Today is a Friday (or so I’m told), and I’m doing something a little different. I’m spending a few hours working as a volunteer for the local library, as a sorter for their book sale. Said sale isn’t till the fall, but they need to bring some order to the donations they already have because they’re having a big donation day next week. (It used to be you could drop things off any day of the week, but that doesn’t work in the place they’re in now.)

I’d thought about doing this for years, but this actually came about when I met with a couple of the women in charge of the sale when I took them DR Elmore’s carload of contributions a couple of months ago. They were so impressed with that (they still thank you, DR Elmore), and we got to talking and they asked me to help out with records, CDs, and music. Today I’m going through records, first, to see what inevitably has to be thrown out.

Post by: Druxy on February 23, 2018, 05:23:04 AM: Last night we watched an excellent 1951 movie on TCM that I'd never seen before. It was BRIGHT VICTORY, directed by Mark Robson, and it earned Arthur Kennedy a Best Actor Oscar nomination.

Kennedy plays a soldier, blinded in the war. The film follows his recovery.

Although his name is not in the opening credits, if you look quick, you'll spot Rock Hudson in the film's opening scenes.

I always worked the sheet music section, which was under the charge of the late great, truly wonderful Betty Chapin. I loved her.

Those sales are a thing of the past, thanks to several disgruntled contributors, but they were a wonderful way to spend a Sunday and a good amount of money.

I especially want to hear how the band ended up sounding, and how well they’re pulling off piping them in from another room. (Lovely Theater, No Pit — sadly, an all too common syndrome.). The sound guy sounded like he really knew his sh stuff, but we’ll see.

I honestly don't know. I will tally up the vet bills and adoption costs and present them to my accountant and let him make the call. I might be able to deduct the adoption costs as contributions. We'll see.

1) a power outage between here and there has rendered the traffic lights inoperable and all intersections should be considered 4-way stops and

2) the Catholic high school that's just beyond Kroger is on "soft lockdown."

Maybe we'll go to a different Kroger that's west of our house...

Yes, GRRRRR. Once when my account information was hacked I was asked if I wanted my new card overnighted. YES! So this last time I asked for it and got it. That was with Discover, who give the best customer service of all the cards I've had.

I use my credit cards a lot and always have another card I can use in the meantime. Hacking is such a common occurrence these days!

Oh yes they were. We were very pleased our guide in Botswana stopped for the birds. On a couple of our day trips off of our cruise we were frustrated to go by them too quickly.

There used to be a Sizzler in Lacey, and at one point it became an all-you-can-eat place. Then at least 10 years ago, the place closed and I'd never heard of one since. :-\

The timing might actually be good for me. Books that have to be returned to the library need to be read first. I can now suspend holds for a week or more which is helpful.

I had a few scary moments, police running through the bank with guns and bomb threats requiring us to clear out of the building. Things like that. It was disconcerting enough to think of a robber with a shot gun but we didn't worry about combat rifles shooting everyone. There was the one crazy teller who refused to give the robber any money and started yelling at him. She got lucky he ran.
