Now that you've read the notes (and I do mean you), I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the topic o' the day.  I love waking up in the morning and seeing a plethora of posts - it's like waking up with a smile.

First Post!  Score!

Anyway, in my last post of yesterday (at about 11:05 p.m., Monday), I answered today's topic!  I really like "Reno 911."  It's a pseudo-mock-documentary sitcom about the stupidest bunch of police people in Reno.  Talk about incompetent!  But, if you like that kind of humor (I don’t usually, but somehow it grabbed me and wouldn’t let go), you’ll like this show.  I also like the improvisational aspect of it.  “Life With Bonnie” is the same way... improvised…and I’ve always liked Bonnie Hunt.  And she can really sing! If she has the range, I think that she’d be a swell Sally Durant Plumber in Sondheim & Goldman’s Follies.

We've been having so much fun sharing photos, that I took some last night - some of my art collection and a few other things.  So, here's thing one - this is an original Li'l Abner panel drawn by Mr. Al Capp himself and published as a daily in the mid-forties.  I've had three or four original Abner panels but this one has it all - Abner, the best Daisy Mae image ever, and the Sadie Hawkins day race.  If we have lots and lots of posts, I'll share more pix as the day goes on.

Lovely chat last night.  ;D

I don't find a LOT to like in the television that I watch.  I don't like a lot of new shows which may have new people in them, but have the same horrible writing!  I think it used to be that  terrible shows like Suddenly Susan or Just Shoot Me or Caroline in the City were exceptions - now all the shows are terrible just like them!   :P

That said - I agree with George that Reno 911! is very funny with good work by a talented cast.  I also like MadTV although it isn't new.  :D

It's strange that CBS is touting its 75th Anniversary with clips from shows like The Jeffersons and The Carol Burnett Show since CBS was built on the backs of shows like I Love Lucy and The Beverly Hillbillies - cultural to the extreme they weren't.  They did have Ed Sullivan and Playhouse 90 (I think) and The Twilight Zone.  I hope ALL these shows get their due on the special!   ;)

Does anyone know exactly how the tv in that picture worked?

It's a coffee table...it's a television....it's two pieces of furniture in one!

Good Morning all!  I'm getting ready for work so I don't have much time.

One of my all time favorite TV shows was/is "Babylon 5".  I'll go in to  why when I get home tonight.

Have a happy and safe day!

Favorite new TV Shows?
There are none.

However favorite older shows: Law and Order, Will and Grace (most of the time)

Classics: The Prisoner, Bewitched, Are You Being Served, Mission Imposible  (seasons 1 thru 5), Laverne and Shirley (Especially when there is Slapstick)

I have never seen the new TV series The Handler. but the premise sounds very much like Mission Impossible

I tried to add more then one image at time. I guess we can't do that. I will try to post some more during the day and will add an image from my favorite shows to each of them.

Hi Boys and Girls!
I'm not a TV snob, because I used to watch a lot of it, bit i haven't watched much in the last few years.  I think Tom Welling is a doll, but I don't watch "Smallville."  Seeing him in the bathtub on "Judging Amy" a couple of years ago stuck in my brain enough that I can skip his current series.  So I haven't watched much TV regularly.  I like "Judging Amy," and there's always some version (new or in reruns on 50 different channels) of "Law and Order," but I only see them occasionally.  If I really like a show, it's a pretty safe bet it will be cancelled, so i don't even bother with the new shows.

I, like our esteemed leader BK, rarely watch television. I watch The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Sex in the City and not much else. I may turn the television on and surf but I rarely find anything that entices me to stay. I have tried some of the new shows this season and find them to be, if not outright awful, then just middling to bad. Certainly not Must See. Shows that I used to watch and enjoy have, IMHO, fallen far down the mark as well. I think Friends used to be funny. Now, in spite of the critics drumb beating about it having a resurgence, I think it has lost any charm it had and long overstayed its welcome. There are arguments on both sides but I think Will and Grace is, again, IMHO, embarrasing most of the time. The writing is wretched, the plot lines are unbelievable and the characters are nothing more than caricatures. I won't go into a long discourse about it, suffice it to say, I don't like it anymore. I also don't like It's All Relative, in spite of some excellent performers (John Benjamin Hickey, Christopher Siebert and Harriet Harrison). I don't like Whoopi and I don't like Happy Family (sorry Christine Baranski, I love you). And don't get me started on reality TV. I will agree with George, that the little I've seen of Life with Bonnie, especially the scenes on the set of her faux TV show are well done.

For the most part, give me the live theatre and the VCR for old movies and I'm happy. I'm such a curmudgeon. Oh, well. I'm just turning into my father  :o

Don't mean to inject a note of negativity into our happy proceedings, especially so early in the posting day but, you asked    ;)

I will end on a bright note. Even though I left early, the chat last night was wonderful. As many have said, it was a zooming kind of night. You had to read and type fast (thank goodness for 10th grade summer school typing class in 1969). If you get a chance, drop in, the water's fine. A little Evelyn Wood won't hurt either (does anyone still remember Evelyn Wood?)

The kids have tvs in their rooms, but the one in the family room blew about eight months ago. When my DH and I were on our trip, though, we watched tv in the motel room. We'd find the Discovery Channel and watch that. I think that's probably about all I'd watch if we had a tv, except that I'm too cheap to pay for cable.

Oh - the Premium Services series.   ;D

I liked OZ.  Its last season last year was not its best, but it featured some good actors.

QAF is a mixed bag with some inconsistant and out of character plotting and writing, but at least it has some really bad actors to go along with it.  Two of the major characters Brian (Gale Harrold) and Justin (Randy Harrison - who was a second choice for the role when the parents of the original actor requested that their son drop out) are particularly badly acted, but it's just television, after all.  The producers-writers have admitted that much of their writing is motivated by "anger", and it shows.  Sharon Gless is giving probably the best performance, but even she is sometimes defeated by the plots. QAF gets my Dark Shadows Award  for Important Heavy Plot Points that come from nowhere and then are never EVER mentioned again EVER, or worse contradicted!!!

Another highlight of QAF is beautiful Thea Gill who plays Lindsay Peterson, the blonde lesbian.  She is a great friend of a friend (Jeff Marshall, a casting agent in Toronto) and asked for a lot of Frances Farmer material, which I was glad to share with her, she was kind and thoughtful and wrote me a nice note when she got it.  I think DR JMK has had some contact with her as well.  Lindsay played FF in a play  Saint Frances of Hollywood and may play her again.

Here is a link to her website.

I enjoy Alias, not only for its lightning pace and Jennifer Garner's stunts (and wigs),  but also because it's one of the two shows that my partner, Gord, and I both like. (The other is Without a Trace. And if BK thinks Alias's music hits you over the head, then WaT's just about knocks you out.) But there are no have to see shows.

In the rerun department, I can never get too much Frasier or Mary Tyler Moore, which is a good thing in the case of the latter - since the same twenty or so shows seem to be on a lot. But I have a tradition going: when I'm working at home, I plunk myself and a bowl of vegetables in front of Mary, Lou, Rhoda, et al., and start slicing and dicing for the night's upcoming dinner.

Well, I am a TV junkie. I happen to think right now is a zenith in the history of TV drama. No, we don't have classy PLAYHOUSE 90 (yep, CBS) stuff any more with distinguished writing from great playwrights, but there are a host of absorbing TV dramas out there. Yes, HBO has two of the greatest ever: SIX FEEET UNDER and THE SOPRANOS, but there are wonderfully slick, commercial entertainments like CSI, all three LAW & ORDER shows, '24,' THE SHIELD, ALIAS, MONK, and WITHOUT A TRACE that I wouldn't think of missing. Added to this are comedies like FRIENDS, WILL & GRACE, and SCRUBS, and I DO a lot of TV watching.

Another thing. As a gay man, I waited most of my life to see gay people portrayed on television in a variety of stories, some realistic and some farcical. Straight folks might not understand why something like QUEER AS FOLK or IT'S ALL RELATIVE, both mediocre in quality, would be so appealing, but there haven't been many gay characters on TV during its formative years that either weren't thought diseased (MARCUS WELBY and MEDICAL CENTER episodes) or went straight or became neutered sexually (SOAP, DYNASTY). I am glad I lived long enough to see the gay characters on WILL AND GRACE, IT'S ALL RELATIVE, QUEER AS FOLK, and SIX FEET UNDER be gay in all different shapes and sizes. The shows they're on my seesaw greatly in quality, but I'm grateful for them, and you won't hear me knocking them ever.

Good morning one and all!

Consistently, I watch every NBC LAW & ORDER (original, SVU and CI); great writing and you can't beat the performances of Sam Waterston, Vincent D'Onoffrio and Chris Meloni.  Jayne Mansfield's daughter has a certain charm, too.

SMALLVILLE suffers the same musical problem that BK expressed about ALIAS. . .but, the leads are quite cute, and it's usually super.

and then there's ANGEL. . .what a treasure!  I haven't caught up on seasons 3 or 4, but, this season is a wow so far. . .

When my friends who work in television first heard about the premise for 24, they scoffed: What's that going to be like?  Pictures of a man snoring?  What about him on the toilet?

But the first season contained enough genuine surprises to make me wonder what would happen on the next episode.  That's quite a feat.

It's nice to see shows produced by pals mentioned here, but so far no one's named Curb Your Enthusiasm...

Wow! Thanks for the super picture of David. I have been watching ANGEL this season just because I don't watch THE WEST WING, and I have an hour to kill between ENTERPRISE/SMALLVILLE and LAW & ORDER. I've enjoyed the shows thus far.

The thing is that one becomes invested in the characters in a weekly show like ALIAS. Yes, it's comic book quality storytelling, but it's addicting, and I look forward eagerly each week to see adorably nerdy Marshall explain his latest gizmo or see the on-going saga of Sydney and Vaughn's love affair play itself out surrounded by the unbelievable stunts and the classy production values (you KNOW they aren't going on location for all those shows, but the production design is so good it's convincing that they are.)

The best new television show of the season has already been cancelled: THE BROTHERHOOD OF POLAND NEW HAMPSHIRE.  This was a typical quirky David E. Kelly show which was probably a little too strange for the average viewer.  For example one of the characters had a Katie Couric fetish and TIVO'd her every day.  His wife found out and then dressed as Katie to pep up their sex life.  I also like HOPE AND FAITH.  I was never much of a Kelly Ripa fan, but she is very funny here and the team of her and Faith Ford is almost as good as Cindy and Penny or Lucy and Vivian.  Of the other new shows I sampled the worst is JOAN OF ARCADEA.  Despite a good cast I found a high school student talking to God in the form of her cafeteria worker unintentionally funny, but not funny enough to be enjoyable.  This show has already been renewed for the whole season.

I missed chat last night because I was at City Center to see "Gotta Dance".  This was a benefit for "Career Traditions in Dancers" where there were four award presentations and a lot of great dancing.  One award went to the late Donald O'Connor who knew he was going to get this before he died and had been quite touched.  The others were for Cyd Charisse, Fayard Nicholas of the Nicholas Brothers and Turner Classic Movies for preserving so much dance on film.  Cyd looked beautiful as did Arlene Dahl, Marge Champion, Mary Tyler Moore and Jane Powell, all presenters.  Based on audience reaction, the most popular presenter was Esther Williams.  I did not realize that she had fallen down, broke several bones and was told she would never walk again.  Last night she did walk (on the arms of 2 musclemen in skimpy swim suits - was the applause for them?) and although she had aged more than any of the other women she still looked good and had the same wonderful spunk and sense of humor as ever. [I hope Esther and Arlene were assigned different dressing rooms]  Dance numbers included a drag tribute to Carmen Miranda, NYCB in "America" from WEST SIDE STORY (introduced by Russ Tamblyn and George Chakiris), part of THE RED SHOES ballet, Ann and Bebe leading "Hey Big Spender", 2 classic pas de deux, and a tap dance ensemble to "Hooray For Hollywood".  Three intermissionless hours went by so fast that when I looked at my watch afterwards I was amazed it had been so long.

I forgot to mention RENO 911, DR td, but I love it, too. It is hysterical, and seemed to get even more so as its short season progressed. I was happy to see that Comedy Central has renewed it for a second set of episodes. I recorded all of them to DVD to watch again. Due to its improvisational nature, it wasn't as consistently hilariouos as the old POLICE SQUAD! TV show (that later morphed into THE NAKED GUN movies), but it was still very funny. Again, I looked forward to seeing what antics these inept cops would get into. I was never disappointed.

Loved the few seconds I had in chat last night.  Favorite series has got to be "The Nanny" followed closely by "The Golden Girls" and I always liked "Mr Belvedere" for several reasons, I liked the theme song a whole lot, and other reasons that I can't post here!   :o

I'm going to see the recent non-equity tour of "Seussical" this eve and will report back tomorrow.  I saw the Cathy Rigby tour (although I didn't see her) last January and loved it.

I agree DR MattH, that it's nice to have some representation on television - ie QAF.  And I know I was a bit hard on the show, but a pet peeve of mine has always been a producer/director/writer who uses a show to push an agenda.  I just wish we could watch these characters behave as the people we have been told they are from week to week.

DR  WEL thanks for the news about the show you saw! I am jealous that you saw so many of my favorites!  And it sounds wonderful, what a great selection of songs and performers.  Why don't they ever tape anything like THAT for television?  Do you think it will be released for DVD?  I suppose the rights and images fees would be astronomical!

Oh my, can you imagine Esther and Arlene in the same dressing room?  Talk about a scene from The Opposite Sex!  Wow!

Of course most of our younger DR's wouldn't know that Esther was married to a man who had once been married to Arlene....but now they do!

As a kid I watched a ton of television, but I just don't seem to have time to watch too much of it now-a-days.

But my current new favorites are MOST EXTREME ELIMINATION CHALLENGE...this show is so hilarious! SURVIVOR: PEARL ISLANDS is the only other show that I watch on a regular basis at this time. I have also enjoyed watching QUEER EYE FOR A STRAIGHT GUY. Occasionally I will tune in to EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND or KING OF QUEENS, but not on a regular basis (I couldn't even tell you what nights they are on!).

I used to watch WILL AND GRACE regularly, but for some reason I don't anymore.

No favorite new shows, but I would be remiss if I did not mention Cheers, which my sister-in-law was Production Manager for.  As I have mentioned, probably ad nauseum, my sister and brother-in-law (with the rest of the production staff and their spouses) are featured in that last episode, as patrons of the bar.  However, if you blink, you'll miss them.  So, no blinking.   :-*

I am and always will be a staunch advocate of/for "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

I, too, watch "Angel" and this season offers a twist that hasn't found its legs yet.  And if it doesn't find them REAL soon, it's going to lose a viewer.  Spike and Harmony from "Buffy" are new additions to the cast.  And if any of you remember Spike being the vehicle through which The Powers That Be destroyed evil by consuming Sunnydale, then you should know that he is considered "in between" right now and they have Fred working on ways of making him corporeal.  To me, this should have been done by the second episode.  But they're d-r-a-g-g-i-n-g it out.

Best new show I've watched:  Don't hate me, but I love "Miss Match."  I've always been a pushover for Alicia Silverstone.  Here, she takes her Cher/Emma character to a different level, but it's still making matches and she is very appealing.

"Nip/Tuck" is a very interesting show that I catch from time to time, but I find myself watching "Law and Order SVU" and "Real World" and "Road Rules" and some of their offshoots, like "Gauntlet."

"Trading Spaces" is also a favorite and "Queer Eye" will return to my viewing schedule when some new episodes are aired.  And there are "Smallville" (I love this show and the music does not bother me in it, although I know where td is coming from), and "Everwood" which attains a great balance between the adult arcs, the teen arcs and the adult/teen arcs.  Treat Williams is wonderful as the brilliant neurosurgeon starting a new life in Everwood CO after his wife died.  Tom Amandes is wonderful as his nemesis...the town's other, resident, doctor.  And Debra Mooney is terrific as Amandes' feisty mother who latches onto Williams and serves as his nurse because her son is impossible to work for.  The teens are pleasant enough, a tad bland perhaps.  Vivien Cardones is fantastic as the young daughter of Williams.  Treat is a treat!

I've totally lost interest in "Enterprise", but I do watch "Friends" and "Will and Grace" with regularity.  "Friends" is not bad, this year, but it can't decide who it wants to put with whom before the season ends.  I think Ross and Rachel will end up together, but that feels terribly false right now.  They blew a huge opportunity to put Rachel and Joey together which would have been awesome, but they didn't seem to know how to make it work, and they wrote an awkward scene where they couldn't "get it on" for the other person.  (Of course, they started this "thing" last season.  Since then, a spin-off show based on Joey has been slated for next season. Doubt that Anniston would be a part of that, so no Joey and Rachel).

"Will and Grace," MBarnum, might surprise you this season.  There's  much less viciousness on the part of Karen and Jack...and Karen seems to be evolving into a lesbian.  The Grace/Leo thing just hangs there like a giant boog peeking out of somebody's nostril.  You just don't know when they're going to wipe it off.  But it has been funny, especially last week with Will's mother (Blythe Danner in a terrific performance) staying with Will for a time and Will turning into the obedient little boy who used to pick out her bras.

f they bring Veronica Cartwright back for another solid turn as Jack's mother this season, it will have been a great year.

Wonderful chat last night.  So many thoughts, each being expressed a mile-a-minute, were mindblowing.  The only thing you can do is just start typing and hope you're making some sense.

 ;D

I love Discovery and TLC and the Food Network (love Tyler Florence, tolerate Mario whosis, hate Emiril LaGasse).

There are other shows I've heard about that seem interesting but I've just not gotten around to checking them out.

Ooh tv, hmmm I wonder if I will have anything to say about this topic? :)

BK, stick with Alias. I love that show.  Although you have another whole season to catch up on!

Me, I am a WB girl!  I love all those shows (most of them girly ones): Gilmore Girls, Charmed, 7th Heaven.

I also love reality shows like: The bachelor and Amazing race (please come back).

And dramas like: West Wing and Juding Amy.

My favorite new show would be either: One Tree Hill or Miss Match. I have not gotten into any of the others.

I used to do so much theater, that it was pointless to get hooked on any TV series, because I was usually never home to watch them.  I remember they always started those big miniseries (Roots; Rich Man, Poor Man) on Sunday evenings, but I knew better than to get started watching any of them, since I would never get to see how they ended.

Now that I try to limit myself to four or five shows a year, I find myself watching mostly sports and newsmagazines.  I am a big baseball nut (especially the Seattle Mariners) and they play a one hundred and sixty-two game season, so most every evening there is at least one game on the TV.

It isn’t that I am a snob about TV. I like The Dead Zone, Everybody Loves Raymond, Scrubs, Will and Grace, King of Queens, and all of the versions of  Law and Order.  I just never see them.  I have tried taping the shows, but I have found that I never get around to watching the tapes.  I only managed to catch the entire season of Dead Zone because I bought the DVD set.  The only new shows I have caught, so far, have been Whoopi (not bad) and Hope & Faith (dreadful), but I am really looking forward to Arrested Development on Fox.

Good morning one and all!

Jason that Wonder Woman pic makes me laugh EVERY time I see it!  It is toooo funny!

Favorite tv shows... hmm.... Better make this in list form:

1) Gilmore Girls - wonderfully Girly yet with great rapid fire dialogue. They talk like me! :)

2) West Wing - I was on a WW hiatus for a while when Gilmore Girls was aired in Canada opposite it on Wednesday nights, but then I discovered that Fox broadcasts it on Fridays during the day.  I am worried that Aaron Sorkin's leaving might make WW not as wonderful...  I mean, how many people in the fictitious White House can have their lives threatened in a big cliff-hanger ending?

3) Survivor - Mainly because it has become a sisterly tradition in my family.  On Thursday nights my older sister has my little sister and me come over to her house (all of 4 minutes away!) to watch the show.  It's funny because we don't actually say we're watching Survivor - we just sing the weird theme song.  Oh way Oh way Oh way Oh Way Oh Way Oh Way Oh.  We are quite quirky

4) Am Idol - For when Survivor isn't on

5) Law and Order (except for Criminal Intent) - SVU and the orginal series are so consistently well done.

6) Six Feet Under - although in my HBO-less world I have only seen the complete Season One

I'll check in later!  :)

You pose the question:

Why (has) my signature seem to have disappeared from the end of the notes?

You call Alias derivative, make fun of Sidney’s lips, call the head of SD6 tiresome – and you wonder why strange things are happening!!!!!

And to quibble further:

You Opine:

It is amusing to me that people find this series unique and original. That it’s not, at least in my opinion (IMO, in Internet lingo). Take a spoonful of Mission: Impossible, a teaspoon of La Femme Nikita and a large dose of the anime Noir and mix it all together with a few other shows and you’ve got Alias.

Well, Dear Writer, can not the selective blending of various ingredients result in a unique and original product? If we were to demean creative blending of known ingredients we would all be reduced to subsisting on ham chunks and processed cheese slices (or, God Forbid, Whacky Noodles).

After all, take a little Sholom Aleichem, blend with some Jean Kerr, season with Irma Bombeck and finish off with a touch of Dave Barry and you end up with a Kritzer novel.

The above is all, of course, IMNSHO (Internet talk for In My Not So Humble Opinion).

Well, time to go fiddle away

Good morning/afternoon!

I just got out of speech class, where I gave my much-prepared and equally dreaded speech on Broadway ticket prices.  I have no idea how it went, but I think I did okay!

Hmmm....I don' t watch nearly as much TV as I used to, but I'm an HBO gal myself.  I LOVE Sex and the City, Six Feet Under and agree with Noel that Curb Your Enthusiasm  is hilarious.  Oh...I also enjoy Queer Eye, Will and Grace and The Simpsons.

Jason--Wow, what a great opportunity to meet Jo Sullivan!  Does she still perform?

WEL--the show sounded terrif!  I was positively salivating reading about it!

TD--Wow, what a great David Boreanaz pic (both of them but I LOVED the first).  I could make a raunchy comment about it, but this is a family-friendly website.

Isn't it???  ;)

I'm afraid I don't have much to offer for today's topic of the day.  I do get cable so I can see more than snow on my screen, but I do not subscribe to any of the premium channels.  While I read the paper in the morning, I turn on the local news (with the volume turned way down) in the event of some important breaking news.  I do look at the occasional PBS special, such as the recent coda to Ric Burns' New York and Tony special, and will tune in tomorrow evening for the coverage of the opening of the Walt Disney Concert Hall on Great Performances.

When I'm cleaning house or reading, I might have Classic Arts Showcase or the Showtunes channel of Music Choice playing, but more as background noise than anything else.

I fear I must report that I've not seen one episode of Queer as Folk or Six Feet Under or any of the other HBO/Showtime series that have been so lauded.  When I used to travel for business, I would catch an occasional episode of The Sopranos or Sex and the City.

There are only so many hours in the day, and given my heavy schedule of theatre and concert and movie going, and frequent desire to read, the end result is that my television just doesn't get used very much.  No judgement there, just the way it is chez moi.

Kerry, my sister feels the same way.  Earth 2 and Beauty and the Beast (with Ron Pearlman and Linda Hamilton) were two of her most favorite shows and both were cancelled.  She still hasn't gotten over those!

BK:  That painting is a knock out!

Jason: How great that is that you will get to meet Mrs. Frank Loesser!

I used to get HBO, and when I had it, I watched and enjoyed both Sex and the City and Six Feet Under, but I didn't care for either one enough to keep HBO.  Never saw The Sopranos.  It just didn't interest me.

Here is another BBC link. Michael Feinstein is doing a six week series on American songwriters. Last week was the first and he featured Peggy Lee. This week he's featuring Harry Revel and Mack Gordon. They wrote most of their songs for Hollywood movies. Good interviews and material. Here is the link in case you want to listen. You can then use it for the next four weeks to listen to subsequent shows.

Click on the link below to go to the BBC Radio 2 page then click on the Feinstein link.

Dear Readers:

I will be making my "debut" this evening at the brand new Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles.  I have observed this magnificent building as it was being built over the past few years, and I am thrilled to finally have the opportunity to experience the hall as a concertgoer.

I'll be hearing the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, conducted by Murray Perahia, doing the following program:

Mozart: Adagio and Fugue in C minor, K. 546
Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 1
Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, BWV 1050
Mozart: Symphony No. 41, "Jupiter"

Mr. Perahia will be the soloist in the Beethoven concerto.

On Thursday night, I return to the hall for the Los Angeles Philharmonic's first regular subscription concert in the venue.  They will be performing Mahler's 2nd Symphony ("Resurrection"), which is, by far, one of my favorite works.

I will be sure to provide reports on both concerts.

Oh, did I forget to mention that I love Sex & The City!  We don't get HBO in Canada. But our Bravo station airs the shows 3 months behind.  So we are currently in the middle of the season you guys just saw.

This week we had the episode where bald guy proposes to Charlotte.  I cried!  The only bad thing about getting the shows 3 months behind, is that you hear things. I had already heard that Charlotte and bald guy would get back together :(

Oh well.

One thing I must say is if Carrie and Mr. Big do not end up together at the end I for one, will be VERY upset.

My favorite new Newtwork show is CBS’s “Cold Case”

This Jerry Bruckheimer show stars Kathryn Morris ("Minority Report," "AI: Artificial Intelligence," "The Last Castle," "The Contender," "As Good As It Gets" and "Jerry Maguire."). It has some of the most loving footage of urban Philadelphia since M. Night Shyamalan’s films.

USA network has a long string of good shows.
First there was “Dead Zone”, then “Monk”, and now “Peacemakers”.

It has Tom Berenger as a crusty oldtime Marshall

Peter O”Meara as a cocky young Sherlock wanta-be
(http://www.usanetwork.com/series/peacemakers/images/photos.cast.peteromeara.jpg)
and Amy Carlson as a not-yet-doctor as the coroner (Think Dr. Quinn meets Jordan)

For on-going series I’m addicted to “Stargate SG-1”
It stars one of my favorites, Richard Dean Anderson, in his latest role.

I also watch watching him in MacGyver reruns
(http://rdanderson.com/macgyver/images/mac2x.jpg)
and wish his show “Legend” had lasted longer.

Now, tell me this man hasn’t aged well!

I also enjoy Crossing Jordan – though Ken Howard has not aged well – but still puts in a nice performance.

The credit writers must have had fun with:

Dr. Trey Sanders played by Mahershalalhashbaz Ali
Mahesh Vijayaraghavensatyanaryanamurthy played by Ravi Kapoor

And, speaking (or actually writing) of Tom Berenger, he starred in one of my favorite films: Rowdty Herrington’s “A Murder of Crows”. It’s cast includes Cuba Goofing Jr, a fascinating support part by Eric Stoltz, and a wonderful turn by Marianne Jean-Baptiste (now in “Without a Trace”). The DVD has one of the best audio commentaries I’ve heard.

And before Woody gets a chance to point out my guilty pleasures, I confess to a continuing addiction to “Murder She Wrote” and “Diagnosis Murder”.

der Brucer: Please, one pic per post, otherwise it takes forever for people with dial-up modems to load the pages.  And, yes, I think that mixing genres can result in something unique - it's what David Wechter and I did in The Faculty.  I don't think Alias is unique however, which is not to say I'm not enjoying it.  As to the authors you list, yes, I suppose if you mixed them into a pot you could come up with a Kritzer novel, but only if the author of the Kritzer novel had actually read their writing.  I've never read Mr. Barry, Miss Kerr or Miss Bombeck - I'm ashamed to admit it, but it's true.  Alecheim I've read - at least his play The High School, which you'll discover when you read Kritzer Time.

Since I've had quite a few people query me about how and where I store my DVDs, here is a photo, a partial view, of my den.

For me "Video Killed The Radio Star" but "Reality Television" really slaughtered television. My only viewing other than the nightly news is the brilliant "Six Feet Uner" (we are about half way through series 3) and "Raymond" when we are not getting repeats. "Six Feet Under" has characters that whilst consistent in themeselves are constantly able to surprise with their reactions and choices. I really "feel" for the "Fisher family" and there nearest and dearest. Perhaps the secret is indeed that the directors of each episode are from fim and not TV.
Love some of the photos that are appearing on the site - sometimes I think I have gone to the wrong site! The scrap books of td and MBarnum are truly sensational!

My favorite current (but not new) TV show is The West Wing.  Without doubt, some of the best dialogue to be found on television.  Combined with very strong performances (particularly, IMHO, Allison Janney) you get one heck of a program.

Only other current shows I watch on a consistent basis are CSI and Without A Trace.  For non-current shows, I greatly enjoy M*A*S*H, Cheers, and my all-time favorite Quantum Leap.

The only two shows for which I look forward to watching new episodes are Alias and Good Eats.  I figure that Alias is a continuation of the grand tradition that began with Diana Rigg in The Avengers and continued with Sarah Michelle Gellar in Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, namely that of the ass-whupping female.  Add some quick quips and interesting techno, and you've got a hit series.  (If you like 'em animated, there's Kim Possible over on the Disney network.)

I agree with BK on how Alias over-uses the pop song as key to emotion gimmick, but what show isn't over-using it these days?  Instant cliche, made even worse by the number of shows that tell us during the end credits to buy the CDs, which share subsidiariness to some parent company with the TV series, which makes the use of the music even more bogus.

Alias also has one of the goofiest characters on series television in Marshall, played by Kevin Weisman, who looks and moves like a five-foot-eight dwarf.  For all his nerdiness, Marshall is simply endearing, two qualities he shares with Alton Brown on Good Eats, except that Brown isn't playing a character.  (Do I really need to tell everyone that der Brucer shares these qualities, as well?  Trust me, he's another endearing nerd.  I'm hooked on a type.)

By the way, let's not confuse "nerd" with "geek," the way some of my former under-educated co-workers were want to do.  A "nerd" is a socially inept person given to intellectual pursuits.  A "geek," on the other hand, is a side-show person who bites the heads off of chickens.  Aside from qualifiying any geek as an expert on yesterday's TOD, this means that geeks do what they do on purpose.  Nerds, in contrast, are quite accidental, almost serendipitous.

I hope this clears up that particular confusion.

Oh my gosh, I love Marshall on Alias. I totally love him.  He is a genius.  I love how he is a geek, and he knows so much.  Some of the things he gives Syd to use are wonderful.

Btw, I don't want to ruin Season 3 for Bruce. But what do you guys think of what happened in the finale last season and how it has changed the change?

Before I forget, the sunlight is orange again today here in Long Beach.  Not the deep orange it was on Sunday, thankfully, it looks more like a bottle of Sunny D, but it's still not good.  My deepest sympathies to the families of those who have lost their lives in these fires.

RE: Trading Spaces.

Barry and Edward.

That was barry's kitchen (yellow cabinets, brown floors and bluish walls).

And Edward did the palm tree beach bedroom?

I like Barry. He seems nice. But I'm not thrilled with his designs. The wall color was fine. The floor tiles were nice (but just as nice before). The yellow was bright. But i sort of liked it.

As for Edward, I loved the walls (painted as an ocean and sand - top layer light blue sky, then blue ocean, then sand). I hated the leaf bedboard. I hated the linens, bed spread ...

It was okay.

Did anyone see Trading Spaces family? Two families living in near mansions. The rooms looked great before. They really needed a $1000 room. Not.

I am not amused with TS for showing Barry/Rick/Edward/Kia all the time. I want the old desigers (hildy/vern/laurie/doug/gen).

I really think they are making a huge mistake by showing the icky designers too often.

And, since der Brucer hasn't posted on this, he's planned our drive to Delaware taking the "southern" route.  This will take us past the Grand Canyon, on through Arizona, New Mexico (specifically Gallup, where they take all those polls), Texas, Oklahoma, and then on through Arkansas, Tennessee (too bad I've already packed the Barber CDs; I think BK knows what I'd be playing while travelling through Knoxville), the Great Smokey Mountain National Park, Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, and then the final bit through the DelMarVa Penninsula to our new home.

Today we'll be picking up Everything was Possible for read-aloud material during the drive.  Yes, we enjoy reading aloud during a long drive; it's a great way for der Brucer to enjoy a book with me, and it's loads more personal than Books on Tape!

S. Woody White:  Is 'der Brucer' going to be the "keeper of the maps" or does that thankless task fall to you???

And how will the entourage be traveling?  Do you have little doggie seat harnesses or will you be in an SUV filled with doggie carriers?

Do the doggies let you know when they need to "go" or do you just do regular stops to accommodate them?

When I used to travel with my cat (she's been around the world many times, that one., but I stopped taking her back east with me when she was diagnosed with kidney disease (onset of) -- didn't want to put stress on her any more -- she never went until we got to where we were going...and even then, she scouted around until she was satisfied she was in safe territory.

Jennifer asked why there weren't so many posts today - I don't know, I'll take 114 posts by 1:30 California time any day of the week.  I have no complaints whatsoever.

Dan in Toronto: I guess I just don't understand what kind of computer you'd be on that would be that slow.  I use a dial-up modem and everything works pretty fast on this board (unless our server is hugely busy - and they're working on that).  There are certain times when it takes longer than others, but usually it moves right along for me, even with all these lovely photos.  Anyway, I hope you will stick around.

And now, for my latest photo, the very first piece of illustration I ever bought - acquired on eBay and still one of my all-time favorites - it was attributed to Leyendecker, but of course it's nothing to do with him - so artist is unknown.

Little Lulu, Little Lulu,
With freckles on her chin,
Always in and out of trouble,
But mostly always in.

Using Daddy's necktie for the tail of your kite,
Using Mama's lipstick for the letters you write.

Though the clock strikes seven thirty,
It's really after ten,
Looks like Lulu's been repairing it again.

Though your wild as any Zulu,
And your just as hard to tame,
Little Lulu, I love you - lu just the same, the same,
Little Lulu, I love you - lu just the same.

In my TV summary WAY back on page 1, I failed to mention SEX AND THE CITY, and I meant to. It's definitely one of my favorite shows, and the episodes shown this past summer were some of the highlights of the entire series: masterful mixtures of comedy and drama that had me laughing and crying almost every week. Yep, put me down for smiling through tears during that entire Charlotte/Harry proposal scene, and their wedding had me choking with laughter.

The shortened season last year was pretty awful, and I admit I didn't have high hopes for the series' final season. How delighted I am to admit I was wrong. The show is at its best right now, and I can't wait for the final episodes to be shown next year.

It's another warmish day here in the Bay Area.  I DO wish winter would get here, along with the reassuring rainfall that puts an end to our fire hazard alerts for the year.

BK:  Instead of a Leyendecker, perhaps it's a Lydecker...Waldo Lydecer, that is!.

Actually, the "lighting" effects remind me of Coca Cola's painted adverts.

I'm sure it's some wonderful lost something or other.  Take it to "Antiques Roadshow" next time they're in your neighborhood!!!

Oh, and HONEY WEST. It's SO comforting to know there are others here who remember that show. It only ran one season, and came on in the impossible Saturday night at 10 p.m. time slot on lowly (back then) ABC. Still, it seems to be remembered rather fondly. I wouldn't mind seeing some of those old shows again now.

Wendy was on a British and Oz novelty hit record in 1962 with singer Mike Sarne - "Come Outside".  OK So it is "show off" pop trivia time.

The worse thing is when you have fond memories of watching "classic" shows as child and then revisiting them as an a adult and you can't stand them. Usually they are comedies but some times they are drama/actions that were so of its time. Can't stand to watch "hip" shows. One of my biggest dissapointments as an adult has been "Batman". It is too painful yo watch and I adored it as a child. Same goes for Gilligan's Island and many others.

So let's twist our postings a little. What were your favorite shows but you can't stand to watch them anymore

Dad is going to be late again tonight, so I can hop on and post from time to time.  I SHOULD be studying for algebra right now, but I haven't got the slightest idea HOW to do the problems, so I'm here instead, writing my paper for history.  :P

I almost never watch TV, as I don't have enough time, but when I babysit, I watch a lot of The Cosby Show, Three's Company, Trading Spaces, The Real World, I Love the Eighties, Sex and the City, and, of course, ever kids show known to man.

BK: That is a LOT of DVD's. What was the first DVD you ever bought? Do you still have it?

My friend Alix is going to see Cabaret on Sunday, for the previous "last performance", and she's meeting up with Cabarethead from BWW. Apparently, this woman has seen the show 39 times, and Alix won't shut up about it. Is Cabaret really that good? It sounds fun, but I'm not sure if I'd go and see it 40 times. Or even twice. Anyway, I'm in for a looong week of "Sarah, only 5 more days until Cabaret! You SOOO need to see it. Adam Pascal is SO hot and Susan Egan is AMAZING even though I'm not going to see her and I'm seeing her awful understudy and did you know the orchestra is up above and the emcee dances with the audience and he shows his butt and the costumes are amazing and I know every step because I have a bootleg copy of the show and I'm going to be in it someday and I'm in LOVE with the set, let me draw it for you, it's so pretty and there's holes in the wall in 16 places and they say this word 500 times and I'm so excited aren't you?!?"

Just shoot me now...AND she's seeing Rent on Monday. If she starts obsessing about that I just might flip!  :o

Oh, and chat last night was uber-fun  :D. I was only there for about a half hour, as my dad strolled in the door and I had to scoot very quickly, but all that happened while I was there was fun indeed. I think we all missed chat, there hasn't ever been that many people at one time! It was moving too fast even for me!

*sigh*...off to do more homework. I'll check in later.

I'm going to try and post a picture, we'll see if it works.

I don't really like television that much, but I have for years watched Friends, Will & Grace, and especially ER, even though they are usually dreadful to sit through.  They become familiar and comfortable, like old friends (that you can yell at when they get too stupid or implausible).

Because I like Jennifer Garner, I keep trying to get into Alias, but the endless plot twists often lose my interest.  Miss Match is a cute show, and I keep meaning to watch the new WB show Tarzan, because I know the lead actress from high school and am curious to see her performance.  I am also going to start watching Tru Calling when it begins this weekend.  I hope it's good.

Other old favorites: Murphy Brown, Designing Women, Picket Fences, and Sisters.  I was a huge fan of My So-Called Life, but then again, I'm not sure if I only liked it because I was the same age as the characters at the time, and if I'd find it annoying now.

George - I know what you mean about getting attached to shows and then having them cancelled.  Like your sister, I loved the Beauty and Beast show.

WEL - Sounds like a lovely event last night.  I never watched Joan of Arcadia, but I think the lead actress in that series is the daughter of Russ Tamblyn.

Ron - my friend put on some weight after he'd been with his partner for a year.  He said it was a luxury to be able to develop "the body of monogamy!"  :)

Home again!  It’s feels like Halloween already.  It’s been dark, rainy/nasty all day long.  I hate the time change.  I’m much rather have it dark in the morning and a little light when I get home.

Hummm–where did I leave off this morning??  Ahh—Babylon 5!  I didn’t like the pilot movie so I didn’t watch the first few episodes.  Then one evening  there was nothing better (?!) on I turned over and got hooked.  The episode was called “Believers”

The thing I loved about the show was how it build itself.  Story by story, each a small part of a larger story five years long.  Minor details you didn’t even NOTICE in one show becoming a major part even a season or two later.  Even the pilot movie setting the whole thing up.  It was all there but you had NO idea!  Kosh called Sinclair “Valen” in the movie–how cool was that???

And who could have known what simple question would do?  “What do you want?”

And how about when Marcus says something to the effect that people always say how life is unfair.  But just think about how horrible it would be if it was?  That all the nasty things that happen to you are because you DESERVED them?  I’ve thought about that time and again.

I’ve GOT to buy the DVD’s and see it all again.

Of course, Babylon 5 is part of the screen name I use.  DofB5.  It's to honor some of the shows I like.  Babylon 5 (the B5 part), Highlander (the D for Duncan but it could also stand for Danise) and all of the Star Trek’s (7 of 9) so what you have is Duncan of Babylon 5.  Or possibly Dance of Babylon 5 as I’m sure many people on the theater boards thought it had something to do with Dance of the Vampires.    Works for me either way.

And how could I forget:

Dark Shadows
Port Charles
Beauty and the Beast
Xena
Hercules
Voyage to the Bottom of the Bathtub (errr make that Sea!)

Oh heck, why bother listing them all–if it’s sci fi or fantasy–I’m there!  Very few “regular” shows.  JAG is the only one that really comes to mind.

Well, I think this is a long enough post.  Sorry for being long winded--don't get me started on something I like--I forget to stop.  Have a good evening all!

D

My little sister is insisting on listening to her "Veggie Tales" CD at top volume.

"If you like to talk to tomatoes, if a squash can make you smile, if you like to waltz with potatoes, up and down the produce aisle............Have we got a show for you! :)"

Note that she is 10. And listening to that.  Then note that I am 16, and I know all of the words. I babysit too much.

"And now it's time for Silly Songs with Larry. The part of the show where Larry comes out...and sings a Silly Song. So, without further ado, Silly Songs with Larry."

"The Water Buffalo song! 'Everybody's got a water buffalo, yours is fast, but mine is slow, oh where we get them I dont know, but everybodys got a water buffalooooooooo! I took my buffalo to the store, got his head stuck in the door, spilled some lima beans on the floor, but-

"STOP IT, STOP! Stop right this instant, what do you think you're doing?! You can't say everyones got a water buffalo, when everyone does NOT have a water buffalo! We're going to get NASTY letters saying "Where's MY water buffalo? Why don't *I* have a water buffalo!", and are you prepared to deal with that? I don't think so, so STOP BEING SO SILLY!"

This has been Silly Songs with Larry. Tune in next time to hear Larry sing, "Everyone's got a baby kangaroo! Yours is pik but mines is blue! Her's was small but- AAAAAH!"

Wow...that is so sad...all from memory.

Can you tell I'm bored?

Now it's time for..."Where is my Hairbrush?" Oh the joy...

Another art piece - this one by renowned theater poster designer Paul Davis.  This was one of several "concept" drawings for the 1981 American Film Market.  According the info I have, there were twelve, not all by Mr. Davis.  I haven't been able to ascertain which was used, but I don't think it was this.  Still, it's pretty nifty.

Nothing online or in my Art/Ad Illustration books is a match or even close.  The closest ads are for Koehler bathroom fixtures - which never showed the actual....uh....fixture....just people waiting for someone to come out.  ;D

What great photos you've been posting all day, BK!  Your DVD library made my eyes bug out!  I'll be glad if I acquire half of that number of DVDs in my entire lifetime!  I like the last one too...sad that I actually can recognize that as Theda Bara.  I'm a film geek from way back.

Swishy--what an adorable pic of the giant kitten!  Soooo cute!  Did I mention it was sooo adorable?  Hehe.
I personally MUCH prefer Cabaret to Rent (and I'm kind of sick about hearing how incredible Adam Pascal is too). I think Cabaret completely deserves its status as a musical classic...the songs, characters, themes and everything are so wonderful--everything just comes together so well.  Not to bash Rent too much or anything....it is a good show...just not my taste.

I am loving all these pics!  I will scour the web and soon post one of my own!

On the topic of TV shows:
I used to be a big Buffy fan, but once riley left, I just couldn't have the same emotional involvement. Don't get me wrong, I adore Spike-- but I just found they drew out the him and buffy thing for a very long time.
I love Sex and the City when I get the chance to watch it: Last new years, Emily and I spent the entire night just watching episodes on satillite TV.

Other shows:the Nanny and Fresh Prince: sigh... if only for the theme songs and the butlers.

Gilmore Girls: I enjoy that as well.

Will and Grace: Classic.

ER: Noah Wylie! I sit and drool.

And.... I adore watching those elimidate things with a whole big group of people so we can be caty. I'm evil and I love!

And thanks td for those Angel pictures-- sigh... brings me back to the first session, around the fifth episode when buffy finds out he's a vampire... ah the memories.

You know that I just noticed that today's note's title is a mixture of French and English!

In other words  The Big Cat!

And what I really wanted to post is that I totally forgot about
The Twilight Zone!!

I have to admit I really liked the Golden Girls, but when you watch them twice a day 5 days a week you see that it fell into a pattern. It became very predictable and when they ran out of material they used the flashbacks from previous episodes.

Also forgot The Mary Tyler Moore Show as good as it was hopelessly stuck in the 70's. I bought the first season on DVD and there were some great shows the majority of them did nothing for me. But then there was the classic Chuckles the Clown Bites The Dusk which I think was votes or has been acknowledge as the single funniest episode from a series.

Hello all! I am very sorry to have missed le gran chat, but I had a good excuse-I was studying for my midterm in my Comparative Politics class. I think that the test went pretty well, though it was a long test-after 80 straigh minutes of writing, my hand was very sore indeed! I have just been studying for my English midterm tomorrow, about wich I feel relatively Confident. I feel that I have a command of the important literary terms which I need to know. It is quite the fun class-I'm really learning about teasing small details in to major statements about the book.

I watch very little television these days, dues to the large amount of studying I need to do. And when I do watch stuff on TV, it is usually a DVD that someone brought in.

THe major show that I love to watch is The Daily Show-really some of the best political satire around. And Jon Stewart's interviews with political figures are actually quite intelligent, and low on the self-serving bull that one often sees them saying-he puts them off-guard. There are some other shows that I watch, but not too many.

I am looking forward to the next few days. Partially this is because after tomorrow I have no more midterms, which is very nice indeed. But there are other lovely thigns coming up: On Thursday I will be able to go (for free) to the school's production of The Real Thing (because I am a theatre major). It is one of my very favorite plays, so I am looking forward to seeing it. I may even return to it with my parents next weekend, which is parents weekend. This Saturday, the film society on campus is commemorating the 0th anniversary of the death of Fellini with free showings of his Nights of Cabiria (basis of Sweet Charity) and his 8 1/2 (basis of Nine). These are quite interesting, outside of their Broadway connections, as these are both 1) classic films and a) free. I think that I will put together a group of friends to see these both with me, with a trip for Chinese food in between. Discussing a movie or play you have just seen over Asian food is one of the great joys of life, wouldn't you say?

Fortunately I am not too sensitive to such issues but it can be taken as a little insulting to be listed as a Newbie when you have been posting almost every day for nearly two years. On to the positives: I received my DVD of "Broadway's Lost Treasures" today.  Of course it is great to have those performances but there could have been so much more that was so much better! If only the rights to the better shows were to be made available. My poor old video copies are probably too faded to transfer to DVD. Now I am sounding negative again.

MY DEAR HAINESY/KIMLET FRIENDS:

I must heartily apologize for my truancy and errancy and also for my errancy and truancy.  But the long awaited UNPLEASANT BUSINESS (UB) is finally coming to a head this week.

That's right, the trial has started.  Yesterday was jury selection, and today the prosecution presented their first witless witness, the gracious and conniving Lady Macbeth.

What I am asking of you all, if you will, is to send Joe and me your Good Vibes.  Yes, those we could use in abundance.  Specifically, vibes of the following varieties:

1.  That the Innocent should be exonerated.

2.  That the Evil Persons should be shown for what they are.

3.  That I should not make a fool of myself on the witness stand.

4.  That Joe and I should remain calm through all of this.

So far, number 2 above is being taken care of.  A fuller report will follow next week on Lady M.'s performance before the court and the rolling eyes and snickers that it engendered.

For now, let me just apologize again and tell you that I have not read the notes since last Thursday and probably shan't again until the weekend.  But my heart is here at hhw, although my body is sitting in the hallway of the courthouse reading Gregory Maguire's Wicked for hours at a stretch.

I'm not quite sure who the gentleman in the turtleneck is, but to my eye he looks rather overbleached and malnourished.

His name is Spike - and he is very pale because he stays out of the sunlight ('cause he's a Vampire) and he looks malnurished because he's a reformed Vampire and limits his diet to pre-package animal blood.

His name is really James Marsters.  As "Spike," he is the "biggest BAD who ever was" and he is brilliant in his role.

When he and Buffy were an item, it was he who fell in love with her....their relationship, though, was based merely on the physical, and he was totally brilliant in those scenes.

In the finale of "Buffy," it was Spike whom they chose to use to make the "ultimate sacrifice"...something that Angel was supposed to do to atone for his many sins.

Spike's karma is SO GREAT that it pains me to seem them torture him in the new season on "Angel" in a "will they bring him back or won't they" scenario.

Tom from OZ:  You've got 7 karma hits and 43 posts.  You're just 8 posts away from being a "Junior Member" on the "new board."  I was there day before yesterday.  Today I am a full member with more than 100 posts.   Just keep on keeping on.....

MBarnum I sent you an email.  I think what you did was just link a website. It looks like you chose the website icon, instead of the image one (the picture frame, 5th one on the bottom row).

Don't forget. The best part of this feature is that you can preview your pictures. So you can see if the picture is working.

To me, actually the only confusing part was when i clicked on "properties", i had to go to where it said "website/url" and copy that link. I had never done that before. That was the only part in the instructions that I thought could be difficult.

Good luck.

One of my favorite network TV shows is "The Guardian".  It's kind of weird and offbeat but I like the low key, sometimes almost TOO low  key, style of Simon Baker.  It has a talented cast and  interesting stories.
"The Office" on BBC America is a very funny show. The only problem is that the accents are difficult to decipher. Anyone who works, or has worked, in an office will love this show.  It has just been released on DVD and one of the bonuses is English subtitles. There are times they could come in handy.
I wanted to take just a moment to extend my sympathy to the citizens of fire ravaged Southern California.  I work in the travel industry here in Oregon and we are starting to get calls from people who have to cancel their trips because they have been burned out of their homes, they are being evacuated, or they are firemen who were paged as they were checking their bags on the plane at LAX. It's horrible to see on TV but it really hits home when you here people describing what is happening to them.
To everyone who is directly involved by this disaster or who knows someone who is, I  think I can safely say that our thoughts are with you and hope this is over very soon.
This also includes all of the firefighters who are bone weary but keep working to try to save homes and lives. They are really heroes.
Gov. Gray Davis has asked our Governor for help in the form of a special helicoper that no other National Guard in the nation has. It's excellent at fighting fires. Gov. Kulongowski dispatched the troops and the helicopter at once.
Peace.

You're right about HONEY WEST being on Friday on the network, but in Charlotte back then, there was no separate ABC affiliate. Our local Channel 9 divided its schedule between NBC and ABC's lineups, and our local channel carried it on Saturday night (on a week's delay). They did the same thing with BATMAN running it a week late at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday rather than at 7:30 which they used to show NBC's THE VIRGINIAN on Wednesday and whatever NBC carried on Thursday for those years.

Sorry, I should have made that clearer.

Most wonderful and supportive vibes to WFO and Joe. I will focus all of my opimism in good winning over evil on the outcome of your unpleasant business being the least unpleasant possible. Unpleasantness should go away, as far as I am concerned.

DR Andrea: we have studied Frankenstein, some Sherlock Holmes stories, and Dracula. Later, we will move on to Heart of Darkness, The Maltese Falcon, and The Bluest Eye (Toni Morrison).

And I now will go to sleep, in preparation for said midterm.

Oh, by the way, many thanks to the DR's with the photos. Makes me glad that I have fast-loading broadband here!

Another TV Icon who was a sort-of hero, for a short time:

The late Gardner McKay in "Adventures in Paradise" (he starred as Capt. Adam Troy who sailed the Pacific in his schooner the Tiki).

Time for a late post. We have rain again. Depressing because we have had so many wet days of late but it needs to be a very wet sping and summer to restore our water storages to the "safe" levels.  I hope for some rain to help with the Califonian fire situation but not too much to wash away all the top soil that will be exposed later. Thanks for the Adam Troy picture Ron. The theme is a favourite of mine too.
