Thursday morning greetings!  I am up early, for no reason other than several things on my mind.  Richard and I have an appointment at 11 with a friend who needs a couple of non-family witnesses to a form he has to sign.  After that I will see what's what at the hospital and go visit my mother.  She has some garage sale stuff for us and will want a report on Aunt Jo.

In that regard, thanks to DRs Laura, FJL, MBarnum, Cillaliz, and Vixmom for the vibes I found this morning!

TOPIC OF THE DAY

Here is a wide selection of choices. Hope you like some of them

FROM THE BARRETT ALBUM

The Skin Of Our Teeth (I'm not sure everyone is familiar with this song)
Quiet Thing (My favorite Kander and Ebb song)
Married/Marry Me
Isn't It Better

LOST IN BOSTON seres
If You Leave Me Now
The Only Game In Town

EMILY SKINNER
The Money Tree

Others
10 Per Cent (Cut from Chicago and if Andy Taylor is available I think he'd be great for this)
All My Friends Have Gone To California
Arthur In The Afternoon (For the young singer? I know the lyrics would be risque but...?)
Coffee In A Cardboard Cup (70 Girls 70)
Colored Lights (The Rink)
Dear One (Kiss Of The Spiderwoman)
The Elephant Song (70 Girls 70)
Everybody's Girl (Steel Pier)
I Don't Remember You/Sometimes a Day Goes By (And The World Goes Round)
The Kid Herelf (Cut song from The Act? or Flora?)
Please Sir (Cut from The Act. Alet might just kill with this song)
Ring Them Bells
So What/ (Cabaret)

I'm Going To Be An Angel (Christmas Song)

Will you do Kander without Ebb?
You might want to consider A Family Affair

Overdone songs in revues
New York New York
Cabaret
Most stuff from Chicago
Maybe This Time
Sara Lee

Good morning, all! I think I had at the most 3-4 hours of sleep. I am quite exhausted, Luckily, my meeting at the McGlinnventory will - I hope -be brief, and I will stop by Toyland to check on things before I head back uptown, where I will most likely lie in a zombie-like state for the remainder of the day.

I have very little else to report. Like the wonderful vixmom, I send prayers and vibes to all the DRs for the safety of themselves and those they love.  I'm happy to hear there was a good crowd for the show at the Gardenia, and next month when our BK frets about audience turnout for Kander & Ebb, we can all thumb our noses at the silly boy. I am happy the show went well, and it sounds like the reluctant performer got his act together. I do love Alet and Andy.

And that leads to the TOD:
I like the full scores to:
      THE HAPPY TIME
CABARET, and the latest published vocal selection contains many cut songs as well
      70 GIRLS 70
      CHICAGO
      ZORBA
I like portions of the scores to:
      FLORA THE RED MENACE
      WOMAN OF THE YEAR
      THE RINK
I didn't much care for whatever title is current for the K&E musicalization of THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH, but there were a couple of good songs: the Fortune Teller's and especially Sabina's lfinal one.

TOD:

There aren't too many Kander and Ebb songs I don't like. These are just a few of the more favorite among favorites:

Hit It, Lorraine
See the Light
Coffee in a Cardboard Cup
Sometimes a Day Goes By
I Don't Remember You
The Happy Time
Let's Hear It for Me
Isn't This Better?
Dear One
Sing Happy
There Goes the Ballgame
Second Chance
Colored Lights
Chief Cook and Bottle Washer
All That Jazz

I have an extra week of vacation to use this year. I already used a day for my Follies trip in DC.

We have two official days for the 4th of July (Monday and Tuesday) so I will take another 3 days that week. I don't know if we will venture anywhere but it will be nice to be out of the office.

I am also going to Michigan in August for a family reunion.

That's the summer for us.

The Kritzerland at the Gardenia 10 show was wonderful last night! I noticed it was a little shorter show than usual, running only 75 minutes, instead of the usual 90, so I was a little disappointed when Bruce said, "And for the last song of the evening...". I kept waiting to hear "You're Nothing Without Me" from "City of Angels" since that can be such a funny song, but Mark reminded me that Bruce is always aiming for the more obscure songs. Still, I was surprised it was omitted, but all the songs chosen were great. I was going to comment that this was the very first Kritzerland at the Gardenia show we attended where no one forgot any lyrics! But now I know the truth - they just covered really well. During, "Hey There Good Times" I kept thinking, wow, that's a lot of lyrics for a little girl to memorize - the song is very fast and very wordy and I kept waiting for her to flub, but she sang the whole thing from beginning to end splendidly, even if she did reverse two verses. I did notice Alet sang, "the WRONG way to play a fool" and I think maybe that was supposed to be "the RIGHT way to play a fool." But she was hilarious nonetheless. Andy Taylor came out wearing very bright blue eye glasses for "Real Live Girl" and I kept staring at them thinking, who would go to the optometrist and choose glasses like that?! But then he wasn't wearing them for the other songs he did, so I realized they were just gag for that particular song. Well, it worked on me - he looked like quite the nerd, and the song was very funny. On the way there, Mark and I were trying to figure out which Target we should stop at on the way home. We have three bathrooms in our house and only one of them had toilet paper. Well, we looked up from the Gardenia marquis and there was the big bullseye logo. So, we were able to walk across the street and buy our much-needed TP, and the weather was still warm for a nice stroll.

The copy service provided by the management of the McGlinnventory office space was pathetic, a really poor job and we have to redo about half the chorus books and several principal books. I am not amused by the incompetency.

I am really nauseous - hope it's not food poisoning, which I really don't need.  And I lost my sunglasses - we were at a place called Pomodoro before the show - I was pretty sure I'd had hooked on the neck of my sweater, but maybe I put 'em on the table.  I called and they haven't found them as of yet.  I also called the Gardenia and asked them to check so we'll see about that - those are the only two possible places.

Ernie passed away late last night.  I will be putting his photo, some flowers, and a card in the lobby tonight.  As per his wish, we will have a Memorial/Celebration at the theatre on Sunday, June 5, at 2 p.m.

Jack, my condolences to you and to his family.

I have an extra week of vacation to use this year. I already used a day for my Follies trip in DC.

For the first time in my 27-year career for the library, I am at our use-it-or-lose-it vacation time limit!  I HAVE to take time off this month.  I've never been there before...at one point, I only had four, count 'em FOUR hours of vacation!  So, two weeks from tomorrow, my friend Margo and I are going to a Seattle Storm women's basketball game (my niece bought tickets and can't go that night) and I'll just take another day off, some other time. ;D

I have no plans (or money) to go anywhere for a real vacation, so I'll just use up the time as I need to.

It looks like I will be getting mail tomorrow (tonight at midnight is when Canada Post workers were supposed to go on strike).

Interestingly, they are still most likely going on strike (if they don't reach a deal by tonight). But they are going to do a rotating strike starting with Winnipeg.

I have the Nudie Musical stuff - five prints and some sort of negative, which is probably the CRI - it's dated 1976 in one of the cans - the cans are really interesting in that they're Italian cans - so maybe at some point they sent this thing off to Italy, although I have never heard of any overseas engagements for this film in foreign-speaking countries.

No and he never even said to go back if i didn't get better.

My sore throat stopped hurting immediately. The drowsiness was from the meds. My sinuses were still hurting. But i've been using the neti-pot every day and now they feel good.

My only problem is that my energy is not that high. It's much better than i was when i was sick.  Just not high enough to do the biking/swimming i'm used to.  I will try to do 20-30 minutes of biking tomorrow if there is no wind.

We have two official days for the 4th of July (Monday and Tuesday) so I will take another 3 days that week. I don't know if we will venture anywhere but it will be nice to be out of the office.

I am also going to Michigan in August for a family reunion.

Still queasy, but maybe a bit less so.  I've just been on the couch like so much fish, watching a very long motion picture.  In an hour or so I'll probably head over to the Gardenia to get my glasses.  Meanwhile, I had a very nice chat with Mr. Robert Harris, the film restoration expert - he's sending me to a lab tomorrow to see what my stuff looks like.  The lab is doing this for free, which is great.

It's still really strange.  We know the water is coming, but it isn't here yet, well there is flooding, but it's hard to imagine the flooding that they say is coming our way.  No one knows exactly what is going to happen.  There are all sorts of crazy rumors spreading like wildfire.  The way they are suddenly shutting off areas to the public and really building levees, dikes and berms or whatever you want to call them, makes me think maybe the news is worse than they first told us.

The two things that they didn't start talking about until today are water table and run off if we keep having rain. One area has been told that they have evacuate by tomorrow, another is being advised to get out because of the water table and at the minimum to get everything out of their basements and move it to a upper level.

This is surreal.  It's also very distracting.  I'm having a terrible time trying to get any work done.  That's why I gave up this afternoon and went on a photo expedition.   I plan to document it all in photos.  I did that when we had a flood at the lake in 1993.  It's fascinating to look back, haven't done that in awhile
