Title: JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED
Post by: bk on July 25, 2004, 12:03:34 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes have been just what the doctor ordered (along with a side of fries), and now you are ready to post until the doctored cows come home.

Good Early Morning!

Just wanted to pop in and post before heading to bed.  I'd stay up later, but I got some rehearsal for some show I'm doing in the morning...  Ah, well... ;)

-I also just remembered, I still need to put the clean sheets on the bed... but, of course, I can't do that until I put all the clean and folded laundry that I placed on the "naked bed" in some sort of order on the floor, suitcase and/or dresser drawer...

About The Sting II...

It's one of the worst movies I've ever seen.  The single competent thing in the movie is Lalo Schifrin's score; I even have the LP, which really deserves to be re-issued on CD.  I'd buy it in a New York minute.  Or even a Cleveland minute.

We're going to a surprise party this afternoon - lunch for a neighbor, to take place at a winery on the Niagara Peninsula.

My questions of the day: Does anyone actually like surprise parties? (Me? I just don't see the point.) And does anyone have memorable experiences to share?

I don't know how memorable today's will be, but I'll be sure to provide details. My friend Jean, who has arranged the whole affair, is feeling stressed. I know she'll be delighted when it's all over.

I, too, must be off, away from the home fries.  A full day awaits me at work, and it's raining, so it will be another busy busy day.

A question for the DRs, however: Last night, I watched the new "opening" and "closing" bits included on the Bourne Identity DVD.  They didn't impress me at all.  So: Has an "alternate ending" ever struck any DR as an "improvement" on a film compared with it's original theatrical release?

I got home at midnight and went to bed.  I slept for 9 hours, but that clearly wasn't enough!

My sis had 2 parties at her new house yesterday.  One for family during the day (at noon, i got there at 10:30am & 5pm).

The night party had 10+ kids.  And they were all animals.  I watched them till about 9pm.  Then played some games with the adults.  I am so competitive!

We played Password.  It was women against men.  It was sort of unfair that I was giving clues to my sister.  Because it is SO MUCH EASIER to play that game with someone you know well. :)

Has an "alternate ending" ever struck any DR as an "improvement" on a film compared with it's original theatrical release?

No.

Alternate endings and deleted scenes are interesting to watch, but there's usually a good reason they ended up on the cutting-room floor.

Especially with the advent of the deeveedee format, more people have become interested in the processes of making movies.  There are more opportunities to see The Man Behind the Curtain, so to speak, and I'm not sure that that's a good thing.  With all the bonus materials the studios are putting into the deeveedee releases, there's a lot of amateur (and amateurish) second-guessing and "Monday Morning Quarterbacking"* going on by half-wits on internet message boards, and in print, and so on.

Whether or not this is a good thing, I think, is still up in the air...maybe it'll turn out to be a healthy thing, maybe not.  But this phase, I have no doubt, will eventually become tiresome to the average moviegoer again.  Someday, I believe that the movies will take center stage again, and folks won't be so interested in the process of getting them made anymore.

*Hey, I just used a sports metaphor!  I don't think I've ever done that before!

Good morning, all!  I checked out the postings yesterday and I meant to jump in, but it wasn't a good day for sitting at the computer, and my back was behaving badly.  The muscle relaxant I'm taking knocks me out, so I think I'm sleeping around 16 hours a day right now.  I'm going stir-crazy in the apartment. and my only trip outside the building since Tuesday, and an occasional trek to the corner market, was to see the doctor on Thursday.  Today, however, the pain seems slighter, so I'm hoping that's a good sign.

I had nothing to add on yesterday's posts about beverages, but I was happy to learn about "rock and rye" since it's what flows through Circe's veins in THE GOLDEN APPLE, according to Mayor Hector Charybdis.

I saw "La Ceremonie" around 1997, Dear Friend BK, and I enjoyed it immensely.  I think it's the only film I've seen where the beautiful Jacqueline Bisset speaks French.  I liked the film enough to track down the novel, which was out of print in the US, and I bought a copy of JUDGMENT IN STONE at Foyles on Charing Cross Road while I was recording MOST HAPPY FELLA in 1998.  I can't remember if the novel is set in France, as is the film, or in England, but the ending was changed for the film, and the discovery of the killers in the book hinges on the DON GIOVANNI (the "Judgment in Stone" refers to the satue of the dead Commendatore who drags Don Giovanni down to hell in the opera)  broadcast that they are trying to tape when the killings occur.

Alternate Endings:  I'm a lucky owner of the first DVD release of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS which includes in black and white the original film ending,  and I do believe the alternate ending is wrong, no matter what the preview audiences thought.

Now, I realize I was vague about the LITTLE SHOP alternate ending.  To me, the original ending, whichg follows the play, is my preferred ending.  Of course, on the DVD it's an alternate.  Too many semantics!

Saw 2 shows at the Midtown Theatre Festival this weekend… an old play and a new musical.  The old play was THE SUBJECT WAS ROSES, and I’m happy to say that the play itself held up well.  It was a very mixed cast for only three people, with an excellent son, a fair father and a barely adequate mother with a voice like Betty Boop.  The father was much better in scenes with the son than when the mother was his scene partner.  It was well staged, but whoever picked the songs for the radio and the scene changes chose too many records that were recorded up to about eight years after the play took place.  This play (in a better production)  should have a major revival soon.

ROSES had an all Equity cast which proves that Equity will allow anyone to join regardless of talent.  With one notable exception, the non-Equity cast of the new musical DELILAH was far superior even if the material they had to work with was not.  It was like a poor imitation early Rice & Lloyd Weber show telling the story of SAMSON AND DELILAH from her point of view and tying it all up with a speech by a George Bush clone calling the enemies terrorists and saying to follow the leaders with no questions.  The score was passable, but the whole show was worth it for the performance in the title role of Uzo Aduba, a young woman with a voice that should take her far.  Her Samson, who shall remain nameless here, should never set foot on any stage again.  Otherwise the cast was quite good, and for a low budget show the costumes were almost on a Ziegfeldian scale.

Sorry to be E&T yesterday.  I think I tried to do to much.  I took the dogs for a walk then went to the grocery store.  I started feeling a bit ill at the second stop.  I took a nap when I got home and only got up to eat then went back to bed.  I feel fine now.

Does any DR have any special method to use to learn lines for a play?  I expected to play a SMALLER part!

Are you bragging or complaining?   :)  Seriously, the best method I know of is to have a friend go over the lines with you.  Or record your lines and try to listen to them as much as possible.

Drinks.  I’m amazed that so many of you like water best!  I always thought I was such a square because that’s my drink of choice as well.  I like Sprite, 7-Up, Root Beer and Cream Soda but it’s rare that I have one.

Tea.  Now that I LOVE.  I have several favorites but I especially like Jasmine tea.  It smells as good as it tastes.

I’ve tried my best to like coffee but I can’t stand it.   I’ve tried all the different flavors of both coffee and creams.  It smells good but I just can’t get past that bitter taste no matter how much sugar I put in it.  Decaf tastes the same as the regular to me.  I can’t tell the difference.

As far alcoholic drinks are concerned, I avoid them.  To much of a control freak, I guess.  It’s a rare, rare, rare occasion that I have any kind of alcohol.  Someone once said that drinking is like putting a thief in your mouth to rob you of your brains.  I find I have to agree with that 110%.    I don’t, however,  hold it against anyone who wants to drink.

Jane, I do hope you are feeling much better now.  I was very sorry to read you weren’t up to snuff.

Healing vibes to you!  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Elmore, Same to you! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  I hope your back is getting better.

DRLaura, Hope your doing much better.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Panni, you too!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

RLP  How is that arm coming?  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Michael’s Dad as well.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Tomovoz, How is that cold?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Heck, let’s just send out good vibes for all!  It sounds like most of us need them right now!

Actually, while the viewer obviously knows what's going on in La Ceremonie, in the film the discovery of the killers hinges on the broadcast of Don Giovanni as well - at least, what you're describing happens in the film.

I wasn't clear on that:  the film implies that the killers will be caught because of the tape, but the novel goes much further into apprehension of the killers.  Unfortunately, it's been 6 years since I read the book, so it's all vague now.  Good book.  Good movie.

Confidential to Dear Reader Jose:  There is a little office complex on Sunset Boulevard called "Crossroads of the World."  That name would be quite apt, too, for the intersection of Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards, where you were yesterday.

The signs you saw with the cyrillic lettering probably were in Armenian, as the Los Feliz area has a large Armenian population.  Next door Glendale has the largest concentration of Armenians in the world outside of Yerevan.

Just a little further down Vermont Avenue, as you near Wilshire Boulevard, the signage starts popping up in Korean.  Signage in Spanish and English, of course, is everywhere.

Speaking of Lalo Schifrin...

I tend to think of Mr. Schifrin as a great composer of film scores.  A local jazz club has announced the engagement of the LALO SCHIFRIN Big Band for a gig a little later this year.

Does anybody know anything about the LALO SCHIFRIN Big Band?  Have you heard them play?  Can you offer a yea or nay recommendation?

Wow was it ever hot in the Pacific Northwest yesterday (and Friday too!)...Friday it was 102 degress and yesterday it was about the same! I had to get out of the house!!

Saturday morning my sister and I took my 2 1/2 year old grandniece Taylor to the carousel and she had a blast! Then I hied myself up to Vancouver and went swimming at my friend Terry's. We swam and swam and when we thought we couldn't swim any more we ate...and then drove to Sauvie Island and swam some more! And I used the sun screen this time...no burn!! LOL!

Today I must do things that I have been putting off...mowing, weeding, finishing the Cal Bolder interview (seems like I have been working on it for months!), and cleaning the house from top to bottom!

I am worn out just thinking about it.

I saw Lalo Schifrin's Big Band in '95 or '96 up in Montreal.  A phenomenally satisfying concert, with a distinct Afro-Cuban vibe to it.  He didn't disappoint either the jazz fans or the film score geeks in the audience.  There was a large-scale piece called "Gillespieana" which was simply amazing.

About twenty years ago, I had the opportunity to see his "Jazz Mass" (based on Roman Catholic texts) in concert.  It's a  wonderful piece of music...and it's too bad the CD doesn't capture how moving the piece is.

Here's a BIG, enthusiastic yea vote.

I'd love to see Mr. Schifrin in concert again...!

Troubles come in 3s!  Lasat week it was the television, then my back.  Today I'm treading water from a leaking air conditioner that seems to be in its death throes.

So,  I need today air conditioner advice from any knowing DRs.  The one I have replaced the original one in the apartment and it waqs paid for by the landlord.  Now, I'm just as  happy to purchase this new one myself, but I know nothing about size or anything else.  It does have to fit into the wall under the window, but I'm physically unable to remove the current inhabitant to measure the space.  Anyone have any good solutions or answers?

Thanks!

Mbarnum I’m so proud of you.  Isn’t it much nicer dealing with the heat WITHOUT a sunburn?

Thank you Danise.  I’m out of bed today and was up to walking Echo this morning, then scrubbing both kitty litter boxes (RLP I don’t know how you did that with only one arm).  Now I’m tired again, but relaxing while I catch up with everyone.  I owe lots of emails but I’m not up to that yet.

Tomovoz I’m still amazed it is difficult for you to find such popular teas.  I would think a local store were order them for you.  Have you tried ordering online?  I do it all the time and it is often less expensive.

Elmore I would make two calls, one to the landlord and the other to a store that sells air conditioners.  Sorry I can’t be more helpful than that.

I just transferred a load of wash to the dryer now I’m going to take a shower.  Didn’t you want to know that?

Just NOT what the doctor ordered:

The charming creatures descended on some plaStic trash bags left along side the roadway by the neighbor across the street.

The "locals" (squirrels, Jays, etc.) are hiding in the woods.

Central Pets (http://www.centralpets.com/pages/critterpages/birds/raptors/RPT3007.shtml) advises:

Quote
If a Turkey Vulture feels threatened, it will regurgitate in the direction of its perceived attacker, which has made them rather unpopular with some bird rescue workers. Some rescue workers who have worked closely with Turkey Vultures claim that that the birds can recognize individual humans and will form bonds with them. Some people with regular habits have reported a Turkey Vulture who would follow them each day on their walk! Enthusiasts believe that Turkey Vultures are quite intelligent and can learn very quickly; many can be taught simple games like tug-of-war and will bring toys to their human friends in the same manner a dog might.

A Field Guide (http://www.neotropicalbirds.org/FieldGuide/FG_TurkeyVulture.html) adds:

Quote
Its scientific name, Cathartes aura, means "cleanser" possibly because characteristic of a scavenger, it cleans up rotting carcasses by eating them. Their digestive tract can kill any virus or bacteria in its meals. The fact that its head is bald prevents it's feathers from getting messy while submerged in rotting flesh. They roost in trees tops at night, sometimes in groups as large as 70 - 100 Turkey Vultures.

Speaking of smell, the Turkey Vulture defecates (poops) on its feet as a cooling method.

Thank you for sharing!

JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED -  A BIT OF LEVITY

IRISH VIRGIN!

In a tiny village on the Irish coast lived an old lady, a virgin and very proud of it. Sensing that her final days were rapidly approaching, and desiring to make sure everything was in proper order when she died, she went to the town's undertaker (who also happened to be the local postal clerk) to make the proper "final" arrangements. As a last wish, she informed the undertaker that she wanted the following inscription
engraved on her tombstone:

"BORN A VIRGIN, LIVED AS A VIRGIN, DIED A VIRGIN"

Not long after, the old maid died peacefully in her sleep.

A few days after the funeral, as the undertaker/postal clerk went to prepare the tombstone that the lady had requested, it became quite apparent that the tombstone that she had selected was much too small for the wording that she had chosen.

He thought long and hard about how he could fulfill the old maid's final request, considering the very limited space available on the small piece of stone. For days, he agonized over the dilemma. But finally his experience as a postal worker allowed him to come up with what he thought was the appropriate solution to the problem.

The virgin's tombstone was finally completed and duly engraved, and it read as follows:

"RETURNED UNOPENED"

Now, now, Jay - you may know your Verdi from your Wagner, but you don't know your alphabets.

Jose said:

Does Armenia use a Cyrillic type alphabet?  The script is very fancy, and I just can't tell what it is.
Note - he said "cyrillic type".

Armenian uses its own very special alphabet (which they arguably claim to be the very first phonetic one).

Discover Armenia (http://www.armeniaemb.org/DiscoverArmenia/LanguageLiterature/) reports:

Quote
Armenian is a complex and beautiful language. Except for a transition into middle Armenian during the 10th-12th centuries and into a modern form in the 19th century, it has been continuously used for more than 1500 years as it was first created, borrowing traces of words and expressions from Hindu, Persian, Arabic, Greek and Latin along the way. In its current form in the Republic, it uses a lively and vibrant incorporation of words from Russian, French, English and other countries. It is a language alive. Armenian has its own unique alphabet, devised between 401-406 c.e. by Mesrop Mashtots (361-440 c.e.) under the patronage of King Vramshapuh and Catolicos Sahak Partev. Until that time, most written versions of Armenian were in Greek. During the turbulent years of the 4th century c.e., the new alphabet was treated as a divine gift from God, a weapon of intellect over the dark forces of fanaticism. The first sentence written in Armenian was "To know wisdom and gain instruction; to discern the words of understanding..." Armenians were quick to use the new alphabet, translating Greek, Roman, Persian, Arabic, Egyptian, even Chinese treatises into Armenian.

Here's a tapestry of said alphabet:

The egg cream is a New York tradition. Ironically, it doesn’t have any egg or cream in it. Even so, it’s still a soda fountain favorite. Put 3oz of chocolate syrup in a large glass. I agree with RLP, DR Elmore3003, just call the store and tell them to send a man out. He will take care of it all and you will be back to the perfect comfort of air conditioning (something that I, alas, do not have!).

Jane, I hope the hot pad and Big Valley make you feel better. Whenever I am home sick from work I always watch an episode of Perry Mason! It always makes me feel better! LOL!

I cleaned and scrubbed the kitchen...I cleaned and scrubbed the  bathroom...and I cleaned and scrubbed the bedroom. Now I am pooped. Still need to clean and scrub the living room and mow the lawn.

There was a crazy person across the street from my house for about an hour. He was acting bizarre and yelling at imaginary enemies! I called the police and they came and talked to him but evidently felt he was harmless and left him where he was. At one point he crossed the street and came onto my front lawn then went back across the street. I locked all of my doors!

He is gone now but it still makes me nervous. I like to have my doors open and all my windows open, but now everytime I hear a "bump" I get all suspicious and worry that he is still around the neighborhood.

It is a nice old quite neighborhood and we don't normally get much foot traffic here, but living downtown there are a lot of loonies wandering around the vicinity, and the State Mental Hospital is just down a few blocks and around the corner!

Time to end my frenzy of posting and eat some lunch and watch last nights episode of Big Brother!

PS: I did my housework to the music of a couple of wonderful CDs from DR Tomofoz! Some lively Finnish pop CDSs which I very much enjoyed..both groups on the two cds had just a bit of an ABBA flavor to them!

Had a wonderful time at the wedding yesterday.  The only downside at all was the ridiculous heat (about 95)... I think most everybody left with pink faces.  After helping clean-up after the reception, I spent the evening with some friends who were there, and it was all just too too.

Speaking of too too... this very evening I shall be supping with my very own cyberfather, TCB!

Good afternoon all!
Well I am at the reception for my uncles wedding, a rather casual affair held outside their house in Vermont.  And lo and behold, he had a computer, so I promptly got online, as I was craving my internet fix.  Fine times being had here in Vermont, despire some rather cold temps.  (Jed, you should be here!  You'd be niec and comfortable)
My uncle got married to his much younger bride, and he will spend the next two days with his son and my father, re-roofing his ex-wif'es house.  Go figure.  I will be in charge of keeping my cousin's children out from underfoot.

I hope DR Jed and our dear TCB have a wonderfully wonderful time at dinner this evening, and I look forward to hearing all about it.

On our agenda this evening is attendance at the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach.

I've been here, but watching TV and listening to Donald's radio show (last week's "2x2").  Right now I'm watching a show on the Discovery channel where they're building a submerged tunnel between Scotland and Norway.  They're also contemplating the feasibility of this kind of tunnel between New York (USA) and England!  It would be submerged, but not on the floor of the ocean.  They're also predicting that they have the technology (if not the $12 trillion) to make it fast enough that it would only take an hour between New York and England!  As incredible as it seems, and however plausible that it might be, I'll believe it when I see it.

Oh...oh....I forgot to mention something that may be of some interest here.

I saw HELL'S ANGELS on TCM a few days ago.  I had never seen it before, and I liked it.  In searching for a copy of the VHS with the restored 2-strip Technicolor sequences, I discovered it was OOP....and most copies on Amazon were selling for more than $50!  Yesterday a video turned up on EBAY....and I am still the top bidder at $16.01 - with a top bid of $16.55.

BUT I don't care if I am outbid....because on December 7, 2004, an official Universal DVD version will be released!!  Yes, HELL'S ANGELS with Miss Jean Harlow is coming to DVD!!!

My favorite part was the Zeppelin attack and its subsequent destruction...hand tinted...and eerily prescient of the destruction 7 years later of the Hindenburg.

Life lessons:  That's a hard one. I think when you're younger it's really easy to rhyme off rules to live by because you basically know very little of what life is truly like. (A generality, of course.)
I think that one of the major lessons life has taught me is to try and be good to people. The Golden Rule and all that.

And the most important thing my mother taught me is to never feel defeated, no matter how hopeless the situation seems. To always feel there is a way out and you will find it. (She was a Holocaust survivor, so she knew what she was talking about.) I've passed that one on to my daughter.

elmore if you ask the people in the apartment below you to look at the plug, they may be more than happy to do so.

Panni, good for your mother.  I had to learn that lesson on my own and I’m not sure I passed it on to my children.

Tomovoz, the special effects were very good and the story was enjoyable.  If you are an Asimov fan, don’t expect his book as the movie is loosely based on it.  It was a fun summer flick, nothing great.  If you don’t get fussy about the holes in the plot the movie will be more enjoyable.

Well, since we need posts, I might as well tell you some of the highlights from my trip.

The first day, we stopped at a gas station and I got a Cherry Coke and a Tootsie Roll Pop. (Is this exciting or what?) I have successfully answered the question "How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?"

After 197 licks, I first hit the top of the center. After 366, the entire top part was exposed. After 608, the whole Tootsie Roll center was exposed and all of the Tootsie Pop that was left was the part underneath the center. After 734, I realized that I wouldn't be able to get rid of all of the pop without spraining my tongue.

Isn't this fascinating?

Friday night a friend of mine and I saw CAROLINE, OR CHANGE and then yesterday another friend of mine and I went to Long Island to see a mutual friend in CATS. Bleh! The production was great...the show--not so much. It really loses a lot when you scale down the dancing, which they unfortunately had to do because of their lack of playing space. You see CATS for the dancing...not for the plot. There needed to be more dancing. :-\

And now I'm supping and thinking about going to the gym....

I have returned from a truly delightful time with our very own TCB.  For our resident foodies... we both dined on some lovely chicken parmagiana, his with penne, mine with spaghetti.  Very tasty, and more than either of us could finish.  Of course, that didn't stop us from stopping for ice cream afterwards, getting mammoth servings of sinfully rich dairy goodness.  I doubt either of us will eat again until Thursday.

It was a wonderful evening of merriment, mirth, laughter, but oddly lacking in legs.  I very much look forward to future meetings!

Getting back to my own question about "Extended Versions" of movies on DVD, there are two examples so far where I find the films were improved by the extentions.

The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers stand as very good examples of heightend storytelling through the additional detail.  The difference is that Jackson had planned ahead with the material, knowing that his storytelling would stand up the the longer films, but also understanding that the films would not play as well in the theater without some editing.

Another example may be heading to the stores on Tuesday: Hellboy.  Here again, more of the story was filmed, and it was edited down for the theatrical release.  What was edited out was apparently footage that had to do with the character relationships.  Whether or not the additional scenes help the film remains to be seen.

Good Evening!

It was a good day of rehearsing.  Lots of good detail work in the choreography department.

Once I got back to the apartment, I realized I wasn't feeling very well... and that I was very tired too.  Very tired.  So, I decided to head out for a little bit and take a walk just to get some air, and also just to wake myself up a little bit.  -I probably could have fallen asleep then and there, but then I probably would have ended up getting up around 4:00AM, so...  Well, while I was walking around, I realized I was actually hungry  - well, more like in need of food - the last time I had had anything substantial was around 11:00am - a bagel and cream cheese at rehearsal.  So... eight hours later...  I headed over to the Japanese place down the street and got some teriyaki chicken over udon noodles.  Just what I needed.  I'm feeling much better now.

*And I also ended up walking down to The House of Pies, and I picked up a slice of the Strawberry Cream Pie for later. :D

And speaking of later...

;)

Info about the show....of course pictures when I get them.  Thanks for asking TCB.

WELL....in 1992, I played the part of Axel in a production of Larry Shue's comedy THE NERD.  It is a very funny play, and if you attend ANY theatre at all anywhere, you have been exposed to it.

And now we are doing the show again...all these years later.  It was so very good the first time.  It was so funny and the cast so good.  AND I wish that I would just shut up and stop recommending shows that were good the first time....we should do shows that we didn't do well!!

ANYWAY....I auditioned and this time around I am playing Rick Steadman, the nerd of the title who comes and stays and stays...and STAYS.  Of course it has a twist ending.  I am having a good time, but the actor who did the part the first time was making his first appearance on our stage and it was great.  I was hoping we would get another someone like that.  Everyone in our audience knows me and knows my work....although this is a DIFFERENT kind of part than I usually play.  Whew...and it has been almost 4 years since my last "leading" part (read LOTS of lines to memorize) - but I shall do my best and shall report to those interested.

We are blocking on the outdoor stage right now and will move inside once NUNSENSE closes on August 21.  We open on September 9.

It's a good thing that the part of LA that DR Jose is staying in has a lot of hills, and steep ones at that.  With all that pie he's eating, walking to and from House of Pies at least provides him with the right amound of exercise.

I went to Cold Stone Creamery for the first time this evening.  Now granted, Washington has had unusually hot weather this week, but still, I could not believe how busy that place was tonight.  I had this cheescake ice cream mixed with strawberries, blueberries, and graham cracker crust; and Jed had, I believe, German chocolate cake ice cream mixed with all the items you would expect to find in a German chocolate cake.  Mine was excellent, but this was truly a case of my eyes being bigger than my stomach -- which means that my eyes would have to be HUGE!

So pleased to hear the father/son night went well. Of course now I expect private messages from both parties to find out the truth.

"Cold Stone Creamery" is now on my list  of "must visits" in 2005. Of course it is above The Grand Canyon. I know my priorities.

I have now officially paid for my fare to France (to visit François of course). Now to hopefully get a taxation refund to help out. (Please note use of split infinitive).

Camera!  Why didn't I think to bring a camera!

Same reason I didn't bring one... because, as we learned at Cold Stone Creamery, we, dear father, are two clueless fellas! :D

...well...that and I don't even have one...

I'm still digesting the PF Chang dinner. And I'm SO thirsty. what do they put in that stuff??
Just a brief post, then I must chat with the Dear Daughter. So the premiere costume consensus is a tube top borrowed from a black sailor. Have I got that right? Next question: Tiara or Mouse Ears?

I've found that P.F. Chang's food can be deceptively salty.  Water is always a good thing.

I got back from the show "Dancin' In the Streets," a revue of Motown songs and it was another successful performance.  The audience loved it!  Tonight was also a sing and dance along and everyone did.  I didn't watch the second act because 1) I'd already seen it twice, 2) I could hear it from the lobby, 3) I helped count the money from concessions (which is where I worked...I didn't have to seat people) and 4) the house manager and I chatted.  He's a great guy.  He went on the same trip that I was on the only time that I went to New York.
