Good morning, all! I have  quiet day, now that I have finished all of the prep work for the Appalachian piece.

Tonight I am having dinner with an old acquaintance from Middletown, OH, Helen (now Elena) Rivero, whom I've not seen in nearly 35 years. We were in a production of THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE around 1976, and for months after the production, I used to hang out at her apartment with a friend who married Helen's sister Rebeca.

I believe dinner is at the apartment of a friend of hers on 42nd Street.

Saturday morning greetings!  Today we're off to Wilmington, OH, for a football game.  Heidelberg University is playing there and our dear niece/goddaughter is their grad student athletic trainer.  Big tailgate lunch beforehand with her Mom, her boyfriend, his Mom, and Rob and Mary Linda.  Go, 'berg!

I'll have you all know I had a pretty damned fine night's sleep, with my customary weird dreams, the only one of which I can even begin to recall now had to do with some abstraction to the end passage of the LAWRENCE OF ARABIA overture.

Sadly, regretfully, embarrassingly, and shamefully, I probably don't know who's British and who isn't, among all the composers I love.  For instance, I would not have thought of John Barry.

DR ChasSmith, I am not sure of the exact time of the reading.  We are at Shetler Studios on Monday from 11:30-4:30, but the first half of the day is rehearsal. I expect the reading to begin some time around 2:30-3:00.  Shetler Studios is at 244 West 54th Street, and we are in Studio 1 on the 12th floor.

I will know more after tomorrow's rehearsal.

If anyone says anything or asks questions, tell them you're my guest. I look forward to seeing you. Almost all ofthecast has done either the initial reading or the Hilton Head production. The actor taking David Lutken's role is unfamiliar to me; David's doing a show outoftown at the moment.

I'll have you all know I had a pretty damned fine night's sleep, with my customary weird dreams, the only one of which I can even begin to recall now had to do with some abstraction to the end passage of the LAWRENCE OF ARABIA overture.

I'd been chilly the night and morning before, so indulgently left the heat on through the night.  It got to be just a bit much by morning, but felt good anyway.  Not to mention anyhoo.

Here's the most exciting thing we saw during today's Heidelberg/Wilmington game:

"In the ensuing possession, Mees threw an incompletion on first down. On second down, Brooks flashed through the right side of the line, broke toward the sideline and raced 99 yards for a touchdown. That rush broke a 55 year old Heidelberg record, set on a 98 yard run by Walter Livingston in 1956."

We were sitting in the second row along the sideline Brooks followed during this run.

Back.  The play was so-so.  Funny, but tries too hard to be outrageous, I thought.  (Mamet's NOVEMBER.)  I can honestly say I would rather have been watching one of DR TCB's plays.  Great lineup of roles there, sir.

Just got done going through a huge genealogy file a cousin sent me. He had some info I did not have and a he was spot on for a lot information I had.

I did have my amusements with the family of unisex names. He only had first names and no middle names or marriage information. Hmmm makes it interesting to select the gender... I put them as question marks....

And in a few hours, DR MBarnum will be kidnapping taking me around for the day. In the meantime, I think I'm just going to enjoy the quiet morning in my hotel room. I had thought about heading to Voodoo Doughnut (http://voodoodoughnut.com), but I think I need a Day Without Doughnuts. But that could change. ;)

I was very disappointed in the doughnut's once I finally got to taste them.  I was very glad I decided not to wait in the hour line.  They were ok but, to me, not worth the lines for them.

I've heard that some of the flavors at Voodoo can be a bit "hyped" up. However, I've also been advised to always ask "What just came out of the fryer?" since not all of their varieties turnover at the same rate. Freshest is bestest. ;)

I think I'm just going to relax in my hotel room for the evening. Tomorrow I'm meeting up with a classmate of mine from college, as well as opera colleague. And I'll most likely start my day off with an early trip to Voodoo for a doughnut or two, followed by a nice bike ride around the Willamette River.
