Good morning, all! I was dreaming about performing in a play with several of the singers on the Herbert songs when I awoke. I remember little else now.
This afternoon I have a coffee date with critic Andy Propst at 4:30 and a party at Steve Ross' after that. The guests of honor are Sheila Smith, George S. Irving, and Jack Lee. So, firstthing this morning, I am off to Toyland to use the office compuuter to burn some DEAREST ENEMY files. Then I can turn everything in to Rodgers & Hammerstein and consider the work on the score completed.
Well this is pretty cool...HERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8KC7a4K3cI&feature=related) is a live TV performance of Julie Andrews singing "Show Me." I love the staging! That was fun. And wasn't that the year the movie version of "My Fair Lady" came out without Julie?
And the word of the day is: PHATIC!
Sunday Show Vibes for DR GEORGE.
Today at 3 p.m. EDST is the first session of auditions for THE CURIOUS SAVAGE which I am directing. I hope to have a good turnout today....although I also have another session tomorrow at 7 p.m.
No, I didn't notice that they are the same. I didn't read the complete Chicago review. Yes, the NJ review is a bit full of itself isn't it. I do like Miss Gyllenhaal. I'll have to see the movie.

DR JRand61, best of luck with the auditions! I hope all the roles are easily filled and that none of your betes noirs show up to plague you!

You'll have to see it for the great Gemma Jones, too!
May I just say that people on the internet are idiots (technical term) sometimes. A self appointed expert who went after me about To Kill a Mockingbird (until everyone from BK to Robert A. Harris disagreed with him) is now on a tear about The Sting. I truly do not get why some people are so exercised about things like this.
I saw "When a Stranger Calls" at the theatre when it came out and was very confident that it wouldn't scare me because I thought I knew what the kicker was with the movie. What I didn't realize was that it was only the first 20 minutes. It was all unknown and all suspense after that. When I got home that night after feeling like I'd had a heart attack in the theatre (I don't handle these things well), I would not let my dog leave my side for the rest of the evening. I think I may even just carried her around the house with me while I locked all the doors.
I think Colleen Dewhurst portrayed the perfect picture of loneliness in that movie, and there's an image of her walking home from the bar (near Bunker Hill maybe?) that still haunts me.
DR Ben, thanks for last night's HYSTERIA reviews. Did you notice that two of them, from Chicago and LA, are the same? The New Jersey review irritated me with its superior attitude; the film is much better than that pompous ass makes it appear. DR Gerge will love it for Ms Criswell's scenes, if nothing else. I'd never seen Maggie Gyllenhaal in anything before, and I thought she was quite wonderful.
Sunday afternoon greetings from Dayton International Airport! We are here in plenty of time for our 4pm flight to NYC. Bags are checked and security was relatively painless.
When is BK's New York book signing?
Thanks, DR TCB! We'll probably see DR Elmore on Tuesday - wonder who else might be around to play with. Ben? Vixmom? FJL?
I have never seen "When a Stranger Calls." I will have to rectify that. But not until after Italy.

I think you should all go up to Long Island, and drag vixmom out of her office!
For a moment I thought today's title was a reference to former Utah Senator Jake Garn. :)
Jake was an officer of my father's and he and my Dad managed to save Utah's Fort Douglas from being bulldozed in the 1970s. Some of the Fort had to be given up to the encroaching University of Utah, but the bulk of the most historic buildings (including my Dad's museum) are still there and they're lovely.

When is Italy?
At today's Burgers, BBQ and Beer, this pretty little possum put in an appearance.
I had only six people this afternoon, but all of them were very good.....and so I could cast HALF the show already...
Then I had a sandwich and onion rings - pretty out, but VERY hot, and my allergies are acting up.
Greetings from Times Square! Our flight was smooth and we arrived here at our hotel exactly 12 hours from when we left home this morning. Going to the Dayton airport from our house by way of Lima is kind of the long way around...
Thanks for all the travel vibes - they worked beautifully!
You could have driven it in those same 12 hours, give or take one. 8)

The party was interesting. Sheila Smith and her husband were great and I love the great MD Jack Lee. I have worked with George S. Irving and I love his work, but i don't think I like him much personally. I hd nice visits with Michael Feingold and Jack Lee. I saw Zak Stains there. At the end of the night we saw a new documentary about Doris Eaton Travis, who died last year at 106. Her first Broadway show was the Zeigfeld Follies of 1918. Her sister Mary Eaton sang the Victor Herbert song "When The Right One Comes Along" in the Follies.Sounds like fun.

So far - so good.
It is 90 degrees here! Very Warm for May.
I was happy about the winner of Celebrity Apprentice.

George, one assumes the stage adaptation is somewhat longer than the "source novel". ;)
I am hurting, quite a bit, at the moment. I thnk I will go back to bed.
I met my friend this morning to see "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel." I really loved it! Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Penelope Wilton (Dame Maggie's nemesis on "Downton Abbey) are all great!
I just read Robin Gibb lost his battle with cancer. :(
Back from "Gypsy" which was damned good. Sadly, the establishment worships at the altar of total amplification so that NOW EVERYTHING SOUNDS LIKE THIS. It sounds to me like they've got a quality system, but everything IS TURNED UP TO 11 AND THERE IS NO NUANCE OR RELIEF WHATEVER.
Listening to the first part of our master. One track has VERY bad wow and flutter, so I've suggested a little edit of thirty seconds that remove all of it - if he can do that smoothly that will be very helpful. It's a wonderful score from a classic low-budget sci-fi film, with a score composed by Hugo Friedhofer, Franz Waxman, Aaron Copland, Leith Stevens, Victor Young, Hans J. Salter, and a few others. Yes, you read that right.
Happily our booklet not only tells you who wrote what but also what films and cues the originals are.
Did anyone see the eclipse? We went outside to see what we could see, which was nothing, and looked right at the sun. ::) I'm still seeing spots.
Here's the poster for JUBILEE in London.
Eclipse?
Eclipse?
Look what I just found - and elmore was with the author this very evening:
