Never watched Outer Limits.

Was a Twilight Zone fan.

Only watched the first revival and only a handful episodes were worthy of the original.

Around 4:00am I got up to use the bathroom and stepped into a pile of cat vomit on one of the litter mats.  I have no idea which one is responsible, but I suspect Thatch, since he eats anything and continuously.  When I empty the litter this morning, I'll scrub the mat.

So, I was awake most of the past three hours fretting over a possibly sick cat and wondering if there were another pile of vomit hidden somewhere ion the apartment.  It's going to be a long day.

TCB - Hoping they can build your leg back up.  test vibes also.

Re June 14th - I suspect  you're probably right that there won't be reserved seats at the Redmond theatre, since the drop down menu even on dates that are on sale doesn't offer  specific seats..  If that's right, it's probably like when it's general admission in New York, that unless something specific is arranged and "marked off" in advance, it's whoever gets to the show first gets the seats they want out of whatever is available.

When you saw Sharry in A Little Night Music, was it that way then, too, if you remember?

Even the Storm Theatre, where Last Starfighter had its NYC premiere, was general admission.  But if the theatre knew of any special requirements, the artistic director there got his house people on it.  (The Storm was/still is a union house, but I guess it still went theatre by theater.)

My family and I (especially "I") devoutly watched TWILIGHT ZONE from its inception. I do remember watching a few episodes of THE OUTER LIMITS when it first aired, and I probably liked them okay, but apparently not enough to stick with it all the way.

I, too, still have the two DVD sets, and I know damned well I only watched a few episodes on them, so I look forward to getting the Blu-ray and methodically taking it all in. I can say, however, that viewing these episodes as an adult, even on the mediocre DVDs, made all the difference in my appreciation of them.

And I am very relieved to hear BK likes the transfer. I say that because I have a couple of Kino transfers that are mind-bogglingly, head-scratchingly, "hot" -- meaning too bright, almost looking overexposed -- and it would be crushing to hear that these B&W treasures suffer from that.

Very good, only one spot, that hasn't happened for me in a long while.

An example, for anyone who may have it, is Kino's Blu-ray of ONE TWO THREE. There's exactly zero black in it, only a sea of grays and whites. Now for all I know, maybe that's the way the movie looked, but I very much doubt it. And it's not the only Kino release to exhibit that quality.

I wish I remembered the name of the book I was adamant you read.  You had other friends tell you the same thing.  Without the name I can't ask if you ever read it ;D

Did you recommend it to me here or through goodreads?  I don't usually look too much at the recommendations I get through goodreads as I get tons of recommendations from people I don't know personally.  To me 3.5 stars is just average. I only recommend books that are 4.5 or 5 stars. :)

He’s a sophomore in college with a dual major in performance and music education. He said several years ago that he was more interested in the education half, but I think he likes performing more now. At least now that he’s been given these opportunities.

Now I can't get The Manhattan Transfer "Twilight Zone" song out of my head.

(it has a favorite fake rhyme: Unpretentious / girl from Memphis )

And now my anal retentiveness must rear its ugly head:  the full song is called "Twilight Zone/Twilight Tone (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qe_Rt_oQhU)."  First, they do a  variation on the Seasons 4 & 5 intro to The Twilight Zone (https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/The_Twilight_Zone_(1959_TV_series)#Opening_narrations):

Spoken:
With a key, you unlock a door to imagination
Beyond it is another dimension
A dimension of sight
A dimension of sound
A dimension of mind

You're moving through a land of both shadow and substance
Of things and ideas
Guiding you through this wondrous journey
Is the hypnotic sound of the twilight tone

And then the song proper is actually called "Twilight Tone":

When I hear this melody
This strange illusion takes over me
Through a tunnel of the mind
Perhaps a present or future time, oh oh

Out of nowhere comes this sound
This melody that keeps spinning 'round and 'round
Pyramidal locomotion
From a mystic unknown zone

Hearin' the twilight
Hearin' the twilight, twilight tone

Unpretentious girl from Memphis
Saw the future through her third eye
People came with skepticism
Picking, testing her precision, no, wo, oh, oh

Suddenly they heard this sound
This melody that keeps spinning 'round and 'round
A signpost up ahead is calling
Through the mystic unknown zone

Hearin' the twilight
(Twilight swept away, feelin' the rhythm)
Hearin' the twilight
(Twilight swept away, ba da, loo da, ba da loo da)
Hearin' the twilight, twilight tone

Hearin' the twilight
(Twilight swept away, feelin' the rhythm)
Hearin' the twilight
(Twilight swept away, ba da, loo da, ba da loo da)
Hearin' the twilight, twilight tone

Spoken:
Submitted for your approval
One Mr. Miller, who's about to take a trip
Into oddness and obsolescence
Through a zone whose boundaries are that of imagination
Accompanying him on this journey is the mesmerizing
Sound of the twilight tone

Sung:
On a cold and rainy night
One Mister Miller had a rare flight
Glen was up there boppin' a rhythm
Then the engine stopped to listen with him play that beat, oh, oh

Suddenly he heard this sound
This melody that keeps spinning 'round and 'round
Now, he resides and plays trombone
In the mystic unknown zone

Hearin' the twilight
(Hearin' the twilight)
Hearin' the twilight
(Hearin' the twilight)....

I've had Annabelle six months and Thatch for five months, and as far as I know, this is the first time it's happened.  I remember my Siamese often hacked up a furr ball, but I don't recall much vomiting in the 16-18 years she was alive.

Oh My Goodness……..

This is by far the best book you have ever written.

I could not stop crying…LOVED IT ..LOVED IT.

Just amazing visually and viscerally..

Such heart ..  so poetic.

My nephew Herman was featured soloist with an orchestra for the first time last night. He performed Mozart’s Third Concerto for Horn with the University of Kentucky Philharmonia. Name listed on the poster. My sister Annaliese says he was nervous but performed well.

Those difficulties would not get her out of jury duty.  She is lucky you could show her a simple way.  How long will it take her?  I didn't even know you had a train there.

I just "fixed" something I've hated on my 4-year-old HP laptop (the windows one) from day one. It's generally a fine laptop, but it came with "Beats Audio" which is presumably for high quality listening -----    Well, wait a minute, I shouldn't claim to know WHAT it's for, because no matter what I did with it, it always sounded like total crap to me, whether listening on my desk monitors or on headphones.

What prompted this was, just today, a CD I was listening to seemed to exhibit lots of limiting, or compression, and I spent an hour of my life that I'll never get back, running around the house, checking this CD and a few others on a regular player, then back to the laptop to check them again there. I finally narrowed the problem down to just the laptop itself -- as opposed to either a crappily recorded CD, the audio interface, or the speakers or headphones. This "Beats Audio" software thing was doing it, and there was no setting to change that would give me what I wanted, which was a basically unadulterated level of sound at whatever volume setting I chose.

Cutting to the chase, I found other people complaining about the same type of thing, and followed instructions on deleting "Beats" entirely. Doing so forces Windows to install a generic sound driver...and Voila! The new driver does none of that crap. Do the CDs sound like they do when played on my Oppo Blu-ray player? No, of course not. But now I'm rid of so much bizarre filtering and such that I can hardly believe that such a significant improvement was to be had so easily.

Watching a motion picture on the computer - we're doing a soundtrack release that's wildly out of film order and it's never been very effective as a listening experience despite it being a wonderful score.  So, if the licensor will allow it, I'm going to reorder it in film order.

Tomorrow evening I'm subbing for the keyboard player in the band at a high school dress rehearsal for a musical about a boys' band.

The last time I played this show -- what was it, two years ago, I think? -- also for a high school, the production was just horrible. Not one kid understood either the show or his/her own character. So this will be most interesting.

Now I can't get The Manhattan Transfer "Twilight Zone" song out of my head.

(it has a favorite fake rhyme: Unpretentious / girl from Memphis )

And now my anal retentiveness must rear its ugly head:  the full song is called "Twilight Zone/Twilight Tone (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qe_Rt_oQhU)."  First, they do a  variation on the Seasons 4 & 5 intro to The Twilight Zone (https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/The_Twilight_Zone_(1959_TV_series)#Opening_narrations):

Spoken:
With a key, you unlock a door to imagination
Beyond it is another dimension
A dimension of sight
A dimension of sound
A dimension of mind

You're moving through a land of both shadow and substance
Of things and ideas
Guiding you through this wondrous journey
Is the hypnotic sound of the twilight tone

And then the song proper is actually called "Twilight Tone":

When I hear this melody
This strange illusion takes over me
Through a tunnel of the mind
Perhaps a present or future time, oh oh

Out of nowhere comes this sound
This melody that keeps spinning 'round and 'round
Pyramidal locomotion
From a mystic unknown zone

Hearin' the twilight
Hearin' the twilight, twilight tone

Unpretentious girl from Memphis
Saw the future through her third eye
People came with skepticism
Picking, testing her precision, no, wo, oh, oh

Suddenly they heard this sound
This melody that keeps spinning 'round and 'round
A signpost up ahead is calling
Through the mystic unknown zone

Hearin' the twilight
(Twilight swept away, feelin' the rhythm)
Hearin' the twilight
(Twilight swept away, ba da, loo da, ba da loo da)
Hearin' the twilight, twilight tone

Hearin' the twilight
(Twilight swept away, feelin' the rhythm)
Hearin' the twilight
(Twilight swept away, ba da, loo da, ba da loo da)
Hearin' the twilight, twilight tone

Spoken:
Submitted for your approval
One Mr. Miller, who's about to take a trip
Into oddness and obsolescence
Through a zone whose boundaries are that of imagination
Accompanying him on this journey is the mesmerizing
Sound of the twilight tone

Sung:
On a cold and rainy night
One Mister Miller had a rare flight
Glen was up there boppin' a rhythm
Then the engine stopped to listen with him play that beat, oh, oh

Suddenly he heard this sound
This melody that keeps spinning 'round and 'round
Now, he resides and plays trombone
In the mystic unknown zone

Hearin' the twilight
(Hearin' the twilight)
Hearin' the twilight
(Hearin' the twilight)....

I've never seen this before!! Thank you!!

Also, my favorite performance of The Planets with William Steinberg conducting has been newly remastered for optimal sound and the new CD comes with a Blu-ray audio CD - I really must get my rear channel speakers hooked up now.  What I didn't know is that Deutsche Grammophon in the 70s recorded a huge number of their albums in four-track quad sound - few were released because the LP format simply could not handle the information and frequencies well.  So, this new version of this is directly from those masters so it should sound amazing - the downmix for the stereo CD is also from the four-tracks so that quality should also be superior to any previous CD or LP release, since that downmix would have been further generations away pre-digital.

I must say, this soundtrack does play better in movie order.  So, if the label will allow, I may just do that and include directions for people who want to replicate the LP presentation.  If I can't, then I'll include instructions on how to order in film sequence.

Watching a motion picture on the computer - we're doing a soundtrack release that's wildly out of film order and it's never been very effective as a listening experience despite it being a wonderful score.  So, if the licensor will allow it, I'm going to reorder it in film order.

Good!  I hope they agree.  It seems that a lot of the Disney animated musical soundtracks have all the songs first, and then the instrumental tracks.  I really don't like that.  I've come across a few sites where people have listed these tracks in the correct film order and to me that makes it a more enjoyable listening experience.

But I have to go eat now.

Pizza. If you must know. And you must, you must.

Hope it was good.  Tonight at my sister's, we also had pizza for my niece's birthday.  It was all quite delish. :D

Well, I finally get to leave work.  It's my niece's birthday and everyone is at my sister's house (and has been since 4:00!), but I've been in a meeting since 1:00 pm. :P But no more!

Be back later!

Happy birthday to George’s niece.

Thanks, John!  It was a simple celebration just with family...as usual.

It appears Barbara Bush has died.

We were talking a bit about that at my sister's.

Now I can't get The Manhattan Transfer "Twilight Zone" song out of my head.

(it has a favorite fake rhyme: Unpretentious / girl from Memphis )

And now my anal retentiveness must rear its ugly head:  the full song is called "Twilight Zone/Twilight Tone (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qe_Rt_oQhU)."  First, they do a  variation on the Seasons 4 & 5 intro to The Twilight Zone (https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/The_Twilight_Zone_(1959_TV_series)#Opening_narrations):

Spoken:
With a key, you unlock a door to imagination
Beyond it is another dimension
A dimension of sight
A dimension of sound
A dimension of mind

You're moving through a land of both shadow and substance
Of things and ideas
Guiding you through this wondrous journey
Is the hypnotic sound of the twilight tone

And then the song proper is actually called "Twilight Tone":

When I hear this melody
This strange illusion takes over me
Through a tunnel of the mind
Perhaps a present or future time, oh oh

Out of nowhere comes this sound
This melody that keeps spinning 'round and 'round
Pyramidal locomotion
From a mystic unknown zone

Hearin' the twilight
Hearin' the twilight, twilight tone

Unpretentious girl from Memphis
Saw the future through her third eye
People came with skepticism
Picking, testing her precision, no, wo, oh, oh

Suddenly they heard this sound
This melody that keeps spinning 'round and 'round
A signpost up ahead is calling
Through the mystic unknown zone

Hearin' the twilight
(Twilight swept away, feelin' the rhythm)
Hearin' the twilight
(Twilight swept away, ba da, loo da, ba da loo da)
Hearin' the twilight, twilight tone

Hearin' the twilight
(Twilight swept away, feelin' the rhythm)
Hearin' the twilight
(Twilight swept away, ba da, loo da, ba da loo da)
Hearin' the twilight, twilight tone

Spoken:
Submitted for your approval
One Mr. Miller, who's about to take a trip
Into oddness and obsolescence
Through a zone whose boundaries are that of imagination
Accompanying him on this journey is the mesmerizing
Sound of the twilight tone

Sung:
On a cold and rainy night
One Mister Miller had a rare flight
Glen was up there boppin' a rhythm
Then the engine stopped to listen with him play that beat, oh, oh

Suddenly he heard this sound
This melody that keeps spinning 'round and 'round
Now, he resides and plays trombone
In the mystic unknown zone

Hearin' the twilight
(Hearin' the twilight)
Hearin' the twilight
(Hearin' the twilight)....

I've never seen this before!! Thank you!!

You're very welcome, Vixmom!

What's really cool is that a few years later for their music video for Blee Blop Blues (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgLiySJsAfc), they set it in an episode of I Love Lucy!  They very accurately recreated the set and became the characters...and it completely works!

Today was Dental Day again, and hopefully the last of the abscesses and root canals is behind me. This was my twelfth dental visit in the past six months. There's other dental work to be done--OF COURSE!--but, short of an emergency, I'm taking a break from it for a bit. My bank account needs to recover. As do I.
