Well, you've read the notes, the notes were lusty and so tomorrow, and now it is time for you to post until the lusty cows come home.

Last night I loaded all the Anthony Trollope books I could find on to my ereader. I already have lots of books on the device but now I have even more. He was prolific. John G. mentions Trollope and a couple of years ago we watched some British adaptations of his work and I was intrigued. I found much of his work on Gutenberg and ManyBooks.net so it was easy to download them. I don't have a lot of the nonfiction writing, though I do have some of his travel work, North America Volumes 1 and 2 and some others. It will take a long time to read it all but now I have it so let the reading begin.

Good morning, all! I am up and moving about, I've ttaken care of my online banking, caught up on the posts and had my first cup of coffee. I have  very little to report beyond that at the moment.

This morning, I am meeting my colleague Curtis at Toyland. We're cleaning out the storage area, pitching a lot of empty cartons we've accumulated over ten years, and getting the place organized for our May 17 summit conference with the powers shutting us down. Since Toyland is now rubble, I have no idea what the Institute will pack up and ship to California, Cambridge, Library of Congress, or the nearest dump.

I'm hoping that he and I can purchase the office equipment, furniture, printers (all on their last legs), binder, for our new office (keep them office vibes coming!) since I can't imagine the Institute would want to haul it off and store it somewhere. We do want the place looking good for the summit meeting.

If the rain stops and the weather dries up, after locking down Toyland, I may cart the masters of the full scorefor DEAREST ENEMY over to Rodgers & Hammerstein, which is a block away from Toyland.

More coffee!

Ben, I hope you enjoy the Trollope novels. One word of advice: Get the order of the two series, Palliser and Barsetshire, so you can follow those as the great story unfolds. I  don't know how many you'll want to read, but I hope you enjoy them.

TOD: My favorite movie theater candy as a kid was Sno-Caps, chocolate dipped in nonpareils. I haven't had those in decades. A box of them would definitely be verboten on my diet, but I would like to try one or two just to see if they are still pleasing to me.

When I started getting the books I looked around and found a list of the Palliser and Barsetshire Collections. I have put them in a "collection" on the reader so I can read them in the order they were written.

It's raining in Manhattan also.

Apparently there are Occupy plans today. Union Square Park is one of the main locations. I work half a block from USP. As I came to the office I noticed barricades. I assume when I go out for lunch there will be a large police presence as well.

Larry, be prepared for some subway disruptions. I don't know what the plans are but according to news stories they are going to try and shut down some parts of the city.

The play is pure tabloid trash. But many people consider Traci Bennet's performance amazing. I am not in that group. She does a good job but it's not remotely Judy. I do like Michael Cumpsty and was glad to see he got a nomination.

To me, the biggest surprise of the nominations was the lack of a nomination for "One Man, Two Guvnors" for best play. I guess Michael Riedel doesn't have the clout he thinks he has.

What Goes Around Department:

LONDON -- Rupert Murdoch is "not a fit person" to exercise stewardship of a major international company, a committee of British pols have concluded.

The politicians' report is highly critical of the tycoon and his son's role in the News of the World phone-hacking affair.

The culture, media and sport select committee said that James Murdoch, until recently executive chairman and chairman of News International and BSkyB, showed wilful ignorance of the extent of phone hacking during 2009 and 2010.

I wonder what the Murdoch ruling will mean. Some have said it will lead to his losing his license to practice, but the stories I've read haven't been that explicit.

Ruling may not be the right word. Report is probably more like it.

That was a surprise, but not as much a surprise as Bonnie and Clyde getting a nomination for Best Score. Laura Osnes as Best Actress in a Musical is not so surprising, she's a wonderful actor and from what I hear (I didn't see the show) she was a saving grace in the production but Best Score?!?

I just read that "Peter and the Starcatcher" (the play) only has two songs and underscoring, yet it was nominated for "Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre."

I'd also read that "Once" couldn't be nominated for Best Score because it all came from the movie.  I wonder how much had to be new for "Newsies" (or any other show based on a movie musical) to be eligible?

BP's Honorary Tony is the

Isabelle Stevenson Award

The award was created in 2009 (Stevenson died in 2003 at age 90) and it recognizes individuals in the theater community who have contributed to charity or other humanitarian or social causes. BP is very involved in Broadway Barks, the annual fundraiser for shelter animals, and her work with Broadway Cares and the Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative.

A Special Tony Award is going to

Hugh Jackman

According to the American Theatre Wing HJ is getting this award

"for his contributions to the Broadway community"

in essence, a thank you for all the money he has raised for various charities and for the exposure he has brought to Broadway.

and because of their upcoming 100th Anniversary

Actors’ Equity Association

is also receiving a Special Tony Award.

That's great for Bernadette, even though I'm not the biggest Bernadette fan and I'm happy for Actor's Equity being recognized.  As for Hugh, I'm still not convinced.

Some info is now clicking into place about the "audition song" we'd done for the OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES show.  The writer in an interview yesterday explained that they had abandoned the idea of the focus being Jewish humor as a healing force for the pain in life - but the script we had gotten said the number we were being asked to write was specifically about humor as Jewish novocaine.  OY!!!!!!!!  AND VEY!!!!!!!!!  :)

Ah well, we put up this song on YouTube anyway in tribute to the exciting visibility of Jewish-influenced humor on the legit stage right now, and wish love and luck to all the friends and colleagues and even fellow Brooklyn-ites involved with the show.)

[Thanks to BK for the expression "Oy and vey" by the way.  :)  ]

Here's our video in tribute:  A JEW WITH A JOKE (or, PUT YOUR PAIN IN THE HANDS OF A JEW)

Holy Crap Department:  the arborists/tree service are/is here and are chopping away at branches to open up our view.  One of the guys threw a rope over a branch from our deck and then swung out to the tree.  I am sweaty just watching them.
Maybe he's trying out for the Tony nominated "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark."

I seem to recall reading something about needing six new songs, but I'm sure it's always a case of what the nominating committee decides.

The best score nominations are a real kick in the butt of "Leap of Faith" as well as "Ghost," "Spider-Man," and "Lysistrata," with their full original scores.

It may turn into another excuse for producers to do more jukebox shows, with such a slap in the face to new scores, though I certainly hope it doesn;t turn into that

Thanks for the warning! I'm about ready to head out.

What Goes Around Department:

LONDON -- Rupert Murdoch is "not a fit person" to exercise stewardship of a major international company, a committee of British pols have concluded.

The politicians' report is highly critical of the tycoon and his son's role in the News of the World phone-hacking affair.

The culture, media and sport select committee said that James Murdoch, until recently executive chairman and chairman of News International and BSkyB, showed wilful ignorance of the extent of phone hacking during 2009 and 2010.

it was a very political report with only the opposition Labour Party members being critical of Rupert Murdoch. The ruling Conservative party MPs didn't go along with it.

I have a question. What do you do if you find a bird's nest on top of a big round light next to a door? It is the oddest sight. Is there a way to check if there is anything in it (like eggs). Would turning the light on help/hinder?  If it was empty i would probably remove it (it can't stay where it is). But i am afraid to touch it.

Had an appointment at the Genius Bar at Apple - I wanted to see the best way to get stuff from my laptop onto my desktop - it's so easy now it's ridiculous - thanks to something in the Lion operating system called Air Drop.  You just drag stuff there and it immediately shows up in Air Drop on the other computer - you drag it onto your desktop and voila.

Can you get a ladder and look inside without disturbing it?

Trying something new  tonight that I picked up at the farmers market: Duck eggs. The farmer said you used them the same as regular eggs only they were larger and had larger yolks. That they did. A frittata is baking in the oven now.

It's not that high. If i put my glasses on and got a big chair or small ladder i could see in.

If there is nothing in there i am guessing it is alright to move it? But what do i do if there is something in there?  It is the strangest place i have ever seen a nest. But I really don't think i can leave it. The light needs to be turned on. And i'm scared something is gonna fly out of there when i open the door.

DS Bryan likes ducks eggs very much.  A few years back we were given some fresh from the ducks.  I think I should have done something besides scramble them.  I didn't request more eggs.

If eggs are in there I would leave them and watch for the mother/parents and use a flashlight instead of the porch light.  I've had birds nest that close to the door and it is worrisome.

VIBES THE NEST IS EGG FREE!!!

DR Jennifer the sooner you check the less chance there are eggs in there.  It is best, from now on, to watch for the nest being built and destroy it before it is finished.

If there are eggs in there then what does one do? Watch for the mother and do what?

If there are no eggs then i feel bad taking down the nest. But really how can you think building a nest on top of a light is a good idea? :)  There are so many trees!

I will check tomorrow.  This is the first time i saw it (when i went to use the BBQ). I was shocked. It hasn't been very nice here for the past week. So it could have been done any time in between.

DR Cillalilz did you see last night's DANCING WITH THE STARS?  I think they are all fairly decent (besides Melissa). But i think last night the choreography was the star. Namely Derek. That routine he did (with the vampire) was unbelievable.

To me sometimes a dancer can be quite good (but not quite as good as some) yet the choreography can be excellent. That can make a big difference. Loved it.

Me too. How long would it take for them to hatch if there are eggs in there?  I would not want to move them. But really it is such a bad place for a nest.

Let us know what your find.  Other's more qualified might have something to say.  We have had similar experiences and just did our best not to disturb the eggs or babies until after they were gone.  Then we pulled down the nest and made sure a new one wasn't built in the same area.

Bad if you turn the light on or bad as in not stable?

I'll let you know tomorrow. Maybe DR Laura will know what to do. I didn't look today because it was drizzling. And i didn't have my glasses on. So i would have had to stick my face right in there to get a look. :)

Watch for action in the morning before you peek.   If you can't easily see the birds I doubt they will fly out at you, still it isn't a bad idea to be cautious.  Do you have a mirror on a long handle ;)

Well bad because it is right on top of the door. And on top of a light. The light is only like 6 inches long. Not too big. And yah there is the light. I don't know if turning it on would harm them.

Has the light already been turned on?  I would think that if there are eggs in there, the bird has (somehow) decided that it's not a problem.  Just my 2¢.

The light has not been turned on in the last week.  Who knows since it's been cool out maybe it would be comfy with some heat.

I think it would be ok to destroy the nest if there are no eggs. But if there are eggs and you move it, I think the parents would abandon it.

In the US, I believe it is not legal to destroy a nest once there are eggs if it is a migratory or native bird. Non-native invasive species (like pigeon) wouldn't be protected here.

Is a few weeks all it would take if there are eggs?

I could leave the light off.  But it is a really bad place for a nest (so close to the door). Anyhow I'll check it first. I guess if there are no eggs i'll take it down. And if there are eggs i'll have to live with it there.  It seems sort of crazy to me that the birds were able to balance their twigs and stuff on top of that light. Hope it doesn't break off.
