Well, you've read the notes, the notes were nice, and now it is time for you to post until the nice cows come home.

Oh, and I've already decided my first instinct with what this character does is probably right.  My other thought is probably too typical and would be harder to write in terms of how I want this character presented.

T.O.D.

Merv Griffin...for obvious reasons.

(He was very cooperative when I wrote his biography.  He even put me on the show.)

I would have said Dinah Shore, but she and her people were no help at all when I wrote her bio.  On the other hand, MISS DINAH SHORE is one of the 2 best-selling books I've ever written (The other is Basil Rathbone.)

Interestingly, despite all the nice royalty checks I continue to get for Dinah's bio, it's the book I care least about of everything I've ever written.

Go figure.

Yesterday I saw the 2 pm matinee of "Hello,Dolly."  It was supposed to be Bette Midler's last performance but a couple of months ago it was announced that there would be an additional performance at 8 pm to benefit the Actors Fund.  I enjoyed it a lot.  I still think Gavin Creel is the standout, vocal-wise.   I'm wondering how Bernadette Peters will be as Dolly.  She starts next weekend, I believe.

Hoping to have a fairly calm day here.  I have to go out for the prescription cat food, and to put gas in the car.  Otherwise, everything that has to be done is stuff around the house.

Also doing a little more followup editing to help my friend out on the holiday revue music.  What that really needs at this point is to be entered into Finale, which will resolve half the notation issues right off the bat because Finale won't even allow some of the crap that's on the page.  I'd enjoy doing some of that if I were farther along in the program, but I'm not there yet.  I can at least make notes on some things that need fixing.

I liked Merv Griffin because he always let his guests be the star of the show.  He acted interested....and was a genial host who asked good questions.

Most of the others were so intent on being "funny" or "edgy" or "off color" that they forgot we were watching for the guests!

I also liked the Merv Griffin story that MR BK wrote about here a few years ago.

Merv Griffin had the best interview ever with Carroll Baker a few years after she left Hollywood - he let her tell her side of everything that had gone on.  She was very funny and finally said...."It's too bad YOU weren't running the studio - you listen!"

Monday morning greetings!  So, Richard and I got up early, he cleaned off and emptied my car, and we went to the book sale storage facility to provide cargo space for the move into our 2018 venue.  We sat for about half an hour, watching it snow, waiting for the “muscle” to load up our vehicle.  Finally we were told we weren’t needed, so we proceeded downtown to the venue to verify and then did a couple of errands and came home.

We are now home to ride out the snowstorm and I have the cat in my lap.

TOD

Merv Griffin (no relation, unfortunately)

He could be smarmy. I still remember his wanting to see men’s suit coat linings, for some odd reason. “Ooh, Show us your lining,” he’d coo.

But perhaps because he didn’t get the top guests, he’d get better guests. And, as JRand said, he’d listen to them.

Letterman is wonderful. Carson was about Carson, and that’s okay.

Carson being about Carson was okay because the whole chemistry of the show and the interaction with the guests was always top notch.

Merv Griffin, absolutely.

Also Mike Douglas, who I actually remember less than I do Griffin, but I know we liked watching him regularly back in the day.

Letterman, absolutely.

And one of my favorites, who I learned to appreciate way late in the game:  Tom Snyder.

I am pleased to announce the publication of my latest one-woman stage play, IDA: The Last Lupino, which is available in both paperback and Kindle editions via Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/1983499994/ref=sr_1_1…

Unlike all my other one-person stage plays, Ida Lupino was a actress that I knew. I met her and her then-husband, Howard Duff, when I was 14-years old and kept in contact with them both, off-and-on, for the remainder of their lives.

I’m quite proud of this one, my 10th one-person play.

Performance rights are available. Please contact me for details.

Well, I got up and out of bed this morning in time to meet my niece to help her take two of her cats to the vet, but I couldn't remember if I was supposed to meet her at her house or at the vet's, so I went to her house, but my niece wasn't there because she had actually left five minutes earlier and took her cats to the vet's by herself, and it turns out that she didn't need my help even if I had gotten to the vet's in time, so I wasn't even needed and didn't need to get up too damned early on a day off! >:(

Many times I have taken four cats to the vet all by myself.  Yes, I preferred it if I could time the visits so the boys could go with me or Keith, but usually it was just me.

DR George tell your sister/niece to ask for assistance at the office and they should help her take the crates in and back out to her car.

My niece had no trouble getting them into the vet's or back home.  I think they asked me to help because they always just ask for help, even though they may not actually need it.  They just assume that they can't do it without help. ::)

I don't recall if I ever met her, but I do have a lot of respect for her work.

When I was nine or ten, her TV show MR ADAMS AND EVE ended and the set was struck, along with the dressing rooms. In those days dressing rooms were simple things, not the air-conditioned trailers of today. The dressing room for MR ADAMS AND EVE was a duplex--Howard Duff had one side and Ida Lupino had the other. As it was getting tossed, my dad nabbed it and brought it home for me to play in.

I liked Mike Douglas because he would have a guest host for five days in a row, so you really felt like you knew the person better after seeing them all that time - 90 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

But he wasn't very interested in some of his guests, and his writers were not very good with the sketches the guests were featured in.  I remember especially a terrible sketch with Butterfly McQueen that humiliated her and made her repeat her "birthin' babies" quote for GWTW.....

Of course some celebrities could use a reality check.....but it wasn't usually those people that MD would run over.....

Nice story DR JEANNE.....I remember Adams/Eve was a comedy, but I don't remember laughing very much....of course I wasn't even 10 years old.....and I didn't think Ida Lupino was very funny on the Lucy/Desi comedy hour she and Duff did.....

But she was great in several of her movies......and she was a director!

People have started posting all kinds of creepy videos from the Brady Bunch Family Hour, one of the weirdest variety shows ever. Enjoy. This is one of the least offensive:

I had a delightful lunch with former DR Ben and his DH Anthony.  We went to the usual place, Good Stuff Diner.  They have a great, varied menu.   Afterwards I went to their cozy apartment and saw their Christmas tree and decorations.  I had a great time.

Since we like diners I looked it up.  Their veggie burger looks good.

It’s still 67 degrees outside and the voices of doom are sounding. Schools are already closed for tomorrow. The office is closed. Restaurants are closing. The supermarkets are a mess.

Break time over.  I watched an interesting documentary called The Man Who Would Be Polka King - horribly made, but interesting.  Then I watched ten minutes of the Netflix movie version with Jack Black, which I shan't return to - it's awful.

Ten pages so far, so another break and then a hot shower, and then I'll see about doing two or three more.  I'm getting to what will become a long and key section of part two.  I'll have to see if I got to it too soon and if so I'll go back and add more stuff to the preceding section.

DR TCB

I did receive it and I am so used to seeing you here as TCB I didn't make to connection.

AND VIXMOM

The same thing I am also totally brain dead. I forgot your real name going through the contributors.

I thank you both!!!!

I’m sorry, Michael, I wasn’t looking for a thank you (Well, actually, I guess I was).  I just wanted to make sure that the money went to your project.  Anyway, you are very welcome.    I wish it could have been more.  Break a leg on Friday!

I brought home the MP3 of one of the sound effects to try and make it louder.  I did, but I couldn't make it as loud as I think it needs to be because it would get distorted.  So, it'll have to do.

I also brought home the CDs that Kate made for the preshow and intermission music.  Some of the tracks needed a little editing:  cutting out anywhere from 8 to 15 seconds of silence before the next track, making a few tracks a little quieter (none needed to be made louder), things like that.  That's what I'm working on now.  It's been a while since I've done that.  I forgot how long it could take.

Can you recreate it, and replace the one you have now?
