Well, you've read the notes, the notes were collaborative, and now it is time for you to post until the collaborating cows come home.

First thing this morning, I fed the kitties and the birds.  Then I put the laundry into the washers.  I had panned to do it today, but the vacuum cleaner mess yesterday made it imperative to accomplish it soon.

I think Annabelle's angry with me for stepping out without her.  I've tried to explain that I didn't do our morning patrol, but she won't listen.

DR JohnG, I loved that Dain Curse production.  Isn't it from the 1970s?  My memory is that the young actress was a soap opera person trying to break out of soaps.  I went through two phases where I read all of Hammett's novels, in the mid-1960s and again in the 1980s when I worked at The Drama Book Shop.

I'm thinking I may see Love, Simon today.  Tomorrow is Annabelle's dental work.  I will deliver her tomorrow morning at 8:30, but I have no idea when I will need to pick her up.  Once I get her home, I will stay close until I know she's okay.

THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES:

I think I saw that awhile back.  But, after viewing the trailer on imdb, I have no real memory of the film.

Sadly, that's happening a lot to me lately.  I rediscover movies I've forgotten that I've just seen months before.

Not the good ones...few as they are.  Just the mediocre ones.

Of course, once I get into it, I recall I've seen it, though I don't remember how it ends.

Happened recently with Russell Crowe's THE NICE GUYS and Ben Affleck's LIVE BY NIGHT.

BK, where will the South Pacific be?

Did you know about this West Side Story at USC (which just closed!)?  I’d heard about it when somebody said the orchestration was the original, and all L.A. pros.  Scroll down for photos.

Well, not quite the original.  Three violins, one cello, and synth?  I played that book once.  Ugh.

Hell of a web page, though, with an incredible array of pictures and a link to the full Playbill.

Today I’m off to the Big Apple to see a couple of 3D films at MoMA.  These will be hosted by my 3D Archive pals (the group that restores these for digital presentation) on Home Theater Forum.  Been there, done it before, and it’s always a great time.

That was it. I read up on the starlet. She did a few soaps but died far too young from a rare form of cancer.

I may reread the novel while on vacation.

I forgot to mention, but the huge snowstorm that we were supposed to get on Friday never happened. We got less than 1 cm of snow. Now I just have my fingers crossed that we will not get anymore snow this season. I suspect we will still get traces of snow. But I hope it's always less than 1 cm and that it melts right away.

I emailed the director after studying the cast list....she has Alex Foster, a great kid and a fantastic singer (and son of the vocal director) playing Perkins in my cabinet.

I emailed her to let her know that Frances Perkins was the first woman cabinet member in history as Sec. of Labor under....well...ME....  Of course she also thought Jack Dempsey was a famous gangster.

I did go to Love, Simon, a gay teen romcom which reminded me a great deal of Clueless. It's not as good as Clueless, which is such a smart adaptation of Jane Austen, but it's very funny and touching.  Jennifer Garner and Josh Duhamel, as Simon's parents, have a couple of wonderful scenes with him, and the youg cast is quite good.  The high school in the film is working on a production of Cabaret, so we get a bit of that as well.

I just lost a massive post I was writing about today's Seniors Luncheon at the church.  It's a monthly affair.

I brought a covered dish -- corn and tomato casserole.

It was well-received.
Title: Re: THE ART OF COLLABORATION
Post by: Ron Pulliam on April 09, 2018, 02:56:07 PM
Darn!  Darn! Darn!   I hate losing posts while they are being created.

At the luncheon, meat was provided by our hostess (Miss Nelly).

She brought in fried chicken, which seems to grow on trees here.  Someone else thoughtfully prepared some meatballs in a Worcestershire-based sauce.  They were rather yummy.

Also on the table were macaroni and cheese (which also seems to grow on trees in these parts), two different (but tasting very much the same) green bean casseroles.

A bowl of corn was prepared by someone else and it was delightfully tasty.  It had a creaminess without being "creamed corn", if you can imagine it.  Try to.

There were some gelatinous things on the table, as well, and my Aunt Doris prepared a pineapple and cheese casserole which tasted very sweet but also appealed to the savory palate.  It was a meal item, rather than a dessert.

The monthly event started at noon and lasted until about 1:30 p.m.

(Last month's lasted until 2:30 p.m. with a ghastly guest speaker whose motto was 'KILL 'EM WITH REPETITIVENESS".

We had no guest speaker this time, happily, but there were Bible quizzes to be taken.  I did remarkably on them, if I do say so myself.  I was a good church-going little boy, and I attended a Baptist college which had mandatory classes in Religion for one semester, so....

Stuck like glue, I guess.

That's all I know.

I know all about the creamless cream corn DR RLP....it is indeed delicious.

Congrats on your Bible prowess - probably much more necessary on the East Coast and the Hinterlands than the West Coast.

It sounds yummy, and yes congrats on your Bible prowess.

I have just read through 12 resumes for writers. One would think prospective writers would want a resume without errors. Sorry. Apparently this is not important anymore.

I can imagine not just looking at all the errors in news articles.

Just watched a young man LOSE a round on Wheel of Fortune.  The clue, which he completed, was "Flamenco Dance Lessons."  They disallowed his reading by saying he said "Flamingo".  The next contestant "solved" it and won a trip to Spain.  It was reviewed and his pronunciation was disallowed.

He is from North Carolina.  Flamingo and Flamenco are, for all intents and purposes, pronounced the same way.

The young man won the game, but it was bittersweet.

My day did not begin as planned, first with not getting out to do errands and then only a short walk, all due to my bad headache. Interestingly mopping the floors helped my head.

The day improved along with the sun.  First we went for a nice 2 hour walk and then another one this evening.

From beginning the day barely moving I managed over 30,000 steps and 12.5 miles.  Not bad :)

Just put on the performances disc from the Monterey Pop set, all the stuff I guess that didn't make it into the movie. There are two songs from Simon and Garfunkel. I know how amazing Simon can be in concert. But the sound of a very young Garfunkel live is like hearing the voice of an angel. And it was just the two of them with Simon on guitar. The songs, Sound of Silence and Homeward Bound, didn't need anything else.

Just finished watching the real Secret in their Eyes - it's fantastic and the US version basically just makes hash out of what is a complex and wonderful film, filled with characters who actually behave like humans.  While a few of the scenes are pretty much identical, it's the changing of characters and the loss of any and all subtlety, as well as just cheapening the entire thing that does it in.
