Title: THERE ARE A MILLION STORIES IN THE NAKED CITY

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were naked and written in the city, and now it is time for you to post until the naked cows come home.

I always enjoy reading about your writing process.  That is one of the main things that motivated me to start writing my book.

The Sahara is probably my favorite dessert.  Although the Gobi is nice, too.

Would you really want to see it again?  I'd like to see it, but haven't decided, yet.

I wouldn't mind going again.  Plus, being disabled seems to have one plus going for it.  The price of the tickets!

I have to actually call the box office to find out about the handicapped seats.  I imagine they would still have some available.

We were in Row K in the Orchestra.  Granted we were on the side, but, still, great seats.  The people around me were paying between $125 and $141.  I think I paid $42 a seat, including the service fees.

Think it over, and if you decide you are interested, let me know which performances you would like me to check.  It closes after next Sunday's matinee.

Trouble was, it was so difficult to stop at just one.  When it said "serves one" you had to wonder "one what?"  One very thin fashion model on a strict diet, maybe?

So we'd start having two as a starter, then grab one as a snack, which defeated the value of the low calorie count

I must get some work done, but I fear too much of my day will be dealing with yesterday's bathroom disaster.  I have a pile of damp towels and rugs to launder, the bathtub to clean out and scrub, and a big vacuuming effort.

I wish the damned elevator were in service.

TOD

Junket....(does this even exist anymore?)

Chocolate pudding. ( I would put mine in the freezer and eat it frozen, my family thought it was disgusting...then years later they came out with frozen pudding pops which became a huge hit...I'd be rich today if they didn't stifle my juvinile ingenuity)

Jello  had these 1-2-3 jellos... You made them like regular jello but after you poured them in the individual glasses   and put the.  in the fridge it separated into three distinct layers

Lemon meringue pie, which I started making so age 9 because my mother hated making meringue.

I haven't had it in years as neither Vixdad or the Vixter would eat it

Tomorrow morning, Annabelle goes to the vet, and I'm frankly very nervous about it.  I don't know why, but I'm fighting this huge fear that they will find something more serious than a polyp or respiratory infection.  I've had nervous attacks over procedures U've beeb through, but I swear nothing has had me as alarmed as my fears for Annabelle.

For the past week she's slept every night next to me, something she hasn't done in months.  She stopped during all the tsuris of medicating her and Thatch.  I think my bed became synonymous with a torture chamber, where she was forced to endure eye salves and syringes of foul tastes.

Then, about a month ago, I would come home to find her and Thatch taking their afternoon naps on my bed.  Thatch prefers to sleep in the cat tree, but around 3:00 this morning, he crawled into my bed and moved around, sleeping next to Annabelle, sleeping on my chest or next to me, but around 5:30 he moved back to the cat tree.

Maybe I'm late noticing it, but DR Elmore has a new quote.

Remember when Albert Schweitzer was somebody you grew up knowing about?  Like Helen Keller.  These were people kids were taught about, and had some grasp of their doings, from the get go.  I wonder who today's equivalents are.

In our family, Jello and pudding were staples, and ice cream was always of the Borden's half-gallon carton variety that was more milk than cream.  I'm sure I liked all of these things well enough, but I was a kid who was known for not having the usual sweet tooth and I often eschewed dessert.

(Gesundheit.)

Someone on All That Chat said the book revisions spell out that Raul Esparza's character is "bipolar" - was that what you heard,too?

Without giving details, the police think they were targeted. Two are in critical condition. The boy was shot in the leg and seems to be otherwise OK.

I loved the question in one of Bruce's Kritzerland books, "Who couldn't love a girl whose favorite food is hot fudge sundaes?" That was always MY favorite food. And the place to go for those was the Ice Creamery in San Francisco where the sundaes were huge.
My mom made a lemon bunt cake with chocolate chips that was very good.
And at Thanksgiving, one of our family friends always made a chocolate black bottom pie that was out of this world. I've tried for years to find the recipe and I found something that was close and I made it a couple times. It was very good, but never seemed exactly right.

I remember darling elmore had a problem with one of the Hofstetter books and how I wrote Furball - but all of Furball's cat behavior is strictly based on stuff cat owner friends told me, so while it may seem far-fetched in that one book, it in fact was based on fact - and reading about elmore's cat adventures, perhaps he's come to realize that cats do these things :)

Elmore, have you read In the Great Green Room? It’s a bio of Margaret Wise Brown,who wrote Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny.

It details a lot of her research on what kids like in kids books. Might give you a foundation for the Adventures of Annabelle and Thatch.

And even if it doesn’t, it was a fascinating read.

I have to get my mental energy up for this laundry day.  I'm sure it's the weight of the damp towels that concerns my walking down four flights with them under one arm.  Sooner begun, sooner finished, I guess.

I thought they are almost done with the elevator.  Is there anyway you can wait until then, or just do one load and leave the rest?

Never mind, obviously my question is too late.

Laura, grasshopper pie was a favorite of mine as a kid. I had it for by birthday for a couple of years instead of cake. I think I was 10 or 11.

I was never a fan of it.  Years ago I made a chocolate cheesecake that had a little creme de menthe that was very tasty.  I gave some to the neighbors and they liked it, even asked for the recipe.  When I got to the creme de menthe part I had an "OH NO" moment and had to apologize to the Mormon neighbor as I handed her the recipe.

Shoo-Fly Pie, anyone?

I used to buy small ones from an Amish bakery.  I could only eat a little at a time as they are very sweet.  I preferred the molasses bread or cake.

The ceiling in the laundry room has collapsed and I suspect it's part of yesterday's disaster.  I saw Val, who says he doesn't think this is part of my mess, and he told me that the bathroom ceiling in Apt. 2C collapsed last night.  I feel like Typhoid Mary.

Do not feel bad. We all make mistakes. But should we call you Mary Elmore from now on?

I think on the whole, especially for a non cat person, you have captured the cat behavior rather well.  Question though, when you named Furball were you thinking of a cute little ball of fur kitten?

What I think of when I see the name is that horrible feeling of being woken from a dead sleep to the horrid sound of the cats upchucking fur balls.  If I was super fast, and very lucky, I could get something under the cat in time so I did not have to clean the bed or carpet. ;D

DR JohnG --  Regarding Chess:  I didn't mind the book.  I've never seen Chess before so I didn't know about the changes that were made.  I agree that the score is great.

Someone on All That Chat said the book revisions spell out that Raul Esparza's character is "bipolar" - was that what you heard,too?

I'm late today....yes I am late.  Why am I late, you ask?  Who am I to withhold such information.

Like DR GEORGE last week - my credit card was hacked stolen and used.......My last charge was on February 2.  I went on a couple of days ago to renew my license plates and the website said it was unable to process the transaction....I tried it once more.

Today I went to spend $10 on EBAY and once again the transaction was not completed.  Then I noticed my card was restricted.

I went on the website and there were six charges beginning February 13.....to something called Wengo and something called Accion and something called Pharmicia.....

I called.  The card was cancelled and a new one will be sent....so I am cardless for a few days.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.......

Tonight's episode of Victoria was quite sad: Drummond died in a assassination attempt on Sir Robert Peel, the Baroness who raised Victoria was sent back to Germany, Sir Robert resigned as prime minister, Prince Albert's brother's syphilis broke up his engagement plans, and Diana Rigg had a wonderful scene with Lord Alfred Paget to inform him of Drummond's death and to tell him to remember his place in the mourners, somewhere after his parents and fiancée.

I have no idea if Drummond and Lord Alfred were in reality a gay couple or if its the screenwriter's conjecture, but it was nicely handled in the past episodes.

Next week is the season closer, England adopts the German Christmas tree, 1846.

Bruce this is sad if you mostly had chocolate pudding & Jell-O in your house.  Yes we had those and they were good, jello if it was blackcherry.

We had so many favorites.  Baskin Robbins ice cream we had to hide from my sister or she would eat it all.  Store bought cookie favorites were Mallomars & Ginger Snaps.

My mother was a wonderful baker.  My favorite cookies were her butter cookies.  I have never had a better cheesecake or apple pie, as in Danish apple, than hers.  She often made a delicious chocolate cake.

Then there were the treats from Robertson Bakery, the best chocolate chip cookies, fruit bars, and almost pastry crust cups filled with almond paste-heavenly.

My father always kept a tin of good chocolate and my mother had a tin of English toffees.

Of course there was usually See's Candy.

Sunday brunch at home included halavah.

Several of the most effective scenes were created on the set, rather than from the script. That included David Patrick Kelly chanting "Warriors, come out to play!"

My Criterion selections arrived in the mail. I hope to find some time to watch them.

Chatted with the Muse, decided on things, then did the fixes with Grant, which went pretty quickly, then we had some lunch.  Then I came home and went through the new version just to make sure that the fixes didn't introduce new issues, which, of course, they did - six small bad breaks at the ends of pages - he has those now and will fix and make sure they don't screw up anything else.  Normally with my other books this is never this kind of issue, but there are no chapters in this book so we always have to check forward from any change.  But hopefully the six are so minor that we'll get those done and that' will be that.  Then Grant is going to get Doug everything, because he doesn't have time to do his usual stuff and Doug will complete doing everything with the cover and back cover, which is fine.

I'm going to try to write some flap copy later, at least to get a way into it.

MR BK's story reminded me of the days writing papers on the typewriter and not having enough space at the bottom of a page for all the footnotes.....but if you stopped the body of the paper, it didn't reach far enough and there was TOO MUCH space....

Sometimes one had to write an extra paragraph or move something....

Since this is only February, I guess that isn’t terribly newsworthy.

For Western Washington, the low of 20 degrees is a record.  I know many parts of the country think that rather laughable.

I received my latest electric bill.  It is high for me, but I have to remember that I am now at home all of the time, instead of working.

Tonight, I went to see "Black Panther" in IMAX 3D and it was great!  It was a lot of over the top CGI action, but it's based on a comic book, and it's a Marvel movie, so that was to be expected, but it was all very well done. :D

Also, it had a good story that made sense.  There were some touching moments, and some funny moments, but both my friend Margo and I really liked it a lot!  The house wasn't as full as I would've expected for a 7:00 pm show, but everyone there really liked it, too. :)

Topic of the Day:

The only desserts that I can remember getting on a regular basis when growing up were probably pies (my dad loves apple pie) and pudding and cookies, not necessarily in that order.  Cakes were mainly for birthdays.  But they were probably all very good. :)

~~~Vibes of All Kinds for Annabelle!!~~~
T.O.D.
Love ice cream.
How could I forget??  We always had ice cream, too.  Back then, they didn't have the fancy flavors that are available now, but we enjoyed it all.  And orange creamsicles!  I loved those! ;D
I hadn't noticed it until you mentioned it, ChasSmith.  That's a good one, Larry!
Four people, including a 6-year-old boy, were shot outside a San Antonio version of Vixmom’s favorite, Texas Roadhouse. Scary.
The ceiling in the laundry room has collapsed and I suspect it's part of yesterday's disaster.  I saw Val, who says he doesn't think this is part of my mess, and he told me that the bathroom ceiling in Apt. 2C collapsed last night.  I feel like Typhoid Mary.
Oh, no!  Even if it is your fault (which is good that Val doesn't think so), at least you aren't financially responsible.  That's gotta count for something. :-\
