Well, you've read the notes, the notes were energized and hopped around, and now it is time for you to post until the energized cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SUBITIZE!
-
Well, last night I went with some friends to Tacoma to see a production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum with some friends...in the show. Guess who was also in the show...our very own Jed! He played one of the Proteans and was quite good. I really liked the show overall, but a couple of the actors weren't quite right. The show was in the round (which was actually square) and although the staging was a bit too frenetic (lots of movement and some heavy breathing...not the good kind ;)), I thought that it was well done.
-
Today, I'll be gone all day with ushering and concessioning for a local dance group's end-of-year performances. I hope that I'll have enough time in between the performances to get something to eat.
Have a good day, all!
-
torrential rainfall yesterday - basement flooded e & T ness tocontinue until the mess is resolved

vibes for all

Hope the fooding mess gets resolved easily and calmly, vixmom!

Vibes for DR VIXMOM.
-
We are still rainless here.....just drop now and then the last couple of days.
-
Off to work. Oh well.....
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
So sorry to hear about the basement, Deb.
Yes, it poured in New York City as well which helped to break the temperatures but no flooding in the city.
-
I might break tradition and have a bagel for breakfast. I can have oatmeal anytime, including for dinner but a bagel is calling my name.
Our upstairs neighbor gave us some bagels, that's why it's become imperative to possibly eat one, otherwise they might get stale and I wouldn't want that to happen.
-
Last night we watched On the Avenue (starring Dick Powell, Madeleine Carroll, and Alice Faye and the Ritz Brothers). It was a nice 90 minutes. It was an early Alice Faye so she wasn't the star and she even purposely caused some trouble for Dick Powell. I must say, I had never seen the Ritz Brothers before and, for me, the act tires quickly. Some of it was cute but the bits were too long and not terribly funny. We watched a deleted clip as well and it's clear why it was cut.
We have the last episode of the new season of Doc Martin plus the second movie of Doc Martin before it became a series.
-
I'm off to the Greenmarket for a few things and then whatever happens during the day.
Vibes to dear Deb and the flooded basement.
-
good morn to all

Good morning, all.

Some great Irving Berlin songs in that one. Love "Slumming at Park Avenue" in particular. But I agree on the Ritz Bros.

Off on a day of visiting wineries up in the Hill Country and who knows what else. (Any excuse not to clean house.)
-
TOD: Best pasta dish was a lasagna I had recently in Italy. It came out looking like an omelet, about 3/4 of in inch high, and yet it was seven or eight layers of freshly rolled deeply golden yellow pasta with fresh porcini mushrooms and butter in between each layer. No one flavor dominated the other and yet the effect of those few ingredients was my idea of heaven.
I won't eat pasta in the U.S. anymore. Nothing could taste like that. And it's all for the best since pasta is one of the big no-no's on a diabetic diet.
-
Good morning, all! I've been up since 7 but it took me over 90 minutes to determine and book my flights to and from Dublin. My options were US Air, Delta, and Aer Lingus, and after setting up all three and looking at seat availability, I booked the flights with Aer Lingus. I'm not crazy about JFK, but I'm stuck with it.
Now, I will run to Staples and pick up the 10 vocal books before I grab a taxi and head to Toyland. That's essentially my day. I will check in from there.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Good Weekend Vibes to Everyone! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
Good morning, all.
May all of our Saturdays be energized. Yesterday was definitely "off". Nothing to put one's finger on, planets and stars out of alignment or something. Has the heat wave sufficiently broken? I shall find out forthwith, when I go downstairs for more coffee, by opening a door and stepping outside for a moment.
Very sorry to hear about Vixmom's flooding. Yet another homeowner nightmare.
~~~ Dry Basement Vibes to Vixmom! ~~~

Saturday morning greetings! Yesterday was full of errands and, by the time Richard and I got home at 9:15, I was too tired even to turn the computer on. Today is much quieter and this evening we're going with my Mom and Rob and Mary Linda to Dayton's Amber Rose (http://www.theamberrose.com) for our belated Father's Day celebration.
-
Meant to say this before, but I like DR Ginny's practice of not going out to celebrate these days on the actual day. That makes total sense, and, I think, should make the occasions all the nicer.
-
Thanks, DR ChasSmith. This has worked well for us for many years. The nice restaurants are so crowded on Mother's Day and Father's Day that it's not really enjoyable.
-
Not to mention, you're probably getting better service and food, too, since so many places turn into assembly lines on those days.
-
And the word of the day is: SUBITIZE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: I'VE GOT YOUR NUMBER

OMIGOD You guys!!! Legally Blonde auditions today!!!!

Vibes to everyone and special vibes that no one has to watch any Ritz Brothers! Oy!

The total bill for Stapes was $234.00 and the paper is heavier than I would like, but the job iscompleted. I thought I'd get a hernia lugging it down here.
So, I will shortly cart it to the McGlinnventory and begin binding everything. Still very hot outside. Beautiful day, though!
-
Aer Lingus is not a bad airline. We flew to Dublin in 2005 on Lingus. We had to stop in Shannon before getting to Dublin (that was an unannounced change) but otherwise it was a smooth trip with pleasant Irish flight attendants.
I love Dublin!!!
-
It's muggy. According to the Weather bug on the computer it's only 73 but it feels warmer because of the humidity.

Oy! There could be some GOOD STUFF there!
-
People that have absolutely NO intention of buying stuff drive me crazy.
-
As many of you already know, it's not a particularly long drive.
-
Interestingly, my wifi connection is stronger in my garage than in my house.
-
So everyone's selling from their own house -- not some community location?
-
No, each at their own house--this is a huge neighborhood, there are hundreds of garage sales going on today.

Hope the fooding mess gets resolved easily and calmly, vixmom!

Embarrassing to think this, but I've probably been guilty of same. I do love garage sales, estate sales, etc., and have done very well at some.

I think Kim Criswell and Judy, the producer, are as well.

The books are ready, so it's time to bind.

Do they really think I am fooled by, "Well, I'll give it some thought".
I've found that when someone says "I'll give it some thought" or "I'll get back to you after I think about it" - the silent "You should live so long" is implied more often than not.
-
Hope the fooding mess gets resolved easily and calmly, vixmom!

Yes, and the flooding mess, too.

I am sitting here in my garage, able to see my breath, under a blanket with a space heater next to me. Oy.

I had another ambulance chaser phoning me today asking if I had had a motor accident within the past 3 years (I haven't). I get one of these calls every couple of months or so. It’s become a big problem in the UK with “no win – no fee” claims companies who encourage people to make claims (usually false) such as whiplash injuries following minor accidents. The high payouts of these claims has resulted in steep increases in the cost of motor insurance for everyone.
-
Watching "Last Year in Marienbad" (a Blu rental I just received) I'm no nearer working out what it's all about than when I first saw it 40 years ago but it looks absolutely wonderful on this Optimum Blu-ray release and, despite the passing years, it's a film which has not dated in the least. I'm not sure why it's always been titled "Last Year in Marienbad" in the UK but "Last Year at Marienbad" in the US.
-
The 10 vocal books are bound and sitting at the McGlinnventory to be shipped to Dublin on Monday morning. I had a quiet and pleasant bus ride home, and I will have a very quiet evening chilling out and doing little. Next week I have to proof the 2-piano score of Jerome Moross' BALLET BALLADS, which I've been postponing for about six months now.
-
Back from shopping for doing some outdoor grillin' this evening.
Did I say grillin'? I'm very sorry. I meant grilling.
Enjoyed having the windows open today -- there was even a bit of a breeze earlier -- but it feels rather hot again now, so the AC will probably have to resume its noble duty for the evening and for sleeping.

Awwwwwwwww! Adorable,
The Man from Philadelphia is talking about two recordings/year again! I don't know if this is good or bad news for me. He's a good man, and I'm happy he's feeling positive about that but this may mean a lot more work for me. Maybe he's on drugs for his bad back?

Awww! Congratulations! How is the mother doing?
She had to have a C section so she's still in the hospital. The adrenaline has worn off and she's exhausted and cranky at the moment. I haven't talked to her, I've tried a couple times, but my brother is acting like a cranky secretary and I haven't been able to get through to her. I left a message and I'm sure she'll call when she's feeling better. She's exhausted today but she'll be fine.

I'm sorry about the C section and hope her recovery is quick. I'm not sure why your brother is her secretary but I gotta say, I'm with him on this one. She needs as much rest as possible before they go home. I'm sure your message made her happy.

Oh Sam has had my brother wrapped around her finger all her life. From talking to him, you'd think he was in labor at the same time she was, lol. He told me the day before the baby was born that it was just as hard for him as it was for Sam, lol I don't think so.
Luckily Don gets along great with my brother and his wife. Don has been there the whole time with Sam. He's very supportive and I think he's great for her.
I agree she needs her rest. I just laugh because I assumed she'd turn off the sound on her cell if she was going to sleep, so I left a message yesterday and a different one today. Thinking it would be fun for her to find the message. It was my brother who texted back from his phone and called back to say she needs her rest etc. He's just being protective
-
Thanks everyone. Not sure exactly when I'll meet him, but it iwll be fairly soon
-
Jeez, this is some way to relax on a Saturday - I haven't stopped. I spent over three hours writing the commentary, then had to do the new release blurb, then finally got something to eat and picked up no packages. Then I had to download an upcoming project and listen to that and I'll have to make a road map for it during the week, then I listened to the first half of our new master.
-

Your brother is funny. I thought he had answered the phone. He could have just said she was resting. She must have mentioned you left a message.

I am so happy that mom and dad got to see the baby. I told my brother that they were too worried about bothering Sam after talking to him. He said that was ridiculous, so I told him to get on the phone and call them. They were thrilled. Mom said he's "just perfect" and that Sam was doing really well.

It has been a great many years since I have had to get by on one payday a month. Since the SSA is paid the fourth week of the month nad my state retirement check (after my insurance is taken out) is paid on the last day of the month, I have kind of lumped them together into one payday.

Bike riding temps.
Actually it's sort of been too hot for a bike ride. It has been like 100F this week and very hot and sunny. Even today was a bit milder but still quite hot. I didn't check the weather so don't know the exact temp. But my neck is hurting (even though i had suntan lotion on).
I can't go biking after being at the pool for 4 1/1 hours. Even though it was too crowded to swim i did run around a lot and exercise in the pool.
-
When my friend changed my sheets last time, she apparently tucked all of the electrical cords for my electric blanket under the bed. On my own, I can't move the bed enough to find them. The electric blanket was one of the only things that helped warm my feet.

I think it's Season 5 of Doc Martin. That is the current season. They have been playing it on PBS and Rose (Ant's mother) has recorded it for us.
According to this list at Wikipedia there will be a Season 6. It will be broadcast sometime in 2013 per this quote
"On 5 March 2012, Clunes revealed in an interview on The Alan Titchmarsh Show that a sixth series has been commissioned and will air in late-2013."
Jane don't read the episode descriptions for Season 5 if you don't want spoilers.

Well, not the menu itself, but all of the food dishes listed on it.

DR TCB, the food at Amber Rose very good. Richard had Lithuanian, Rob had German, and Mary Linda and I had Polish. My Mom had the fried shrimp - they were huge and there were a dozen on her plate. She took about half of her dinner home, along with a box of 6 cabbage rolls that she's going to share with her friends.

OMIGOD you guys. If Legally Blonde didn't have a male ensemble, we'd be in good shape. The major percentage of no-shows today were men. So, now it's time to call. I hate calling, and I don't beg... I just present the facts. But I hate it nonetheless.

I never thought I would say this, but the Sauerkraut Balls sound delicious.

Did Richard have the Lithuanian Sampler?

Watching the second to last Wallander film - excellent. I think this was one of the Branagh's I saw, but other than the opening, I'm not really remembering much of it, so maybe I shut it off after the opening.

Across the street from Jerry's Deli is a place that's interested me for six months now and I finally called. It is a spa kind of place and they offer a one-hour foot massage for thirty bucks and tonight's the night I give it a whirl, as I haven't had one for ages and I really miss it.

Any interesting comments that stand out? I was surprised by this article. The waiting list for some of the more popular books is very long. Obviously people in Oregon are checking out eBooks. The problem I find is that there are fewer & fewer new books available.

Good evening.
Spent a delightful evening outside on the deck with friends, grilling rib eyes, corn on the cob, and enjoying various and sundry snacks and libations. Not so many libations that I won't enjoy a good movie, but I don't know what it's to be yet.
The air was actually perfect and, strangely enough, there weren't many mosquitoes out. Stranger still, not a single one of the ones that WERE out found me an attractive source of sustenance. That's a rare event, and I decided to quit while I'm ahead.

OMIGOD you guys. If Legally Blonde didn't have a male ensemble, we'd be in good shape. The major percentage of no-shows today were men. So, now it's time to call. I hate calling, and I don't beg... I just present the facts. But I hate it nonetheless.
Will you be calling the no-shows?
Absolutely not. They missed their window. We may consider if they call and tell us some sob story as to why they could not make their time, but if they don't bother, neither do we.

"Love bursts out of me and flies like a bird in a sunflower field."
I remembered that lyric from "The Grass Harp" after I spotted this field in the Hill Country today. I turned around and went back, even though stopping made me late for my appointment.

The foot rub adventure was fascinating. I had a nice Asian lady. But it's not just a foot rub - she began doing a little facial massage, then a little scalp massage, both very relaxing. Then she did a little work on the arms. Then she went to the feet, which had been soaking in warm water. She spent the majority of the hour on the feet, which was fantastic. Then in the last ten minutes or so she had me turn over and she did a little on the back - so it's really like getting a long foot rub with a mini-massage. An excellent use of thirty dollars and I'll definitely go back.

A few DR's might find this interesting:
E-book readers slow to borrow from library

Interesting. I e-mailed it to my work and will see if anyone else has heard/read about this. They certainly have stats on usage, but I don't know what their expectations are.
