Good morning, all! And Happy St Patrick's Day to all of you.

I slept well, no memory of any dreams, and I have a busy morning. I'm meetng a friend from the Men's Chorus I've not seen in 15 years or more since he moved to San Francisco. He's singing in a performance tomorrow of Mozart's Requiem, and then he returns to California. It will be fun to see an old friend - we saw the epic disaster CARRIE tgether and I have a memory that he was with me when I saw my friend Amanda Plummer as Eliza Doolittle in PYGMALION.

After breakfast with him, I will head uptown and work on another score for ROBERTA. I want to avoid as many drunks running around dressed in green and pretending to be Irish as possible.

TOD: Jaws, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park

Glad to hear that MR BK is feeling better.

Yes, there are several basketball games on today and tomorrow....so TAR will probably be late....on the East Coast.

I think I wrote that I feel pretty much the way MR BK does about My Week With Marilyn.  When I heard that Williams does "Heat Wave" in the movie, I was ready to see a recreation of the number from There's No Business Like Show Business.  What we get is "Marilyn" and two males dancers in black - it looks more like a number from Let's Make Love than anything else.....and the rushes from P/S are in some widescreen process - even though it was filmed in academy ratio.

And since I don't like Sir Laurence.....I thought Branagh did him very well.

TOD:

Jaws
Schindler's List

I hope to see War Horse sooner or later.

So many of his films follow the same path that they all are the same to me:

Loner or children makes a discovery.
Discovery is cute.
Entire world of police or military come down on loner or child.
Discovery does something unexplainable.
Loner or child stands there while music plays.

I read the book some years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Somehow the film doesn't appeal to me much.

I also watched THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN last night and like BK was slightly underwhelmed, though it was fun.  Am the only one who thinks John Williams channeled Lenny's dance stuff from WSS for his score?  It's the exact same motif as one of the pieces in WSS whose name escapes me at the moment.

BK, typically the BD and DVD have different color labels on them.  I agree about putting it on the left under the digital copy insert (that happens a lot, believe me), but typically the BDs have some sort of blue on the label and DVDs don't.

Speaking of idiot drivers--perhaps this will put your experiences in perspective BK.  The front page of the Oregonian has a heart breaking story about a drug addled man who crashed head on into a pregnant woman, putting her into a vegetative state and creating huge problems for her unborn baby, who was delivered successfully via C section.  It's now two years later, the woman is still in a vegetative state, the baby has a shunt to drain fluid from her brain and at sentencing yesterday, what does this idiot do?  Erupts into a profanity laced rant at the woman's family who was (were?) trying to give their victim impact statements.

A computer does the final matches.  How one & one don't match up we are all clueless.   I feel very bad for his friend who has found his own match, only it is in internal medicine when he wanted to do emergency medicine.

Bryan knows how darn lucky he is to be going to, possibly, the best program/hospital in the country.

Zef is being a real pest - he is taking to going into the yeard and barking at the toddler currenly staying next door. I suspect he'll not have that pleasure for too long. The neighbor parents think it's gteat fun to have the little one happily run up and down the center of the road - Dad even plays chase with him. Mom went for a walk, down the enter of the road, with a baby in a carriage and had Junior romping about with her - no attempt to hold his hand or keep his activities to the side of the road. With this "street conditioning" he'll be road kill before Pre-school.

Home from a lovely breakfast with my good friend Angela who is on her spring break from Northwestern.  I went to the store and purchased a corned beef and some already cut up veggies (THANK YOU SAFEWAY!!!) and have decided that I will put the corned beef in the oven,  boil the potatoes and carrots, and stir fry the cabbage in the wok.

No, we knew you'd be the first.  Pilot error on the part of the designer and my bad for not catching it - I always assume the CD label will be correct if it's correct elsewhere - but for some reason on this one rather than cut and paste he typed it in anew - bad error and it won't be happening again.  If that's the worst we're ever guilty with I see no reason for head rolling.  Apparently the recent Quartet release of Casino Royale, despite much proofing, has several similar mistakes.

The theatre company in which I have just been named their "Resident" music director - which is basically a title that comes with an email address so that patrons can contact me directly with their concerns/praises, etc... and of course, doesn't come with an extra cash... but oh well.  Anyhow... they chose a season for next year (starting in September) and while it's not public yet, all I can tell you is that I see a lot of legal pink and marine green (and lots of Asian percussion) in the coming year.

And that's all I have... isn't that enough????

My first trip to New York City, when I was eighteen, coincided with St. Patrick's Day.  Growing up, I had heard about the  famous New York St. Patrick's Day Parade.  I was so exicted to see it, and I was so disappointed that I saw it.  Not my idea of a parade.  I didn't see any leprechauns that day, but I saw a lot of very drunk Irishmen

That evening, I legally consumed far too many beers at Your Father's Mustache down in the Village.

One of my Top Ten Favorite Films of all-time is CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND.  However, I prefer the original version of the film rather than the two or three different versions or Director's Cuts, or enhanced versions that followed it.  The original version was like a religious experience for me.  I dragged everyone I knew to see that film.  Every time I saw the film in a theater, the entire audience sat through all of the final credits without moving.

Apparently, delivery food in Tacoma consists of several brands of pizza and one Chinese cafe.  That is it!

I don't think anyone delivers food out to us.  I've had florist call & offer to put extra flowers in the arrangement if I pick it up.

That was a clever idea.  Did you pick it up?

Have any of our East Coast members heard any early buzz (good or bad) on NICE WORK?

I hear it's one more musical to use "Someone To Watch Over Me," which has been in CRAZY FOR YOU, which is ridiculous, given the number of songs in the Gershwin catalogue. Since I believe that most of these Gershwin revisals have to do with extending copyright and greed, you'd think they'd want to get more songs into their grasp.

PB and J is also quite common here. However now that peanuts are not allowed at schools ... well my nieces have not eaten too much peanut butter. In fact they do not even recommend that kids try penut butter early in case they are allergic. My two year old niece has never even tried it. I find that crazy.

I may have missed a mention of this here, but does anyone know what (on earth) has happened that would have Amazon.com cancelling pre-orders for the 1953 "Titanic" blu-ray?  It's no longer on their site.  While my order is still in the system, any attempt I make to see details of it take me back to the log-in page (and I was already logged in).

I've heard a few people have received e-mails from Amazon.com telling them that their orders have been cancelled.

I read it isn't recommended if you are pregnant.  I still love my p & j sandwiches.  After swimming I usually have one on an apricot cranberry bread that goes very well with the apricot & vanilla jams along with my Skippy chunky peanut butter.  I don't use much jam since it isn't the healthy part of the sandwich.

Grape jelly is probably my least favorite.  I prefer preserves to any most jellies.  Lately I have been buying Dickerson's.

Keith likes banana's & peanut butter.  The only mushy banana I like is banana nut bread.

They are identical. But they do not really tell you how much water to put in it. I can tell that there is more water in this one. So far after one night it was very comfy. But i am not sure if more water is better or worse.

I preferred talking to people on the land line in my room.  Calls out were easier to make on my cell, plus it was difficult/painful to reach the land line.

Peanut butter and grape jelly is pretty much a standard for kids in the U.S. Certainly not my favorite, but it doesn't need refrigeration.

You are kidding aren't you, Doug?

P & J is very American, plus I believe their peanut butter isn't as good as our is.

Well, there was a smiley face, so I wasn't sure.  And then I thought that maybe "jelly" didn't mean the same thing in England.

OH! You're right  - jelly is what we know as jello or gelatin here  -  Doug it is a peanut buttter and  what you ight call "jam" sandwich - traditionally here we use grape - what we call jam I think you call preserves

I think this is in the key of E flat.

First note is B flat, second one is C, third is A flat below the first B flat, the next note is the A flat one octave below the first A flat and lastly is an E flat above the lower A flat.

Back from an unexpectedly long night.  Rehearsal was fun and all the new material works well - I figured out the structure for the ending so that it accommodates the new stuff.  Then we went to California Pizza Kitchen where we had an absolutely yummilicious dinner.  They told me about a Showtime documentary they'd just seen and since I seemed interested they invited me back to their place to watch.  The thing was called The Hollywood Complex and is about Oakwood Apartments being used every pilot season by families whose children want to be in the business.  It was properly creepy and weird and more than a little sad - not only the occasionally wacked out parents, but "agents" and "casting directors" none of whom I've heard of all offering advice and stuff - these people are not doing this for free, and it costs the families huge amounts of money to do this.  The documentary never really visits that part of it and the viewer is left to draw their own obvious conclusions.

After that, Melody tried on her dress from last year - it's too tight now.  We then had a hilarious costume parade, where she just kept coming out in new outfits.  Really funny.  We also had some homemade apple pie.  A very lovely evening, really.

I just watched a very nice Bollywood movie about a gal who finally falls in love, but it turns out that the guy she is in love with is actually a resident at the local mental hospital.

Judging from my past boyfriends, I could have written that script.

And where, might I ask, is DR George?  He went off to usher last evening, but never came back?

Last night, I ushered for the Playing for Change (http://playingforchange.com/) band.  I didn't actually see the concert, but I heard it out in the lobby.  It was quite full audience.  I sold merchandise and wow did the merchandise sell.  We must've sold over $1000 worth.  Afterward, the performers all came out and signed for audience.  I was able to get one of the Washington Center posters and got it signed!  Here's the poster:

I have packed us a lunch: peanut butter and jelly sandwiches,

Peanut butter and jelly sandwich Laura? I've never heard of such a thing (at least not on this side of the Atlantic). Sounds revolting ;D

Think Robertson's.

DR Vixmom I don't know why you say grape is traditional.

I dont know how to cut and opaste using my nook.   I said

Think robertson's

I don't think of grape as the tradition jam for peanut butter sandwiches.

Congrats on the new directorship!

I have no idea what the marine green refers to, though.

T.O.D.

I just bought the Blu-ray at Costco and it had all three versions of the movie...the original theatrical version, the extended version AND the director's cut. :)

There was a DVD release a few years ago (which I also have) that also had all three versions, plus a poster chart that shows what/where all the extensions and deletions are for each version.  On the back of that is the poster for the movie...very nice.

I agree!  I like to mix peanut butter in plain, non-fat yogurt...now that's good. :)
