Well, you've read the notes, the notes were nauseating, and now it is time for you to post until the nauseous cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: NICTITATE!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
The weather yesterday was beautiful.
It's supposed to be more of the same today.
Hooray!!!
-
Vibes and Prayers for the family and friends of Ernie Ford
-
Vibes and Prayers for Ginny's Aunt Jo and family
-
VIBES and Prayers for the good people of Iowa, Joplin, Mo, Springfield, Mass, the Dakotas and everywhere elsepeople are suffering from natural (and man made) disasters
-
Good morning, all.
-
I now have two days of readings I'll have to catch up on -- later.
Until this, vibes for all in need.
-
TOD:
DVD -- The last two episodes of Ken Burns' Jazz series.
CD -- Cole Porter in the 1930s box sex
Car CD: Disc 6 of 7 of "The Sound and the Fury."
-
Off to work.
-
Tonight there's a dinner in Austin for a culinary competition I helped judge. I was part of the first panel, which narrowed 40 entries down to five. The final judge panel included Jacques Pepin, and I hope I get to meet him tonight. That would be fun.
-
Friday morning greetings! I was up early to see Rob off. He's taking his huge final paramedic exam today and then driving to Michigan to go camping with Mary Linda's family.

TOD:

Is Disc 6 The Sound or The Fury or Both?
And what exacly is The Sound and The Fury
-
I am off to Orlando for the weekend so no film viewing for the weekend.
Music: Academy Award Winning and/or Nominated Songs.
-
And all sorts OF VIBES for anyone who needs them.
-
Good morning, all! I caught up on my sleep last night, although I had a huge dream that I was trying to buy tickets for my mother to see Patti Lupone in ANYTHING GOES, so I guess I was stuck somewhere around 1988 in my thoughts.
Today, I have more Victor Herbert work on EILEEN. My goddaughter Charlotte opens tonight in a show I really detest, FALSETTOLAND, at her old high school's summer theatre alumni program. I have no money at the moment, but if the invoice check arrives today, I will see it tonight. Much as I socially like Mr William Finn, I have liked very little of his work, particularly the three Falsetto musicals, whose charm eludes me and whose lyrics I find particularly poor. Still, for Charlotte's sake, I am willing to risk my mental health.
I have no other news at the moment, so let's head to the TOD:
DVD: DUCHESS OF DUKE STREET, LOUISIANA PURCHASE
CD: unreleased Victor Herbert, Guy Haines, Liz Callaway, Rebecca Luker, Jacques Offenbach, Camelot
VCR: Smut

Thank you, DR Vixmom - there is great strain in her immediate and extended family right now.
-
Mucho macho vibes for all.
-
Sarah Palin just bought a house in my town. Luckily, she will be in the rich part of town while I will be in the poor part of town. So I doubt I'll run across her in the Smitty's parking lot.
-
TOD:
As of this morning, I have nothing new to watch for the weekend.
In fact, all this week I've been watching films that I have in my library that I haven't seen for years (e.g. BOWFINGER w/Steve Martin & Eddie Murphy, DEATHTRAP w/Michael Caine & Christopher Reeves).
Enjoyed them both very much.
Maybe something will come in the mail today or tomorrow.
-
Thanks to all for the vibes for THE MUSIC MAN and Ernie & his family!
We did have a sensational SOLD OUT opening night....much fun!
And my sister gave me the day off work! So I am enjoying a leisurely Friday morning.
-
DR CILLA LIZ thanks for your posts on your local situation - it is much more real for me reading PERSONAL posts about it than hearing about it on the news.

Here is Ernie's obit in the local paper for those who wish to read it.

Speaking of Ms Palin......I still don't understand her popularity - she is the Kim Kardashian of politics. :P

I was *just* thinking of DEATHTRAP the other day as I watched the new Criterion BD of DIABOLIQUE. BK, did you ever ask Ira about the similarities between the two?
-
TOD:
DVD - She Devil, this is an addicting movie
CD - London CAMELOT - I added the Broadway Guenevere to it because I missed the song so much.
-
Here is Owen - who says "Good morning, Mayor Shinn" and walks around behind everybody, picking up the props they leave in the wrong place - and puts on his band uniform during the intermission so he will be ready for his last scene in the show. ;D
-
TOD:
CD:
A homemade CDr of summer music from DR Jrand.
DVR:
Episodes of THE GEORGE BURNS AND GRACIE ALLEN SHOW which airs daily on The Antenna Network (check your cable listings for channel and time)

You could do a compilation and add as well the Broadway version of "The Lusty Month of May" and the Parade music based on "The Jousts." I'm sorry no one ever recorded "The Persuasion."
-
...and I tell ya, that Burns and Allen just crack me up!
I always liked them, too!

The Profiles in History catalog of Debbie Reynolds costumes and props being auctioned is absolutely unbelievable.
JR, for a mere several thousand you, too, can own costumes from the 1953 TITANIC or even several things Lucy wore in THE LONG, LONG TRAILER.

I'm up and still feel a little queasy.
-
Glad to hear the opening night went well. One Grecian Urn.
-
There will be very big guns bidding on the Reynolds auction. There is much criticism going around that one of the super rich show biz folks like George Lucas or Steven Spielberg didn't just write her a check and then figure out how to finally open a museum. It would be chump change to either gentleman.
-
Feel better vibes to BK and to DR TCB! Speaking of back pain, I have been taking it easy today with the heating pad on my back. I think all my sorting, laundering, packing, and transporting garage sale items took a toll...

Is it a need for cash that is making Debbie sell all these artifacts? Isn't there anyone who could step with the money needed for a Hollywood Museum?

Thank you for the answer BK. Such a shame that this entire collection will be scattered to the four corners of the globe. I always liked that phrase: the four corners of the globe

Kevorkian really is Dr. Death now.
-
Betsy and I saw the headline this morning and simultaneously asked, "Did he kill himself?"
-
I'm not sure why, but I have been getting actual hard copies of the Profiles in History auction catalogs for years. They must spend tens of thousands each time just on publishing these--several hundred pages, all glossy, every page filled with photos. The only problem is they don't ever have indexes. They no doubt want you to pore through each and every page.
-
No doubt.
-
I think I feel more nauseous than I did yesterday. Just back from storage with the reels, but I was really feeling like I was going to fall over and throw up on the ground.
-
Some of the items are projected to go for several hundred thousand, including Marilyn Monroe's red sequin dress from GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES.
-
Some cool stuff from the first two weeks of filming of WIZARD OF OZ, before they changed all the costumes.
-
Friday morning greetings! I was up early to see Rob off. He's taking his huge final paramedic exam today and then driving to Michigan to go camping with Mary Linda's family.

MEGA VIBES FOR DR TCB!!!
Since you live alone do you have anyone, with a key to your place, that checks you are ok on a daily basis?
With your concerns about falling have you considered getting one of those bracelets you can use to call for help. You would only need to wear it at home.
I worry about you.

Good. My aunt had a bad fall & it was close to 24 hours before my uncle called to check up on her & then get to her when she didn't answer the phone. After that she got a bracelet. Does the phone next to your bed have numbers programmed like a cell phone?

Just been on the couch resting - and watched some hideous motion picture I'd TIVOd - TV movie called Lucy about Lucy and Desi. Rachel York and some of the worst casting choices I've ever seen in one film. You know you're in trouble when they tell you that Eddie Cantor is directing and starring in Roman Scandals. How hard is it to use the handy-dandy imdb or go to the library to see that the director was Frank Tuttle? How HARD? And Rachel York, whatever one thinks of her, is not a patch on the butt cheeks of Miss Ball.

I saw this when it was first broadcast and was .... well pretty much horrified by the whole thing... Rachel York being one of the things that horrified me....it also seems to me that at least once in "1956" - they drove away from Desilu in a 1958 Lincoln.

The inaccuracies in Lucy are appalling. Just one after another for no reason whatsoever, certainly not for dramatic license purposes - it's just lazy, stupid writing and of the five or six listed producers not ONE of them questioned ANY of the errors? That's more appalling than anything.

My check arrived so I have money and I can do what I do for love: see my beloved goddaughter in a musical I would rather face torture than attend tonight.

I shall now be on my way to the mail place and then to the lab.

When You reviewed The Blu-ray of Once Upon A Time In The West did youwatch The Restored or The Theatrical Version or Both? Which is Better In Your Opinion?
-
Off to get some dinner and fresh air - bye for now!
-
i had a nice walk & returned home just as it began raining. poor keith is still mowing the lawn which i thing needed at least 3 mows with all the rain we have been having.

I'm off to the Bronx now. Shoot me, someone.

I'm off to the Bronx now. Shoot me, someone.
Bang!
::)
-
I watched the long version - which is only one minute longer - there's really no difference save for, I think three shots. The quality is exactly the same as the disc is seamlessly branched.
-
Back from the lab - they put up reel one and, according to them (I know nothing about this stuff), the news is heartening and it looks like the CRI has at least a goodly amount of its color left (how they tell this I have no idea) - CRIs are notorious for fading, but they seemed to think we would be in good shape, and the CRI itself seemed to be in good shape - there are a few scratches here and there that we'll be able to deal with during the transfer - but overall it's 1000% better than the prints we used for the DVD. So, I will deliver the elements to the lab that's actually going to do the transfer on Monday.
-
And I am still really queasy.

Not great news, BK. :-X

Or you could go see your one true love, Victoria Clark in SISTER ACT!

And I am still really queasy.
That does not sound good, BK. What have you eaten today? Are you sure you aren't pregnant? Are you running a fever?

I will be happy to do the exclusive interview, JMK. We can have a lot of fun.
-
I think this nausea stems from the late-night meal at Little Toni's - and it's not the first time, so as much as I like it there, I shan't be going back. I really don't think I'll be able to eat anything today.

Did you try taking something like Pepcid AC? Not Tums, but a real medicine.

The Profiles in History catalog of Debbie Reynolds costumes and props being auctioned is absolutely unbelievable.
JR, for a mere several thousand you, too, can own costumes from the 1953 TITANIC or even several things Lucy wore in THE LONG, LONG TRAILER.
I remember two things about watching TITANIC on Saturday Night at the Movies (10/7/1961); well three if you count Robert Wagner's good looks. One is that incredible coat that Barbara Stanwyck wears the last night onboard ship and in the lifeboat (Norman! Norman! Oh my God, Norman!"). The other is the underwater shot of the Titanic colliding with the iceberg. The shot in the film shows the ship being struck on the port side. Even then, at age 11, I knew that the ship was struck on the starboard side.
I wonder if that coat is for sale in the auction?

And with all the versions that have been released of that film, no one has ever gone in and reversed that shot!

So, I have a question for the technological people:
If you happen fall into the water, what's the best thing to do for the cell phone in your pocket?

So, I have a question for the technological people:
If you happen fall into the water, what's the best thing to do for the cell phone in your pocket?
Take off the battery and dry it off as best as you can, and then put it in a bowl of dry, uncooked rice. I've been told that that really dries out phones very well. Most (but not all) of my friends who've done this, said that their phones were able to work. I have no idea how long you should keep it in the rice, though. Good luck!

There is a very good reason why AOL News has not become the world's most watched news station. Case in point, this headline:
Ferris Wheel Fall Leaves Girl Dead!
-
DR Laura-wonderful photos. Might the first one be of a turtle pond?
-
I took the battery out and put it out on the patio, where it is warm (95 degrees) and dry. I'll put it in rice overnight, I guess. I wonder if it will be safe to turn it back on in the morning?
-
We went to Mesquite Wash, which is just north of Phoenix. No turtles, but we found a lot of little frogs and tadpoles.

DS Rob was told yesterday that they have 3 chances to pass the exam he took today and that only 30% pass it the first time, but by the 3rd time 95% will have passed. Unfortunately, tonight Rob is NOT in the 30%, so more vibes will be needed a week from today.

Richard and I went out for Skyline Chili and frozen yogurt and decided on the way home to go to the First Friday open house at our community's new Pendleton Art Center (http://www.pendletonartcenter.com/middletown_oh.html). We watched our friend Sam doing woodcut prints and I talked to a young woman who teaches collage and other paper crafts. I may take a class from her.
-
DR Ginny i am shocked! is it that the courses don't prepare the students properly? Are there on-line exams he can take from now until next week?
-
DR Jane - we're trying not to panic here. He knows which areas were his weakest and will concentrate on those for the next week.

Thanks for today's update, DR Cillaliz. Stay safe!

Consider it dead and get a new one. Remember when I dropped mine in the boiling spaghetti water?

I have returned from FALSETTOLAND. The singing from most of the cast could have been better, but the direction was good, the musical director a fantastic pianist, and all were solid on their harmonies. Unfortunately I feel the piece, like MARCH OF THE FALSETTOS, is a meretricious, sloppy, lousy, stupid piece of theatre whose success still amazes me. The lyrics are terrible, as if he pulled any first rhyme that came to his mind, whether it fit the character, the situation, or even sense; and the whole thing seems to me to be a piece of sentimental stupidity pandering to a primarily Jewish middle class audience watching "safe" gay couples be very safely middle class, dealing as cutely as possible with a bar mitzvah in the hospital room of the person dying from AIDS. When my goddaughter Charlotte, as the doctor, sings "Something bad is happening" and that's the shallow depth of commentary on AIDS and its victims in this horror, I wanted to react like the doctor in the brilliant, angry, and much more honest AIDS play, THE NORMAL HEART, and throw the medical records of the 100+ friends I've seen die of AIDS at the stage. Thoroughly repellent!
I still blame Frank Rich for promoting this twaddle and calling the author the next Sondheim. This author didn't write anything good until THE PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE.

You are amazing. Now that I've been paid, I'm sending my check tomorrow.

Good Evening!
Greetings from Fairfax, Virginia!
-
The bus ride down was relatively uneventful. There were a few traffic snarls along the way, and we did end getting in about 30 minutes late, but it was a nice day for a bus ride and/or taking a nap on a bus. ;)
-
Once I got into Union Station, I hopped on the Metro out to my brother's office in Arlington. Then we dropped off my stuff at his place before heading over to visit his daughter, Alexandra, who was over at her mother's house. When we got there, I was greeted at the door by Bentley and Holly. Bentley is a dachshund, and Holly is a golden retriever. :)
-
We ended up joining Alex for dinner - pizza! I also got to spend time with Alex's brother and sister, Mason and Elena. And Alex's best friend - they went to a movie later. And the dogs. In other words, I needed a nap after dinner. ;)

~~~~~EASE OF PAIN VIBES TO DR TCB~~~~~
-
I took the battery out and put it out on the patio, where it is warm (95 degrees) and dry. I'll put it in rice overnight, I guess. I wonder if it will be safe to turn it back on in the morning?
DR Laura - You can try to turn the phone on now. If it's dead, it's dead - and it won't do anything, won't shock you. If it doesn't turn on - or if it turns on "weak", put in back in the rice. In the morning, try to turn it on again. If it doesn't turn on, connect it to the charging cord, then try again.
-
And...
Today is mom's birthday. -Happy Birthday, Mom!
I believe we - my brothers and their kids and myself - will be heading down to Richmond tomorrow or on Sunday for a proper birthday dinner.
Just been on the couch resting - and watched some hideous motion picture I'd TIVOd - TV movie called Lucy about Lucy and Desi. Rachel York and some of the worst casting choices I've ever seen in one film. You know you're in trouble when they tell you that Eddie Cantor is directing and starring in Roman Scandals. How hard is it to use the handy-dandy imdb or go to the library to see that the director was Frank Tuttle? How HARD? And Rachel York, whatever one thinks of her, is not a patch on the butt cheeks of Miss Ball.
I saw this when it was first broadcast and was .... well pretty much horrified by the whole thing... Rachel York being one of the things that horrified me....it also seems to me that at least once in "1956" - they drove away from Desilu in a 1958 Lincoln.
DR JRand - Are you familiar with An Evening With Lucille Ball: "Thank You For Asking" (http://www.aneveningwithlucilleball.com/) which stars Suzanne LaRusch and is directed by Lucie Arnaz? It's part of this summer's line-up at the Cape Playhouse (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/151465-Cape-Playhouse-Casts-Patricia-Richardson-Joel-Higgins-Dee-Hoty-Josh-Grisetti-and-Bradley-Dean-for-Summer).
In totally random news...
A friend of mine tipped me off to this website which offers some pretty nice retro-ish prescription eyeglasses for just $95/pair*: Warby Parker (http://www.warbyparker.com/). They even offer a Free Home Try-On (http://www.warbyparker.com/Home-Try-On) program where you can order five different frames to try on at home for five days before you buy.
*And that includes the frames and the lenses. For higher indexes, there's an additional $30 charge.
-
And other sort of random news...
Another friend of mine unearthed these videos that accompanied Cleo Laine's Sondheim album:
Everybody Says Don't (http://youtu.be/o9ujCUC-x2A)
Losing My Mind (http://youtu.be/ZE-VtdXYRAY)
-I had no idea these existed. Alas, they're quite, well... literal. ::)
-
DR Jose, is this your official move to DC for the duration or are you returning to NYC next week?
-
And just to properly close this thread(?), here's Dorothy Collins on "The David Frost Show" singing "Losing My Mind" (http://www.bluegobo.com/index.php?var=10347).
-
DR Jose, is this your official move to DC for the duration or are you returning to NYC next week?
DR elmore - I'll be back next Monday night. I will head down for the duration the following Monday, June 13.
-
And...
I'm sleepy.
Goodnight.
A year or so ago I told of Suzanne finding me on Facebook - we went out to lunch at Mo's. She was in a show of mine at the Morgan Theater back in 1974 (I talk about it in the book) - I had no idea she was doing the Lucy thing, and she's really good - has the voice, mannerisms, and look down perfectly. I think there are clips on You Tube.
-
We worked for about three hours on Barbara's book and it's basically designed (Grant had done all the preliminary stuff before) - it looks very good and now we'll proof and make fixes next week and put the puppy to bed.
-
We all then went to Hamburger Hamlet - I was VERY nervous about eating anything, but also very weak from not eating for over twenty-four hours. I was feeling a little bit less queasy, so I took Barbara's advice and had the rotisserie chicken and it was very good and I was so hungry I ate it all up. So, hopefully I won't regret it.
-
I am super queasy again - not good.
-
Welcome twelve GUESTS. Nobody here but us nauseous chickens.
