And... I'm back in NYC. The bus driver made great(!!!!) time. We left DC at 11:43pm - two minutes early! And arrived at Penn Station at 3:25am. I'm sure he was most likely not driving the speed limit ;), however, there was also no traffic anywhere along the route from DC to NYC. There wasn't even any night work at the Lincoln Tunnel, so he sailed on through.

It was a beautiful (but chilly) day yesterday.

I don't have a picture of the Cherpumple. It wasn't complete. It was only a Cherpum. The Cher part was too heavy (he put it together with pumpkin on the bottom then apple then cherry) and squished the ple part so he took the ple part out. He iced the rest. It was OK. It was the first but I don't need to have it again. It's just too much and that's even without the ple.

Good morning, all! I had a very, very peculiar dream involving being driven to an audition by Queen Elizabeth II, who drives like a fiend around London and auditions in a high soprano voice that only dogs for the most part can hear. The really odd part of this dream is that I was in a court room on some litigation case and the Queen showed up, when the whole thing became an audition.

Last night at 8:30, I went down to O'Lunney's on 50th Street next to the threatre where THE FANTASTICKS is playing, for one of David Lutken's hootenanny nights. David replaced Keith Carradine in THE WILL ROGERS FOLLIES, and he is a fantastic performer, who knows every folksong ever written. I first ran into him during the City Opera's PAUL BUNYAN, in which he played the balladeer. Whenever he comes into town, he has one of his hootenannies and actors and musicians turn up with fiddles, guitars, basses, tambourines, mandolins, etc. and play along. Since David's in our show, a lot of the cast, producers, and stage manager showed up and it was a lot of fun. I left around 10, got home by 10:30, and I was in bed by 11:15.

Today at noon, we begin rehearsals, and I'm excited. I've got music to photocopy before I show up, but I think it will be a good day.

Fingers crossed.

More coffee!

Monday morning greetings!  It's raining in SW Ohio and I have to decide whether to buy trick or treat candy or just not participate tonight.  Richard and I want to go see THE IDES OF MARCH, which means we'd be out during our community's appointed trick or treat hours.  We usually don't get many kids anyway, so we may be grinches this year.

DRs Cillaliz & JMK - about PAN AM:  I'd missed 2 episodes and hoped it had jelled while I was away.  Alas, for me it has not and I think it's not worth staying up late on Sunday nights.  The only character/actress I like is the French stewardess.

The rhime was certainly on the pumpkin this morning (or at least it was on my car.)

The view along the river on the train ride into Conshohoken was odd but lovely.  The colors of the trees were more like Thanksgiving than Halloween.  And the mist riding on the still river waters was appropriately eerie.

I didn't get much reading done about the life of Joe Papp...

Thanks to DR ELMORE for The Blue Flower report.....yikes!

I watched an episode of PAN AM.  I thought it suggested the 60's much more than THE PLAYBOY CLUB did, but still didn't catch my interest enough for a return.

I think they should have done a hospital drama set in the 60's--that would have been more fun!

I still have dim memories of some Kildare or Casey episode I caught whilst a child home sick from school and the show was running in reruns during daytime.  It started with some young girl driving into a truck that had lumber sticking out of the back.  They couldn't figure out why it had happened but ultimately discovered she was epileptic and had suffered a seizure because the truck's blinker light had created a seizure.  Why I should remember this episode when I can't recall my children's names is rather disturbing.

We made the Halloween effort when Rob was young, but there aren't many kids in our neighborhood and the few who do show up often pass up our steep driveway.  This year, between the wedding and our trip, I didn't even get out the Halloween decorations.  I won't always be a grinch, but this seemed like a good year for it.

Lots of nifty guest stars....Tina Louise, John Gavin, Aldo Ray, Clu Gulager, Tippi Hedren...

I did a very nice interview on Sunday with actor Wayne Mallory (aka as Chad Mallory; aka Ted Avery; aka Wayne Moseley).

Under any name he didn't have much of a career, but he sure was a lot of fun to chat with!

Hello to all you other home stuck people. I can't get the t.v. to switch to dvd, so no more "Nightmare Before Christmas" for me it seems. And I can't munch on any of the candy we have for trick or treaters. But the saddest part is that I don't HAVE any trick or treat-ers.

*sighs* What happened to Halloween? I hope I get to go out later tonight with friends. Thye'll be out of rehearsal at eight so.... not much fun time honestly.  :-[

How's everyone elses Halloween going? *worries about rain- or worse, SNOW again*

Fingers and toes.  I am so excited for you elmore!

I remember that episode.  It was BEN CASEY.  The young woman who crashed into the truck was a nun.  I believe the role was played by Zina Bethune

We are back from seeing THE IDES OF MARCH and having dinner at the new Chipotle in Monroe.  Much of the movie was filmed in the Cincinnati area and it was fun figuring out the various locations.  The opening auditorium scene, we're pretty sure, was in Hall Auditorium at Miami University.  Hall is not in the Farmer School of Business as they made it look.  Also, at the end, when they're supposed to be at Xavier University in Cincinnati, the interior is clearly the Michigan League on the campus in Ann Arbor.

I seem to remember DR Jose commenting on similar incongruities that he picked up in BLACK SWAN.

I also had trouble buying the conceit that the same crew would be sent to a different location each week.  More interesting for the writers, yes, but not how I suspect flight crew scheduling really works.

In other news...

When I was at New 42nd Street Studios earlier, I happened to run into DR elmore's friend and colleague, Rob Berman. And since Rob was there rehearsing the next workshop of YANK!, Cody Williams (from Arena's OKLAHOMA!) was also in the building. And then since I was there to play a rehearsal for Paper Mill Playhouse's upcoming production of WHITE CHRISTMAS, I was reunited with a bunch of the staff and cast from when I played rehearsals for the second Broadway and National companies - which happened to include Melody Hollis. Then it turned out that one of the dance captains for this production was also in OKLAHOMA! :)

In fact I wrote a rather lovely lullaby for Gabe (if I do say so myself, which I do) with those first four notes, which my friend Susannah Mars sang in a cabaret we did, with one set devoted to children.  (We did a lovely Alan Broadbent-Dave Frishberg tune, too, as I recall.  I think it's called "Heart's Desire").

Best email of the day department:

I came to your town and there's nothing I do not know, for a walk?‏  Can I ask you? "Was you ever have sex with a Russian girl? Would you like to try it?" I am now in America - a guy looking for dating and sex.

From one "AMY Evans."  LOL.

My day off today and I decided to watch movies starring Yu Wang aka Jimmy Wan Yu aka Kimmy Wong Yu. His best film of the ones I watched IMHO is The Master of The Flying Guillotine aka The One Armed Boxer vs The Flying Guillotine.

You know you live in Iowa when you get calls from Michelle Bachman and America for Obama while you're trying to eat dinner

I also watch the Blood Of The Dragon. An interesting and violent film where the hero doesn't survive.

At Zach's insistence, we did a "barfkin" this year.  If you have to ask what that is, you probably shouldn't.  :)

There is a beautiful crescent moon here this evening, and it's quite frosty and chilly.  A perfect autumn evening, and time to say goodnight.

Well, it was our usual busy Halloween, with hundreds of kiddies and teens stopping by.  First we had a rehearsal with Melody - that went very well.  She and her dad then went out to trick or treat in the nabe but were back in six minutes - she felt that she was the oldest person trick or treating and wasn't having fun (there were many older than her but they came later) - she asked her father and I if she could stay at the house and hand out candy with me - that was fine by me and fine by her dad, so she did all the candy giving out and did a fine job.  After three hours of that, I finally took her home.  I'm a little exhausted right now.
