Title: TENACIOUS TUESDAY
Post by: bk on May 18, 2011, 12:08:37 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were tenacious and written on a Tuesday despite being Wednesday's notes, and now it is time for you to post until the tenacious cows come home.

Good morning, all! I have a trip to the McGlinnventory this morning. At 9:30 I'm meeting our paralegal Geri, whom I've not seen in months, and we will put together the vocal books for EILEEN to copied for the singers on the recording.

Following that, I will stop by Toyland for a couple of hours to use the piano. I wonder if our cleaning man will put in another appearance?  When I get home, I'll take my opening night gift for Ron Raines over to the Post Office. Then I can continue the writing for the Appalachian Project.

More coffee!

re: if Kirstie Alley can dance on DANCING WITH THE STARS.

I'd say she is a pretty good dancer. I don't think she's as good as the others in the finale. But she always acts her performances. And she seems to do the steps mostly correctly.

I think her biggest downfall has been that a few times she has been so focused on acting that she forgot to concentrate on the steps. And so she botched the timing of a few routines.

It will be interesting to see who wins.

Kym's injury was so scary. But I actually think that Hines' reaction is the best thing that could have happened to their team. I think he now has a lot more fans.

CBS has decided to move The Good Wife to Sunday nights. I really don't think this is a good idea. Especially with football always running over.
They think they are showing the show respect (by putting it on their biggest night). But I hate this idea.

I hope that the Canadian station that airs it does so at the same time so i won't have to deal with football.

I got a FB friend request today and couldn't for the life of me think of who this guy was, and then it dawned on me.  I arranged and accompanied him on his CD:

http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/mjhumphrey

Sweet guy, he came to me with his melodies recorded on a mini-dictaphone thing, he had no idea about harmonies, so I had to pretty much do all the "vertical" stuff myself.  We did the session in a huge one day thing--I laid down multiple tracks on I think 16 songs in about 3 or 4 hours and then he picked and chose from those.  Sweet, Kenny Rankin-ish voice, super nice guy.

No instructions at all - just a sound "test" for applause and laughter, which I really do to get clean applause and laughs should I need them for technical reasons - segues and such.

It's just so - blatant?  Call it Rare Alan Menken, whatever, but UNSUNG ALAN MENKEN?  The rarer songs of Menken?  It's like those concerts they do - Flopz and Cutz - Cutz is great songs from hit shows (Lost In Boston) and Flopz is great songs from flops (Unsung Musicals) - the MD on those shows knows our albums intimately and I'm so happy we inspired him.

I went ahead and took some of those "End of the World", "Judgment Day" pamphlets the other day, and read them. It's all based on numerology. Of course, now the groups who think that the end of the world is supposed to take place in 2012 are starting their campaign(?) now too. Oy!

Oy and vey - it looks like I may have to find yet ANOTHER helper.  Unbelievable.  The current helper just announced she'll be out of town from July 1 through 12 - first I've heard, and she acted like I should just schedule everything around those dates - of course, I'm sure we'll have a release to ship at some point in twelve days, so that's not good.  When she started, she told me of two periods where she'd be gone, both of which have passed.  Plus, I'm at the mercy of her auditions and call backs - that hasn't really been a problem yet, and I've given her endless leeway about how and when she does things.  So, we had a conversation and she doesn't like that I get stressed over this so she said maybe it's better to find someone new and she'll start looking.  I said that was fine but that she'd have to train them and I'd have to be comfortable.  I just don't get people - this is a great gig for her, she needs the money, it's easy/breezy, but that's the way the world is today.  I just can't run a company and be at a helper's beck and call.

There are a couple of films starring Robert Logan  -- the "Wilderness Family" movies and Mountain Family Robinson!

And don't forget about the Anthony Hopkins-Alec Baldwin "The Bear."  It's a tad violent, but it's all out in the wilderness.

And while I'm on the topic of bears, try "Clan of the Cave Bear".

"Jeremiah Johnson" starring Robert Redford is a good outdoorsy/nature type film, too.

Helper crisis averted.  Now dealing with the insanity of trying to schedule the Nudie elements to be picked up in Arizona and trucked to me here.  This would normally be a very simple deal, but for the craziness of the fellow who's giving me the stuff.  He's sans e-mail, sleeps till two in the afternoon and wanted to do it tomorrow at four.  The trucking company does windows - noon to five - but the guy I'm dealing with put extensive notes on the paperwork and we think it will be fine and they'll call my guy at three to come meet them at four.  Then when the stuff arrives in LA they'll call me an hour before delivery and I'll meet them at the Public Storage place.

The reason I'm asking is that my AAUW friends put me in charge of our January 2012 programming - an all-branch read and a corresponding movie.  The book we're considering is LAST CHILD IN THE WOODS:  SAVING OUR CHILDREN FROM NATURE-DEFICIT DISORDER, by Richard Louv.

DR JMK - will you and Betsy appear on the same bill - or will it be like Loretta Lynn & Lynn Anderson who NEVER appeared on the same stage together?

I have never heard that before.  What is the reason?

I am back from mailing three packages and soaking wet. I blame DR Jose, of corse for the rain, although I fear it may be a portent of Saturday's end of the world. I don't blame DR Jose for that.

DR JohnG, I did mail your package so you might find it waiting for you when you finish wandering around the garage on Friday.
Thank you in advance.

I went ahead and took some of those "End of the World", "Judgment Day" pamphlets the other day, and read them. It's all based on numerology. Of course, now the groups who think that the end of the world is supposed to take place in 2012 are starting their campaign(?) now too. Oy!

*Oh and the end of the world is supposed to be the result of a "rolling earthquake" that will start at 6:00am wherever you are on the Earth. -Just in case you wanted to know. ;)

I don't know that the Earth can count.

Well, I'm off to see Fame at Capital Playhouse (http://www.capitalplayhouse.com/).  It's the last show of their season.  They've announced their next season, and I bought my tickets at the last show, but I didn't pick them up.  Hopefully, I'll get them tonight.

Be back later with a report. :)

Maybe, DR TCB.  With all the good recommendations here, we could have a film festival in January, not just a movie night!

1) WHAT?!?!? Are they redoing their lines/cables/satellites?

2) Maybe you should invest in a Mobile Hot Spot (http://products.verizonwireless.com/index.aspx?id=fnd_mobile_hotspot)? My brother has one, and there are times when it runs faster than some "wired" WiFi hot spots.

Good news:  internets are up and running chez K.

As to what happened--you with sufficient memories may recall we went through enormous hassles here when we moved.  The internets were crashing daily and I had raise holy hell to get it fixed.  It took months and took a senior tech in Boise to finally get someone out here to address the issue.  Things have been more or less OK since then.

Until yesterday.  It started getting sporadic again, which is exactly what happened the last two times until it finally crashed, which of course it did today.  I spent three hours on the phone with various "tech" people who friggin' argued with me instead of trying to fix it.  The really irksome thing is I KNOW what's wrong (it's a junction box down the street), I pay for LINE BACKER (which covers all repairs), and yet these stupid friggin' people would NOT put through a repair ticket for me, insisting there was simply "congestion" in my neighborhood.  (And I'm a DSL customer, for crying out loud).

Anyway, I demanded a repair ticket be placed, but in the meantime they said the "congestion" would take over a month to get fixed.  I will simply go to Comcast if this isn't repaired PERMANENTLY on Friday.  I've had it with Qwest.

I actually didn't think I would like "The Hangover", but I did. Yes, it's juvenile, gross, crass and even lame at times, but it's done well. ;) -And the final credits were a nice way to tie things up too. -I also think that it's definitely a movie to see in a movie theatre. It just seems like a "crowd" movie to me.

Well I made the mistake of putting the new London CAMELOT in just to hear a bit of it......but of course I had to listen to ALL OF IT.

It is most excellent and very entertaining.....I like ALL of the singers.....and it's nice to hear it sung differently....and the music is different as well.....both of these are different in a GOOD way.

Laurence Harvey is a fine Arthur and I like Guenevere and Lancelot a LOT!

Beautiful.....the only thing I miss, is their version of the song GUENEVERE - but having FIE ON GOODNESS almost makes up for it....and the joust is great!

Thanks to MR BK and Kritzerland for making this recording available.....it inspired me even more about my upcoming production that I will begin directing the week after THE MUSIC MAN closes!

DR TCB - re: Loretta & Lynn.....they were the two Country Queen Bees and just would NEVER appear together...

It's interesting to me that Loretta Lynn stopped writing songs in the 1970's because a contract her husband had negotiated between them and the Wilburn Brothers gave the Brothers the publishing rights to all of Loretta's songs - she tried to get her songs back for 30 years after she broke up her business relationship with the Wilburns, but the courts have ruled against her every time....she doesn't own the publishing rights to any of her songs then, now, or in the future.....so she stopped writing.
