Title: THE VULTURES
Post by: bk on April 28, 2012, 12:45:36 AM
Well, you've read the notes, there were vultures circling the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently at an estate sale spending their hard earned MOOney.

We need pictures of the Pooch Parade.  Today is the day of the Mutt Strut around the Indy 500 track, so maybe there will be doggies news stories this evening on the local channels.

ANNIE vibes for DR MATTHEW.....and STAGE vibes for MR BK and those pesky musicians.

TOD: I love to search for recordings, in any format, of musicals that I don't have, which may be why I've ended up with seven recording of "Annie Get Your Gun."

I also love to find an author and search out most everything he or she has written. I think it started with George Eliot, but through the years I've collected all of J.B. Priestley's novels, Anthony Trollope's, all but one of Dawn Powell's, and so many more. Currently, I'm looking for Balzac. I just wish I had the time to read a few of them, but classes are getting in the way of my education.

I will try to post some pooches parading about, though it may not be today. It all depends on the time. I've got to get a  paper finished this weekend and I only have about 10 pages of notes. It will likely be doubled by the time it's finished.

Good morning, all! I hate being out late because it screws up my following day. I git ti bed too late and I slept in this morning much longer than I had planned. I have a lot of work at Toyland today and I want to get started. I have work on a couple of ROBERTA scores y be scanned and converted to pdf files. I'm in a quandary about DEAREST ENEMY orchestra parts for the recording, so I have to  settle on what we'll do about it today.

I need to make the bed and get out.

Hunting passions:  The usual.  Books, records, music, first and foremost.  Something for the wall.  Nice small things.  Really, whatever appeals, and you often don't know what appeals till you see it.  In my area, estate sales are just a bit less unruly, but I hear nightmare stories about those closer in to the city -- particularly from a friend on Long Island who has had some incredibly wonderful finds whilst suffering similar kinds of heartbreak at the hands of the vultures.

I'm off to the beautiful old Lafayette Theater wherest I will be treated to a movie I've never seen called "Dead End" (1937), along with a well chosen cartoon, perhaps a vintage trailer, all at the extremely capable hands of Peter Appruzzese, Projectionist Supremo.  A Saturday morning treat.

Home for a bit between events.  Rehearsal for Grease was fun and went well.  Tonight is the official opening of Annie which is going fine.  Love the show and our cast and orchestra, but have been REALLY tired this week.  Usually, tech week doesn't get to me with the long hours and such, but this time, it nearly killed me.  So, tomorrow after the matinee, I plan to have dinner and crash.  Tonight, a few of my pals from the cast and I will head over to the Four Seasons for a drink and whatever the DP decides to put in front of us.  It'll be another late night.  Ah, the joys of the theatre!

The brilliant actor Lou Liberatore [Tony nominee for his amazing performance in BURN THIS] was also on jury duty.

You could tell who the intense theater fans were, because when his name was announced in the general roll call, you could see some people quickly looking as he went into the jurors area.

Actually, it was the first time that TAO did Cannibal! The Musical! in 2006.  We had drag queen Indians instead of Japanese Indians (like it was done in the original movie).  I had done drag before, but my legs had always been covered up, so I never had to worry about it.  This time, I got some Spanx and we were given some fishnet stockings.  We were quite fetching...if I do say so myself. ;)

LOL George.  I'm sure they didn't make you feel grown up like they did for me.  I remember my first pair of heels that went with the stockings.  After going to a nice restaurant with my family we decided to go to a movie.  I thought I looked at least my age and the theater would not let me in as a child.  I was disappointed when my father chuckled at me & purchased the under 12 ticket.

Years later I was still paying for a child's ticket until Keith & I began dating.  He was too embarrassed & honorable to do it. ;D

Saturday morning greetings!  We're having some down time today.  Mom is still sleeping and I'm trying to be quiet.  This is the actual 50th wedding that we'll celebrate tomorrow.  On this day in 1962, my sister and her husband were married and I wore nylon stockings for the first time as their junior bridesmaid.  I know - TMI...

Not TMI, it is cute. :)  Wearing nylons for the first time was exciting.

I remember my first time. :D

LOL, DR George!  Thanks for sharing...

My sister and I had a delightful afternoon, lunching at Applebee's and then shopping a bit.  Mom and niece Laura (her only granddaughter) had a nice visit and picnic lunch here in our hotel room.  We've just returned from dinner at La Fajita - my sister and her husband, their son and daughter, son's girlfriend, and Mom and me.  We're all looking forward to the reception tomorrow between church services and a lunch out with even more extended family.

Has anybody heard of a book due out mid-may called Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein?

It's supposed to be sort of a YA/historical book (do those two mix?). I wasn't sure if it sounded like something I'd like. But it's been getting a lot of praise. Today netgalley sent an autoapprove for the ebook. I was still unsure. But then I checked my friends list on goodsread and one of my favorite YA authors absolutely loved it.  And since I think she is amazing I asked for it on netgalley (should be on my kindle now).

Dinner of sauteed cod, zucchini with green garlic, mushrooms with olive salad and cole slaw quite nice. I think I need another nap.

It looks good.  I don't see an eBook.  I'll watch for your report on it.

I just watched last night's episode of GRIMM, which was based on the three billy goats gruff and the troll at the bridge. I think I'll get ready for bed.

My niece is picking us up for church at 8:45 in the morning.  Mom has already crashed for the night and I'm not far behind.

'night!

I got a few pages written tonight, but I'm unfocused and fading. Hopefully tomorrow.

Tonight, I worked concessions for a performance of the Olympia Chamber Orchestra, which featured Opera Pacifica (a local opera company) and selections from "La Traviata" in concert.

We didn't get much business...we were told that there were only about 40 tickets pre-sold. :-\

I think that about 100 showed up...a lot of the tickets were comps for family members.

Given all the theater activity tonight, I might as well report that I played pit piano in a "Bye Bye Birdie".  It's an amateur production, so I am suitably embarrassed.  I did it for the MOOney.

Well, well, well - I'm home very late after a very long STAGE benefit and what do I find?  Our lowest posting day EVER for this board and so I'm going to just say this:

EDIT: I just deleted I wrote, but I think you can probably figure out what it was.  Want this board to continue?  That's the basic and simple question - or everyone can just play on Facebook, which is NOTHING like this board, but if that's what everyone wants, you are all welcome to it.  Four pages and not even four complete pages does not cut the mustard or the mayo or the ketchup and I will not allow this board to trickle down into nothingness.  Truly.
