin can.
I'd discuss my visit to the hand surgeon, but Jane has a corner on that market :)

...What happened and are you ok?
The arboretum is closed today while the firefighting goes on around it. So far it is safe. It's out in the middle of nowhere with very dry desert all around.
We have had no lightening, so it is obviously a man-caused fire. The auto makers put ashtrays in cars for a reason.
ETA: 500 acres so far

What's Up, Doc?
Texasville
At Long Last Love (favorite doesn't mean it has to be good)
I've seen too many unfunny comedies over the years from "The Hangover" and "Meet the Parents" to "Finding Nemo." But I think "1941" is probably the longest, least funny movie I've ever seen.

No word on "Follies," FJL?
Nah, I don't want to get into a debate over it or about Eric Schaeffer and I felt where the vibe was going on this production the other day. I've enjoyed so much of Eric Schaeffer's work, and his track record with my having been entertained by his work is as great as any director I can think of. The highs are not as high as with some other directors, but the percentage of thoroughly enjoyable experiences is very high, and when I say thoroughly enjoyable, that's much higher than competent.
The projects he chooses to do and how he does them (rumors have it he's very much choose the right actors, let the actors find the way it'll go and then mold from there - or something like that, which some people seem to deride) really has resulted in many productions I've had a great time at.
John G - OK. I really enjoyed it,as the first time I've ver seen it fully staged - and it was much better in terms of holding together on Sunday. Several of the supporting players were really really messy on Saturday, and Bernadette Peters either was under the weather or trying something unexpectedl with Losing My Mind but was vocally perfect on Sunday in a traditional way.
One note: I hope Regine is having a great time doing this show, because her number will always be eclipsed by Linda Lavin's Broadway Baby, or at least that's how it felt even on Sunday night..
ron, beautiful photo of your mother.Indeed.
If cars don't have ashtrays, do they also not have lighters? With no lighter, where would one plug in the cell phone charger ???

i have been icing the heck out of my wrist & hand today and don't think the swelling has gone down. :(
Tonight's treat: A deep-fried Twinkie with a deep-fried Oreo on the side. (I only had the teeniest taste.)

I'm thinking maybe she wouldn't have missed the step on that stepladder if she had been wearing sneakers.
Well, yeah. But I don't try to climb ladders.

I am returned from Joe Allen's where I spent a lovely evening with BK, Barry Pearl whom I'd not seen since THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X at NYMF, and Lauren(?) the Singer. I will let BK tell you all about how hopping the place was. I have to get to bed to be up early.
Regine, DR TCB, sang "I Never Do Anything Twice" in the film THE SEVEN PER CENT SOLUTION. I guess the fact she's European and had sung a Sondheim song once gave her the proper cachet for this production.
