What a good idea. I've got some more, which I'll post tomorrow after resizing them.
What am I doing up so early here on the east coast.
MY ask BK question:
How do you or is it the vocalist decided on the title of the album or just doing it a self title?
Example: Anywhere I Wonder Liz Callaway Sings Frank Loesser.... Why was Anywhere I Wonder Chosen
Example: Emily Skinner's solo album is just Emily Skinner.
Example: Michelle Nicastro On My Own Conte, porary Songs From Broadway.
There are others but these are the ones I pulled off the self first
I watched THE LETTER this morning as well. I have mixed feelings about it.
I also just founf out today that the Leonard Gershe who is credited with writing Born In a Trunk from Garland's Star Is Born (It was really Roger Edens but he couldn't take the credit) and the narration for That's Entertainment Part Two is the same guy who wrote Butterflies Are Free

I don't know from iTunes or iPhoto or copying CDs in four minutes. I just spent four-five thousands getting all new computer crap and you're already telling me I'm behind the scenes. Hell, BK, I still have put that cord from the turntable to CD burner yet to get my vinyl on CD. What a techno-incompetent I am! Oh, wither the quill pen and the three-decker novel?
JMK, I assume the Wesley Balk Institute is named after the late, great Wesley Balk from the University of Minnesota and co-founder of Minnesota Opera. I studied with Balk at the University, taking his legendary (at least in Minnesota) "Acting for Music Theatre" class. It was then that I noticed the trend away from "musical comedy" to "music theatre" (or musical theatre).
Ah......yes more photos.
My question for ask BK day:
What are your favorite (not necessarily the BEST) performances of the Misses
Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Gene Tierney?
Dear BK, Of all of the albums you produced, which are you most proud of, and why?
My Ask BK questions are:
1. How many acolytes do you have, and where do you usually keep them whilst they are doing your bidding?
2. Whom in your career did you most enjoy excoriating?
;D
LOL DR Jennifer! Yep I stayed up and watched it this time.
Good episode. Freddy's getting so upset over the gate incedent was a bit ridiculous. The other girl who got hit by the gate didn't make a fuss at all...of course she doesn't make a living with her face, I guess. But really Freddy and Kendra I do not care for that much.
I also like Jon and Chris. Jon cut a fine figure at the water polo game!
DR Panni, that is a cool chicken! You should take pictures of him in various parts of the home environment!
Ah MBarnum, I see you watched last night's Amazing Race. Yeah!
I think I have been reading too many of the horror stories from the devastation in Asia...which is all so very sad...and difficult to comprehend.
DRPANNI - I meant to post that I do believe indeed that that is a Rooster!
DR JMK - You may want to post a Spoiler Alert before your previous post...
Jennifer mentioned it the other day, but I'll mention it again since it's tonight:Yipes, we're in trouble at my house! Tonight also brings us a new Good Eats episode..."Melondrama!"
The season premiere of ALIAS comes on tonight at 9 p.m. EST. It's a two hour season premiere, so set recorders accordingly if you're not going to watch live. I can't wait to see LOST and ALIAS, oth in high def.
Yipes, we're in trouble at my house! Tonight also brings us a new Good Eats episode..."Melondrama!"
RE: The Amazing Race - I loved the scenery, and I was sorry to lose Hera and Guy, but they ALWAYS chose the wrong challenge!
BK question.
I picked up the DVD of THE FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL this weekend and began watching it last night (had to stop in order to watch THE AMAZING RACE).
Besides Cindy Williams, what other cast members are you still in touch with from that film.
Also, what is the story behind the gal who plays Joy Full...she just cracks me up. Whatever happened to her?
(Of course some of this might be answered in the DVD commentary, but I have not yet listened to that.)
I'm also remembering that she ended up working at A&M Records.
Btw, that waterpolo guy was not really a champ was he? :)
Jon cut a fine figure at the water polo game!
George, you have the most amazing collection of CDs! Your 1776 collection sounds like my Forum and Call Me Madam collections. I have the OBC of Forum, the London production with Frankie Howerd, the movie and the Nathan Lane revival. For CMM I have the 12 songs by Ethel, the Dinah Shore "cast recording", the Tyne Daly Encores recording, the Prism release which combines Dinah and some of Ethel on one disk along with a couple of tracks from a London production and then I did with Call Me Madam what you did with 1776, making a CD of the soundtrack using my DVD as the source. It's also longer than the recently released CD of the film soundtrack because I, too, included bits of dialogue and sometimes when it was difficult to make the cut, I just included incidental music. It was a lot of work, but I'm happy with the end result.
We HATE Jonathan. . ;D
I sincerely hope that this ends that marriage and she finds herself some self confidence. Jonathan, of course, should die alone.
Do these participants see the edited episodes before they are broadcast?
One message board thought it would be great if Jonathan and Victoria got to the last run for the money, and Victoria sat down and told Jon to ^%$# off! And the other team wins.
I like Adam and Rebecca....LOL....so far....they just plod along and stay in the middle of the pack mostly by luck -
By the way, our Elsinore Theater is showing the classic comedy IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT tonight at 7pm. I am hoping to go to it. It also happens that Clark Gable (star of IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT) performed live on the stage at the Elsinore often prior to his becoming a film actor! I had no idea!
Is that that beautiful restored theater in downtown? I did a live show at some great old place in downtown Salem, but maybe I'm thinking of something else. ???
Perhaps Chooster will visit some outdoor locations in the future! Perhaps he can take a dip in BK's hot tub!
Chooster posting on HHW...
DR Ozderek and DR Tomofoz have either of you ever heard of a CD called Stairways to Heaven? I believe it was produced by a Aussie variety show. We have a copy and play that quite often.Indeed. Most famous for the Rolf Harris track!
Indeed. Most famous for the Rolf Harris track!
I just went a -shopping at Amazon, ordered me a First Nudie Musical DVD and and the Kritzer Trilogy, need to study up to understand the pictures being posted!!.
New question dear, BK when does the trilogy come out on Books on Tape for those of us with loooooong daily commutes on the ^%&#**LIE?
Ah, it is a true joy to be Lutheran , also known as Catholic Lite. No confessions, no saying prayers as punishment (can't quite grasp the concept) and a direct line to the big guy, no intervening saints required. :D
Confession anecdote (by Jove, I think this may be a new one): My middle sister converted to Catholicism prior to her first marriage. We all went back for her renaming ceremony or whatever it was (I was a kid, I barely remember it), and she had to make confession before her baptism. She went into the confessional and emerged a moment later, at which point my Mother stated under her breath, "She can't possibly have confessed everything she's done in that little time!"
Note to DR vixmom - All the titles you ordered today could have been ordered - and maybe you still can if they have not been processed on Amazon - from this here site. Just click on the link that appears on the first page of haineshisway.com.
Click on Unseemly Linkage here at the top of the page and you will see many links. You can click on links to all the Kritzer books and a link for Writer's Block and do all your purchasing.cool. lemme try
Are there any Catholics here who could give me a little technical expertise with this book I'm writing?
What is a typical "assignment" (and what is it officially called, anyway--ablution??) that a Priest would give you after confession in terms of the number of Hail Marys and Rosaries you should say. How would the Priest term it?

...I'm just baffled by what became of the warm vulnerability she displayed in Grand Hotel?...Vulnerability and shoulder pads simply don't mix. :-\

I'm proud of all my children. I don't know if it's the ONE I'm most proud of, but, as I've said before, Unsung Irving Berlin was an amazing experience (going through Mr. Berlin's trunk songs) and the album turned out just the way I wanted it to. l'm also very proud of Unsung Sondheim (ther first of its kind - oft imitated) and Liz Callaway's Frank Loesser album - just because they were the first two we did and because, despite the fact that none of us knew what we were doing, they still came out really well.
Watch out next time you put your fingers in the Holy Water, DRJOSE.
Oh, oh, oh...
Four o'clock and the Master not yet home...
The soundtrack LP of LI'L ABNER has different orchestrations from the film, too.
Most fim musicals have different orchestrations. They like to take advantage of huge Hollywod orchestras after that piddly 28-player Broadway sound!
The Abner soundtrack is very strange - the LP orchestrations ARE different than the film orchestrations even though the vocals remain the same. I don't think the movie orchestrations sound thin, though, although the VHS tape doesn't really present the sound very well. If there's ever a DVD with a 5.1 mix, my guess is it will sound excellent.
I think you misunderstood the point I was making. The orchestra backing the singers during the movie sounds different from the commercially released film soundtrack album, at least to my ears. The orchestra on the soundtrack LP sounds like 100 pieces large, and while looking at the actual film, it sounds like about 10 pieces. "Put "Em Back" to me was especially shocking to compare.

Pray God nothing's happened to him crossing the Hudson! Here it is the coldest day of the year. The dogs are sticking to the sidewalks. Can anyone explain that?Oh, I love The Skin of our Teeth and I always wanted to play that part. Would you direct it, DR Elmore?
At least, that's how I remember it!
Next time I do errands I may take Chooster with me. Think of the pic possibilities... Chooster at the bank, Chooster at Trader Joe's, Chooster dining a DuPar's (no Chinese Chicken Salad!)

Hmmm, I'm just reading the review I posted now. "Yet, despite haphazard grammar and a gaping hole in its logic" - that's sort of mean!
Warning. There are some SPOILERS in this review. Especially about the twist. So you might not want to read it if you haven't read the book yet.
Perhaps he could start the Chooster Theatre Festival and do things like THE THREE CHICKEN OPERA, THE ROAR OF THE CHICKEN THE SMELL OF THE CROWD, MY FAIR CHICKEN and other foul shows!
I'm very pleased with that review, even though it gives away something it shouldn't (he obviously didn't think that twist was so important). I'd be interested to know what the gaping hole in its logic is, as I was very careful not to leave any gaping holes in logic. Perhaps gaping holes are subjective. But it's a really well-thought-out review and pretty much a rave and I'm thrilled to have it.

For all those wonderful writers out there in the dark I have another question about your work habits. (Providing you use a computer to write and not long hand.)
After you finish your 1st draft do you print it out and make corrections or do you make corrections directly to the file?
I'm still catching up on posts. But why did they boo Ashlee Simpson last night? And was it BEFORE or AFTER she sang?
We don't get MTV here. But this weekend I caught the finale of her (Ashlee's) reality show. And it was sort of entertaining (quite similar to her sister's Newlyweds show which I really like).
I also have to get used to the built-in Safari browser – I haven’t figured out how to make it big enough. Mr. Mac Man said not even to bother with IE on the Mac – IE, apparently, is on the way out.
Will some marksman please choot the chooster and put it and us out of our misery?

Maybe it was for coming off as not the brightest bulb in the lamp?
I know I have mentioned how highly we think of our new vet but once again she has been more than kind and competent towards us. Yesterday as I was cleaning up all of Echo’s carpets from the floor-about 30 in total of various sizes (they were down to keep her from slipping on the floors) I had an idea our wonderful vet could use them for her new practice, so I left a message on her cell phone asking if she would like them. When she called back today and spoke to Keith he asked what the bill would be for her trip out here yesterday. Nothing was her response. The time and research she has done on our behalf so far is nothing compared to the fees we have received. With further inquiry he discovered her “Angel Fund” for charity veterinarian service is only up to $25. That is about to improve.
Will some marksman please choot the chooster and put it and us out of our misery?I chot the chooster, but I didn't egg the egg-uty!
I'm thinking of scanning something. I wonder what it should be?
Do any Mac/AOL users have this incessant AOL freezing problem? It happened about three times tonight - all when I was using shuffle play on iTunes, but I can't imagine that should have anything to do with it.
Are they really going to ignore the entirety of last season? I'm enjoying the show, though.Arvin Sloane steps out of the shower...
Sorry, it's every eight minutes, these commercial breaks - shameful. They finally brought up last season.
OH! A later in the day question for Ask BK Day... On the way into the show tonight, I was talking with my college choral prof and we wondered...
Do you think it would be possible for some of the "distinct" voices of the Golden Age - or even slightly before that and after that - to make it in today's Broadway climate? I'm thinking along the lines of Lotte Lenya, Glynnis Johns, Hermione Gingold, etc. -And I'm sure there are some men who come under this category.
They most definitely did not have the most beautiful voices - Lenya's voice has always puzzled me, for lack of a better turn of phrase - but they had good careers, and were identified as musical theatre voices. Has the day and age for true character voices come and gone?
Thinking back along my own experience, especially in auditions, most of the singers I play for are "singers". And any type of character-voice was something that the singer "added" rather than walked into the room with naturally.
Any thoughts? -And I know this also relates to the whole "They don't write (produce) them like they used to" problem...
Yes, I think they'd succeed because they have what most of these "newcomers" lack - real personality and character. They were all total originals, which you can't say about almost anyone working today.
-Actually, it would be neat if TV networks did that. Show the whole sitcom, then give the viewer a nice break to go to the bathroom, make a phone call, get something to eat, etc. -Although, I'm guessing the advertisers would not be too happy with that arrangement.
...I'm still looking for these agents you hear people thank on awards shows, "My dear friend and agent who has been with me for thirty-five years through thick and thin." Who are these guys?Travel agents.
