Well, you've read the notes, the notes were big and had folly, and now it is time for you to post until the big cows come home.

Good morning all!

I intended to say that I liked BK's poster last night.

My Thunder shirt comment was a joke, DR Jane.  I didn't notice that they made the dogs feel any better-I just noticed that the thunder went away.  :)

So glad it's Friday and this week is over.

Vibes to all who need them.

Have a wonder filled day!

PETER FILICHIA weighs in on the CHILD NARRATOR IN "INTO THE WOODS"

Hmm, I wonder if this just MIGHT get a little bit of conversation going on the chat boards, it's got a nice little extra level of "bite" to it (at least i think it does) that plays against Peter's normally sweet and gentle persona - but I've guessed wrong before

But any and all conversation about Filichia is a good thing; it gets people to the Kritzerland site, right?

I have to revisit my recordings of Academy Awards Songs. It seems some of the songs that I thought had the original artists turned out not to be and when I went to watch them films from where they came from the songs had been dropped in favor of an instrumental version.

Mondo Cane and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. (It was wonderful to see the magnificent performance of Maggie Smith again. I believe it is one of the finest if not the finest performance ever committed to film)

I wonder why they would drop songs that have been nominated? I don't think it could be rights because the instrumental  versions are being used.

Good morning, all!  I slept well until 4:30, and then I had a very difficult time getting back to sleep. I 'm certain part of it was my mind flipping about over all that needs to be done before tomorrow's flight and that some of it is my anxiety about flying. I have a lot to accomplish today.

First thing, I'm meeting a member of the Miami University Theatre Dept for breakfast, then I must run to Tekserve to purchase a cover for my Macbook. Then, i'm heading to Toyland to check on the office. after that, Port Authority to purchase a bus ticket to JFK for tomorrow. Once I'm back here, i've got some shopping to do and some luggage to drag out of storage.

Last night, I watched the extras on thew Region-2 DVD of THE CRYING GAME; the alternate ending seems like ac ompletely different film. Then I watched the feature of the film and its distribution.

BK, I look forward to seeing a photo of the poster once it's been hanged.

AND we got thunder, lightning, and rain during the show...a LOT of rain.  Hopefully some of our grass will turn green.

That FLY Collection is such a great set.  I was glancing at mine the other night, having just listened to the CD, realizing it's been way too long since I've seen the films.

(TOD):  These past two days have been so busy and odd that the last DVD I watched was INVADERS FROM MARS a couple of nights ago.  Lots of fun, and hard to believe I didn't grow up knowing this one.

Blu-ray - Flame Over India or to give it it's proper title North West Frontier which looks vastly better than the washed-out French DVD I have. Kenneth More was hugely popular and not far from me is the Kenneth More Theatre which I often go to.

I received word late last night that my first audio book is now available for download on Amazon and will soon be on iTunes.

It's ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD: From the Secret Files of Harry Pennypacker, narrated by a very talented fellow, Scott O'Neill, who lives in Seattle.

This is the new audio edition of my 2009 book that spoofed Hollywood's Golden Age and the tabloid press that covered it.  It contains bizarre tales of such movie icons as John Wayne, Elvis Presley, James Dean, Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, The Marx Brothers and many others.

Indeed, I was laughing out loud hearing Scott read my words.

As an bonus, the download contains the book's title song, music and vocal by my son, David.

Follow this link to see how you can get your FREE DOWNLOAD.

http://www.amazon.com/Once-Upon-Time-Hollywood-Pennypacker/dp/B008VJD9DC/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1344569410&sr=1-1&keywords=once+upon+a+time+in+hollywood

Enjoy!

Many years ago, when I was young and good looking, I auditioned and was cast in a show.  Only after I was cast, did I realize that I had already bought and paid for five days in Las Vegas that included the opening weekend of the show..  The director refused to let me out of the show, but instead found a kid who was willing to understudy my role, and play it for the opening weekend.  Weird!

SPOILER ALERT, I guess

Re Filichia on Friday: I saw the second preview of "Into the Woods" and at that time, Tom Aldredge's narrator was the Baker's son, and it provided a touching ending. Then when I saw the show again the weekend after the opening, the whole second act had been changed for a much broader comedy in which the narrator was turned over to the Giant's Widow, etc.

So, this is yet another version of "Into the Woods" that goes back to some of what had originally been in  the script. That leads me to the question: Are there any other musicals out there with multiple sanctioned scripts that can be performed? And I don't mean the adult version vs. a junior version?

I believe there are three versions of Anything Goes available. The original 1930's, the 1960's Off-Broadway (Hal Linden did it) and the Lincoln Center version which was the last two productions that were on Broadway.

Actually, the original 1930s ANYTHING GOES was not the original.  Originally the story took place during a ship wreck; but just before going into rehearsals. the Morro Castle burned off the coast of New Jersey, so they rewrote the musical.

I've always wondered if that original original script still exists somewhere...if it was finished and ready enough that it could be performed now or were all the songs that currently exist used in that original version.

Anyone know?

AND yes I am excused from MILLIE this evening.  The director wanted to use me even though I would miss one performance.  My partner in crime will take my two lines.

Weird!

Why is that weird?  Didn't you play most of the run?

Yes, I did, but it just seemed strange to have an understudy do Opening Night while I was down in Vegas watching Steve and Eydie!

Strange, sure, but obviously, you were the one he wanted in the role.  Which one of you got reviewed?   More importantly, which one of you was in the show when he had important people he wanted to impress with his work come to see the show?  (I have a feeling it was you, his first choice, not the opening night understudy actor, right?)

Well, I just did what I was dragging my feet about doing: I contacted my attorney about changing my will to remove my former friend. It took me months to do the same with the Macbeths. I suppose in both cases I hoped that smething would occur to change my mind and show my instincts were wrong.

Nada.

On a more posiive note, I know that I will have Stephen Rea for two rehearsals (piano and orchestra) before we record him. I am very excited about this.

I think tonight i will watch him as Constantin in THE SEA GULL or with Twiggy in THE DOCTOR AND THE DEVILS.

I'm a little confused by something.  Have we as gay people allowed ourselves to equate

the people who question whether gay people should have the right to be legally married in the eyes of Federal law [recalling that Pres. Obama was in this group less than two years ago]

with

the people who question whether gay people should have human rights, and should be treated as equal for purposes of matters like employment, housing and those types of matters

I worry that some have started to label people "haters" because they haven't come as far as we'd like as quickly as we'd like, forgetting even the very liberal Democratic party President didn't support gay marriage just two years ago.

Friday afternoon greetings!  No, we did not blow away in a thunderstorm last night.  I slept later than I should have this morning and had to rush around in order to pick up my Mom in time for her doctor's appointment.  Her report was good with a follow-up visit scheduled for October.  We then went to lunch and shopping and I've only been home about half an hour.

I bet your mom is thrilled that you are retired.

I bet you are right. :)

There's a story in the L.A. Times questioning the future of "The Nutty Professor" without Hamlisch. It would seem odd at this point to talk about pulling the plug.

DR John G. did you see this? I posted it yesterday

I guess I missed that. Thanks for reposting it.

The drive home was scary. Dust spiraling stories into the air. Trash flying all over the road. Winds so strong that the car was being knocked about. But the lightning was beautiful. And hopefully we'll get some rain.

I'm glad you made it home safely.
After all the sturm und drang in the air, no rain.  ???

For close to two years Keith has been saying we need a new tv & Bryan has been telling us to switch to Blue Ray.  All this time Craig could have been here to help with the heavy work Keith waits until today to buy them.  In fairness to him, it had something to do with the excellent sale price Costco offered.

This movie, "Youth Without Youth," has a great many good ideas in it, but it feels like three or four  separate movies that don't quite fit together.

The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF-0 tornado touched down over parts of Suffolk County on Friday. Storms also caused massive flooding on Long Island's highways and parkways.

Rain began on Long Island in the late morning, mainly in southern Nassau County, with flood advisories issued well ahead of a line of storms that headed east from New Jersey. More storms developed off the Jersey shoreline and headed north towards Long Island. Heavier rain began around noon, along the south shore and spread quickly over most of Long Island.

Around 1:35 p.m., a tornado warning was issued for Suffolk County, specifically for areas near Robert Moses State Park. The warning was soon cancelled, before another warning was reissued right before 2 p.m. for Suffolk County, focusing on areas near Islip with a radar-indicated tornado moving north.

After assessing the damage, a tornado was confirmed by the National Weather Service. The tornado touched down in Great River and crossed the Connetquot State Park and Bohemia County Park before lifting near Ocean Ave in Ronkonkoma. It was rated an E-F0, the lowest classification of tornadoes on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. Winds were estimated to be up to 85 mph. Damage along the path was noted near Oakdale, and Bohemia just south of Vets Highway.

It was the first tornado on Long Island since an EF-0 was spawned by Tropical Storm Irene, and the first non-tropical cyclone tornado since the Islip Terrace EF-1 in July 2007.

Heavy rain flooded various parts of Nassau and Suffolk Counties after a couple of hours of downpours. Water was up to car doors on the Southern State Parkway in North Bay Shore, and Sunrise Highway in Islip Terrace. Post Ave in Westbury Village was shut down due to flooding for nearly its entire length from the Northern State Parkway to the L.I.R.R. station. Flooding was noted in the city as well, especially at the Kew Gardens interchange in Queens, and along most of the Belt Parkway.

Rain totals ranged from a half inch to over two inches.

Yes, very much so.  I notice the lower gas mileage, but the positives make up for it and I"m sure I'll love it even more in the winter with heated seats and all wheel drive

Whew! What an evening.   I saw a post on facebook from some friends who's 4 month old golden retriever had gotten out of their yard.  Ruby is their baby and is a total sweetheart.  She is very well trained already.  She had been missing for several hours, and there looked like there was a lead but I couldn't tell the outcome..   So I drove very slowly over to their house, looking for Ruby.   When I got there, I was informed that they had found her and just gotten home.

From there I learned the story.   Chris had just had cataract surgery yesterday.  He laid down to take a nap and the dog was going crazy with the cleaning people running the vacuum, so he let her outside.  Not sure if he realized the gate was open or not, but Ruby got out.  turns out she wandered a little, then followed a girl and a dog to the park.  She then went to some workers in the park.  She nearly got hit by a car, so the worker tied her to a tree hoping that the owners would come along.  When her shift ended the worker decided that the puppy was too cute to take to the shelter, so she took her home, intending to get her scanned for a chip the next morning

It was probaby a couple hours before she was found to be missing (they have a big yard and garden and Chris was sleeping) They franticly searched the neighborhood.  They did go to the park, but the workers had already left.  So, Beth posted on facebook which  led to other facebook posts going up left and right by all sorts of friends.  One of the people receiving the post had seen a puppy with the park workers earlier in the day.  Another person saw that and knew some of the park workers.  Through this contact they were able to track down the female park worker who took Ruby home for the night.

It was funny, while we were sitting outside their house, several people walked by and said "Are you the people who lost the dog?  Have you found her yet?"  Then there would be a cheer when the good news was shared.  It was quite fun.
