Good morning, all! I awoke at 3am and could not get back to sleep. Arpund 4:30,  I figured to hell with it and got out of bed. I've showered, dressed, done my banking and I'm on my firs cup of coffee. Now I'm wondering how the hell I'll stay awake today.  It's going to be a long one.

Sounds like it's raining outside, so I'll have a wet trip to Toyland. I have to wait for a delivery and continue taping band parts. After that, I will stop at the Kinko's on West 34th Street to order more cardstock. Hopefully, I'll be home to catch a bit of a nap before I head out to Bruce Pomahac's for our dinner date with Alyce Mott, who's been really positive and supportive of the two Herbert recordings in her Victor Herbert newsletter.

Media:

CDs:  tons of Hugo Montenegro, this week's obsession.  :)  And those gorgeous Doc - Hank duet albums.  Wow.

Blu-rays:  Too many review items to even count.  Working on a sort of silly anime based on a video game.  Just reviewed The Grey yesterday, better than I expected it to be.

TV:  we've been watching tons of old British mysteries via Netflix and Amazon Instant Video.  Ended up despising the second episode of SHERLOCK, and remembered why I stopped watching it--so very, very predictable and silly with regard to leaving people unattended just so they can be murdered LOL.  We watched one of the McEwen Marples last night--don't really like these rewrites they did for this iteration.

Today I am meeting my repair contractor to get all of the imperious demands by the buyers taken care of.  It's all pretty picayune stuff--we're pretty sure these are very young buyers, probably getting their first house.  The stuff they want "fixed" ain't really broken.  ;)

The MTA and their moronic bus route juggling do not make it easy to get to the Javitz Center, which is at 34th and 12th Avenue. I ended up taking the wrong 34th Street bus - yes, there are two of them and one turns onto 8th Avenue rather than continuing to 12th - and taking a taxi after my busride of one block. When I got there, nothing seemed right.  The manager of the FedEx/Kinko wasn't there to help, after we;d spoken earlier in the week and I told her I would see her this morning. I didn't like the 100 lb card stock they had, and I am still in a paper dilemma.

I did get to the pharmacy for my meds, and I hope this Office Depot delivery arrives by noon.

I am not feeling too well today. It really came completely out of the blue. Went for a bike ride yesterday. Felt fine. And then in the evening my throat just started hurting. And by the time i went to bed it was killing. So odd for me.

I took motrin and it feels a bit better. And i turned on the humifier which i had forgotten to turn on for a couple of weeks. So hopefully that helps.

Unfortunately i have a little guest today.  My niece has been fighting a bug (she threw up on sunday night, has had a mild fever and now a cough). She is a handful. All i want to do is lie down. I was able to do while she watched a dvd. But then she jumped on my bed saying "hungry! I"m hungry".

At least she still takes a 2 hour nap in the afternoon. So i will be able to sleep then.

I am trying to ptint and tape orchestra parts for an August recording in Dublin of a Rodgers & Hart show, DEAREST ENEMY.  This has been a really bad day of events. I am so glad I didn't buy the 2000 sheets of cardstock at Kinko's!

I finessed the patter, so that's done, and I wrote a first draft of what will be the first guest author blog on the Author House site - they asked me because with twelve books in twelve years I am their most published living author (they publish the works of Harold Robbins, but he's, you know, dead and I'm not sure he wrote twelve books - did he?).

Things that make you go "hmmm" department:  I still get email notifications when someone emails one of my old DVDTalk reviews, and I just received notification that someone emailed a link to a Joan Crawford set review I did to someone at this organization:

Just read the notes really quick before I leave... bk, why, pray tell, are you listening to Bonnie and Clyde?  And please, let us know what you think and hold nothing back.  (which we all know you NEVER do and we love you for it!)

I did the math and realized that in a little more than a week I will have been at my current job a full year. And I still haven't been made an employee. None of the contractors have. But I'm still employed, so I'm grateful for that.

I think I want to go to the movies this weekend, if I can find the time. "Bernie" opens  today and you can definitely see my friend Deb in the previews. (I'm sitting next to her, so it will be fun to see the context of all the scenes we filmed.) I also want to see all the Brits in the "Marigold Hotel" thing. Sounds like the kind of movie I love. Two "Downton Abbey" stars and  Judi Dench. They could be reading the ingredient labels of tofu products and I'd probably watch.

Wow, don't miss that performance.
A restaurant here is actually serving a tofu creme brulee. The sound of that made me gag.

This tofu lover agrees with you ;D   I wish you would try it and let me know if you really gag.
Thanks. Life's too short to eat tofu creme brulee.

More places hire contractors now than ever before.  DS Craig has a part time contracting job which is nice.  They are located in Maryland & he can do the work from here.  He still plans to do work for them when he returns to school.

I understand that, which is why I'm still grateful. But the parent company has so many better benefits that greedy little me wants more. And they have also been exceptionally good about giving me time off when i've needed it for both vacation and the surgery (better than the contract company), and that's a plus.

I am back from a lovely visit and listen to the recording of EILEEN. After that, we went to the West Bank Cafe, where I had a delicious salmon on a bed of fava beans and asparagus.

I am heading for bed. I am exhausted and I must do laundry tomorrow. Or sleep in. I haven't decided yet.

Friday evening greetings!  It's been a long, but fun, day.  Becky and I left here at 7:45 this morning to attend a half-day workshop on paperwork management at Dayton Art Institute.  Shortly after I got home, Rob arrived and Mary Linda joined him here after work.  We all ate pizza for dinner and then watched the live stream of the grad school commencement from Georgia Tech where her brother Addison received his Master of Science in Aeronautical Engineering.

I was contacted by the label that released Bonnie and Clyde - they seemed to think I was a "reviewer" and that this here site was influential - the latter, of course, is true and I have a funny and pathetic story that illuminates that for tomorrow's notes - I told her that I write my thoughts on things and that we get millions of hits a year and that if she wanted to send it I'd be happy to listen and write about it - and I told her exactly that I hold nothing back.

*After I finish this huge bowl of Stew Leonard's mint chocolate chip ice cream with Fox's U-bet chocolate syrup drizzled all too generously over it.  Like I needed this.  But cravings are just too fun to give into sometimes.
