Well, you've read the notes, the notes said a little prayer, and now it is time for you to post until the praying cows come home.

Happy Happy Birthday, Ron P.!

Good morning, all! I slept late because I am taking the next two days off as a mini-vacation. I have to be in midtown at 11:30 for a meeting on CHRISTMAS UP THE HOLLER, and then today and tomroow are mine. I suspecty I shall spend most of that reading - I found my missing copy of TIME AND AGAIN - and catching up on DVDs.
I have nothing else to report at the moment.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday To Our DR Ron Pulliam !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday to DR Ron!!!!!

I've sorted out about 50 DVDs which I no longer need and will take them to the charity shop this week.
-
Good morning, all.
Pleased to report that I was able to get some well-needed extra sleep this morning, and I shall show my appreciation to the Ye Gods by actually getting out and mowing the lawn today.
-
Happy birthday to dear DR Ron P!

I just have to say the notes are a beautiful tribute to Hal David.
In fact, they've inspired me to declare it Bacharach and David Day on the players: turntable, CD, DVD, whatever I've got. And tonight's previously scheduled viewing of HUGO in 3D will now be pre-empted for a special showing of LOST HORIZON.

Have made it to the resort on Canyon Lake, but the rooms are not wi-fi'd, so I shall be E&T for a couple of days. I'm having to go to a room next to the pool and that ain't fun.

So...
About last night...
My friend, Brendan, and I went out for some ramen for dinner, and then we headed over to Brandy's. When we walked through the door, we found that it was packed. -Which is actually a good thing and nice to see. However, it seemed to populated with lots of married couples and girls having their night out. I'm fine with the married couples, but the bachelorette parties.. UGH! Oh, and the pianist who I was hoping to hear again was not there since he had another gig, and his sub was good, but left a bit to be desired - he spent a bit too much time looking up songs on his iPad. However, my friend, Lauren, was back on the floor, and the usual bartending staff, Joe and Bobby, made it worth to stay for a little while.
My friend, Yosh, soon joined us, so we stuck it out for a little longer. It was a good night, although, there was one woman who kept telling me that I was crowding her. I had stepped away from the rail to drop my empty beer bottle on the bar, and when I stepped back into my spot it was clear that I was now stepping back into her spot. I held my ground for a bit, then eventually shifted up to an empty space by the bar. And she was soon getting crowded in by a group of eight college students who walked in behind her. Karma, baby. Karma. ::)

Oh... And since my friends and I were actually one of the few gay people in the gay bar last night, Bobby treated us to a round of tequila shots...
And that led to a trip earlier this morning for a Big Breakfast at McDonald's. ;)

Tequila makes you eat McDonald's food?

And... A little while ago, I got a text from Steve reminding me that he and some friends from Richmond would be coming into town later today. -They're all driving back from Provincetown, and they're going to stay the night. So... We'll be heading to Becco for dinner... And then they want to go to - wait for it - Brandy's afterwards.
And it also looks like I'll be playing tour guide for a few hours this afternoon too.

In a few weeks, I will be starting my vacation loop:
September 14-17 - Boston
September 17 (late!)-21 - Seattle
September 21-24 - Portland
September 24-27 - San Francisco
September 27-30 - Chicago
If you happen to be in or near one of those cities, I'd love to meet up with you. Kind of an HHW Rainbow Tour. ;)

It was standing room last night, so, basically, once you found a spot you kept it.

Speaking of RAINBOW TOUR, my friend Keith reminded me of a bit he and I had done at a party which (kind of perversely) spoofed Forbidden Bway of all things - we're trying to recall the whole number, it had gone over pretty well, though it was rather inside -
it was pretty known then that Gerard Alessandrini had made fun of Patti LuPone's thighs (her "Stubby Kaye thigh")
The part he remembered was
"Patti"- to tune of RAINBOW HIGH:
Such behavior
I think he's a meanie
That Alessandrini
My "Anything Goes"
Is simply fantastic
It's like he's in Junior High
Instead of my singing
He knocks my thigh

Oh! I had a great time last night despite the very few annoyances. It looks like my friend, Brendan, just picked up a job with Hawaiian Airlines, so were pre-celebrating, and my friend, Yosh, just got back from a month overseas, so it was his "Welcome Home" bash too. And Lauren sang "Fifty-Percent" which always quiets the bar and then brings it down. Good times. :)

Off to work for a couple of hours.
DR JOSE - you're crowding me.

I have returned from our Appalachian meeting. I have two press kits to send out and we have a date set for our next reasding of the piece, September 24, Monday, if any DR would liketo come. I'll announce the time when I know it, but I suspect late morning or early afternoon.
We met at the Delta Grill on 48th and Ninth Ave. I had an omelette, DJ had poached eggs with spinach, and Kevin had smething that looked like an omelette - but wasn't - with potatoes and other yummy things. Their Cajun menu looks delicious.

Sherlock had a bell to ring when he wanted to go outside. He used to ring the bell to get me to go play with him. The bed takes two minutes to make instead of 20. The list keeps going on. This song has been running through my head since he left us. :'(

Am having a wonderful birthday weekend...watching lots of DVD/BD shows and movies...talking on the telephone, etc. The weather is gorgeous. I have a coconut birthday cake I'm going to cut this afternoon (it's a small cake and it's mine-all-mine), I'm a fixin' to chow down on some KFC with veggies, and I refuse to believe I am 64 years old!!!
Many thanks to Bruce, George, Doug R., Ben, Jennifer, Laura, Larry, Jack, Kerry, Fred, ChasSmith, John G, Kevin H., Jose, Arnold, Tom and Jane for the wonderful birthday greetings.
VERY much appreciate it!!!

Happy Birthday, Ron!

We went into town for lunch today. We supported a restaurant that just re-opened after the downtown fire months ago. This is the last place of business to be back in business. We felt bad for them missing out on all of the seasonal tourists.

A very happy birthday to Dear Ron Pulliam!!!
Enjoy your long birthday weekend!!

I must admit that I've never seen the whole movie, just bits here and there. I'm recording it but will have to watch it later. I'm off to my sister's for a little bit.

Be back later.

Hello, everyone.

I have nothing to say today.

A MOST HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOR DR RON PULLIAM!!
May you have a lovely day!
-
Hello, Laura.
-
I have very little to say.
-
TCB, have you watched the Julian Fellowes TITANIC? I've been watching it and it's a very nicely done production. Has anyone else seen it?
-
Hi Jeanne.
-
TTFN.
-
Good Evening!
So...
When I got down to the Hilton, Steve mentioned that his friends were lined up at TKTS since they wanted to go ahead and catch a matinee. "Do you want to join us?" -Well, sure. So they ended up getting tickets to Peter & the Starcatcher. -I had seen the show twice before - once downtown at New York Theatre Workshop and once during its first week of previews on Broadway - but was more than happy to see it again...
-
The show is in very good shape. I will admit that I missed Christian Borle's presence, but Matt Saldivar has really made "Blackstache" his own. And Adam Chanler-Berat and Celia Keenan-Bolger broke my heart again during the final scene. It also turned out that Orville Mendoza was on today as "Alf", and I was glad I caught one of his performances.
Oh, and it was a great audience today too! I was a little wary when I saw the hordes of people with shopping bags walking in, but, at least where were sitting, everyone was quiet, kept their cellphones off and didn't unwrap any candies. Best of all, they all got the show.
-
And since they all wanted to get settled into their hotel rooms and take a little break before dinner, I went ahead and biked back up to the UES.
And...
Here I am.

We'd better just have a frenzy or three in my absence.
-
I guess it was the Christmas meeting, but I've been watching the wonderful BBC miniseries THE NATIVITY, wth Andrew Buchan as Joseph and the fantastic Irish actor John Lynch as the angel Gabriel. It's quite good.
DR Jeanne, I want to see the versionof TITANIC that youare watching. I missed the broadcast.
I forgot that tomorrow I have to listen to the masters for EILEEN and sign off on them. I may take them to Toyland and listen on the superior sound system there.
-
I have nothing else to report,
-
so I guess
-
there will be no frenzy
-
from me tonight.
-
No sirree.
-
TCB, have you watched the Julian Fellowes TITANIC? I've been watching it and it's a very nicely done production. Has anyone else seen it?
No, I haven't seen it, Jeanne.
-
I suppose that means that I have to start a "frenzy."
-
There is a promo for the new satanic-soap opera 666 PARK AVENUE that has a song being sung in the background. To my untrained ears, the singer sounds like the late Nell Carter, but I have no idea what the song might be. Anyone?
-
Good grief. I am at a loss as to what to dsicsuss.
What is your favorite elephant movie?
JUMBO. Sorry, I am not crazy about that cartoon movie.
-
Hey, it is a post.

I have free tickets to the circus today!
Often they have it 5 minutes away. But this year it is a bit further. About 30 minutes. But luckily a very easy route that shouldn't have traffic. So that part is good.
It will be my 3 year old niece's first time at the circus. Yesterday we were reading a book and there was a clown in it. And i asked her if she thought she would like seeing a clown. And she replied, "um probably not".
:)
Which circus company?
The Shriner's circus.

She doesn't really like clowns. But luckily they didn't come right up to her. She seemed to like it. Although she said her favorite part of it was the treats.

Has anyone here watched the Ethel Merman / Frank Sinatra ANYTHING GOES? Just from the bits and pieces I have seen, I don't think I would care for it. I would rather hunt around for a ootleg-bay copy of Sutton Foster's version (if such a thing exicsted).
-
Rosebud!
-
Cranberries.
-
It was quite hot at the circus. So after we went swimming. Tomorrow is the last day the pool will be open. :(
It's too bad since the weather is super nice.
-
¿Por qué?
-
Just made some strawberry/pineapple/banana/mango yonanas. Tasty! My niece is also obsessed with it. And so are my sister and brother-in-law. So tasty! I find myself using it every other day (and making two servings and freezing it for the in between day). My freezer is so full of frozen fruit.
-
Which circus was it, Jennifer? Did you enjoy it?

Just out running errands. Yes, more errands. Always more errands. The errands never stop. They never go away. The errands are with us always.

I wish I had some errands.

No, then I would have to do them.

They should be automated. Someone should have invented an Errand Machine decades ago.

DR Elmore: I've eaten at Delta Grill a couple of times, and for the most part I liked the Cajun dishes, but IMHO one thing to avoid there is the fried green tomatoes which are gussied up to a fare-thee-well. Not that I've ever known for sure what a fare-thee-well is. But I suspect I've seen one at Delta Grill.
-
I have never had fried green tomatoes.
-
I seem to be contributing nothing of interest to the board, so I should go to bed.

It is Baseball Night in America on ESPN.

G'night!

I'm glad the clowns didn't get too close.
-
Which circus was it, Jennifer? Did you enjoy it?
Shriner's circus.
It was enjoyable. Although they had a lot of filler acts. And the intermission was really long to allow elephant rides.
-
I remember the first year my older niece went to the circus we had to leave at intermission. She was scared of everything.
This year the scary act was missing. The past 2 years they have had this man who runs inside a huge sky level wheel. He has no safety. And it was quite something to watch. Very crazy.
-
Sunday evening greetings! We had a longer than usual day in Lima because Fr. Richard had to make a shut-in call. I did some shopping while he ministered, then we went to Panera for lunch. When we got home about 4pm, Rob and Mary Linda were back after attending their church, picking up their weekly vegetables from their CSA (community-supported agriculture), and trying to visit my Mom. Rob was quite concerned that she told him on the phone that she wasn't up to company and I had to talk him down from the ledge of panic. Seems I'll have to investigate tomorrow...
Anyway, they stayed until early evening and we finalized our plans to go out next Saturday to celebrate Rob's birthday, which is really Friday.
-
Speaking of birthdays, happiest to DR Ron Pulliam!

When we were in L.A. on July 4th our friend gave us candy bars from her retirement party. Once home I slid one of the bars out of the special wrapping, with my friend's photo on it, and was surprised to find they were plain old Hersey bars. Since my taste in chocolate is too refined for Hershey's the bars have sat in my private candy drawer. Yes, I have my personal snack drawer and have had one since the children were young. It didn't keep them out of it but they knew better than to share with their friends or to over indulge.
I just noticed that one bar is completely missing and the other wrapper is minus the candy bar. Keith isn't a big chocolate fan, nor is Craig. I thought maybe Keith had given them to the workers. Nope, he didn't know what I was talking about.
Now I'm thinking Craig took them. The question is how long have they been missing. I can't imagine I didn't notice sooner. It isn't a very big drawer, however, I'm in multiple times through each & every day. ;D

and trying to visit my Mom. Rob was quite concerned that she told him on the phone that she wasn't up to company and I had to talk him down from the ledge of panic.
This is sweet of him.
I hope your mother is feeling better tomorrow.
Hugs DR Ginny.

Good Evening!
Dinner as Becco was wonderful as always. -And, as an added treat, Rory O'Malley from The Book of Mormon was there with his boyfriend. -They really are such a cute couple. There were a couple of other "Broadway Babies" also having dinner.
-
It looks like I'll be playing tour guide for a few hours tomorrow. So, that should be fun.

Oh... And I did not end up back at Brandy's tonight. They had driven down from Boston this morning, so their day started at 7:00am. My day started a little later than that, but after last night, well... ;)
It will be nice to get in bed before 3:00am tonight. ::)

Larry, Joe and Tom say hi right back to you!
Jose - these are our friends Joe and Tom, who were involved with the film FRIENDS AND FAMILY with Toval Feldshuh and Brian Lane Green and Edward Hibbert and Beth Fowler and Anna Maria Alberghetti (Joe was the screenwriter of the film). They've since left "the business" - Joe is a successful doctor for the VA, and Tom doing very well as a businessman.

Some of you will laugh and laugh, but I loved LOST HORIZON this evening. In spite of the places where it goes off the tracks, or maybe it's the viewer that goes off the tracks, there are some strong, beautiful scenes, with eye and ear candy galore. Certainly one of the more beautiful failures of all time.
I wish I'd gone to see it when it was released, which IMDb tells me was in March 1973. What kept me from it? I'd been living in Hollywood almost a year, loving the life there and going to a lot of things. It would surely have made some difference in how I ended up perceiving the film when I did finally see it some years later. Sadly, that was on TV, on some hideous afternoon movie, panned and scanned and commercial-interrupted out of existence. I was never so quickly turned against something, and it wasn't till the widescreen laserdisc appeared that I was able to begin appreciating it in small doses.
Even with the coming of the Sony DVD-R last year, I never watched it all straight through. Until tonight. I kept thinking I'd probably take a break halfway through, but I couldn't make myself turn it off and break the spell. I kid you not. And I haven't had a drop, your Honor! (Really.)

Lost Horizon is coming on blu-ray.

Back from a fun concert of film music at the Hollywood Bowl.

Today was tech for Legally Blonde. We got through the show, but there are some holes to fill in tomorrow. There was this weird vibe in the theatre today. Our SM, whom I've worked with before, was in a weird mood, and things weren't as clean as usual. I'm hoping this will pass.
It's been a long day.

The day is almost done and I find I can tolerate being 64.
Many thanks to Druxy, vixmom, Jeanne, Ginny, Cillaliz, Mike and Matthew for their greetings.
TCB: You are welcome for the holiday. My mother always told me she was in labor for the longest time and that it was only fitting that my birthday would be named after it. She always laughs when she says it, so I don't think the labor was all that grievous for her! ;)
