Well, you've read the notes, the notes were very que sera sera, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently singing Whatever Will Moo, Will Moo.

Morning all.  It's 6:07 AM here as I type this.  I had a Doctor appt last night and didn't get home until almost eight thirty.  Then there was all the news on FB about the new baby.  I'm a great, great Aunt again!

There were only 2 of us in the waiting room so the lady and I started talking.  Turns out we both work for the county--and when it came around to who we work for (she works for the Clerk of CC in the accounting dept) she said she knew my boss and that she is "the worst" and "she takes micro managing to a new all time lower level."  I had to agree.  I find that most people who know her are just glad they don't have to work for or with her.

When I told her about us doing payroll she couldn't believe it.  She said the same thing that I've said all along--"Doesn't she know your working out of tittle?"

She told me a bunch of horror stories from other people who have worked for her in the past.  At least I know that it isn't me.  Some people should never be made supervisors.

That's my rant for the day.

TGIF!!!!  Vibes to all who need them and have a wonderful day!!!

Last night's opening night of CLUE: THE MUSICAL went very well with MANY people in attendance.....about 157 - which is 2/3rds of a house....and tonight there are only 10 tickets left on the book....so they should have a great audience.

And the audience was very enthusiastic, even though Mr Boddy messed up one of the clues....oh well.

It looks like we will have a good run!

Except, alas, for we who will be here.  I have the most wonderful memories of the Nuart, mostly from the 1970s, and would give anything to be there for this tonight.

TOD:

DVD: "The Hound of the Baskervilles" Russian TV adaptation. I don't know what to make of this. Dialogue is very true to the original and Dr Watson is well cast but some of the performances are a bit odd, with too much humour given to the characters. Locations look nothing like England which strains credibility and there's an overall gloominess in the interior settings.  Good efforts have been made to include English language newspapers, street signs etc. I'll say it is "interesting" and leave it at that.

Blu-ray: Blue Velvet. I got the American version which contains more extras than the version available here in the U.K. It came in one of those awful eco cases full of holes, which I instantly threw away and replaced with a solid Amaray case; a stock of which I keep for this purpose!

Good morning, all! I will shortly head down to Social Security and see if this time it takes. I cannot wait to get money back from the government!

I know I had more weird dreams - the last had something to do with Miami University Theatre students, and I remember Mary Templeton, a friend I've not seen in 40 years.

Following Social Security, I will be off to Toyland and I will hopefully finish up my taping. I have a late afternoon appontment to look over some scores at Rodgers & Hammerstein and then I will go to dinner with Bruce Pomahac.

CD -- The Weill album DR Elmore had recommended -- not heard yet due to the distractions of yesterday, but it's in the player, waiting.

Blu-ray -- "Don't Look Now", UK release, because we don't have it at all on Blu-ray, and the old US DVD is bare bones without the extra features, commentary, etc.

DVD:
More episodes of the John Gavin TV western DESTRY. It is quite an enjoyable show, although it's obviously trying to be MAVERICK. Gavin is very humorous. Who knew?

Tammy Grimes, who I have heard mentioned her many times, was in the first episode. I loved her!

DVR:
Coincidently, I have the film version of DESTRY (Audie Murphy, Lori Nelson, Mari Blanchard) recorded, so I might give it a watch also.

Got the response - predictable and all about the respondee rather than what it should be about, which is how someone ELSE is being made to feel - whether that's real or not is not the issue - it's been explained clearly and that's all one can do.  So, I'm afraid I'll be getting off the Melodyland merry-go-round, probably for good.  It's not really to do with her - it's her folks and doing a 180 on what has been a very close friendship - all they ever had to do during any of this was say "Hey, the next month is really busy, but let's make a plan right after that."  But that's not what I was hearing and they way they were doing what they were doing was crazy-making and I tried gently to tell them that.  It's a shame - I've done nothing but try to keep their daughter in the spotlight, make an incredible act for her, give her a CD, and give her incredible material month after month.  I cannot see where anyone else has done anything like that for her - in fact, she's had one professional job in the entire year and a half I've been working for her, outside of what we've done.  Oh, well - sad, but there you are.

It looks like the Follies remix is happening - I should have the Pro Tools session transfer next week - unless we absolutely cannot make it better than the original, I'm doing it.  If we can't, it was worth at least trying.  Sondheim has been apprised and hopes we can make it better.

Do we send our money now?

Sorry to hear this, BK.

Tomorrow morning I am going to see DR Samantha.  We are going to have lunch and I'll take her both her birthday present and the presents I bought for her baby shower.   She's due June 21 and I told her I'd like to come up to spend some time with her before the baby is born.   Honestly, I don't think we've done anything without at least part of the family there since we went to NYC.  We originally planned it for Sunday but she needed to reschedule for tomorrow.  I'm very glad that she wanted to reschedule instead of cancel.   Her due date is the 21st now.  So, if we couldn't do it now, I'm not sure when we would do it.

I have to laugh.  Last time I saw Cathy Rigby in Seattle, after the show she told me this was her final tour of the show.  She said it was just getting too tough to do, night after night.  This was , I believe, in 2004.  Now she is closing in on 60, and she decides to tour the show again.

I went to Rodgers & Hammerstein to look at the scores for PEGGY-ANN, then Bruce Pomahac, his friend Dominic , and I went to dinner in the Village for a fantastic Italian meal. Dominic, who is from Portsmouth and knows my friend Dminic McHughis writing a book on Rodgers & Hart for the same series that resulted in McHugh's MY FAIR LADY bok. It's all too inbred.

BK, tell Barry hello for me and have a good time. It will do you good to be out and about and then you get to see TFNM! I am so jealous.

I am headed upstairs to get some sleep.  I'm really looking forward to seeing Sam tomorrow.  I wasn't going to tell my mom because I knew she'd pull the "you mean you aren't going to come and see me" stuff.  But I decided she'd probably be more upset if I didn't tell her I was going up there and she found out, so I told her and she said "You mean you aren't coming to see me?" LOL.   She really doesn't care because they are busy tomorrow, btu I KNEW that's what she'd say

So, now I don't have to worry that I'll run into mom and dad at a stop sign.  I really wouldn't mind seeing them, but they monopolize all my time when I'm there.  I don't complain about it, but there are other people I want to see to.  Hopefully tomorrow will just be the beginning of visiting others when I'm up at the lake

Tonight, I worked concessions for a show called, "The Jacket."  It's by a group called Nanda (http://www.nandatown.com/), who are from Port Townsend, Washington.  Click HERE (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/thearts/2016461069_nanda12.html) for an article in the Seattle Times:

Quote
Nanda isn't an act. It's a whole four-man vaudeville show.

Its members juggle, dance, sing, fight, do magic, do acrobatics, do mime, fight some more, make films, steal a suitcase, drive a tank, stop time (while fighting), jump rope, make amusing spelling mistakes, acknowledge they're creating a dramaturgical mess and — did I mention? — fight.

That's "fight" as in "martial arts," which is one reason they describe their act as "acrobaticalist ninja theatre....

The show is just over an hour and it's total non-stop very funny ninja-style fighting and it's hysterical!  They even have their own YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/nandatown/videos) channel. :D

When I got home, two CDs from Japan (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp) were waiting for me in my mailbox.  One is The Manhattan Transfer's Bodies and Souls (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=WPCR-14464).  It has a bonus track!  However, the song, "A Wonderful Dream" really doesn't fit with the rest of the album.  It's like they had this track and didn't know what to do with it, so they stuck it on whatever CD was being re-released next.  It's a good song, just not one that should've been on this album. :-\
Title: Re: WHATEVER WILL BE, WILL BE
Post by: George on June 08, 2012, 11:37:36 PM
The other CD that I got was The Other Side Of Soudheim+4 (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=XQAM-1039)...yup, that's the actual spelling on the website. ::) It's actually a re-release of her The Other Side of Sondheim (http://www.amazon.com/Other-Side-Sondheim-Jane-Harvey/dp/B0002IV8ZG/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1339222834&sr=1-1), but put back the way she originally envisioned the CD to be.  Here's what someone wrote on Amazon about the differences between the original 1988 version and this reissue:

Quote
Jane Harvey Sings Sondheim, just released on the SSJ Label, is NOT a re-reissue of her "The Other Side of Sondheim" that Atlantic Records released a while back. This new CD is the complete 59 minute unexpurgated version, with trio accompaniment including, Mike Renzi, on piano, Grady Tate on drums, and Jay Leonhart on bass . . .all jazz virtuosos in their own right. It was a labor of love for them all, so when Atlantic cut whole songs, and aborted medleys to reduce the package to 43 minutes, it was devastating to all. The decision by Atlantic to have string arrangements overdubbed was another disappointment, because it spoiled the integrity of Harvey's concept of a true jazz vision of composer Stephen Sondheim. However, shortly before Atlantic's Ahmet Ertegun* died, he returned all rights to Jane's Sondheim album to her, and now: the medleys are in tact, the strings have been removed, thus emphasizing the Jazz side of Sondheim. Therefore, this SSJ issue of "Jane Harvey Sings Sondheim" is rightfully considered to be a NEW release. This re-tooled edition, including the singer's 2009 recording of "Send in the Clowns," is now available!

*A side note (not from the Amazon review)...Ahmet Ertegun was the one who discovered The Manhattan Transfer and produced a lot of their early recordings. ;D

What's not as cool is that I just discovered on Amazon that the Jane Harvey reissue has also been released in the US...for less than half the price. :P The Jazz Side Of Sondheim (http://www.amazon.com/The-Jazz-Side-Of-Sondheim/dp/B006UTDH96/ref=ntt_mus_ep_dpi_1) is what it's called.  Oh, well.  I certainly can't return it all the way back to Japan for a refund...and I really like the mini-LP packaging.

I'm getting a haircut this morning.

I have to go to the green market as well and get some apples and whatever else might look good.

Later I will have to come back and read the new notes.

Later, gators.

Every summer I long to be out doors from dawn to dusk --- I told the Vixter I was going to buy a big cooler with wheels and become a "beach girl"  one of those people who drag a  cooler ful lof beer and soda up and down the beach and sell to the sun loving populace
