Well, you've read the notes, the notes had teeth, and now it is time for you to post until the toothy cows come home.

Wow first post!

Last night went really well.  Sergio looked the roof over and found some problems but he said they were fixable.  And Shane, the draftsman came up with several designs for the room that will depend on the legals ilke where the exact property line is, etc.

I'm excited about that.

Dreading going into work today.   What used to be a joy is now a nightmare.

Gotta go I guess.

Good morning, all! Igot a lot of sleep last night, so I'm feeling good, and I'm ready to tackle more DEAREST ENEMY, THE ONLY GIRL, and ROBERTA today.

Yesterday had its positive and frustrating moments: I had a nice meeting with the rental agent of the building housing Toyland, and things are looking quite promising.  Our paralegal Geri, whom I adore but whose family and Connecticut emergencies can cause scheduling problems, canceled our date at the McGlinnventory this morning, which was most frustrating since I'd already redone my schedule to accommodate this. While I am quite happy to have the morning for other madness, we've got an auction to finish up and things to deal with.

My goal this morning is a vocal layout for that big hit from ROBERTA, "Clementina," which was part of the finale of the out-of-town preview performances, proof several full scores forROBERTA andcontinue tearing out my hair over these scores for THE ONLY GIRL. Oneof the problems with allthese music programs like Sibelius and Finale is that many have them and few know what to do. My standards are much hgher than that of the work on some of these scores.

Fortunately the sensitive tooth which I complained about recently is back to normal. I find with sensitive teeth it's often a good idea to take a wait and see attitude although I'm still going for a check up later this month.

Title: Re: MY TEETH ACHE
Post by: Dan (the Man) on April 11, 2012, 06:19:06 AM
I think the last vinyl I bought was THE DROWSEY CHAPERONE a few years ago (and I've never played it!). Before that, it would be the MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD cast recording back in the 80's.  DROOD was also the first cast recording I bought as a cd.

I think Drood was the last new original cast recording I bought on vinyl, too. I have since picked up a few others that hadn't been released on CD, such as "Man with a Load of Mischief."

DR GEORGE - there is a collection of hilarious one act plays by David Ives called ALL IN THE TIMING......if you are thinking of an evening of one acts, I can't recommend these plays more highly.  We did an evening of six of them at the Phoenix Theatre a few years ago including:

Words Words Words - Three chimpanzees with typewriters are being watched by scientists, and in the end....do start to write Hamlet

All In The Timing - A courting couple talk, and when one says the wrong thing, a bell rings, and they have to start over

Phillip Glass Buys a Loaf of Bread - just what the title says

The Philadelphia - a man just wants a Philly sandwich, but is in a restaurant where you have to ask for the opposite of what you want to get it

The Universal Language - my favorite!  A young man goes to a language class....and buy the end of the 15 minutes he - and everyone in the audience - is speaking and understanding an entirely new language

Variations on the Death of Trotsky - the only one I didn't like....but some people did.

I'm very interested in an aspect of last night's photo discussion.

If you allow someone to take your picture, just a friend or family member, it sounds like everyone's saying the photographer is  in effect given full rights to post that picture on the net and use it in any way they want.

But if someone just takes a photo without asking, which is clearly NOT what happened in last night's case - then does the subject have any rights to say don't post it.

I've caused enough trouble at Toyland, so I'm heading back uptown. I ran into Ted Chapin on the way to the subway and had a nice talk with him on the ride to 28th Street. He's off to London this afternoon. I also ran into my harpist friend Karen Lindquist who played on many of BK's albums. I dearly love her, and it was nice to see her.

More later, perhaps!

I guess that Dancee-off thing starts next week. Although i don't remember them saying that last week. Although i'm sure the results would have been the same.

Mostly i don't care that much when someone is eliminated from the show. But last night I was just really upset afterwards.

I felt the same way about who the bottom two were.  But I always have to remind myself it's not the "bottom two" being specifically "voted off" by the viewers who phone and phone over and over, it's the others being "voted on" by their fan base actively wanting them to be there.

But it really has not been for several seasons about who did the actual best dance, but (even in the three judges' scores) it's really about keeping on who the fans or judges in their guts want to keep seeing week after week.     I'm sure the judges feel it's based on quality, but "quality" in that field seems to include sheer entertainment value as far as even the judges are concerned, over specific technical merit.

Back from Dr. Chew.  The news is: I did indeed chip the tooth next to the upper left gold crown, so that one will get a porcelain cap.  The problem with the lower gold crown is that the tooth it's attached to has become a little loose.  He doesn't think there's any real bad damage there, but I don't know yet how he will handle it.  All else seems to be fine.  So, I go back next Tuesday for my cleaning, and then will be going back three or four more times after that.

Well with this judges choosing from the B2 for the next 4 weeks i guess Katherine will be safe for the next month.

She is my favorite dancer left on the show. And she seems lovely. But i don't think i like the idea that the judges will be getting to decide every week. I would rather they had a judges save like on Idol (where they could save one person). But this new rule means that the best dancer (even though she had no fans before this show) can't be voted off. The show is not about best dancer. IT's about personality/charisma/your professional partner...

I also headache, which is making work this afternoon not the most productive in the world.

And i found out I don't have all I need to get back to taxes tonight.  :(

Oh, that's really an irritant.  Finished mine last night.  Not a pretty sight, but it's done for another year.

My question for ASK BK DAY:

When you receive your residuals for television or film work - do they let you know if it is from television broadcasts or DVD sales?

I should get residuals from the "Will and Grace" season during which Debra Messing was pregnant, ugly as all get-out, and annoying, to boot.  After all, I had to WATCH it.

Yes, it's always noted on the thing you get from SAG that accompanies the check.

What did the article say DR JMK?

It's the same one I quote in my article and I think I include on the CD-R of articles I sent you--it's about Gene Tierney and Frances and their troubles, but it clearly quotes Frances saying her family wanted her OUT of show business and her desire to stay IN is what helped lead to her breakdown.

Laters!

Very good news about your house, Danise!

Sorry about your work.

Hope it all went well, BK!

I had my dental appointment this morning and things were much better than last time...I don't have to come back for another six months (back to the regular schedule)!  AND I didn't have to pay for it!  I thought that our dental plan allowed for one appointment every six months, but it turns out that it's actually good for two appts. within a calendar year.  Since my last appt. was in December and this is a new calendar year, I'm covered! ;D

I just caught up...

I am always surprised when DR Jennifer and DR George talk about their libraries getting in new DVDs. The only time our library gets new DVDs is when I donate them.

Right now our city library is well stocked in Bollywood movies and old B-rate sci-fi.

Me too!  My library only has PBS-type DVDs, on the whole.  I don't think they have any recently released ones.

I think the last vinyl I bought was THE DROWSEY CHAPERONE a few years ago (and I've never played it!). Before that, it would be the MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD cast recording back in the 80's.  DROOD was also the first cast recording I bought as a cd.

I remember when the OCR of Once On This Island was released in 1990, it was the first cast recording that I knew of that wasn't released on BOTH vinyl and CD.  It was the beginning of a new era.

There was a theater group from Yelm (about 20 minutes away from Olympia) that did selections from this.  I thoroughly enjoyed the pieces that they chose to do. :)

Pardon my gushing, but after my dental appointment this morning, the route back to work took me by a local Blockbuster that will be closing this weekend.  I just had to stop in and look!  ALL previously viewed DVDs AND Blu-rays were only $1.99!  All new (unopened) DVD/Blu-rays were 70% off the lowest ticketed price.  AND they had a bunch of their rental DVDs with no boxes (just in the mailer sleeves) for $1.99 for TWO!  So, for only $32.49, I got:

New, unopened Blu-ray:
Julie & Julia (only $3.90)

Previously viewed Blu-rays ($1.99 each):
Brokeback Mountain (even though I already have the DVD)
Brüno
Fame
(the remake)
The Kids Are All Right
Nine
Paranormal Activity
The Social Network

DVDs with cases ($1.99 each):
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Flight of the Conchords
(complete first season...two discs)

2-for-$1.99 DVDs w/o cases:
Australia
Death at a Funeral
(the remake)
Ghost Writer
A History of Violence
Quantum Solace
The Royal Tenenbaums
(Criterion Collection two-disc set...in one sleeve, so it counted as one!)

SCORE!!

Well, I am off.  I'm going to get a little something to eat before I attend (as a patron...NOT usher!) the "National Broadway Tour of In the Heights (http://wcpa.squarespace.com/upcoming-events/2012/4/11/the-national-broadway-tour-of-in-the-heights.html)"!  I can't wait!  Last year at the WCPA volunteer appreciation dinner, I won two tickets to any WCPA sponsored event and I chose this!

According to the production website (http://www.intheheightsthemusical.com/), Natalie Toro is in the cast (hers is the only name that I recognize).  I don't know if she'll be in tonight's performance, but she sang a duet with our very own Guy Haines on his CD, "Haines His Way." :) I actually have that CD with me here at work, so I'll bring it with me to the theater and see if I can send it backstage to get her autograph.  Wouldn't that be cool?

Be back later!

Bruce, I watched all the Kenneth Branagh Wallander episodes a few years ago. I enjoyed them and found them well done, but they just weren't one of my favorites. Personal taste? It was the writing, I think. It just didn't resonate for me.

Notes will be late - just want to finish proofing the ALW second disc so I can approve.  There are times deep in the second half, when the MD simply stops any pretense of actually trying to conduct - while the musicians literally give up and have no idea what bar they're in.  Thankfully, it doesn't happen much in the first half and everyone knows it's a live recording.

I'm back from seeing In the Heights!  And I must say that it was fantastic!  We were in the fourth row, maybe three seats from the center and we could see everything!  The sound was pretty good...except when everyone was singing at the same time and was all jumbled, but otherwise it wasn't too loud.  There were almost 700 pre-sold tickets (the theater holds 988) and it was pretty darned full.  A very deserved standing ovation was given.

However, it turns out that the link to the production website was incorrect on the WCPA's website.  They had the link to the first (http://www.intheheightsthemusical.com/) national tour, which this wasn't, so Natalie Toro wasn't there.  THIS (http://www.intheheightsontour.com/) is the actual tour website.  Anyway, highly recommended. ;D
