Title: THE DANISH AND THE SWEDISH - TOGETHER AGAIN
Post by: bk on May 30, 2012, 12:21:00 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a little bit Danish and a little bit Swedish, and now it is time for you to post until the Danish and Swedish cows come home.

Good morning, all  I stayed up too late watching tv, so I slept in until 7:30, since this is a day when I don't venture too far from the apartment.

I have phone calls to make this morning, one about a colonoscopy and one to Joshie, but most of my day will be centered on the computer, trying to make sense of my notes for EILEEN. There's not much else to report.

Im Westen nichts Neues!

I moved one actress into the lead (she hadn't been blocked yet in any scenes) and brought in another to play her smaller role....so we shall see....

I had two - first LYceum 7 and then the one I still have VErnon 1....although it is now 831.

CApitol something - Columbus, OH
BElmont-5-5817 - Columbus - actually Whitehall, then Bexley
LUdlow-3-2287 - Plantation, FL
JAckson-2-4162 - Ft. Lauderdale, FL
JAckson-2-8636 - same

This takes us from the early 50s to early 60s, whereupon that last one became 522-8636, and that was the end of it.  Wasn't this about the same time zip codes were implemented?  Fort Lauderdale 12, Florida became 33312.  Sad, ain't it?

I have been to the vampire's lab for a blood test.  They tried to tell me that I wasn't due for a retest for 2 weeks, but I told them that my doctor's office told me to have it as soon as I returned from vacation.  They had to call the office to get a new order.  Like it's so much fun, I'd go in more often than absolutely necessary...

Well, I already have Happiness Is. . . (a story about that in a mo).

Yesterday, I got Love is Blue and Popular Music Hit Parade.

Re:  Happiness Is. . .  I got sucked into this because I had been searching for Hank Levine albums after having gotten the latest volume of the "Every pop instrumental hit" series, this one for 1961.  That in turn led me to a YouTube page which had a Levine arrangement of "Feelin' Groovy", ostensibly from a Reader's Digest set called Up, Up and Away. . .with the Happy Hits of Today.  When searching for that on eBay, all that came up was another RD set, called Happiness Is. . .Up, Up and Away with the Hits of Today.  Isn't that odd?

Re: THE BRIDGE

The Oresund Bridge is a wonderful engineering feat. I travelled across it by rail from Copenhagen to Malmo (it's a road and rail bridge) shortly after it was completed. It's Europe's longest bridge and what is also remarkable is that it's part tunnel, part bridge and exits the tunnel on a man-made island in the strait to become a bridge. From a distance it appears to miraculously arise out of the water.

Richard and I are now members of the new YMCA that's out by the hospital where I did my cardiac rehab.  I decided before we left for our trip that walking 'round and 'round in the basement was getting pretty boring.  The tendonitis that developed in my left ankle is much better, but I think some water activities might be a good idea to reduce the impact.

I had a nice call last night from a journalist in India who writes for a "prominent daily" (as she put it). She wanted to interview me regarding my Bollywood blog and my interest in Hindi films...Indians are always very surprised to find Americans who like Bollywood.

It was a fun interview, even if very little of what I said was used. And some of what I said was misquoted (I really haven't seen a thousand Hindi films, not yet, and I don't know the Hindi language quite as well as the article makes it sound)...but it is a fun read and I am certainly honored that anyone would want to call clear across the world to get my input on the subject  :)  And the interviewer was very sweet and complimentary.

You can read the article online here, if you like: http://www.indianexpress.com/news/desi-films-foreign-fans/955763/ (http://www.indianexpress.com/news/desi-films-foreign-fans/955763/)

Page three???  Perhaps if I mention the title that I may be able to give the Kritzerland remix treatment to that will get some posting going?  I do know Jane is not with us, but still...

So, while this is not 100% yet (the licensing has been cleared and they have the original eight-track session tapes - we're just trying to figure out how to get them to me - whether they do the work in making a Pro Tools session or whether we do) - the big question will be HOW this was recorded and how much separation there is between band and vocalists, but I think we're going to at least try it - it's generally considered to be one of the most frustrating cast albums ever released, not only because of the many cuts to the score (which we can do nothing about) but because the mix was done hastily and has always sounded weird and pretty bad.  The frustrating part is the cast, which will never be bettered and therefore this is still the definitive cast album for this title even with its flaws.  That said - if I can remix and smooth it out and make it at least sound much better, then it's worth doing, don't you think?

Can anyone guess the title?

FOLLIES, a lousy recordng of a production that's never been topped by any other production since.

They thought he was in remission but the doctors called him back to Houston for more tests.  His family is in fear that the tests will prove the cancer wasn't completely caught. He could sure use some mega vibes and prayers! I'll start.

Evening all!  I hope all travelers are at their destination of choice, safe and happy!

Vibes to one and all as well!

I mentioned that special pillow the other day.   I decided that I  wanted to try  the queen size--just to see if there was any difference. Well. I fell in love with it too.  I could take the standard size back but made another decision to keep it as well.  I think it will make an excellent travel pillow and I can also use it when I go for my sleep studies.  It says it is a standard size but it's smaller than that.  Plenty of room in my standard pillow cases so it will be easy to pack when the next trip comes around.  Oddly enough, the queen size (while somewhat bigger) still fits the standard size pillow case as well.

I can't believe the difference in my sleep.  It's only been a week but I am so rested.

The cost of appearing on the Tonys has gone up. According to Playbill.com:

A number from Leap of Faith, the short-lived Broadway musical about a con-man preacher that received a Tony nomination for Best Musical prior to its final performance May 13, will be seen on the 66th Annual Tony Awards.

The New York Times reports that producers of the musical, which featured a score by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater and libretto by Warren Leight and original screenwriter Janus Cercone, have raised $150,000 in order for the show to perform on the annual broadcast.

Hi Vixmom-
Am having dinner with my producer-friend tomorrow night...will ask her for more details.
It is a ridiculous amount of $, and I was shocked when I was told.

thank you!

As we were leaving the theatre we were talking about wanting to buy the OBC recording --- which I assume will not be forthcoming....

unless that is the reason for the producers wanting to be on the Tonys

One of my favorite quotes from the movie takes place when Barnabus Collins, the vampire, escapes after being entombed for 200 years. He was horrified by the sight of McDonalds...that big letter M and those yellow arches....his reaction was priceless...

"Satan! Mock me not with your strange luminence!"

I was disappointed in the other film...great cast, bad screenplay, silly plot, very contrived.
What a waste.

I have the "this time last week I was in New York" blues.  Think I'll try to sleep it off - night!

There will be an album. Label hasn't been announced, but I think Menken is footing the bill himself.

Don't know "The Big Knife" but it sounds great.  Aldrich, too.

Finished with my viewing, an all The Bridge evening - four episodes - compulsively addictive.  And so far no bad episodes or missteps, although they just killed a character I REALLY liked.  So, my hatred of whoever the villain is just went up 500%.
