Well, you've read the notes, the notes were sleepy and Jewish, and now it is time for you to post until the Jewish cows come home.

And here is our new release - it will be live at six in the morning - for those who can't wait, you know what to do:

Kritzerland is pleased to present a new world premiere limited edition soundtrack CD:

ALL IN A NIGHT’S WORK
Music Composed and Conducted by Andre Previn

Once upon a time in a land called Hollywood, major studios churned out wonderful, frothy, fizzy romantic comedies, one after another.  In 1961, Shirley MacLaine was riding high on the success of The Apartment and Dean Martin had become a real leading man after the team of Martin and Lewis had broken up.   They’d already appeared together in Vincente Minnelli’s Some Came Running and Paramount’s production of Career, and because both were terrific comic actors, it was a natural to pair them up in Paramount’s All in a Night’s Work.

All in a Night’s Work was given the lavish, glossy Paramount treatment – everything was top-of-the line – the director was Joseph Anthony (The Rainmaker, The Matchmaker, Career), and the bubbly screenplay was by Edmund Beloin (Visit to a Small Planet, The Sad Sack, Don’t Give Up the Ship), Maurice Richlin (Pillow Talk, Operation Petticoat, Soldier in the Rain, and the classic The Pink Panther), and Sidney Sheldon (Billy Rose’s Jumbo, Pardners).   And, in addition to the two leads, a stellar supporting cast – Cliff Robertson, Jack Weston, Charlie Ruggles, Norma Crane, Jerome Cowan, and Gale Gordon.

The plot kicks off in high style when a mysterious woman is seen running from a ritzy Palm Beach hotel room, wearing only a bath towel and not a very large one at that.   Since the hotel room’s guest, a New York publishing baron, is found dead in bed, the question is who was that lady and was that lady his mistress?  Complications, misunderstandings, mink coats, fancy nightclubs, and, of course, love and a happy ending, and all in glorious Technicolor, set to the romantic, propulsive, and phenomenal music of André Previn.

The main title sets the tone – an upbeat, dynamic, and colorful showpiece for orchestra.  That theme recurs again, but it’s the delicious and beautiful love theme that gets most of the attention, in a large number of guises – it’s instantly memorable and works wonderfully throughout the film – as underscore for romance, shopping, cocktails, dinner and dancing, and yes, more romancing, the kind of romance that only happens in the movies with beautiful music underscoring everything.  There are other equally excellent themes, and the score is just a constant delight of melody and inspiration.

All in a Night’s Work was transferred from the original session masters housed in the Paramount vaults.  The tapes were in excellent condition and in stereo save for two cues that only existed in mono.  The first of those is presented in sequence (track two), and the last, the complete finale, is presented in the bonus tracks section, since we had a shorter version of the finale in stereo.

All in a Night’s Work is limited to 1000 copies only.  The price is $19.98, plus shipping.

CD will ship the last week of July  – however, never fear, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks earlier (we’ve been averaging four weeks early).   To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

I'm very glad Once and Peter and the Starcatcher won awards. I wish P & the S would have won more, including Best Score (even though it's not a musical). I am also very, very glad that Traci Bennett did NOT win for End of the Rainbow. It was 2 hours of my life that I'll never get back. She was spoken of with a very good chance to win. Thankfully, they were wrong. They were wrong about a lot of things. Talk was Follies had it sewn up for Best Revival of a Musical as well.

Oh, Well.

The fridge/freezer repair men came. They took one look at it and said it was past repair (so why did the previous repair man say it could be repaired?) My service contract provides for a new replacement if it can't be repaired but they said the phone line to head office was busy so they couldn't make arrangements for a replacement at the present time. They left saying they would phone to say what arrangements will be made. Grrr! Not happy!  >:(

Morning all.  It's Monday.  Let the stress begin.

Hope you all enjoyed the Tony's--you know how I feel about "award" shows.

I found two side tables on sale at Walmart that fit my living room much better than the ones I had. The old ones were way to big but I got them for free so I wasn't complaining.  The new ones are much smaller but have both a bottom shelf and a drawer.

I hate to get rid of the old tables because they are real wood.  I sat them out by the curb and doubt they will be there by the time I get home tonight.  Toby will miss the one that was by the window because he used to sit on it and look out.  He still has the cube so I didn't take his "tv" away.

 I spent most of yesterday afternoon putting the new tables together.  Why is it that even if you follow the directions to the letter, you wind up with left over parts?  :)

Wishing all well and vibes to all those who need them.

Thanks, Danise.

I'm in Rome today and too tired now to post any more photos. I leave tomorrow. So, I'll be off for a few days.

I think Rome is wonderful, but it's also too hectic  and noisy after a relaxing week away from  people. The throngs are just enormous, everywhere you turn. We went to the Trevi Fountain and you had to fight to get near the water. We saw the Spanish steps but didn't go near them for the same reason. There just wasn't enough time to get anywhere near the Coliseum or the Vatican or any place like that. Another trip.

You never try to visit the Vatican during the summer months (including June).  It was crowded when I was there in November, but you were still able to breathe and you could actually stand next to some of these people without the fumes killing you..

Did you mean the fumes coming from the people?

Good morning, all!I slept fitfully, mostly out of concern for the fact that I was up too late watching the Tonys and knowing I had to be up at 6:30. This morning I head up to the Bronx to work on the final mix of EILEEN with producer Judy Sherman.I suspect we will be adding crowd nises, gun fire. etc., and I hope it all goes smoothly. It's a schlep to Riverdale.

I also need to plan my week. DJ, my Appalachina collaborator, has done what I feared he would do and tried to circumvent several months ago. Now that his schedule's free, he's back into Appalachia but my schedule is getting crazy with a recording to be released and a recording to be made. I wanted to address changes and fixes two months ago, but I got no response to my concerns.  So, I've got to juggle that as well as everything else now.  And I need to see my barber.

They raved about her in England. Now I am an Anglophile through and through, but they got it wrong on this one. There were times during the show when she was actually good but she was saddled with a script made out of tabloid trash. On top of that between her interpretation and the direction the show veered wildly between jaw dropping badness and moments that I thought were good (most of those moments were provided by Michael Cumpsty).

I meant to say something along these lines last night, and MR BK has beat me to it.  But here it is anyway:

What a PLEASURE the thank-you and other speeches in this show are, compared to what we must suffer elsewhere.  These people know how to comport themselves on a stage, how to face an audience and speak on a stage, how to read if necessary, no one is drugged out, they have a sense of timing, and...and...well, you know.

Has it always been thus on the Tonys?  I'd suppose so, to varying degrees, but I was struck by it last night in such a big way.  It was as though civilization was on the rise.  Or something.

RE: The Tonys.

I also really enjoyed some of the speeches. Judy's was great. I also really enjoyed the girl who won for Best Actress in a Play. She seemed shocked. But she was so sweet.

I loved Neil Patrick Harris' closing number. I wish he could have done more numbers. I just enjoy everything he does.

I too was disappointed that we didn't get to see Bernadette Peters on the show (her award). But i did really enjoy Hugh Jackman. He seemed totally shocked that his wife was presenting. Personally when she said she had to go to the bathroom right before his award was coming up ... well that would have been a clue for me. But i enjoyed him a lot.

A few likes and dislikes, off the top of my head...

ONCE:  I don't know much about it but now I want to see it.

THE BEST MAN:  Looks simply delicious.  Want!

EVITA:  No.  DR Jrand and I were saying how that is a favorite number.  It was technically good -- and how great not to hear a train wreck in that one tricky section.  But there was no Che there, or much of anything else.  And no indication at all of how good or bad the Eva is.  Terrible choice for the show.

PORGY AND BESS:  No.  Confirmed everything I've read and heard since day one.  I wouldn't be able to sit through this total re-writing of the work.
Title: Re: BEST PERFORMANCE BY A SLEEPING JEW

To me when choosing a musical number for tv I would want to:

1. find a number that will best represent the show

2. feature some of the nominated performers

3. give the audience a real idea what the show is about

4. make people want to see the show

I really have no idea how the numbers are chosen because most of the numbers i saw did not do any of the things i listed above.
I love Evita so much. But I wish so much that they could have shown us Eva Peron. That's just one example.

I also found it so odd that for Best Original score we had 2 plays, 1 Wildhorn, and then the winner.

TOD - my favorite moments from the broadcast were Judy Kaye's speech and the number from ONCE, although that selection didn't give Cristin Milioti much to do.  She was also slighted by the NY1 interviewer on the red carpet, who concentrated more on Phylicia Rashad's daughter and the other girl in the group.  I also liked the fact that Richard and I watched the entire program together, remembering seeing in person many of the people we were seeing on TV last night.

They did it off broadcast during a commercial break so just the people in the Beacon Theatre saw it.

I didn't see the Tony Awards. I have only seen a few clips on the youtubes. But it seems to me as though the whole show has really improved from when I last saw it years ago. Neil Patrick Harris seems to be a real gem as the host. The new traditional closing number must have everyone scrambling during the show to write lyrics.

I just pulled up last night's MAD MEN On Demand, and there's something so hideously wrong with the quality of the broadcast that I shut it off after five minutes.  The image is fuzzy, jerky, audio is out of sync...while the "AMC HD" logo blazes brightly in the corner.  Gotta wonder what somebody's (Comcast's?) problem is.  Maybe this is what you get first thing in the morning??  Can't be.  Will try again later.

There is a video on YouTube or somewhere (maybe bluegobo.com) of the Evita cast in London doing "What's New,  Buenos Aires" and the choreography is just horrible. Plus Elena Roger, or whatever her name is, is vocally uninspiring. I'm really not looking forward to seeing the new clip.

The Tony Awards should be about Theatre...not politics.

They are doing HARVEY at the ZACH in Austin next season.  I just might go see it.

The last time I saw HARVEY on stage was with Joe E. Brown when I was 5-years old.

I remember that I was very disappointed that the rabbit never appeared on stage.

Favorite parts:
Steve Kazee's acceptance speech.
NPH's Spider-Man bit
James Corden's upset win (even though I voted for the other guy...)

Ugly parts:
The pretentious CLYBOURNE PARK acceptance speech
The HAIRSPRAY mess
The Judy Garland drag queen

Was Michael McGrath's foreshadowing (at the end of his speech) meant to imply that he would soon be  doing a HONEYMOONERS - THE MUSICAL?
Yes, he will be playing Ralph Kramden in a musical version of The Honeymooners.

That's a relief!  Because he was talking about his wife, I thought he meant that it was gonna be "Bang! Zoom!  Straight to the moon!" when he got home...

I hadn't been eager at all to see ONCE based on listening to the OCR but seeing the "Gold" number last night has perked my interest.  Also would like to see PETER AND THE STARCATCHER (though I don't think last night's snippets really showed it off all that well.)

What a boring three hours of tv and not to mention full of drek.  I was sorry that my buddy ALW didn't win anything, but both numbers were boring.  So much wasted time on shows that either were not nominated or had closed - I don't care what they paid to be on the broadcast.  I'm glad Once won for Best Musical. Although it's based on a movie, it was still creative.  The Newsies thing just saddens me to no end.  It should never even opened on Broadway, but went straight to being able to license the show, like it was suppose to do.  Glad Alan Menkin finally won a Tony, though.  It should have went to Sister Act last year, though.  And really really really could care less about The Book of Mormon, must we always be slapped in the face with a reference??

And I wasn't going to say anything.... oy and vey

Interest in the Tony Awards telecast was even lower than usual this year, as CBS drew just 6 million viewers for Sunday's three-hour special , likely the smallest audience on record for the event.
Despite facing lackluster competition on the broadcast networks and no big sports draws on cable, the Tony Awards averaged a 1.0 rating/3 share in adults 18-49 and a little over 6 million viewers for its 8-11 p.m. window , down from last year's show, which did a 1.2/4 in the demo while drawing nearly 1 million more viewers overall. The previous low-water mark in the demo was a 1.1 rating in both 2008 and 2010, and the smallest overall audience prior to last night was 6.3 million in 2008.

Viewership drifted downward throughout the telecast too, starting with about 7 million in the 8 o'clock half-hour before closing to about 5.4 million when ''Once'' was awarded the prize for best musical.

Grrr! Not happy!  >:(

Oh, Well.

I had heard really good things about Traci Bennett as Judy Garland.  She was horrible.  And if she was supposed to be Judy in her final months, she didn't study her much.

I didn't like Tracie Bennett's performance last night, at all. :P

Yes, what happened to the IN MEMORIUM segment?

They did it off broadcast during a commercial break so just the people in the Beacon Theatre saw it.

They did many things off broadcast. God forbid you should bore people with awards presented to those stupid book writers or choreographers or orchestrator or Actor's Equity getting a special Tony or even Bernadette Peters getting the Isabelle Stevenson Award.

I wish they had done the LEAP OF FAITH number during a commerical break

Or the HAIRSPRAY number...there was absolutely no point for that.  Not that it was bad, but just completely unneccessary.

Sometimes the poster really is better than the movie...but really, it is kind of difficult not to want to see a movie called LURE OF THE SWAMP.

Oh, and the 'annoying' girlfriend of Marshall Thompson's was played by Joan Lora, who was one of the teens, along with June Kenney, Robert Reed, and Gene Persson hunted down by a killer on that island in BLOODLUST (1961).

I think it's pretty cool that cruise ships are doing Broadway musicals. I think it would have been fine for them to mention the fact that Hairspray was currently on a ship. I started watching the Tony show at 8 p.m. (tape-delayed, of course).  Loved the opening number.  And then there was the number from "Newsies" and I was nearly apoplectic before it (mercifully)(finally) ended.   What a lengthy, tedious and boring number.  And it won the Tony for choreography?  Oh my freaking goodness!

I was a bit put out that Mr. Tiffany's acceptance speech went on and on and on and on and on and on..I mean, I switched channels and surfed a bit hoping it would be over before I got back...and it wasn't over.  He seemed to talk for several minutes.   And then poor Mike Nichols got about 95 seconds before the orchestra began playing him off.

Happily, "True Blood's" fifth season started at 9 a.m. and I was able to spend the rest of my evening angst-free.  Still, I did record the show and will fast-forward to places you guys have said good things about (and a few bad things about, too).

Speaking of wildlife........

While driving home up our dirt road today I suddenly slammed on my brakes and stopped.  On the edge of the road was a rather small fawn.  I left my car parked on the road & walked up to our house.  Keith had heard me and was walking down our driveway to see if there was a problem.  I asked him to get the orange cones we have to put around the fawn so cars wouldn't run over it.

I put one cone down & when he walked up to do the second one the fawn got up and wobbled (as young ones do) over towards me.  Finally he went to off into the brush so we left.

Years ago Echo found a fawn & I read that mother deer do leave their fawns for lengthy periods.  They blend into the brush so well they are usually safe.  I hope this one is.

DR Jennifer, how did you miss the point of that atrocity" Royal Caribbean WAS ONE OF THE DAMNED SPONSORS of the Tony Awards! If they'd wanted to have an underwater ballet, CBS might have allowed it. So, I gather  there's been some flack about the Great Audra's comments on getting raped every night.

Really?  I thought that that part of her speech was pretty funny.

I did, too. It's what happens in the show.

Well, the phone interview didn't happen - I suppose it will be rescheduled and hopefully before I'm on my way to NY.  I suppose I'll get ready for the Jason and Faith show.

I watched the Tony Awards this morning.  I enjoyed it for the most part.  Matthew Broderick looked like he didn't want to be there. I enjoyed the number from Once, but I don't think it necessarily showed how good the show is --I really liked it and might see it again when my friend comes from California in October.   I agree that Danny Burstein's number was better in person for some reason.

I went to see Kristin Chenoweth last night --that's why I wasn't here for the Tony bash.   I know she's not the favorite of everyone here, but I really enjoyed her show.    She chose someone from the audience (actually she said that the young woman had been at her Philadelphia show and she almost picked her but didn't, so she was choosing her since she happened to be here ) to sing a duet of "For Good" (from Wicked) with her.  The singer's name was Lindsay --she was really great and got a standing ovation.  After she left the stage Kristin said "Note to self.  Don't have anyone on the stage who's better than you."

I would have liked to see her. Sounds like fun.

This morning I had errands to do before my audiology appointment.  Now I have to get used to the changes.  Until I get used to them I don't know if this is an improvement or not.  I think it is.

~~~Improvement Vibes for DR Jane!!~~~
Speaking of wildlife........
While driving home up our dirt road today I suddenly slammed on my brakes and stopped.  On the edge of the road was a rather small fawn.  I left my car parked on the road & walked up to our house.  Keith had heard me and was walking down our driveway to see if there was a problem.  I asked him to get the orange cones we have to put around the fawn so cars wouldn't run over it.
I put one cone down & when he walked up to do the second one the fawn got up and wobbled (as young ones do) over towards me.  Finally he went to off into the brush so we left.
Years ago Echo found a fawn & I read that mother deer do leave their fawns for lengthy periods.  They blend into the brush so well they are usually safe.  I hope this one is.
  Me too!
I went out with Craig to the lake for a nice walk.  We didn't see the fawn on the road which I hope is a good thing.
I have to say that I believe that the hypnotherapy is working.  I feel better inside and don't feel like I'm on the edge of losing it like I did.
I had my performance eval today (that one that was due back in December).  I didn't expect it to be good and it wasn't but I didn't lose my temper.  I listened to 2 of the sessions at lunch and they kept me calm.
The thing I like about Joseph is how he keeps posting new free coaching and hypnotherapy sessions yet doesn't charge for them.  He just wants to help.  I've been "talking" to him via Twitter/email/his board and he seems a really nice young man with a good and caring heart.
I had a surprise today when someone mentioned that I seem to have changed since I came back--for the better.  I blame Joseph Clough.  :)  I'm so glad I found that free app in the Android Store.  It's also for the iPhone in case anyone wants to give it a try.
  I was amazed at how many deer there were in Pittsburgh the last couple of times I went there.  We came around a bend and there was a huge buck in someones yard!  I thought it was fake until I saw it move.
DR Danise Ashland has a big deer problem.  Outside the town we don't except that we have to be careful not to hit one when driving the main road back to our house at night.
This is very good news.
VIBES THIS CONTINUES TO KEEP MAKING A DIFFERENCE AND THAT YOUR NEXT EVAL IS MUCH BETTER!
Well, I have to head to dreamland.
I've been watching episodes from the first season of MAVERICK on DVD.
Good stories, but very static direction.
I think they only had five days to shoot an hour show back then.
I've been watching episodes from the first (and only) season of The Girl from UNCLE.  However long they had to shoot each episode wasn't enough.
