Well, you've read the notes, you've noticed that the notes were vampy, trampy, and campy, not necessarily in that order, and now it is time for you to post until the vampy, trampy, and campy cows come home.

I'm not ready for a vacation yet.  It's only been a year since we moved to the East Coast, and everything here is still very new to me.  I don't need to "get away from it all."

Taking a few days to explore around, on the other hand, would be fun.  I don't know if that counts as "vacation," but...

But I'd like to explore Boston.  And Baltimore.  Much as it throws der Brucer every time I mention it, I haven't been to either city.  (He keeps forgetting that I wasn't with him the last time he was in Bal'mer.)  And I don't think I'll ever get enough of Washington D. C.

That should do for starters.

I would like to go to England someday. While I was there I would like to go to Ireland to Churchtown. Oliver Reed is buried there. I would visit him and then go to his favorite pub and have an ale in his memory.
I have been living my dream vacation for about four years now. I travel to Hollywood, California twice a year and meet lots of celebrities like our vey own bk!

I'm slowly returning to the e-world (on Friday I was struck down by a computer virus). Internet is back, but not e-mail. I've begun reloading programs and catching up on posts, but right now all I have to say is, Gee, but it's good to be here (a Happy Hunting reference). And Oceania

Right now, I'd like to be anywhere other than where I am-- which is more psychological and metaphysical than a desire to be someplace in particular.

Two weeks in New York (to see alll my friends and shows) or two weeks in Chicago (to see all my friends and maybe some shows) or two weeks in Los Angeles (to see all my friends and maybe a show)  or two weeks in San Francisco-- just because.

I have been lucky enough to take some dream vacations but there are still many places I would like to go or re-visit.

I would love to spend a month in Ireland (including time in Northern Ireland), and perhaps look up relatives before I go so I can meet them when we arrive, a month on the island of England with sojourns to Wales and Scotland, a month in France with time spent in one of my favorite places in the world, Honfleur.

I would also love to take a cruise around the world thus taking away the problem of jet lag. Since it's a dream vacation, it would be a large ship so if we run into storms while at sea we wouldn't have to worry about capsizing (and Anthony would be more comfortable since he doesn't like rides on boats). We would go to Alaska and Australia and, keeping with the water theme, we would take a trip on the fjords.

Rather rambling but I think it works for now.

P.S. Hi, Dan, glad you're back.

Welcome to new DR Lachic!
Welcome back to DR Dan-In-Toronto!
And just plain ol' Good Mornin' to everyone else!

I have a number of dream vacays:

A London theatre excursion, especially during a brilliant season with top plays and stars.

Rome (but only if I'm accompanied by a romantic attachment.)

Vienna (before it sinks)

A week long trip to one of those exclusive spas where one is pampered to death.

Now that I read DtM's choice

"A week long trip to one of those exclusive spas where one is pampered to death"

I think I would like to add that to my list.

After the events of the past five months, my idea of a dream vacation is a month at the Mayo Clinic!

DRDIT, sorry about the virus.  I hope you're back to us regularly now.

DRLachic, welcome to the group!

Actually, my idea of a dream vacation would be what in 18th & 19th Century England and the USA was known as "The Grand Tour" to complete my education.  On a more gothic note, I'd love to stay in a villa on Lake Geneva and ponder Polidori, Byron, and the Shelleys thinking up horror stories and smoking opium.

I'd like to take a cruise ship across the Atlantic and visit London, Paris, Amsterdam.  Whilst on the continent, I'd do the Big Three of Italian cities, Rome, Florence and Venice.

Stateside, I would love to spend a week in Charleston, SC.
I'd also like to see Denver.

Sorry west coasters, I can't think of  thing I'd want to see other than the city of San Franciso.  (I was even invited to be in LA next week, and turned down that offer).

New Zealand, Tasmania and Australia - gee, how much time would that take?

I'm always up for a weekend getaway in NYC, whether seeing Broadway shows or visiting the cabarets.

Welcome DR Lachic.

Welcome back, DR DiT.

Dream Vacations come in two varieties for me: Sightseeing/educational, and just plain ol' relaxing.  For the Sightseeing/educational one, a tour of Europe, including (but not limited to) Venice, London, Amsterdam and Florence.

For the relaxing vacation, a world cruise (verandah stateroom; heavy on the beaches).  With scads of money to spend on libations and in the casino.

Welcome back DiT, I can certainly sympathize with you on the computer problems.
[/b]

td, I am crushed that you have no desire to visit us on the Left Coast.  I believe we took a vote recently, and I am sure you were awarded honorary Northwest membership…… or was that Martin Mull?

Dream Vacation?  I have been pretty fortunate during my lifetime to do a great deal of traveling, and to see a lot of wonderful countries.  I suppose my dream vacation, now, would be a long leisurely cruise through the South Pacific stopping in Tahiti, Bora Bora, Java, and maybe even a quick sail past Krakatoa ( for Sal Mineo and Diane Baker's sake), even though it is really west of Java, not East.  Final stop on the cruise would be Australia to visit some dear friends.

Of course, a couple of weeks in New York would be okay, too.

I just received a gift copy of this book BROADWAY MUSICALS by my friends Ken Bloom and Frank Vlastnik, and I recommend it highly.  The photos are amazing, the choices are interesting, and some of the text is very sassy.  It will make a lovely holiday gift for anyone but me since I already have it; but for those of you who want to know if I need anything particular for the holidays, I look good in anything expensive.

But I'd like to explore Boston.  And Baltimore.  Much as it throws der Brucer every time I mention it, I haven't been to either city.

First we do Naples (Capri, Pompeii and Paestum - and Mangiano!), then we do Venice (because it's VENICE), then we do Crete (Hiraklion and Minos' Palace in Knossus)  and end up on Malta (Paintings, Catacombs, Statuary, and just plain atmosphere).

Then we can do B'more.

If we had more time I'd add Copenhagen (Tivoli Gardens), St. Petersburg (Hermitage), and Budapest (to see what Pannis been up to). A return to Berlin, now the wall is down, might be instructive.

der Brucer

Sea Story: my visit to Venice started on a dreary evening when our ship docked on a pier a short distance out of town. Even though it was a rainy weeknight in off-season November, I decided to hoof it into town. I trudged along the narrow walkway until I entered St Mark's square. There was a fine rain falling and the autumn clouds partially covered the full moon - the date dial on my Timex when scrolling dizzily backward. There were these large Romanesque buildings fronted by dark colonnades  in which I am certain lurked caped, doublet-clad courtiers with buckled swords awaiting who knows what assignations.

Yes, Snoopy, it was a dark and dreary night - but such atmosphere!

Thanks for the tip, DR Elmore.  I've been reading about this book for some time now and I was wondering if it was worth it or not.  I'm adding it to my Christmas list for Santa to git me.

And here's something I recommend:  the other week I picked up  A Must See!: Brilliant Broadway Artwork  (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0811842177/qid=1100187757/sr=2-1/ref=pd_ka_b_2_1/002-7351891-8020058) by Steven Suskin.  When I read about this one, I thought it was just another Broadway poster book with the same old posters and artwork that's been printed in all the other coffee table books.  But this book has many, many pieces that I have never seen before and it's a lot of fun just to page through.

Then go to Washington DC and see all the historic sites and museums.

And then go on a tour of the Space Center in Florida.  And then come home to a NEW house!

Yep, dream vacation for me would also be London. I've said this here before, but I only want to do London with a partner, and since I'm currently partner-less, well, that makes it a little difficult.

Second in line is Hawaii. I think I'd like one of the less touristy islands, but just to get there would be good enough. Again, I think I wouldn't want to go without some friends in tow. I don't really enjoy traveling alone though I have done it, of course.

Good morning!  Welcome to lachic!  Who is lachic - have I met you yet or am I meeting you today?  If so, I know who you are.  To explain: We have a lurker who loves our site but has never posted, who lives in far off Japan, and he is in LA and we'll be meeting for a brief drink sometime today.

I was awakened this morning by a call from my publisher.  Apparently my going ballistic had the desired effect: After I got off the phone with him, they managed to get the head of the printing company on the phone at home - they told him the entire story and he assured them everything would be sorted out this morning.  This morning he called them back to say he was personally walking the book through today and that I would have test book tomorrow morning, and that my order would indeed be here on Monday.

Actually, the Nowegian Cruise Lines' Norwegian Star (and a sister ship, which I can't recall at this time) feature two Garden Villas each.:

Garden Villa
Spectacular 5,750 sq ft Garden Villa complete with living room, dining room and three separate bedrooms each with king- or queen-size bed, private luxury bath and CD/DVD library. Two bedrooms also feature a full bath with whirlpool tub and separate shower. Each Villa features a private garden with hot tub, outdoor dining area and terrace. Butler service and concierge available.

While a private garden may not satisfy your beach needs, there wouldn't be any sand to get in your private hot tub, either.

And while this should not be taken as any sort of endorsement (or non-endorsement) of NCL, don't forget that I do book cruises in my spare time.

Besides, the semi-colon indicated two inter-related, yet different, trains of thought.

I’m also hoping our Writer’s Block website will be up and running right on schedule, no later than this coming Monday. At that point, you can place your orders immediately and books and CDs will ship within a day or two after that. So, get ready, you dear, dear people out there in the dark – orders start on Monday.

Must I sign a blood oath to read the book within 30 days?

Must I sign a non-disclosure agreement should I find any typos?

Must I certify that I will post no "spoilers".

Will the author threaten me with frequent lashes with wet noodles and other sundried foodsuffs if I fail to live up to the expectaions of "loyal reader"?

Will I be permitted to read this book before I complete the Kritzer trilogy?

I changed planes once in Dallas, but that's the only time I've been to Texas. And we should note that one of BK's guilty pleasures is Can Hieronymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness?  I'm sure he and I aren't the only ones who have the ST album in vinyl.

You might also want to visit Lauren Merkin Handbags (http://www.laurenmerkin.com/).  As Lady Bracknell would say, "In a haaaandbag?"

We should also not forget President Merkin Muffley in Dr. Strangelove.

Those wishing to give their word processing a bit of pizzaz might try this font:

Merkin (http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/elemeno/merkin/).

If you encouter the Madonna parody "Like a Merkin" (http://www.buggrit.com/merkin.html), you should be aware that Merkin has become Internet Lingo for "American" of late, as in "My fellow Merkins".

If you check the imdb, you may notice that Robby Merkin is listed alongside Alan Menken as composer for The Little Mermaid.  He also composed for Sesame Street (!)

But since Google gives over 54,000 listings for the word, I think I'd better get those calculus tests graded before class.

And your answers:

If, like Kritzer Time, you choose not to read the book for whatever reasons, then that's what you choose.  I would find it peculiar, just as I have found it peculiar with KT, but that's just me and has nothing to do with you.

I hope you don't find any typos, but if you do, remember that many books have them - it happens, and that includes classics like James Agee's A Death in the Family. Steinbeck's East of Eden, all the J.K. Rowling books and many others.

Since this is a mystery, posting spoilers is probably not a good idea, although, as in the case of the Kritzer books, there are things in those books that one shouldn't know going in and people have been very careful here and in their amazon reviews not to "spoil" those surprises and twists.  If you want to talk about something that's a spoiler, make certain that the word SPOILER appears prominently in your post so that people who haven't read it can quickly skip the post without seeing the spoiler.

I don't think I've threatened you with wet lashes, but I do admit to being confounded, despite the explanation you finally gave, as to your not reading Kritzer Time (others have also been confounded, I must tell you).  But, maybe I'll try the wet lashes treatment.

If you wish to read this book before Kritzer Time that is fine by me.

No Musso and Frank coupon, I'm afraid, as much as I'd LOVE to include one.  But there is that CD we've done.

Unlike the Kritzer books, which you will never see remaindered, this book could eventually end up in remainder stores because it's being published in a slightly different manner.  However, if you buy a copy with a torn cover, Grant Geissman might strangle you with a guitar string.

If I may return to the semi-hemi-demi-sesqui anti-pentultimate topic of discussion.

I pretty much enjoyed The Broadway Musical in the broadcast version, despite all that was left out--is Elton John really that much more important to musical theatre than Ahrens & Flaherty, say?--and the lack of p.o.v.

However, I do wonder how you can talk about A Chorus Line for fifteen minutes and not once even mention Ed Kleban, let alone Nicholas Dante and James Kirkwood.  Actually, some note on the BMI and Disney/ASCAP workshops, among others, might have been appropriate in assessing the current state of the musical rather than just an emphasis on the mega-blockbusters.

Actually, I think A Chorus Line was really ill-served, in that they did not actually explain the genesis of the show, the tapes, and the fact that the actual dancers' personal stories ended up on stage.  By the way, does anyone know what ever happened to the original tapes?  Are they in the Library of Congress or somewhere?

Or soon to be issued on the CD A Chorus Line:  The Tapes produced of course by our very own BK.

BK, I'm dismayed.  Not only are you not going to London (which, of course, I already knew), but the change in your signing schedule means we'll miss your Bookfellows signing and you'll miss our Christmas bash when we return from London, which will be that weekend you're in New york!  Alas, Alack!

LONDON is still my dream destination.   I would actually like to see more of England, but I am constantly booking theatre when I get there.

We usually see 10-12 shows when there. I have seen over 100 shows in London and am hoping to get to two hundred before I can no longer either physically or financially afford to go. Theatre tickets are something I won't stint on!  Always good seats.  The Lovely Wife usually likes to sit in the Dress Circle so she can see the blocking patterns.  But in the Olivier we always sit on the floor.  Best bets:  The National always has wonderful stuff playing, the price is probably the best, and you will always see impeccably mounted shows.  I've never been disappointed in anything I've seen there.  All three houses are interesting and their bookshop is wonderful.  Also the book market under the nearby Waterloo Bridge is swell.

Other houses:  The Haymarket in the West End is my favourite theatre and I think one of the most beautiful.  This is where Oscar Wilde's Importance of Being Earnest and Ideal Husband played.  And where John Barrymore did his famous Hamlet.  I also like the Donmar Warehouse in the Seven Dials/Neal's Yard area which Sam Mendes ran for many years.  They have done several interesting revivials of Sondheim.  I also like the Young Vic with its malleable, amorphous stage.  The one time I was in the Almeida, it was quite interesting. I'm quite fond of the Gielgud Theatre in Shaftsbury Avenue's famed theatre row, simply because of all Gielgud memorabilia. The worst theatre for viewing, despite its great history and legacy, is the Old Vic which due to its rectangular nature has very bad site lines in the dress circle.  I've never seen anything at the Royal Court in Sloane Square in Chelsea and would like to rectify that this time.

I'm something of a theatre archeologist...so I like to see the rare, the obscure, the classic.  Also typically British theatre.  I eschew big Lloyd-Webber/Cameron Macintosh musical and Broadway transfers, for the most part.  But will go see interesting companies do interesting revivals of musicals.

This time on agenda are a revival of BECKET, CLOACA (which didn't get great reviews but is Kevin Spacey's initial offering as head of the Old Vic), THE EARTHLY PARADISE, a play about William Morris, Dante Rosetti and the affair Rosetti had with Morris' wife), HIS DARK MATERIALS, PARTS I & II at the National,  THE HISTORY BOYS by Alan Bennett,  a revival of JOURNEY'S END, FESTEN, FORTY WINKS by Ken Elyot which will introduce me to the Royal Court, GRAND HOTEL at the Donmar, SWEENEY TODD, in a small production at a theatre right behind our apartment, OLD MASTERS with Peter Bowles, Edward Fox, and one of my favourite actresses there, Sally Dexter.  That's a dozen right there.  I have about 23 possibilities on my list.  I'm undecided about whether I want to see WOMAN IN WHITE...just to say I have or THE PRODUCERS which just opened and may be impossible to get into anyway.

I almost never book ahead, simply because I don't like to get locked into a schedule.  I usually buy the day of or a few days ahead and that's usually worked out.  I think there have only been about two or three things I couldn't ever get tickets for.

We rent a flat right in the heart of the West End, around the corner from Leicester Sq., two blocks from Covent Garden, just down the street from Seven Dials, a couple blocks from Shaftsbury Ave, two from Trafalgar, a couple from Picadilly. Right behind Charing Cross and my bookstores.  We can walk everywhere and do...even as far as the  Portobello Road Antiques Market and the Tower Bridge (3 miles).  The Southbank and the National is maybe fifteen minutes away over the Waterloo Bridge which has the best views of London...one way is St. Paul's; the other Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, and the Spires of Westminster.  All these landmarks are a hop-skip from where we stay.  Last year we couldn't get the usual flat and stayed in one that was actually cheaper and we like more.  Off Bow Street in Covent Garden behind the Opera House.  Unfortunately, the flat is no longer available.

We have been there enough now that we don't go as tourists, but just go and live.  A Tesco market is right around the corner.  We take most of our meals in...even though the famed show-biz restaurant, The Ivy, is literally outside our flat's back door. Sometimes we'll eat after the theatre at Joe Allen's or Orso's.

The Lovely Wife likes to feed the ducks and squirrels in St. James Park (the prettiest of London's parks), dabble in Covent Garden, visit churches.  I do book runs around town from the West End to the South Bank and through Bloomsbury.  I also visit BK's and my favourite dealer Nigel Williams in Cecil Court where there are several other interesting book dealers and theatre memorabilia shops.

A typical day is we both go our seperate ways in the morning. She to the ducks or Covent; me to get the day's theatre tix and my own perambulations. I like to explore parts of London I don't really know.  Last time it was Lincoln fields and the Inns of Court.  How often do you see a shop that sells wigs for barristers in court?

We usually meet up around noonish for lunch and to read the three or four papers I've brought home.  We go out again and then rendezvous once more around four or five.  Go down for a little nap, eat, and push off to the theatre.

Occasionally we do a joint project to go see a sight...a museum or church...we've never seen or just a mutual ramble down one of the main thoroughfares, through one of the great parks, or just shop at one of the famed Markets.  We love taking scenic detours back from the theatre...like along the South Bank when the city is all lit up.

London is a city I feel safe in almost any time of the day or night.  One has had to get a little more wary over the years, especially on a Saturday night when the soccers yobs are getting pissed and puking in the street.  But for the most part, I never felt personally threatened...and we've been there when murders occurred nearby and when the IRA was blowing up stuff...notably a bus in Aldwych.  I also walked through the aftermath of the May Day riots (only discovering they were happening minutes before) in Whitehall and had to be diverted out of Traflagar by riot gear police.

One thing I love is having tons of newspapers to read and the British papers are always entertaining.  On the weekends, I must buy 6 or 7 and we have a glut of magazines and inserts that keep us going all through the following week.

I would like to get out of London and see sights like Stonehenge and some castles and we're going to try this time, but it's tough to live the greatest city on earth.  We have managed day trips to places like Canterbury and a friend drove us up through Yorkshire, Whitby and the north of England once.  Fascinating!
I'd also liked to get a gander at Scotland and Ireland one of these days.

Aside from that, one thing I've always wanted to do is take one of those riverboat cruises along the Mississippi or the Ohio.  I think there is also one that goes through Oregon and Washington.  That sort of lesiurely travel, being able to watch the world go by, would be great fun, I think.

My Absolute Dream Vacation ("absolute dream" because it could never really happen) would be to see Theater Set Around the World In the Native Languages!  Starting with Sondheim, I'd go to:

New York to see Company
London to see Sweeney Todd
Sweden to see A Little Night Music (in Swedish)
Italy to see Passion (in Italian) and Do I Here a Waltz (in English and Italian, of course)
Rome to see A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (in...whatever language they spoke back then)
and for the final Sondheim portion of the trip, Japan to see Pacific Overtures (in Japanese)

Then, I'd branch off into other shows set around the world:
Australia for The Boy From Oz
Paris for The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Les Miz and The Phantom of the Opera (in French),
Berlin for Cabaret and Grand Hotel (in German)
South Africa for Sarafina
Russia for Fiddler on the Roof (in Russian...I have the Israeli cast recording in Yiddish)
and Argentina for Evita (like that would ever happen!  I do have the Madrid cast recording in Spanish, though)

THAT would be my Dream Vacation!  (To make this a reality, I could very easily accept sponsorship and call it my Absolut Dream Vacation! ;D Yea, that's the ticket!!)

London is - after all - London.

The only time I was there - we saw LETTICE AND LOVAGE which ws okay....but there was a musical version of METROPOLIS playing as well.  I voted for it, but was outvoted.  Did anyone see it?  I don't think it ever made it stateside!

Did any DR check out the BEYOND THE SEA link?  Opinions?  Is MR BK really producing A CHORUS LINE cd?

I've only been to London once.  It was a trip that my sister won.  The theatre was fun.  One thing I had a big problem with was the time difference.  My body is so completely freaked by the change.  I really had problems eating before evening.  Luckily I don't have those same problems when i go to the West Coast.

Okay, I've just checked, and indeed DR LMore's arrangement of "New Words" on Unsung Musicals preceded by one year Glenn Mehrbach's for Andrea Marcovicci.

I just listened to both of those, plus The Sexiest Man Alive (Brent Barrett--I want him to read this, if he's googling his name) on The Maury Yeston Songbook.

Of the two first arrangements, I like Larry's best, I do.  But of the three versions of the song, I think Brent carries it better--he is singing to the child rather than the audience.  And the song is so delicate that piano alone really seems most appropriate.

I was shocked, however, to discover after repeated listenings that Maury rhymes "around us" with "astounds us".  For shame!  Lehman Engel is rolling in his grave.

Do any DRs watch "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" on Sunday nights? Well, I am proud and excited to say that my nephew John will is at this very moment working on an upcoming episode! John works for Centex Homes and he was sent up to Seattle to film and episode in which they are building a home for a widow and her 3 children. I don't know if John will get much, if any, time on camera, but we told him to be sure to take his shirt off in order to have the best chance of appearing! LOL! That is if Ty Pennington does not get jealous of having another good looking guy on the show!

Anyway, look for my handsome nephew John in an upcoming episode!!

Pogue, I got confused.  Here's the deal: The Bookfellows signing was moved up to the 4th of December.  So, it appears that you can't come to that one.  Then I go to NY, but I'm back on the morning of the 8th.  The Mystery Bookshop in Westwood signing is on the 11th, which hopefully you can attend, and then I will indeed be able to attend your bash.

Okay, techno-hainsies:  I need step-by-step easy instructions to load music from a CD onto my computer.  I have never done this before.  I'd like to save the music as some kind of file, I guess, that I can then send to someone so they can load it onto a site.  I hope I'm being clear.  So, the only thing I know how to do is put the CD in the tray.  From there I'm lost.  It has to be really spelled out for me in the simplest and clearest fashion (capri pants and a white v-neck sweater).

A professional company here in town mounted METROPOLIS five or six summers ago for a summer theater production. I found it abysmal. I'm sure the London version was spectacular with lots of effects and machinery. On the tightbudget the group had here, there was nothing spectacular visually, so all that was left was the tedious book and, to my ears, an unmelodic score.

Hmmm...I never used Windows Media Player to rip CDs because it was only able to produce low quality wav files.  But version 10 seems to be a winner.  I'm just now trying it out and I'm finding that I can rip to mp3 files (my usual preference) at 192 Kbps, which is excellent.

Now I'm sorry that I purchased MusicMatch this past weekend...

Thanks for the additional METROPOLIS info DRMATTH.

DtM - I was just reading those instructions as well.  I have a program that burns CD's, but I have never tried to send a file as MR BK is doing.  Two different animals.  WFO is probably correct that only Media Player 10 has this option.  I will let you know how CRATCHIT goes....the cast has some of my favorite locals in it.  Worked with most of them before on/offstage in various productions and had a great time.

However I don't think this particular show will give me the opportunity to stage a Disco Nativity - a routine that got me damned straight to hell by one audience member - but it should be fun.  I anxiously await the music!

I am still trying to figure out LP's to CD's - DRGEORGE is the expert on this, I think.

I actually am quite fond of the London Recording of METROPOLIS.  There's Judy Kuhn, ruining her voice; there's Graham Bickley for the ladies, there's Brian Blessed for the RSC fans and for the Rocky Horror people, there is Dr. Scott himself:  Jonathan Adams.
It's a pulsating medium rock pop score, to be sure, with one or two outstanding songs in amongst the drek.

DRJR, Liechtenstein is real and Lichtenburg is fictional (as the opening of the show says, the play is laid in two mythical countries. One is called Lichtenburg, the other...the United States - or something to that effect).

There is a real city called Lichtenburg just outside of Johannesburg in South Africa.

I have had the good fortune to travel to many of my dream vacations-heck, I’m living in one of them.

I would like to return to Italy, France, England, Germany, Ireland and Scotland, mostly to return to places I loved and visit the places I missed the first time.

There are still many areas of the US I haven’t seen such as Montana or New Mexico.  I hope one day to return to Sedona and tour through the Rockies again.

I have a dream to travel to Australia and New Zealand.  I hear there is a wonderful cruise to these places.

Most of all I want to travel to England and visit the growing number of my cousins we have found on the internet.  My latest cousin is named Jane so I must meet her.

I took a short trip into town and the park today.  Wisely I left my camera at home.  I think I have more than enough photos.

Just finished two more pages and am done for the day.  I'm in the big penultimate scene, which I'm having fun doing.  Then all there is after that is a little tag and the end credits (which I'm writing - not the credits themselves, but their backplate).  So, hopefully I'll be right on sched and I'll be finished by Monday.

I am still trying to figure out LP's to CD's - DRGEORGE is the expert on this, I think.

Well, I wouldn't call myself an expert. ::) My sister's boyfriend (Larry...not to be confused with D.R. Elmore) taught me everything that I know about making CDs.  I've figured out a few things, but only because Larry installed the programs on my computer.  But if someone has questions, I could try to answer some...of course, I make no guarantees!

DRs, thanks for the warm welcome back - I was going through withdrawal when my computer was down.

DRs Jane and Laura, the photos are stunning. They brighten the day. Please keep them coming.

And DR Jane, I hope tonight is an easy one for you and Bogie.

DR Elmore, I too love Darling of the Day. Congrats on the gig. I missed the show when it tried out in Toronto. Maybe I'll catch it in Chicago.

Just heard from our Japanese lurker, whose plane was delayed.  So, we'll meet tomorrow at noon at the Beverly Hilton hotel.  But, here's the amusing thing - the person named Hisako, that I'd for some reason just presumed was a he is a she.  Isn't that funny?

Yay, DRelmore!  Guess the phone rang, huh?

My #1 dream vacation right now is to go to Paris with my husband in 2006 to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.

Ginny, it is true what they say about Paris.  It is a very romantic city.

DiT thank you for your good wishes.  One way or another I’m sleeping tonight, even if I need a little assistance.

Bruce that is funny.  Have fun and tell her to post when she returns.  It will be fun having someone from Japan posting.  I would like to hear what her favorite foods are.

I didn’t know that photo posted.  I lost my connection and haven’t been back until now.

I'm back! And right on topic, I've had a dream vacation. But my brain is fried. I've been up for over 24 hours. Set out on my travels at 4 AM Budapest time -- which is 7 PM yesterday LA time. (Didn't bother going to bed last night.) Flew to Amsterdam - a two hour flight. Made my way through their huge airport to my transfer gate. Went through an hour's worth of lines and security there. Then flew around 13 hours to LA.
Have picked up the wonderdog from the kennel and started going through 2 weeks worth of mail. And those are just the highlights. My day begins early tomorrow, so perhaps I should get some REST.

Panni, where do you board your dog?  Do you like it?  Is it expensive?  Are they attentive and cuddling?  Do they take cats?

Welcome back Panni.  If it makes you feel better your return trip from Budapest was much easier than ours from Bratislava.  But then we did not have to move after our return.

I’m glad you have returned safely.  Get some sleep and good vibes on your move.

I bet Abie is one happy boy.  :D

Hello, new DR Lachic!

When you get a chance, please tell us about yourself!

I'm gonna wussburger tonight, without even reading all of the posts.  I shouldn't feel so tired, not after today, but I guess my need for sleep has finally caught up with me.

Today, we had the driveway paved.  Since we moved in, we've been coping with a steep drive paved with very loose and very large gravel.  I'd call 1" square pieces of gravel large.  Every time any large vehicle tried to get back up our driveway, they'd get stuck.

Today, a fellow knocked on our door.  He'd been putting speedbumps in the parking lots along the highway malls, and since they were getting finished by noon he was trying to find some local business to make a quick profit.  Net result, he was able to get our driveway paved with fresh asphalt, and a very good job done too, while der B was able to save something like a G for the quick job.  Not a bad tradeoff, especially since the work done was very very very (that's a threefer) good.

Der B took Fletcher out while the workers were here, and Fletcher took a hankering to one of the workers, a Cubano negro who was at first startled by this very large dog sniffing at him.  Pretty soon, though, he realized that Fletcher was being friendly, and they were playing on the grass along the street together.  Any other dog would have been bothered by the noise of the machinery, but Fletcher, being deaf, never paid it any attention.

Meanwhile, it looks like Zeus has decided he is part of our family now.  We never had any say in the discussion, he's just nuzzled his way in and made himself one of us.  The only problem this makes is fostering another dog or more further down the line.  We can't adopt every dog that comes our way.

Well, NUNCRACKERS is, as of tonight's rehearsal, completely blocked and choreographed. Now, as soon as they get me the toe shoes (yep, that's not a typo), I can start dancing my part of "The Nutcracker" on pointe.

And a happy Veteran's Day to all of you, too!

DW Joy reports that Christmas Dreams is a big hit with audiences there in the middle of the U.S.  Opening night was attended by more people than at the two largest Broadway shows combined (!)  Not saying it's at the same quality level, but noting the irony: We live on Broadway, and she travels away to a place to far for me to visit to play for twice as many people...

Might I just ask where in tarnation IS everyone?  The WUSSBURGERS have overtaken the site.

Just finished watching (at long last) Broadway: The Golden Age (do we think that Broadway: The American Musical was trying just a wee bit too hard to tie itself to this other film? - we do).  I'll have lots to say about it.

Unbelievable.  Maybe we should just close up the site from ten till six in the morning.  Well, poo on all the WUSSBURGERS.  No more late-night denizens around these here parts I guess.  It was fun while it lasted, though, those giddy late-night soirees here at haineshisway.com

(he is the blond guy in the dark blue t-shirt)

Good looks must run in the family!

Been fortunate in my years of work to be able to save and travel a lot.  Next planned trip is to see the Hainsies of the NW.
Always wanted to go to Egypt but don't think that will ever happen now. No longer wish to see great cities - just wanted soak up the countryside like the recent trip to France. (Still love London though!)

Caught up with few time poster "BEEKAY" this week. Lovely guy.  Timing is difficult for him - no-one here when he is available to post and he does like a dialogue. We retired folk don't have such worries.
