Well, you've read the notes, the notes made Salvador Dali look like a realist, and now it is time for you to post until the surreal cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DOULA!
-
Don't miss today's notes, that's all I can tell you.
-
FIRST POST!
HUZZAH!!

Good Evening/Morning!
Today's tech went well. Since it was basically our one and only rehearsal with our drummer before Sunday night's presentation, we concentrated on the more "groove-ier" songs. It went very well...
...And then we headed back to the rehearsal room to learn the rest of the show. ::)
-
Good evening/morning.

As for the Topic of the Day...
The first two that come to my mind:
Equus
1776

I hope DRs vixmom and elmore have arrived safe and sound at their respective destinations, and that their flights were free of turbulence and crying babies.
-
Good morning, all! Thank you all for the travel vibes, but I am not leaving until around 6:00pm this afternoon. My flight is at 9:45 tonight. in fact, I missed sending vibes to our DR vixmom because I thought today was the vixfamily flight as well.
I had lot of strange Drama Bookshop dreams last night, although I believe thar I did sleep rather soundly, and I am about to put laundry into the washers. Then I shall run down to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription, come back here, pack, and tidy the apartment.
I'm undecided if i will call a car service or take a bus to JFK. I'm leaning toward the first because it's a l2-hr bus trup and I will be sitting a lot for theapproximate 12 hoursfrom my apt to the Hibernian Club.
Decisions, decisions . . .

Morning all.
That is all.
-
Big kisses to Canada and Dublin , two of my favorite places.
-
Last night I watched the 1978 BBC broadcast of Chekhov's THE SEAGULL, with Mr Stephen Rea as Constantin and Zoe Caldwell as Mme Arkadina. Both were quite wonderful, and I really enjoyed Georgina Hale - who is in Ken Russell's films THE BOY FRIEND, MAHLER, and THE DEVILS - as Masha. If I have time to kill this afternoon, I will watch THE DOCTOR AND THE DEVILS.
Time for laundry. Please keep those vibes coming!

Maude Maggart is Brandon Maggart's daughter.
Brandon Maggart starred in Applause with Lauren Bacall. He played Buzz Richards.

I'm getting a haircut this morning.
-
Off to breakfast.
It seems cooler.
Hope it will last.

Travel vibes for DR ELMORE.
The wedding yesterday was very nice - although I don't like the location. It is in a State Park....at a nice amphitheatre - but the only access is down MANY steps and several trails. My sisters were decorating when we arrived at about 12:15 p.m. while several people sat around and WATCHED. So we helped for awhile. There is NOTHING there so you have to bring everything in. The reception was also going to be there, so that was a lot of walking and carrying up and down those steps and trails.
People were arriving at 1:15 p.m. for a 2 p.m. wedding - that didn't happen until 3 p.m.
But now that is one thing OFF my list. I am sure there will be lots of pictures.
Today I work 1/2 day, and then return to THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE this evening.
Whew! Anyway the weather was nice.
-
Thank you for the list DR JOSE.... "My Party Dress" and "In Short" sound irritating beyond belief.
-
Good morning, all.
Vibes and travel vibes and good Saturday vibes for all in need.
I'm off to the Hill Country to be on a rose' panel at one of the wineries up there. I've done this for most of about nine years now and still enjoy it. We talk about how rose' is made, how versatile it is, and, of course, we sip some. I don't sip too much. In fact, I mostly taste and spit, because it's a 90-minute drive each way.
Thankfully, I have Mr. Len Cariou reading one of the latest Michael Connelly novels on CD to keep me company coming and going.

elmore, is the company willing to spring for a car for you to make it easier for you to get to the airport, or did they give you a flat budget?
If they're generous enough to make it easier on you, why not take them up on it? I really think it'll make such a difference in how you approach the whole job if you get a less stressful start on the whole trip.
-
The notes today reminded me of one of odder DVD's I've seen in recent years, Stephen Tobolowsky's Birthday Party, which is hilarious and includes a recipe for how he makes his brats in beer.
-
It's only 77 degrees but it is so humid it's like walking in water. I just came in (walking up 3 flights of stairs) and I'm drenched in sweat!
Ugh!!!
-
Good morning, all.
Had a fitful sleep with one bizarre dream after another, including driveway dreams (don't ask) and one horror dream that I'd fallen asleep while playing in some show. I could use some more sleep, but I shan't even bother trying, as that would only be asking for more trouble. And I have to be up and about anyway, for the Driveway People. (That should be a 1970s TV horror movie -- like the little people under the stairs, etc. Or maybe a Bradbury story. The Driveway People.)
-
I don't think I even posted anything all evening, so I'm glad to hear it's not too late to send GOOD TRIP TO DUBLIN VIBES AND XYLOPHONES to DR Elmore.
I'm afraid poor Vixmom had to make do with all the others she got! :-[

And now I am off to 1/2 day of work. Oh well....

Saturday morning greetings! It is a glorious day here in SW Ohio - temps in the 70s with low humidity. We opened the windows last night and didn't even need the whole-house fan because there's a gentle breeze.
-
Our temperatures would be great but the humidity here is just nasty. I hope we get that break in another day or two.
-
Doing some more SHOW BOAT today. DR Elmore will have a nice little stack of DVDs to enjoy, post-Dublin.
-
DR John G., too, the 1936 film.
-
It's nasty, mean, stupid hot today.
-
BK,
When Stephen Tobolowsky announced his book a couple of weeks ago on FB, I said essentially the same thing to him.
:)
-
Morning all.
I am also sorry I missed Dear Vixmom and wasn't able to wish her good travel vibes. I was so tired last night that I went to bed around seven. I do not know why I can't shake this "don't feel good feeling" and thought the extra sleep would help. I woke around ten thirty last evening, took care of some things, and went back to bed and fell asleep right away.
I feel rested but just not quite up to snuff today. I plan on relaxing and doing nothing more than watching some tv and posting on and off all day today. I did have to take Sheena up to get her leg rewrapped. That didn't take long.
Poor girl. She really doesn't like having her leg wrapped at all and the vet was amazed she was able to get the splint off.
In other news, we had some sky writers this morning. U and God = :) was one message. I had to take Sheena to the vet so the other message or messages were gone by the time I got back.
I don't know why that was done but it was fun to watch as they were writing it.
And since I still have time to do itL
Mega travel vibes to our Dear Elmore! I am pea green with envy and wish I could go with you. Dublin is one of the places I've always wanted to go to. Please take many, many, many photos if possible!
-
Feel-better vibes to you, Danise.
I find something like that's especially annoying on a Saturday morning when you can't just get to a doctor without making a whole big "emergency" of it; it's not serious enough, but you have a feeling something's wrong, is that it?

This Mac World Travel Adapter Kit has proven to be a piece of crap. I've been on the phone with Apple Customer Service and I'm getting old wasting my time. The cable has a plug too wide to fit into the computer.

Problem solved. Nervous breakdown over. Too much in the Travel Kit, too little information, and it was an easier solution than I ever suspected. One more down.

And...
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up.... And, I have to say, green tea soy milk works pretty well with granola.

In other news...
I ended up falling asleep on the couch in the living room last night while the lights and the TV were still on. Again. That seems to be my pattern. However, before that, I did manage to get a load of laundry done - they have really night High Efficiency washers here at this Oakwood. And before I did my laundry, I joined up with some of my fellow TheatreWorks-ians for some sushi, Sapporo and a dip in the hot tub. It was the perfect way to end the day.
-
And now I have to get ready for the start of another day of rehearsal.
Laters...

I've been doing nothing lately but watch the Olympics - and I'm not even a sports fan! I would have got tickets if I'd been able to but I have managed to get a ticket for the Paralympics next month so at least I'll be able to get into that wonderful stadium.
-
I've been doing nothing lately but watch the Olympics - and I'm not even a sports fan! I would have got tickets if I'd been able to but I have managed to get a ticket for the Paralympics next month so at least I'll be able to get into that wonderful stadium.
Same here, though you've probably watched a lot more than I have.
The only Olympics I've been around was Los Angeles in 1984, so that was the start of my fondness for at least the casual watching I like to do. I don't know why I pretty much ignored Beijing, but this has definitely been a nice one.
I just wish there wasn't so much air time (at least in the times I've been watching) devoted to games like volleyball. It seems endless. I really prefer the distillation of pure skills, as opposed to "games".
-
Oh, also meant to say that though I didn't try to get tickets in L.A., I did go to UCLA and the Coliseum to bask in the atmosphere and excitement. And at the Coliseum, I got handed a couple of unused tickets to go right in and watch some track and field. That was wonderful.
You know what? (No, of course you don't. But I'll tell you.) I still have my BETA HI-FI tape of the opening and closing ceremonies, marathon, and maybe a few other things. Too bad I don't have a machine to play it on.
-
I'm up (barely) and will shortly be on my way to do a radio show.

I find something like that's especially annoying on a Saturday morning when you can't just get to a doctor without making a whole big "emergency" of it; it's not serious enough, but you have a feeling something's wrong, is that it?
Sort of. I can't say it's a headache or stomach ache or "I'm coming down with a cold" feeling, I don't have a fever--it's just a very general "blah" that I can't shake. I can only say I just don't feel right/good but I don't think a doctor would help because I can't tell him what is wrong.
-
DR Cilla I'm glad the story had a happy ending. Do you know if Ruby has a microchip? If not I would suggest they get her one.
-
DR Danise I hope a restful weekend will help you to feel better.
-
DR elmore I wasn't sure I would be able to post this morning. We have been working very hard around here getting things in order inside the house while the crew has been dismantling the outside.
This weekend I also need to semi pack for my weekend trip to the family wedding. I won't be able to concentrate on packing during the week with men "prowling" around the windows. ;)

Today we shall rent our first BlueRay movie.
Question, can we only watch blue ray disks or can we watch regular DVD's? I have to think that the few dvd's we own are now obsolete, or that we can't watch old tv shows Keith's brother lends us.

SmarterTravel.com has an interesting article on "Ten Great State Fairs for Deep Fried Fun." This includes my very own Puyallup Fair, which opens next month (and which I will not be attending). Among the
Low High Low Points are Fried Kool-Aid, Deep-Fried Manicotti, Deep-Fried Biscuits and Gravy, Deep-Fried Mashed potatoes, and my favorite - Chocolate Covered Corn Dogs.

I've just been watching the cross-country mountain bike race which was fun.
I don't know what the NBC coverage has been like but the BBC have provided 24 live HD TV channels, each one showing a different sport, giving a tremendous range of coverage. The TV coverage, by the Olympic Broadcasting Service, has been technically brilliant with a huge number of remote cameras in use, providing some stunning pictures.

An hour ago the power went out for a few minutes - very annoying. For some reason, the air conditioner was then emitting warm air - very annoying. I shut it off and just turned it on again and hopefully it will work the way it should - otherwise it's going to be a nasty evening and tomorrow before I can get someone here to deal with it. Guess I'll know soon.
-
Someone just posted this - so nice I had to share:
Dearest Bruce, I am sitting here in amazement, with tears in my eyes, listening to the show that changed my theatergoing life, the show I traveled to Boston to see in tryout, the show I saw on opening night in New York, the show I had to beg the box office to sell me standing room when the show was not (and never was) sold out, the show I dragged everyone I knew to see and almost none of them got it, the show I wrote to Hal Prince for a standing room ticket for the closing night, the show whose final performance was one of the most exciting events in my then-young life (when they announced that Kurt Peterson would be playing Young Ben at that performance, a roar went up in the theatre, and I knew I was in for the ride of my life, and it was).
After so many near-miss and not-quite-right attempts to get this show right, along comes Bruce to recreate the magic, as intact as it can possibly be, and sounding the way that it never did on recording. Thank you, Bruce, from the bottom of my heart and for all of FOLLIES fanatics out there, for this miracle.
-
Sorry to appear to sit here like so much fish. Rob and Mary Linda came up to do some errands here in Middletown and ended up staying to watch the women's Olympic basketball game and stay for dinner. We had a nice visit and now they're on their way home, by way of IKEA.

Wow! That has got to feel good.

Sorry to appear to sit here like so much fish. Rob and Mary Linda came up to do some errands here in Middletown and ended up staying to watch the women's Olympic basketball game and stay for dinner. We had a nice visit and now they're on their way home, by way of IKEA.
Craig will need IKEA once he moves in. He left just about everything behind in storage for us to give to a charity. Unless he hauled it again himself, a horrible thought with this heat & the pets, the cost of shipping was about the same to replace.

I worry that Amazon users can easily see all the reviews that one person posts
Like here's mine
http://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-reviews/A1WI7EX6EGJKIH/ref=cm_cr_pr_auth_rev?ie=UTF8&sort_by=MostRecentReview
and won't they wonder if they notice a pattern in who the person writes reviews about, if there are few reviews, even if the reviews are a while apart

Power went out again. Let's put on our thinking caps and figure out why: Could it be that the entitled of Studio City pump their AC units twenty-four hours a day and therefore cause a mass overload? These idiots, these creeps - I turn on my air, get the house cooled down and then guess what? I shut the damn thing OFF.

FJL, funny I don't see any book reviews for certain books by certain haineshisway.com authors (not just me). Most unseemly.

That's my oh-so-subtle question, Bruce. Out of five products I reviewed there, two are Kritzerland products by Bruce Kimmel.
Does it look weird if there's a third review of a Bruce Kimmel Kritzerland product, or does nobody notice that kind of thing is my question?
-
JohnG's book got 5 stars of course. Highly recommended.
For some reason, it just lists his co-writer on my recommendations list, but I definitely really liked the parts that JohnG wrote, too.
:)

Bruce, is BRAIN FROM PLANET X actually no longer available? Or is it just out of their stock temporarily?

Nobody cares. Review away.

I'm rethinking amazon in terms of the way we work with them. But Brain is actually being pressed anew as we speak, as is Guy Haines - out of both. Amazon is currently taking sixty percent of sales and that's just stupid. So, at some point I'll figure out how to set up an amazon "shop" - they only take about 5% of those sales and that's fine.

Dust storm.
Has it passed yet?

Hello, everyone.
-
When I posted yesterday I didn't realize that it was the Vixfamily's travel day. So belated travel vibes to them! And early travel vibes for the trip home. And GREAT VACATION vibes for all the time in between!
-
Great reviews, Bruce. You must be feeling very pleased.

Our heat wave continues. Each day this week the forecast has basically said, "It'll be hot today, but cooler the rest of the week." Then the following day is another hot one. All week. Oy. I'll believe the cool down when I see it.

Cilla, I can understand why you're excited about your new RAV4, given your winter weather. My Volvo sedan has heated seats and they are such a pleasure on cold mornings. I loved them in the East, and have actually been able to use them here, too, on a few cold mornings.
-
Productive trip vibes to Larry. Hope all goes smoothly.
-
Dust storm.
vibes for safety.
But if all is well, you won't want to miss what sounds like an answer to FOREVER PLAID:

Back from too long a day running around. Don't know how long I can stay up. But the rose' panel was fun, the wines were good and the weather, well, 105 degrees.
-
Found a DVD of "Every Little Step" at a used bookstore on the way home. Hope to watch it in the next week. Also found the Charles Strouse autobiography and a Busby Berkeley book. Just no time to read them.
-
It's a slow dust storm and I am inside. The dust is still hanging in the air.

Craig isn't have a very good trip & has spent up to two hours in the evening finding a place to sleep. This morning he decided to take a side trip to see one of the great landmarks of this country. ;D
He was in Iowa! Right near the covered bridges of Madison County. Wonder if he saw any of them
Saw what, the bridges of Madison County? I'll have to ask. I'm shocked he even took this side trip. He couldn't get out of the car & leave the pets in it.
Winterset is the birthplace of John Wayne and is also the county seat of Madison County. The bridges of Madison County are pretty cool, but probably a little too off the beaten track for a side trip
-
Hope everyone had a great day

LOL Jane, you sound like my mom, she's wrapped in a blanket while others are running around in shorts

It's been cool here again. The rain seems to keep missing us, but we are supposed to have rain tonight. I hope so. We are in extreme drought right now. But the temps are finally great. It was in the 70s today and will be again tomorrow. mostly 80s all week. It's fabulous.
-
Wanted to see the meteor shower tonight, but I'll take rain
-
I started working out on my new exercise bike today. I'm doing 15 minutes on the bike and 15 minutes on the treadmill to get started. Then as long as I was hot and sweaty already I vacuumed the basement and basement stairs, and did a bunch of other chores. Good to have them done
-
Tomorrow i'm going to the lake for the day. It's 120 miles from here. Yesterday, my dad said "Don't forget to bring your car, if you walk we won't get to see it". Sheesh!
-
Great email, BK.
Hope the dust settles quickly, Laura.

It's a slow dust storm and I am inside. The dust is still hanging in the air.
When is it expected to end?

Too bad they don;t still do those "Nothing becomes a legend most" ads, becomes Usain Bolt would be great for that.
-
Page five? Thinking about food. Don't really want to eat anything major, but some little snack or other.
-
I have to look for the photo, but I have one of Boo when I first found her laying on her back and holding her paws in a way that looks just like "the Bolt" move
-
Hey Page 6!

Good Evening!
I slept poorly last night, and, consequently, felt a little out of sorts at rehearsal today. However, it was a good rehearsal. We have a four rehearsal/run-thru tomorrow morning, and then our first presentation tomorrow afternoon at 4:00pm PDT. And then a staff BBQ and panel discussion... And then Monday is a day off... And I think I may hop on the Caltrain up to San Francisco for the day. :)
-
I hope DR elmore had a great trip over to Dublin. -Although, I guess he could still be in transit right now. ???
-
And I hope DR vixmom and the rest of the vixfamily had a good travel day today too.
-
And, since I have that "must get some sleep" headache...
Goodnight.
-
Night, all.

I'll definitely be leaving reviews for the books, and it will be a pleasure. Just getting my thoughts together.
FJL brings up something I've wondered about Amazon reviews. I've finally come to believe that only in the most extreme circumstances does anything ever get noticed by another user. There have been three, maybe four times, that I've come across something so unbelievably absurd that I take the trouble to click on "see my other reviews" to see what's up with this person. In every instance, I was rewarded -- there was some notable pattern or other. Or it was that person's only review on Amazon, ever, which was just as telling.
Like BK says, nobody cares. I'd go so far as to say it's expected. Leaving a string of similarly positive reviews for a series of works from one person or company doesn't even come close to behavior that merits notice. For my part, I try to say something that's unique to my own experience of the thing. And even if that isn't so easy for one reason or another, I've been assured that a simple "Loved it!", with five stars, does a world of good.
