Well, you've read the notes, the notes' point was taken, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're point was taken, too, and they're trying to find it.

Good morning, all! I've been up since 6am, pondering Appalachian charts, and that will occupy most of my day. I have very little else to report at this time, so I'll get to work.

Good morning, all.

The allergens seem to be heavy, heavy, heavy this morning.
But we've had enough rain recently to have me arrange for the lawn to be cut. I hope I've left for work before he gets here.

TOD:
My favourite Ray Harryhausen film? No doubt about it - The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. I saw the film when it was first released when I was 12 years old. I entreated my father to take me and he enjoyed it as much as me. The special effects seemed amazing and I recall that after seeing it we speculated on how they were done. We both knew about superimposition (my father made 9.5mm films) but couldn’t figure how it was possible to see the live action through the bones of the skeleton. I still think it’s the best of Harryhausen’s films – everything came together; effects, story, acting (Kerwin Matthews was perfect as Sinbad) and music.

Thursday morning greetings! We crashed last night about 7:30, so of course I woke up after a refreshing 9-hour sleep at 4:30am. Richard followed about 5, and we had a nice oatmeal breakfast then cleaned out our practically-empty refrigerator. That's a huge job that we hadn't done since Hurricane Ike roared through here 3 years ago, so it was time. Now I can go grocery shopping without a list, because we need everything!
-
Thanks, again, for all the welcomes home that I found from last night. It's good to be back!
-
We will probably crash for naps after while...

I was awakened at 5:36 a.m. by a 3.6 earthquake.
Sigh.
I'm hoping these light-to-moderate quakes indicate that stress is being relieved in the Hayward fault...possibly alleviating the possibility of a major quake.
But....I have no idea if things work that way.

Returning to work this morning.
Pain is under control (i.e. being averted).
Right side of my face is puffed considerably. I was told that this would happen and that yesterday and today would be the worst of it.
Sigh.
DR JoseSPiano: You asked me what "kind" of implants I'd be getting. I don't know how to answer that. I have the back molar on the upper right side. The replacement/implanted teeth will be implanted in the area on the left of that upper molar. One of them was crowned by a previous dental establishment. Within six months of that crowning, an abscess occurred. It was so painful I insisted it be pulled. It was the last time I went to that dental establishment. That was the tooth next to the back molar. A year or so back, the tooth next to that "gap" broke at the root.
It's hell getting older.
Sigh.

DR Jane, I won't know my place for CATCH ME until the book comes out :(
Reading your post for some reason reminded me a question my mom asked me yesterday. She asked if i could remember the name of an author that her and I both read. That might have been a mystery. And that the same character was in all the books.
I asked her if she had anything more to go on than that. But she didn't. :)

I finally got to watch THE CREATURE WASN'T NICE (aka: NAKED SPACE) the other day.
BK gifted me with a DVD when we were in Chicago together earlier this month.
Despite BK's reservations, this is a very funny movie. My wife and I were laughing all the way through it.
If you've never had a chance to see it, try to get a copy. It's a shame that the film has not had better circulation.

Harryhausen fans may be interested to know that niche label Legend Films has released two of Ray's early (as in 1930s) pieces on Blu. I haven't gotten my screener yet, but my review should be up sometime in the next week.

When I arrived at work, I had a number of packages awaiting me, all of which were expected. And then there was one that puzzled me. It was large, it was heavy and it was from a person I do not know. WHAT could it be? It was well-wrapped and took a great deal of effort to open.
After much unwinding of bubble wrap, I found another box. GEEZ! I thought.
But on the side of the box were words that brought all into focus:
It was la cocotte à pommes Anna that I had ordered a week or so back. The outer box had been marked EXTREMELY FRAGILE, so I thought it was something that would easily break.
The cocotte is heavy copper and it's gorgeous. I don't know how long I'll be able to hold out trying it out. I could eat some potatoes Anna even using only the left side of my mouth. But I want to savor the dish, as well.

As much as I love Bollywood, I also love Lollywood (the Pakistani film industry). Pakistan has been releasing some amazing films of late....including this one titled BOL which is about a family who have a child born a hermaphrodite and how they struggle to make sure the child grows up in a healthy and safe environment.
The trailer looks quite good and I think I shall pick up the DVD.

Ooh-Ooh!
Yesterday afternoon, I watched two movies procured through Warner Archives.
One was "Eye of the Devil", a Martin Ranshohoff film originally titled "13." It was the film debut of Sharon Tate. It featured David Hemmings ("That 'Blow-Up' guy" as the ads promoted him). They were a brother and sister who had hunting rights on an ancient estate...she was a witch and he was a mystical archer who shot doves all over the place. Neither contributed anything to the film, IMO, except young blondeness and sultry leers on their faces...and she was obnoxiously photographed throughout the film as though she were vital to the proceedings, but she never was at all. It was never explained why they had the run of the chateau or why they could come and go as they pleased saying whatever they pleased. They were both awful.
I felt terrible for Deborah Kerr, David Niven and Flora Robson. David Mulhare probably should have known better, too. It had an interesting score by Gary McFarland, but it was not enough to save the proceedings. The movie is a bleednig bore. To me.
The other was even worse, IMO: "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" with Kim Darby and Jim Hutton. Hutton was -- frankly -- mindnumbingly bad. He looks pissed off throughout the film, and he never evidences any sort of affection for his wife played by Darby as a somnambulistic hausfrau. It is filled with male chauvinist pig dialogue on Hutton's behalf...and even on the behalf of William Demarest playing a very bossy handyman who gives Darby orders. The film moves along at a snail's pace and never develops any terror.
Warner Archives indicated it was a cult classic. Oh, dear.
Then again, maybe it was the painkillers that made the films seem the gigantic waste of time I felt they were.

The story;
I was in my backyard and I heard a noise. I looked into the garbage pail and saw a squirrel waist deep in water. I took pity, ran inside, got some plastic gloves, and reached in to rescue the forsaken animal. It went well until he was an inch from the ground I was lowering him too- then he bit me.
I can now say that that was the worst pain I have felt in a while- like my finger was trapped in a door or a clamp or something. I shook him off, ran inside yelling "A squirrel bit me!" and found that I had two small puncture oles on my finger and a scratch on my hand, only one hole was actually bleeding though.
The next few hours were spent at the emergency room. =_= I'd been home from Philidelphia less then an hour, and had already disrupted the entire day and caused a mass panic among my family and a few friends.
oops.
Of course, tipping the bin over never occured to me until five people asked me why I didn't do it. Oh well. Hopefully I won't be taking the medicine for forever. ^^"
But I may turn into a were- squirrel next full moon. >> <<

You know, in my home state of Kentucky, we eats our squirrel meat in a stew called burgoo. The mainstream version uses lamb instead.
But squirrel brains are a delicacy in other parts of the state. I remember reading this book, "Noodling for Flatheads," in which a man was talking about how he would rather die than give up squirrel brains and I felt so proud of my homeland.
So, eat your squirrels, brains and all.

Back from all sorts of things. I recorded what I had to record, I picked up the Chitty booklets that Mr. Sherman will be signing, I had a sandwich and a small piece of sweet potato pie, and then came home (no mail or packages today). Mr. Jason Graae just stopped by to pick up some sheet music. And I think that's all I have to do today!

In other news, the HARRYHAUSEN double feature arrived, and it is NOT a Harryhausen double feature. It is in fact She and Things to Come, which have been COLORIZED with Harryhausen's input. Just got back from London’s Barbican Concert Hall where Richard Kaufman conducted the London Symphony Orchestra in a wonderful programme of Dimitri Tiomkin’s music. Highlights included The Alamo, Guns of Navarone, Land of the Pharaohs, Search for Paradise etc. Vocalists Whitney Claire Kaufman and Andrew Playfoot sang several of Tiomkin’s theme songs. A nice touch was Richard Kaufman holding up Tiomkin’s original Oscars to the audience, prior to conducting the music which won each Oscar. By the end of the concert all four of Tiomkin’s Oscars were lined up on stage! Kaufman gave thanks to Tiomkin’s widow Olivia who was present in the audience and who had done much to make the concert a reality. The concert was recorded for future release on CD.

I asked her if she had anything more to go on than that. But she didn't. :)
If you don't know your place for CATCH ME how can you make sure they don't skip you again ;)
As for your mother's question ;D. I guess it was worth a try you might have guessed it.
You can't make sure until they skip you. If they don't lose the slip then they place you where you are supposed to be placed.
I don't know how to guess a book with no info. Although there aren't many books my mom and i both read. But if she at least knew when it was or anything at all about the book or the characters.
We both read Lisa Gardner (she said it wasn't her). And we both read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. But she reads a lot of Jackie Collins and Danielle Steel, James Paterson and Sandra Brown. And i don't read those authors.

There is an outbreak of lice in my niece's class.
So far she has been lucky. But a bunch of girls in her class have had it in the past 2 weeks. And they all went to a birthday party she attended 2 weeks ago.
The thing i'm not clear about is how long it could take to show up if you have it. I can't believe there is no preventative treatment.
All the girls have been wearing their hair up.
It's sort of funny because every time a kid is absent everyone is wondering.
My niece was absent on tuesday with stomach problems and the next day everyone (kids and parents) were asking if she had it!
-
It won't be that funny if i get lice now since i managed to avoid it throughout my whole childhood.
-
QUICK HEALING VIBES FOR DR VIXTER!!! I'm guessing you are on an antibiotic & stitches weren't needed.
-
I don't know the new guy DR GINNY - but Ed Stern was one of the founders of the Indiana Repertory Theatre in Indy.....later run into the ground by Libby Appel - it is just now recovering from her tenure.
Not that I'm a fan but she didn't seem to hurt the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
-
In other news, I completely forgot to attend DS Zach's Grandparents and Special People event today (since we have no other family in town, Betsy and I always end up going). I'm thinking a well placed bribe of $20 might help ameliorate any deep seated rage. :)
It is difficult to imagine Zach was the only one there without a grandparent.

DO NOT SHARE COMBS OR BRUSHES, HATS & COATS!!! Is the school doing a check with a bright light?

Hello, everyone.

DO NOT SHARE COMBS OR BRUSHES, HATS & COATS!!! Is the school doing a check with a bright light?
I don't think the school is checking. But the parents are telling the kids not to hug (all the girls like to hug each other). They have sent home notes and emails. And the parents are supposed to check their own kids each day.
-
MEGA HEALING VIBES to DR RON!! May you remain comfortable. Will you be off work long?
-
HEALING VIBES to THE VIXTER as well!! And coping vibes to the rest of the Vixfamily!

Harryhausen fans may be interested to know that niche label Legend Films has released two of Ray's early (as in 1930s) pieces on Blu. I haven't gotten my screener yet, but my review should be up sometime in the next week.
Are you sure its the 1930's? That would make him a teenager as he was born in 1920.
-
I have had NO END of crapola to take care of the last few weeks--countless hours on the phone taking care of things due to other people's mistakes, including one very large bank, which will not admit to any wrongdoing. ARRRGGGHHHH!!
-
Mike, I didn't know you're a Peggy Lee fan. My friend Anna worked for her. Anna and I had lunch today and were chatting about her.

Bryan got it in elementary school along with the several children seated near him and/or with coat hangers next to each other. Because I shared my comb & brush with Bryan & Craig, while Keith didn't, we all had it. Their friends who played at our house didn't get it. It is much easier to see in dark hair than in light hair, which the boys had back then. I had to put all the stuffed toys & various items in plastic bags for about a month. We used that horrible shampoo. Since then I've read putting Petroleum Jelly on the scalp seals the lice in & kills them.
-
Jane, I was sorry to hear about your bee sting. There's an excellent product called STING STOP that I keep on hand. It's also good for itchy rashes.

Coping vibes for DR Jeanne!
No lice vibes for the family of DR Jennifer!

Congrats to DS Zach.

Coping vibes for DR Jeanne!
Thanks, Jane.

Thank you. If I see it I'll get it. Friends who hike say they carry meat tenderizer to make a paste if they get stung by anything when hiking. I carried it for years & never got stung-guess I shouldn't have stopped.

A GORGEOUS day here in LA!! Chilly last night, but warm and dry and beautiful day.
-
What's with all the dental stuff? I saw the dentist today--just a cleaning, fortunately.
-
This morning I went to the gym & mostly worked my lower body. I then returned home to change & have half a peanut butter & jam sandwich before rushing back out to hike Sherlock. I was so short on time Craig made my sandwich while I changed & Keith drove separately to the trails. I only had 20 minutes to take a very fast hike before leaving Keith & Sherlock to drive to PT. Poor Sherlock apparently wasn't happy I went missing & kept looking for me.

The story;
Glad to hear that they didn't give you rabies shots. They are not fun!!

I think he lives in Arizona.

Sitzprobe for "Parade" this evening. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be conducting this show. I'll save further comment for this evening.
We want comments.

Nice haul from Big Lots tonight: "Casablanca," "The Sting," "Breakfast at Tiffany's," "Cimmaron," and something called "Gumshoe" with Albert Finney.
"Breakfast" is in now, thanks to BK's recent notes on watching it again.

Peggy Lee is asking "Why Don't You do Right?"

Exactly when were you a kid?

Fathom is showing West Side Story in theaters Nov 9th. Does anyone know if version they are showing is the same transfer with all the problems that have been discussed on line? Will it have the intermission tha it had in the original roadshow?
-
In honor of the Vixter, let's all kill a squirrel today. In Arizona. Where I hear Cason lives.
XD That defeats the purpose of me SAVING him/her/it Bruce.
Gotta go- must make food and make sure nothing is due for school. Love to you all!! Miss you!!
Just be careful next new moon if you start getting a craving for peanuts.

So sorry to hear about your squirrel bite, The Vixter. You were doing your good deed, but he didn't know it.

I have just two words for your niece............. Home Schooling

Keith was bitten by a little dog as he rescued it off of the freeway. It turned out to be a very sweet dog & a very nice woman he worked with took the dog home with her. The rescue happened on the way to work. Since I was pregnant he made me stay in the car while he managed the rescue. We both worked in Pasadena at the time.

I don't care how much you use, Jane; I just don't think that bee will ever be very tender.

I have no chocolate here, so I am pouting.

I will not be returning to work until Wednesday.

I'm sure they'll be showing the Blu-ray of West Side Story, and consequently it will have the flaws - it will also have the intermission, unless they somehow bypass it.

I will not be returning to work until Wednesday.

Yes. They said I need someone to drive me home on Tuesday, so I figured I should wait until Wednesday to try driving to work.

I was so confounded why Outside The Box was never showing up in any way, shape, or form in the search engine of You Tube, that I went to the discussion board and asked why. Some really nice and helpful guy went to my channel and told me everything I'd done wrong. For example, I'd just used the title that was actually on the video file for the trailer - teaser trailer.mov - that was problem one. Also, when I created the channel I put all the words together - outsidetheboxseries - but I never gave the channel an actual title. So, I went in and changed everything and now it should start showing up easily, at least that's the hope. I put in a complete description, cast names, etc. so searching should now work whenever enough time goes by for it to show up.

Page Four Pwoject Wunway Finale Dance.....
I think the judges have already chosen Anya to win, so I will be very surprised if that is NOT the outcome.....as a big a robbery as last year's win by Gretchen.
Pwoject Wunway SPOILERS
SPOILERS
I'm not thinking that the Anya win robbed anyone. I've actually liked Anya time after time. Just when you think she hasn't a prayer in hell of finishing a challenge she turns out something stunning. I think she had one misfire during the entire competition. Viktor is incredible. Kimberly is not a favorite and neither is Joshua M. As for the runway show, Viktor outsmarted himself and introduced new pieces, holding back something praised by the judges last week when he showed his three looks. It was, as Heidi pointed out, two different collections neither of which complemented the other.
Joshua's collection was really neat, but as usual, Joshua oversells the "innovation" of his designs (they're not that innovative, IMO) and oversells how "amazing" a look is when it seems just "okay" to me. That, plus his raging ego that far exceeds his talent, has not endeared him to me at any point during the competition. I like him no more than I liked Gretchen and he is equally obnoxious.
Kimberly had a nice collection, as well, but her aesthetic isn't mine. I hated that top that won her a challenge...that gold metallic thing that Nina was so fond of and wore in a later segment of the show. Nina didn't wear it well, either. She looked misshapen to me. Kimberly has turned out some great-looking clothes, though, and I thought her collection was pretty coherent.
I though Michael Kors' observations about Anya were convincing. Anya has a distinctive, and aesthetically sophisticated, sense of style. Of all four designers, I agree with them that she's the one most ready to launch a business. Josh was a close second. Frankly, though, he has been diverted by Tim from several disasters. Josh will make it, I'm sure, as will most of the designers in the competition.
Anywho, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it. I figured if Anya could somehow work some magic with her collection that she'd stun everyone. She stunned enough folks and I applaud her win.

So, good night, all.
