I hate it when that happens! Good luck in getting to sleep, Jane!
-
And now, I'm off to bed, perchance to sleep. 8)
Have a good day, all!

Thanks George.

Good news from DR GEORGE about his show! Continued good run vibes for him!
Commentary, meeting, and rehearsal vibes for MR BK & Co.

Yes it is September......
I keep reading the composer's name in the notes as Miasma.
-
I used to buy ALL of the Original Broadway Cast albums/cds as they came along.....but I have been remiss for quite some time....
So after I ordered FUN HOME (which my favorite local, and Indy HOME theatre the Phoenix, is opening its season with this month) - I went ahead and ordered DEAR EVAN HANSEN, BANDSTAND, and THE GREAT COMET......
Hopefully I will find something to like in one of the four.....or MORE.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Hope you enjoy the CDs, JRAND.
-
I could use some more sleep.
-
Can you say "Miasma" on a family site?
-
Good morning!
-
Good morning, all! I am off to breakfast with Randy & Jo. I will post later.
-
T.O.D.
Maybe I'll watch GONE WITH THE WIND as a protest.
:D
-
Good morning, all.
-
Totally feels like a Saturday here. But so did yesterday, all due to goings on around the jernt.
-
This morning I will pay one quick visit to the library book sale that's opening up today.

CRAZY dream about my "house" -- which of course was nothing like my actual house. I have at least one of these, on average, per year. They always involve rediscoveries of rooms I'd forgotten I had -- plus so much more -- but there's always stuff that's totally bizarre about the place. In this dream it was the rediscovery of cabinets or cupboards, some of which might have contained some long forgotten wonderful belongings, but you couldn't get to the stuff right away due to the mildew. Oy!
-
Really looking forward to learning the identity of the mystery classical piece and conductor. Very, very interesting...
I'm also trying to think of sites where this should be advertised, but I guess I don't frequent any such sites or I'd have immediate suggestions.
-
T.O.D. (2);
If not GONE WITH THE WIND, then THE JAZZ SINGER with Al Jolson.
:D :D :D
-
Maybe a double feature DR DRUXY!
-
Today we are expecting some rains from HARVEY.....it is already MUCH cooler than the first of the week.
-
DR FJL we can just pretend that Miasma is the city where the Founteinbleu Hotel was.....

I took Randy and Jo to breakfast. After that, we ran a few errands, and now we are chilling out. Jo is canning the vat of vegetable soup from two days ago.

This afternoon, the conductor of Sunday's concert is coming by, and tonight I am visiting DR Ginny and Richard. I have a veritable social whirl.

Friday morning greetings! It feels more like October here than September, but I'll take it!

The Sweet MUMories film debut last night was great! I did not end up on the cutting room floor, but the first member of our family to appear in the film is Richard. He's talking about how as a young teacher he made use of the library's instructional materials center for his classroom and then he says, "Plus there was this cute librarian at the front desk, and now we've been married 36 years!" My clips are talking about
1) how our student library assistants all disappeared one afternoon and I found them over in the other building watching Luke & Laura's wedding on the TV in the student center,
2) how the Lebanon Correctional Institution inmates who were bused to campus for classes were rounded up one spring 1974 evening to go to Xenia, OH, to "look for bodies" after a tornado leveled the town, and
3) how our executive director finally decided we needed to be part of OCLC when he saw the electronic record for his doctoral dissertation on a screen at Ohio State University.

Ginny - Is it available online?

Ginny - Is it available online?
Not yet, DR FJL. They're trying to sell the DVD to raise scholarship funds. The whole thing runs 2 hours and 15 minutes, which is a little too long, I think. If excerpts show up online, I'll be sure to share them here.

I'm up, I'm up - wacky morning. Already did my banking, then had to put gas in the motor car, which I've been procrastinating about. It still showed I had twenty-two miles to empty, but when I started the car it kept stalling out, over and over again. I finally started it and gunned the gas pedal at the same time and that got it going and I was at the gas station two minutes later - I lucked out there as it was jammed but pulled in just as someone was pulling out. When I left there was a line. Folks, idiots of Studio City, in LOS ANGELES there is no gas shortage - you don't have to top off your tanks you morons (and at least three people were doing that because I heard them in the office saying "ten dollars" for their big gas-guzzling Mercedes SUV. It's unbelievable really. Hopefully the rest of the day will be fine and fancy free.

It sounds ds as if you are having a good time 😊
-
We had a lovely, if short walk on the beach. Now we are driving to Astoria for a bit of exploring before heading home.
-
DR Ginny I am glad you weren'the cut 😊
The part with Richard talking about the cute library is sooooo sweet 💝

It's one of the rare vocal scores, of which I found DR Elmore the ultimate copy a couple of years ago -- his is the cloth bound edition, in excellent shape, and even had an interesting first owner. This is the paper bound, and except for having obviously been loved (the spine has the telltale "roll"), it's completely unmarked and in solid condition.
Three bucks. Cash on the barrelhead.

I think I'll watch Disney's "Song of the South"! For some reason, that seems to be held in even worse regard than GWtW. ::)

I have a question for anyone...in a couple of weeks, the entire library system is going to get together for our annual All Staff Training Day and the receptionist here in my building is putting together the 5-year recognition video for the day. He wants (was asked) to put music with the slide show of the pictures of everyone who is celebrating their 5-year increment anniversaries and wanted suggestions for songs. He could only think of "Celebration (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeTgx_pj6m8)" by Kool & the Gang, but I said that I'd look for other suggestions that also might be appropriate. I haven't found anything. :-\ Does anyone else have any ideas? He needs them by later today (I don't know what time, but not too late), so if you have any ideas, please let me know! Thanks!

Great! I think I accidentally came across that emoticon. It's a colon ":" and two close-parentheses "))". It's not one of the emoticons built into this board, but it works.

George - how about the "Happy Anniversary" song from The Flintstones?
-
Or the chorus of "Stomp" by the Brothars Johnson?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPBDMihPRJA
-
And for happy events of all sorts, there's Pharrell Williams' "Happy"

Two other items from the sale today:
Porgy and Bess conducted by Simon Rattle, with Willard White, Cynthia Haymon and Damon Evans. I'd never listened to this one, and my general impression has been that Rattle is a pretty capable conductor of twentieth century opera, so what the heck. CD box set, four bucks.
Warner Bros. stereo LP, "International Film Festival", Werner Muller and his Orchestra. I don't think I'd ever come across this one, ever, and get a load of what's on the front cover: http://tinyurl.com/y9nb94qt For two bucks, I hope this copy is as pristine as it looks under my desk lamp.
-
BK surely must have had that one back in the day. I wonder how the arrangements are. I should just go downstairs and put it on the cleaner and see what I've got. But in the words of Lily von Shtupp: i'm tired.
-
Thanks for suggestions, Fred! :-*
Keep 'em coming!
-
George:
I Will Survive?
-
Record is in fine condition, but I dunno about the recording. I don't know these scores well enough to judge the arrangements, but the orchestra (the strings in particular) has that "lounge" vibe going on, and when I browse other Werner Muller albums, I can sort of see why. Lots of mood music, Phase 4, and the like.
-
Nice finds DR CHAS SMITH!
-
Good afternoon.
-
That was great, FJL.
-
George:
I Will Survive?
I don't think that that's exactly the message that they're trying to convey. ;)
-

Thanks so much, Laura!

George:
I Will Survive?
I don't think that that's exactly the message that they're trying to convey. ;)
If he might use just the choruses of songs rather than the full songs, the chorus of "Party in the USA"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGyjg3I7aK8 (starting at around 0:45 and then an extended chorus at the end)
could work also.

That could've worked, but he needed the song this afternoon and our work computers don't have programs to edit sound files. He settled on "Celebration," the first song that he thought of. In the anniversary video that will be played, there are title cards that say "Celebrating 25 Years!", then "Celebrating 20 Years!", etc., so "Celebration" works the best.
Thanks for all the suggestions, though!
-
And on that note (C-natural for "Celebration"), I'm off to the theater! Tonight after the show, a local astronomy club will be at the theater with telescopes for the audience to actually see the stars that are referenced in the play, and were what the real Henrietta used for her discovery!
Be back later!

Watching the U.S. Open Tennis games tonight.....one of my favorite sports to watch.....
-
What a day
-
When I collected Vixdad from the train station my ne k muscles were so tight I could barely turn. Y head
-
We came home, I put on my nightdress and took some ibuprofene
-
While I soaked my fet in a nice hot foot basin vixdad brought in pizza and wings
-
I am feeling much better now
-
A bowl of ice cream and nice cup of tea and I will be quite set up
-
Had the ice cream earlier. Good for the soul.
-
The supermarket I went to didn't have schmaltz. What kind of town is this?
-
Feel better vibes for DR VIXMOM.
-
Vixmom, hope you're better.
-
This Witless for the Prosecution is a yawn.
-
I had to place a reservation at the library for the real one.
-
It's 20% off sale weekend at Half Price Books. Dangerous thing. I found Der Lindberghflug and The Ballad of Magna Carta, two Weill pieces, on disc.
I also found a favorite Italian film, The Night of the Shooting Stars, in the cutout bin. And a few Texas cookbooks at really good prices.
-
Well, this Witless is as bleak as the new version of And Then There Were None. Just not as good.
-
BK surely must have had that one back in the day. I wonder how the arrangements are. I should just go downstairs and put it on the cleaner and see what I've got. But in the words of Lily von Shtupp: i'm tired.
Of course I had it - it was the only album with anything from Sunday's and Cybele - the arrangement are a little perky but I loved the sound and played it often. I have it on CD, too, now.
-
It was a very long day for this film music thing - a cellist, a violinist, two singers - and I had to hear every selection - but by the end of it at seven I had the show order, I removed one number that was just going to be deadly where it had to be positioned, and that was that. I had chicken tenders and a side Caesar salad for lunch, and never got over to the mail place.
-
I had a nice meeting and chat with the LACC student. I'm going to take a huge leap of faith with her and give her the female lead in Levi. She's got good energy, is very positive, and will work very hard and most importantly has no other distractions, like a job or even appearing in another LACC show before ours. She's very pretty and we'll work just as hard as we have to to get her where she needs to be. It's a great opportunity for a student to do this, I think, and I'm all for that.
-
Listened to the second half of this new first-time classical Kritzerland release - it cleaned up pretty nicely, too, but as long as people understand that even with the amazing work that's been done this is archival sound, it will be fine. This is all about the music and in the case of the symphony, about a legendary performance that's considered one of the finest ever done for this piece - and I have to agree with that.
-
And now I'm back to Miaskovsky - almost finished with this huge amount of music.
-

Good evening!
-
Page 4? Really?
-
Weather was in the 80's today.
-
It is suppose to get up to 90 starting tomorrow and into next week.
-
Today, my friend, Sharry, and I met up for lunch.
-
We went Mexican today.
-
We went to a place called Montezuma's.
-
It is probably the best Mexican restaurant in Tacoma.
-
It was very good.
-
One more post.
-

-
All alone.
-
A plane full of cats arrived in Seattle today from Texas.
-
These were shelter cats that were moved here to make room for pets misplaced during Hurricane Harvey.
-
I asked Nicky if he wanted a little sister, but I didn't get a response.
-
I hope George's show went well tonight.
-
A plane full of cats arrived in Seattle today from Texas.
It is nice they are moving them instead of killing them.
-
Sharry and I still don't know when and if we are going to do THE GIN GAME.
-
I was thinking maybe next July around the same time as THE LAST STARFIGHTER is playing.
-
Sharry thinks they may want to do it during the 100th anniversary season, 2018-2019.
-
Or maybe we will just bag the whole idea.
-
It would be nice for us to see you both performing together.
-
It would be nice for us to see you both performing together.
I would love to work with her one more time.
-
Greetings, 5 Guests.
-
Come back Guests!
-
Hi, Tom.
-
I hope George's show went well tonight.
It went quite well! We had about 50 people tonight and they all really seemed to enjoy it.
-
Hello,
Dolly George!
-
We went to a place called Montezuma's.
It is probably the best Mexican restaurant in Tacoma.
I don't think I've heard of that place.
-
It is kind of off the main drags in town.
-
It is on South 56th Street, but away from the freeway.
-
Tonight, a local astronomy club brought a couple of telescopes and the audience and cast and crew got to see Saturn! It was tiny but I got to see it and could actually make out the rings! It was so cool!
-
They also had another telescope focused at the moon. That was cool, too.
-
They're supposed to come back next Saturday.
-
Are you going to work on the next show at OLT?
-
It is kind of off the main drags in town.
I wonder if my sister has been there. She and her boyfriend used to go to Mexican restaurants before she became a vegan. Now that she's no longer a vegan but a vegetarian, I don't know if she still goes to Mexican restaurants.
-
Are you going to work on the next show at OLT?
I haven't been asked.
-
My friend Margo saw the show tonight, and afterward, we went to a new local restaurant for a late dinner.
-
We both had what was essentially chicken fried chicken (breaded chicken breast with country gravy). It was quite delish and we'll definitely go back!
-
And since we're so close...
-
PAGE SIX DANCE!!

What was the name of the restaurant?
