Title: KRITZERLAND AT STERLING'S 20
Post by: bk on April 02, 2012, 01:21:49 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Kritzerland 20, and now it is time for you to post until the Broadway Bound cows come home.

Good morning, all!  Good news about the show, BK!

I met Lainie Kazan when she, Bette Midler, Lypsinka, Patti Lupone, and Elaine Stritch did an Ethel Merman night staged by Jerry Mitchell for the Gay Men's Health Crisis. I scored the overture and "You're Just In Love" for Stritch and the Plaids. I liked Miss Kazan quite a lot. I haven't seen her since then, so I'm glad she's still around.

In about rwenty minutes I'm walking to the Post Office to mail these two vocal scores for DEAREST ENEMY, at 10:00 I have a telephonic conversation with one of my DEARST ENEMY boys about the horrendous vocal arrangement for "Cheerio!" ad then I will call conductor John Wilson, who's in New York this week, to see if we can plan a coffee date. Then I will call the pharmacy for more meds, and that's hopefully the extent of myv telephonic conversations for a while.

Tonight I'm having dinner with my friend Joseph Rubin, so I need to start proofreading Victor Herbert's "The Only Girl" to appease him, since DEAREST ENEMY has prevented me from beginning work on it with him.

How about something from one of your (I think) favorite people:
HEARTBEATS – Amanda Mc Broom

Or another Kimmel pair:
THE GRASS HARP or NIGHT OF THE HUNTER

Two of my personal favorites:
“Measure the Valleys” from RAISIN
“Close Upon the Hour” from KING OF HEARTS

For Ed Kleban’s music plus lyrics A CLASS ACT

For novelty:
BAT BOY – “Ugly Boy”, “Inside Your Heart”
GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL (“Flushed Down the Pipes’)

Of couRse, if you're willing to go for one hit wonders, you can pick from:

SECRECT GARDEN
1776
ROCKY HORROR PICTUER SHOW
GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN
BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS

(MAybe not the best choices, but maybe will get  you other's thinking)

FOR DR Jane or anyone who has a goodreads account:

It seems quite easy to opt out of getting friends updates.  Do you see where your pic is in the top right corner. There is an arrow beside it. When you click on that you can click on "help". There are specific instructions on how to opt out. Looks pretty easy.

How do I opt-out of friend update emails?

1) Go to your "edit profile" page.

2) Select the "emails" tab.

3) At the top of the page, find the option titled: "Email me new reviews from friends".

4) Select the option for "never".

5) Scroll down until you see "save email settings", and click that button to save your changes.

THE GRASS HARP has some great songs in it, as does MACK AND MABEL.

Also like a sing from PIPE DREAM, "Everybody's Got a Home But Me".

And, there are a couple of songs in THE PEOPLE IN THE PICTURE that I really like.

TOD:

I'll second the mention of the score for "Grass Harp"

the score for "Romance/Romance"

"Take Me Down" from a score by Danny Troob and Jamie Donnelly

"Welcome to My Party" from La Chiusa's "The Wild Party."

"These Eyes of Mine" from "Grind"

It's too early on a Monday to remember more.

I had routine blood work done today & the paperwork had my birth date wrong.  The error was obvious as I was not born in 2011.  The woman at the desk wouldn't tell me what the date on the paperwork said.  Probably because it made her look silly to have to call the doctor & verify.  I understand she had to call even if it added 15 minutes to my wait, it was her secrecy about the date that is a bit silly to me.  The lab tech mentioned the error to me.

It might not be obvious to someone who can't subtract. And I've dealt with many of those at cash registers lately. They're confused when on a $30.05 bill when you give them $40.05. They just can't figure that stuff out.

Good.  I hope your appointment went well.

It went fine, DR Jane, thanks for asking.  This is not the doctor who manages my Coumadin, but he agrees that it may be the cause of my weekend nosebleeds.  Or, I might be experiencing some seasonal allergies.  Our family doctor, who DOES monitor my Coumadin, has asked that I be checked again next week and I'm going to make an appointment to see him if it still seems to be out of whack.

The doctor I saw today is a hematologist to whom I was referred after my heart attack.  My last appointment with him was just before we left for Europe, so I asked him a lot about preventing DVT on the long flights.  Today he wanted to hear all about our trip and if, as he predicted, we came back with fond memories of the train travel.  I told him we did.

This morning I saw my new cardiologist (I never knew I had one).  He looked at the EKG and the Ultra Sound that I had done in his office last week.  He said that he could find no evidence that I had ever had a heart attack.  He went thru everything he found in the ultrasound, and it was all positive.  He said it seemed like there might be a little extra fluid in the sac around the heart, but he will check that in two months.  Other than that, I am A-OK.  We now have a green light for surgery tomorrow.

I spent part of Sunday watching two really enjoyable silent German films, both starring the lovely Brigitte Helm.

ALRAUNE and ABWEGE were the two films. Quite good.

My best friend back in JR high and high school days was a huge fan of Brigitte Helm, and up to now I had only really seen her in METROPOLIS and MISTRESS OF ATLANTIS. He will be proud that I ventured into seeing some of her other films. She is quite an interesting actress.

LOL, one year (as in 2011 to 2012, not to my birth year) should have been easy enough ;)

Monday morning greetings!  I had a much better night last night and slept until about 9 this morning.  I'm doing some puttering and will soon take my basement walk and get ready for my doctor's appointment.

:)

Oy. There is scarlet fever and strep throat going around my niece's school. Five reportrd cases. And when I picked her up today she said her throat was hurting. It is very hard to tell if a kid means it hurts alot. She has had a very runny nose the past few days. But today she was able to play, eat and talk/sing. So how much could it really be hurting?

I think of strep throat as being painful so out of curiosity I did a search.  It seems you can have strep without much pain.  They went to the doctor because of a fever & white spots on their throats.

Today Craig sent a letter of intent to enroll to Johns Hopkins University.  He won't be attending the campus in Baltimore.  Instead he decided on a two year program with courses at the Rockville & Columbia campuses.  He opted for this program as he can work, & be paid, while going to school but most of all because it offers more time & experience in the classroom than the other programs he was accepted to.

They also said he could finish his work term here & begin classes in July instead of May.  He will only miss one class & can fit it in at a later date.  That will also give him time to take one or two prerequisite classes online before he moves.

They emailed the parents the symptoms. My brother-in-law read me the email. But when i picked up my niece all i knew was that kids had these illnesses. I do not think she had a fever. And i did look in her mouth and did not notice anything. I asked her when her throat started hurting. She said at daycare during homework. I asked her if she told her teacher. She said no they were not allowed to talk during homework.

There were LOTS of babies and small children on the packed airplane today. They all squealed with delight while the plane was pitching about in the turbulence.

At least they didn't kick your chair.

And welcome back.

I am still catching up on CDs I've had forever but never listened to.  I'm absolutely loving QUEENIE PIE, which I got when Borders closed.

This headline is currently running on MSN:

Blige embarrasses herself in BK ad

Which of course raises the questions of what exactly BK is advertising and why in heaven's name he's using Mary K. Blige to do it?

Betsy got completely patted down both going to and returning from D.C.  Because of course a middle aged Jewish woman is a likely terrorist.

I'm not sure Ann Romney meant to say quite what she said:

When asked in an interview with Baltimore's WBAL radio if she has to fend off criticism about her husband's allegedly "stiff" personality, Ann Romney laughed it off. "I guess we better unzip 'em and let the real Mitt Romney out, because he is not," she said.

Yes, Jennifer Granholm and her guests were experiencing ensued hilarity after listening to that clip.

I saw that it was on and the Margaret Mitchell episode, so I set my DVR to record the rebroadcasts of both.

Rehearsal was fine.  I don't know if I mentioned this here, but when we cast the show, we cast three extra orphans and we named them Dorothy, Laurie and Nelly.  One of them dropped, so we didn't have a Nelly, and one of the named orphans dropped and now I think we don't have a Laurie.  Well, it was a good thought, anyway.

Back from a heavy night of mixing the first of the three STAGE benefit recording, this one the Sondheim tribute from 2007.  Some interesting performances and although I was quite worried about the sound after I heard the first rough mix of Night Waltz, we were able to get it all sounding pretty damn good considering I did not actually record it and the people who did didn't do a stellar job.  Night Waltz started with that thing that begins A Little Night Music, with all the singers warming up obnoxiously - here it was horribly sung and distorted, so I just cut it and went right to the "bump, bump" part.

Tomorrow night we do the Bacharach show, which I'm told sounds worse than the Sondheim, so that one may take some fancy footwork - then Wednesday we do ALW, Thursday director David Galligan must sign off on everything and then everything will be to the printer by Friday and the mastering guy, too.  Hopefully he can get them all mastered and to the pressing plant by mid next week and I think we'll just squeak by.
