Well, you've read the notes, the notes were the way they were, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently singing the Marvin Hamlisch classic, The MOOsic and the Mirror from A Cowrus Line.

Good morning, all.

Happy birthday, der Brucer!

I don't really want my eyes open, but I can't sleep any more. There's something in the air that I'm allergic to. Oh, it could be air.

I got up before sunrise, was treated to the sight of a tidy amount of stars in the skies. Very pretty.

FJL, in response to your question last night, that was the day the publisher set for the release of the whole series. I think 25 cities around the country had their Food Lovers' books debut yesterday. My friend and colleague, Bonnie, and I went out to a Mexican seafood place for a small celebration and some spectacular guacamole.

BK, thanks for asking me to post the amazon link.

Marvin Hamlisch's The Way We Were (with the Bergman's) is in my top ten of Academy Award Winning. It is a perfect main title song that sets up the story without giving away the plot. The music is reused as underscore at key moments and the song is reprised at the end of the film to wrap up the story of Katie and Hubbell and having Mrs. James Brolin singing the song you could not have gone wrong.

Good morning, all.

Could well have used another hour or two of sleep, but it's going to be a crazy few days here, with a wholly unplanned but very much desired project... repaving the driveway.

The oldest part of it will get repaved, and on the newer half they'll fill the cracks and broken bits and put a seal coat on it.  That part's 18 years old, and the older part is of unknown age, but probably 30+ years.  It's a long winding hilly driveway (actually I don't even know how long -- a few hundred feet at least), the bad part of which has been more difficult to keep passable with every passing winter.  A family-run paving company made several of us offers that were pretty hard to turn down, and we're all going for it even though it's a huge unplanned expense.  But not as huge as it could be, and the improvements will be immeasurable.

I typed all of that on my first cup of coffee.  Is it readable?  Time for a refill.

Good morning, all! I slept well until around 4:00am, at which point I had a flight-recording-travel panic attack and was wide awake for about 45 minutes before I went back to sleep.

So, my schedule for today has gone haywire. While I know that the AC men are not shwing up, I do not know if the elevator repair men are showing up. I have to deal with a problem with my wonderful super, who is taking this elevator situation personally. If the maintenance crew doesn't come in, I don't blame him, but he's taking my anger over the situation all very personally and that's bullshit.

Hopefully, the check from the Man From Philadelphia will arrive in today's mail so I can deposit it, pay the bills, and have travel money. At 5:30, i meet the producer of the Appalachian Christmas show for coffee andto learn the plan of attackfor the fall.

The thing about Marvin Hamlisch's Oscars is that he hit the trifecta (so to speak).

He won for "The Sting" (adaptation), and "The Way We Were" (score and song) in the same year.  All three Oscars!  In one year.

DR Laura, I have apparently done something right this summer. My parsley plant has been taken hostage by a couple of caterpillars. Any suggestions on what else I could do to attract some butterflies-to-be?

It's been a good time recently for the little critters out there. I have seen plenty of dragonflies back there and I just stood and watched a grasshopper the other day as he was eating away on one of my oregano plants. He was about 1 1/2 inches long, bright green and I couldn't help it, I just let him eat.

Hurray! You probably have black swallowtail caterpillars. They use parsley, dill, fennel, and I think Queen Anne's lace as a host plant where they lay their eggs.

I would recommend planting milkweed. There are several very pretty ones if you don't like the ones many folks consider "weeds." That will bring monarchs and queens. And all butterflies like to nectar on milkweed flowers.

If you can find passion vine (ask if it has been sprayed with insecticide), you should also attract gulf fritillaries if you have them in your area.

Arizona is dry enough most of the time that we don't really have many mosquitoes. But the ones we have are sick with West Nile. When we get our summer monsoon storms, the water puddles in things like old tires, old pots ... stuff like that ... where the water is stagnant. That's what mosquitoes lay their eggs in. Also, some people (like the neighbor across the street) let their pools turn green. That's a big source of mosquitoes for us.

John G., Texas is one of the big hotspots for monarchs during their fall migration. You should see them if you plant milkweed in your yard. I get them here, and we aren't the hot spot that you are!

No. I just water my plants regularly, once or twice a day depending on how much energy I have. I also have the hummingbird feeder filled, which has attracted a few plus some other insects. I just keep wishing it will attract the bees to pollinate the blossoms on the pepper plants, the tomatillo and the rest, but I see everything but bees these days.

It's a good thing DR MBarnum doesn't live here. He'd be breaking it daily just to get one of the repairmen back to the building.

Is there any identification of that fool on Twitter who's been threatening an Aurora-type shooting in the Broadway theatre where the Spike Lee-MikeTyson show is playing?

FJL, in response to your question last night, that was the day the publisher set for the release of the whole series. I think 25 cities around the country had their Food Lovers' books debut yesterday. My friend and colleague, Bonnie, and I went out to a Mexican seafood place for a small celebration and some spectacular guacamole.

I agree with you.

I'm sure you will be happy you did this.  When we redid our driveway we found it less slippery & safer to walk & drive.

You probably wouldn't have slept if the AC had been Anderson Cooper.

I have noticed that over the last several weeks, we have made frequent references to the extremely attractive AC (not air conditioner).  I hope that these comments have not gotten back to the WSMA, who is still #1 to me (and Kevin  ;D).

Yes!  I know we won't be able to see Craig too soon unless he can meet us in Cleveland.  Now that I have a better idea of his work & school schedule, I doubt it.  I hope at least one of them will be able to go to their cousin's wedding this January or February, whenever it is.  Craig said unless it includes a holiday Monday he doubts it.  Of course if he doesn't replace his missing passport he isn't going since it will be out of the country.

Because you love those little creatures who might otherwise be put to death.

There is a wonderful cat rescue group in California I'm on facebook with, The Main Coon Adoptions that have cats like this one:

Ricky is in love with the brush.  If I say "Who wants brushing?"  he'll come running full speed from anywhere in the house.  It's hilarious.  Boo didn't like to be brushed until she saw Ricky getting all the attention, now she likes it too. Callie likes to be brushed when she wants to be brushed but only when she wants to be brushed.

Long day here, in which nothing actually got done, notably any driveway repaving.  It took them a full day longer than expected to do the long one next door.  Tomorrow, hopefully, mine and one other neighbor's will get half done, and be completed on Friday.

Now you all are up to date on that.

We had a good first day of rehearsal yesterday. And we had a good second day of rehearsal today...

I had just forgotten how exhausting - especially mentally - to "speed" teach a new show to a new cast in 14 hours...

Whew!

I shall attempt to catch up a little bit tonight - a.k.a. now - but I have a feeling I may just do so in the morning. I'm taking advantage of my jet lag and heading to bed "early" and waking up "early" here.

Laters...

Although, I do have to say...well, I don't have to, but I'm going to (and DON'T TELL ANYONE!)...the scuttlebutt that I've heard from others is that Samantha is quite jealous of the attention that Priscilla has been getting...and has been quite vocal about it. ::)
