Well, you've read the notes, the notes were fruity, and now it is time for you to post until the fruity cows come home.

Mardi morning greetings from rainy Reims!  Have I mentioned that I have a head cold?  Richard thinks I should stay in today, but I really want to visit Mumm & Co. to see how they make champagne.  We have a few hours to decide...

We are checked in for tomorrow's flight and our boarding passes are printed.  The hotel computers, which I had to use in order to print, have French keyboards, requiring me to hunt and peck.  Ana was most helpful again today  :)

Bonjour, DR Jose - you're up early!
Title: Re: FRUITFUL

So...

My bus arrived at Union Station around 12:15pm yesterday. I then made my way to Columbia Heights to meet with my conductor for Boys. We went over the schedule for the first few days of rehearsal, then played through the show just to check on some the changes, transpositions, etc. We had allotted four hours for that. It only ended up taking two. Then I hopped on the Metro back out to Virginia Square where my brother works. We went to dinner, then back to his place. That's when I decided to take a nap. Well... When I woke up the first time, it was around 7:30pm. When I woke up the second time it was already 1:30am. So...

I woke up about an hour ago, and have been catching up on emails, printing out music, going over some details for today, as well as trying to decide whether I want to drive in or take the Metro today.

DR Ginny - Did you purchase some sort of "internet package" on your cruise? It's been great hearing about all of your travels and seeing all of your pictures, but I know that accessing the interwebs while traveling can be quite not the bargain.

Bonjour, DR Ginny - I hope your headcold goes away in time so that you can properly "experience" the Champagne later. :)

DR Jose - our Paris hotel, the boat, and our Reims hotel all provide "free" wi-fi.  It was very wonky in Paris, sporadic on the boat, and here it's working pretty well.  We've decided for our next international trip, we'll definitely have an iPad.  We've done all right sharing my MacBook, but it gets pretty heave for Richard to carry on trains and planes.

Well, it was worth about what we paid for it  ;)

To be fair, the locks caused a lot of interference and we had 53 of them.  When it worked, it worked well, but you could get cut off pretty abruptly and often.

As for the Baz Luhrmann's upcoming adaptation of "The Great Gatsby", well...

I, too, think that this is a good fit for Leonardo DiCaprio. However, I'm most interested and excited in Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, and Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway.

Some further explanation for DR Jane and others who asked about the mandelballen that Richard and I shared in Rothenberg.  It's a variety of the famous schneeballen (snowball) and starts out with dough rolled  flat and cut into strips:

Title: Re: FRUITFUL
Post by: Ginny on October 25, 2011, 02:51:40 AM
She then wads the dough up and puts it into this contraption:

Title: Re: FRUITFUL

The contraption is dipped into hot oil to fry the pastry and then various toppings are applied.  Ours was coated with chocolate and almonds.

Good morning, all! I slept well. I slept late, and I'm back to work on Appalachian themes.

DR TCB, there's only one boy in the cast of ONCE UPON A TIME, we saw Pinocchio in the fantasy world, so who else can the Mayor's adopted son be? I forget: he's Emma Swan's kid. Of course, we haven't seen any of the seven dwarves yet in Storybrooke, not to mention Cinderella and others. Who knows?

DR Jose, tell Ben Davis hello for me! Is the other Anripholus his brother? They have the same last name.

DR Ginny, when do you arrive back in Ohio? Did you ever see my post about Roy Barton?

Last night I finally finished the Wendy Wasserstein bio that has been my train commuting book for the past month and I have to admit that I get very teary at the end.  Wasserstein did not die peacably and she left her daughter in the care of a family that itself would soon be broken.  Still, I enjoyed reading about this playwright's life and her work.  Now I need to get a copy of her final work, THIRD, which I never read.

I've been going to the dentist since June 29th. I'm almost done. I have 3 or 4 more visits. I have had 3 root canals, I have 2 new crowns and will have a 3rd when it's over and I've had two ancient fillings (30 to 40 years old) replaced. It's all been done by the New York University School of Dentistry.

I went to the Oregon Health Sciences University dental school to have a wisdom tooth removed years and years ago.  First off, they turned on the nitrous and then left the room, forgetting they had done that.  That wasn't so bad (LOL), but the student could not get my wisdom tooth out, and the Dean had to come in and use a chisel or something to break the tooth up and remove it.  They ended up leaving shards of my tooth embedded in my gum which took weeks to work themselves out.

I had been going to the same dentist since I was 12 years old. A couple of years before he planned to retire, he brought in a young dentist, and they worked together for quite some time. So when my dentist did retire, I was okay with the new one because the retiring one was confident in the new one. I will not go anywhere else.

The only dental work I've needed is five (yes five) wisdom teeth removed and one crown to fix a broken tooth, plus some fillings. My dental hygienist makes sure things are healthy every six months.

Last night I watched the restored LOST HORIZON.

I decided to just NOT think about the songs that I don't like and follow the story.

I like the book and I very much like the original movie.  So the story is there.  I guess I just think that the tone/type of the songs do not fit the story.....maybe a more generic type of "Broadway" or "musical" songs would have worked better.  The story just doesn't need songs.

I also finally decided that Finch and Ullman are terrific actors, but not necessarily for these parts.  Liv was beautiful in some of her Swedish movies, but here she seems sort of plain....and Finch seems a bit old....not for the part, but for the feelings he says he is experiencing......and he isn't photographed to any advantage either.

The movie is pretty - in a kind of 1970's California resort kind of way....and the clothes are okay....

The extras with Ross Hunter are interesting.  I guess my favorite song is the title song.

A quote from Hunter on IMDB that I have never read before: In a 1975 magazine interview with Rona Barrett, producer Ross Hunter acknowledged the failure of his film. "When we hired Bacharach and David to write the songs, we didn't know they were on the verge of dissolving their partnership. When they finally delivered the music, we were already deep into preproduction. We knew it was a bum score, but we couldn't do anything about it."

Too bad he didn't just do a non-musical remake of the original film - which might have been pretty good!

It seems likely that DS Zach will be participating in a Chinese exchange program where we will have a Chinese student live with us in February for a couple of weeks and then Zach will go live with his family next summer.

Congrats to Zach! :D

I've been going to the same dentist since I was 10.  As far as I know, he's not retiring anytime soon.  I've had various dental hygienists over the years and for the most part, they've all been very good.

The only dental work that I've needed (other than having three molars removed, which someone else did), is five fillings.  I got them all before I finished high school.  I haven't had any since.  They've each been replaced with the white stuff (I can never remember what it's called) so it doesn't look like I have any fillings. ;D

I'm back in the Dentist Chair this evening at 6pm. The new crown is ready. Only one more tooth to work on after that. I need prep work for the crown which may take two or three visits, then the impression and then the installation of the crown.

When it's over I will have spent enough to buy a 3-D television.

This morning, I had a sinus lift.

Yes, a sinus lift.

It was costly (dental insurance didn't cover it), but it's necessary for two implants that I pledged myself I'd get this year.  It will be next year, though, as six months have to pass before any more work can be done.

I was given no pain.   But...I may not blow my nose for two weeks.  If I sneeze, I must do it open-mouthed.  For two weeks.

It seems the actual sinus membrane was lifted and now needs time to settle in and get over the shock of being lifted.

I need to be in stasis for two weeks.  Not a day has gone by in eons that I haven't blown my nose or sneezed.

Should be an interesting two weeks.

Procedure took two-plus hours.  There was lots of cutting and grinding.

I felt nothing but the movement of instruments inside my mouth.

I created a safe place for my thoughts which simply contemplated what might be happening in my mouth.  I never want this procedure again.

That said, I'm fine, resting comfortably, and have a comfortable supply of antibiotics and pain killers.

That is all.

On the other hand, I have a new favorite Indian actor.

His name is Diganth, and he makes Kannada language films (known as Sandalwood).

Here are two nice shots of him with different looks:

Here is the clean-cut Diganth:

and here is the more scruffy Diganth:

I went to the Oregon Health Sciences University dental school to have a wisdom tooth removed years and years ago.  First off, they turned on the nitrous and then left the room, forgetting they had done that.  That wasn't so bad (LOL), but the student could not get my wisdom tooth out, and the Dean had to come in and use a chisel or something to break the tooth up and remove it.  They ended up leaving shards of my tooth embedded in my gum which took weeks to work themselves out.

Sounds horrible.  At least the shards didn't have to be removed surgically.

Back from my meeting and deal is done.  Kritzerland will be releasing its first newish Broadway show (albeit one that closed in June) The People In The Picture, starring Donna Murphy, with music by Mike Stoller and Artie Butler, and lyrics by Iris Rainer Dart.  Very excited to be doing this and it's on the very fast track for a December release.  This was originally coming on a different label, but they parted ways a few months ago - and when I heard how this label does things and the charges they make (believe me they pay for NOTHING - the authors paid for everything, and would have paid for printing, pressing and everything else), fees for all manner of pointless things - which is, I think, how they stay in business.  Well, that's just disgusting to me and if you heard the outrageous charges it would be disgusting to you.  It certainly was disgusting to the authors, who are very happy to be doing this with Kritzerland, who charges no fees like those as we really have no employees.

I'm back in the Dentist Chair this evening at 6pm. The new crown is ready. Only one more tooth to work on after that. I need prep work for the crown which may take two or three visits, then the impression and then the installation of the crown.

When it's over I will have spent enough to buy a 3-D television.

I understand completely! I think it's time to make an appointment.  I miss my crazy Russian dentist Zhanna.

I have a very quiet but nice and good East Indian dentist, Dr. Najeeb.

Does he break into a song and dance in the middle of the procedure?

On the other hand, I have a new favorite Indian actor.

His name is Diganth, and he makes Kannada language films (known as Sandalwood).

Diganth has loads of charm and I expect big things from him.

But what you find to talk about together?

There's a place called "Chip Shop" in Brooklyn.  They offer some pretty authentic fish and chips and other English pub fare: curries, mushy peas, chip buttys, and deep-fried candy bars. *They're also (in)famous for letting customers bring any other food item to be battered and deep-fried. Deep-fried pizza slices, however, are no longer allowed. ::)

Sounds great. You can't beat a high cholestoral chip butty. I used to eat lots of them when I was in the North of England - where they eat little else!

DR Jane, not sure about the casting for HIDE especially the lead. I'd have to see her.

I think she has the talent to play DD, however I'm not sure she looks good as a blond.  I had to look up DD's age too to find she is 38 in the fourth book, making the actress close enough in age (a few years older).  I can't find a description of Bobby & thought he was about the same age as DD.  Do you remember what he looks like?

We shall see.

And since some people in the show had either done the show before or had learned all their music in NYC, some of the teaching sessions consisted of a sing-thru or two of their song and that was it.

*And at the Chip Shop they even serve a Deep-Fried Chip Butty. In other words, a Deep-Fried Carb Sandwich.

He was born in Sagara, Karnataka. Diganth completed his schooling in Seva Bharathi and Pre-University in Tunga Mahavidyalaya, Thirthahalli where his father, Mr. Krishnamurthy, taught as a professor. Career
He was introduced to Kannada films by the movie, Miss California and later in the Kanglish flick, "SMS 6260", but shot into limelight with his role in the film Mungaru Male. Later, he starred in a blockbuster movie titled Gaalipata. After Gaalipata's success, Diganth starred in five movies in the lead role. His latest movie Manasaare as a solo hero went on to be a hit and put him in the big league. It also brought him some critical appreciation.Pancharangi too was a hit, well known for its dialogues.

Does anyone know if this news has already been posted on BWW or All That Chat?

Finished with all manner of things.  I don't know where the day went.  I got quite a bit further in the commentary writing, so that's good.  We had our first rehearsal - rough as always, but how wonderful to hear these great singers singing my songs.  Guy Haines even showed up to rehearse.  My voice is a little ragged right now and I have to be very careful.  Part of the problem stems from my many visits to Jerry's Deli in the last couple of days - I'm not sure why they would do it but it's been about forty degrees in there - just freezing and I think it finally got to me today when I was having my sandwich and onion rings.  So, I must be very careful and either wear a jacket or stay away for a bit.

Robert Harris has been trying to get the HTF reviewer to be less obtuse, and he did make a couple of changes, which, in one case, actually sounds even worse, even though he really means the opposite of what he wrote.  I think Mr. Harris will either ultimately post in that thread, or try to get me reinstated there so I can.
