Well, you've read the notes, the notes were smart and had cooties, and now it is time for you to post until the cootie cows come home.

They've always signed autographs after their shows and last night was no exception.  I bought a poster of their latest CD (I posted about it when I got it a little over a week ago (http://www.haineshisway.com/smf/index.php?topic=5371.msg1187602#msg1187602)).  I got all of their signatures on it.  It's downstairs, so I'll take a picture and post it later.

We watched a film last night on CineMax.  (We have the service free for the weekend.)

I think it was called ALTITUDE.  It was about a plane hi-jacking.

It starred Charlie Sheen's ex.  I think her name is Denise Richards.  Also Dolph Lundgren.

It was really pretty bad, but like PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, we kept watching because it became more stupid as it went on.

It was like an artistic train wreck.

The director was so bad that, half the time we didn't know who was where and what they were doing.

On the other hand, maybe BK could turn it into a terrific musical, like he did with PLAN 9.

What do you think, BK?

 ;)

I too slept very late.  I fed the cats at 7:00 and went back to bed until 9:00.  Annabelle and Thatch joined me for a bit, then ran back to the window to watch the birds.  Tomorrow I will be up around 6:30 to make it to my eye appointment.  Since The Rapture is supposed to occur tomorrow,  I hope it does't screw up my appointment.

Thank you, all, for the condolences.  There's now a contretemps going on between Judy's daughter Michelle, who wants to cremate the body before shipping the ashes to Ohio for burial, and her sister, who wants to bury a body.  I'm with Michelle on this one.

Thank you DR ELMORE, DR CHAS SMITH, and DR GEORGE.

Indeed DR ELMORE I had a wonderful time in spite of the technical snafu.....

I PM'd the jewelry store owner on the store's FB page - it's always fun to raise a little hell and cause trouble for people who deserve it.
Of course I will tell ALL about the result right here on HHW.

I am wrong about the timeline.  LITTLE OFTEN ANNIE, with Desiree Lane in the title role, was in 1984.  imdb notes that "after a career as one of the top stars in the adult-film industry, she became a born-again Christian and left the business in 1988."

I did not go to my last high school reunion - the one prior to that was it for me.  I find that there are too many people who never left high school - that was their glory days, and they revert to that person the minute they walk in the door.  While I had a certain amount of fun in high school, all having to do with theater, I would never in a million years consider it my glory days.  I couldn't wait till it was over, frankly.  And I didn't care for many of my male classmates, several of whom were raging bullies.

I know some have raved about The Color Purple, both in its original production and its revival - I have never had an iota of interest to see or hear it.  I'm sure I'm missing out, but something in me tells me it would be exactly what I think it is.

I think this is a common problem MR BK - and one of the reasons I had NOT been to a reunion since the Tenth One.

But this was our 50th and our committee really wanted a good showing for the alumni dinner - and I like MOST of the people on the committee - so I went....but yes for most of the reason you wrote about....it is over for me!

This is a picture of my sister in law Faith (left) and our friend Debbie - you can get a better look at our gym - refurbished of course - from our Jr. High Days.  This is looking from the stage end of the building.

I couldn't wait to get out of high school either.  Not a fun time, though I did play the lead in the Senior play (A SLIGHT CASE OF MURDER).

Could wait to graduate from college either and get on with my life.

Now if we ever had a confirmation class reunion I would be very interested

Less interested in that than high school. Can’t begin to count the ways.

We had four years of weekend retreats, week long confirmation camps and Sunday night activities ....my best friend ever I met on my first retreat 46 years ago

I had been using IGHome as my homepage since IGoogle went down a few years ago.

But it has become a mess.....too many ads....and video ads that start to play even though you click the button that is supposed to stop them.

Today I switched to ProtoPage....so far so good.....

Haines His Way (http://www.haineshisway.com/) has been my browser homepage since I joined.  I have no need for any other! :D

I haven't been to any of my high school reunions and have no expectation of attending any future ones

Ditto. ::) Most of my friends weren't in my class (1984).  My choir cohorts were my friends, so there's no point to get together with a LOT of people that I don't even know. :-\

Pluto retrograde started today.

This planetary period urges us to dig deep into our relationship with power and, first and foremost, sit with it. The longer we reflect, the more in tune we'll become with how our sense of empowerment affects the rest of our lives, from our self-confidence to our friendships.

Given enough time to reflect, we may find the courage to reckon with and even change our approach to control and power. Maybe you'll find a way to use your power to amplify the voices of those with less. Or, you might realize that seeking to control everything in your life is actually to your overall detriment.

For the next FIVE months.

Did anyone ever watch (or even hear of) the "reality show," High School Reunion (https://smile.amazon.com/Aloha-Cowboys/dp/B0032UR0YE/)?  All of the people had nicknames and Season 3 had Eric, "The Gay Guy."  During the six-episode season, he came out as a drag queen and actually has his own YouTube channel in his drag name, MizzHoneyBucket (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuvJjle8NIk4aFNYP8eDhCw).  He is now actually the business manager of my library!  He's been here a little over a year and a half and he really knows his stuff.  He's a great guy and very funny!

John G, when is Cecil's surgery?

He meets with the surgeon on Tuesday. Hopefully it will be set for soon. His doctor told him that if this surgeon couldn't schedule it quickly, then he had another surgeon to see. The bottom line is that his personal physician wants the operation ASAP.

I think this beautifully written review was done by our very own TCB - he can correct me if I'm wrong, but it just showed up at Amazon and I found it very moving.

"I must confess that I am a huge Bruce Kimmel fan. Is there anything this man can’t do? He is an actor, a producer, a director, a composer, a singer (Guy Haines), a playwright, and a music producer. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. In addition to all the above, Kimmel is the author of 17 previous books. And now he has written book number eighteen – GEE.

GEE may very well be the finest book Kimmel has written, to date. It is a story of not one, but two willful and headstrong women. Both “very peculiar girls.” One, GEE (yes, all capitals) is born in the early days of the 20th century; the other, Peyton, is starting life in the 21st century. The first woman we watch living her life, her 94 years of life, through the unfolding decades of America. From the two great wars and the Depression, through JFK and 9/11; GEE experiences all the happiness and all the heartbreak of life. Peyton, at seventeen is truly just beginning to fully experience the world.

Kimmel has carefully and lovingly crafted the stories of these two female characters. Part one tells the story of GEE, and Part two belongs to Peyton. Kimmel’s writing is superb. Once you start reading this book you will find it impossible to put down. How can these two women be so different, and yet, so much alike? You truly won’t want this book to end. I highly recommend this book to everyone. A great read."

It's like a stupid criminal story, if she was unethical enough to actually fix the raffle  she should have been smart enough to act surprised (if delighted) when the president won rather then proudly announcing her criminal activity

Listening to an opera - very late to the party with this composer and shame on me, but this is a stunning work with stunning music: Carlisle Flyod - Susannah.  I also have Of Mice and Men by him, and coming are Cold Sassy Tree and Willie Stark.  I'm wondering if he wrote just for the opera stage or if he did orchestral music.

When I was going to Western Washington University, Heidi Grant Murphy (https://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/29/arts/music/29murphys.html) (then just Heidi Lynn Grant), who had graduated from Western a couple of years earlier (her last year was my first year and we were in concert choir together that one year) came back and gave a recital.  Among her selections were two arias from Susannah:  "Ain't It a Pretty Night" and "The Trees on the Mountains Are Cold and Bare."  She was fantastic, even then, and the songs were beautiful.

Ain't It a Pretty Night is stunning.  This, for me, is right up there with Robert Ward's The Crucible, and much better than the Douglas Moore operas I've heard (and issued).  I've got a live recording from 1962 on its way - I'm not thrilled with the sound of the Virgin Records Susannah - it's dull and has no sparkle and it should.  I could probably take it and do what we did with The Crucible, but that won't be happening.

TCB, you could not have written it more beautifully.  I found it very touching and I'm more than happy you enjoyed the book, which is very special to me, as you've probably figured out.

Have you been working on yours?

I truly loved your book.  You should be very proud.

I have set my book aside until I figure out where I want to go with it.

I'm watching the season finale of "Star Trek Discovery" and Clint Howard is on it.  It's a minor role (essentially a cameo), but it's kinda cool that he's on this when he was also on the original series as a child. :)

Well, I've finished watching season 1 of "Star Trek Discovery," and then I watched the last "After Trek," which is an interview show after each episode.  It was fun and informative.  I wonder if any of these will be on the "Star Trek Discovery" DVDs.

TCB, if you mean the Gee on the spine of the actual book, it's a mistake but not the one, as we didn't provide them with that.  For those who are interested, the slight error is that the entire book is off-center and over to the right more than it should be.  No one has ever noticed, but once you see it you'll know instantly.  It was baffling as to how it could happen, but it's fixed in the second run - so those first forty copies are the first state of the book :)

Also, if you want my two centimes, you should pick up the book and start writing again - let the book lead you, don't try to lead the book.  That, for me, is the most magical part of writing - where the book starts to write you.  While I had the general bones of GEE there were many times when the book just took me places I would never have thought about going - it just happened spontaneously.  Even if you're not happy with what you're writing, once you start up you'll be in that mode and you always go back and futz and finesse.  As you may remember, it took me about eleven passes to get those final three pages exactly right and I was adjusting them right up until I sent the book in and until Muse Margaret and I felt the tone was perfect.  Two of my proofers knew it wasn't quite there when they got the book, and it wasn't, and when I sent them the redo they both knew it was exactly right.  So, don't be afraid of the unknown - embrace it.
